I love these hand building exercises that are based on a rhythmic pattern. If I try to practice para diddle diddles by themselves, it seems impossible to speed it up, but having a rhythmic pattern to practice to helps a lot. I feel like I can focus more on the rhythm than the rudiment.
I've been drumming on/off for about 20 years. No one taught me, used to play heavy metal music and would just copy songs by ear. Nevertheless, I never even heard of 'paradiddles' and am just now putting in the work to master it and can already see how much faster and intricate my drumming skills will become.
Cheers!
I have been doing your 2 paradiddle-diddle followed by a single paradiddle which changes to the opposite leading hand for years. I love it!! I use it all the time at gigs for a warm up. This is even spicier. Thanks Mike!
NIIIIICE! That's a perfect Paradidle pattern warm up. Thanks for the assignment and for all this years of pure dedication. 🤘🏻🥁🤘🏻
It's really great to be able to see videos of one of my favorite drummers in the world, and I have to say!!! one of the first ones that inspired me so much to continue learning the drums (still), on the other hand, it's super cool that I was able to talk to Mike (well he mentioned me briefly as a greeting in a live show) and that was fantastic for me, because for me mike is my super hero on the drums!!!!
Another Warm Up Winner..!! Thanks Mike!!
I guess Orange is now a sponsor?
Much appreciated Mike! As an OG (54) I still love practicing new and interesting exercises. This is brilliant and really enjoying building speed. Thanks again 👍
Thank you Mike. So grateful for your lessons and inspiration !
These are fun exercises! Another variation would be to do the 4x paradiddles in between each RH and LH phrase. So instead of doing RH, LH, RH, 4x paradiddles, LH, RH, LH, 4 paradiddles, it would be ||: RH phrase, 4 paradiddles, LH phrase, 4 paradiddles :|| This makes the left/right lead paradiddles swap more often.
When do we get news on the pad?
Thanks for this. I have been in rut the last several months. I needed something to get my butt back in gear
So important for Beginners, get this Down and Practice 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This was the first video where I instantly knew what you were doing! 😃 Means I’m improving. Matt Garstka has a version of this exercise as well. ❤ Love studying from you both!
I love this one. At slower tempos I have added diddles which is super fun.
Great lesson. I like thinking about the rhythm of the accents to drive my thinking at faster tempos. Once you get that down you start thinking musically and can move the accent around opening up freedom of phrasing.
Love it great lesson thankyou bro
Awesome Mike 🙏
Thank you for the very detailed and useful lessons! I practice them and am very pleased! We are waiting for new materials from you! Thank you!
Also when you play the paradiddle diddle with turnaround you create a baion Brazilian pulse with the accents!
Great exercise, will be absolutely adding this one to the tool box!
This is the first time I’ve see you do something that could be considered a marching exercise. I really like it, and just tried it out. The accents are a lot of fun, but the technique with the paradiddles and speed are where it’s at.
Thanks Mike! 🥁🥁
You make me want to
- practice drums
- get tattoos
I am already very familiar with the strike order thanks to your videos before. The speed is pretty fast but is hardly to go up like yours. Keep practicing with no idea of when to make progress.
Fun! Used to do very similar back in the marching days. Plus looks a lot harder then it is at speed to impress the girls/boys
Boom ,I did it with you . 🎉
It looks like your hands are below the fulcrum point? I didnt know its possible to still have such good rebound like that
6/6/4great lesson.ممنون
Mike, your voice is captured by the "little" microphone. But my question is about the pad. Do you put a mic on it or the Voice Mic capture the sound of the pad too?
Great question. All of the audio (my voice, the practice pad, and the click) are all being captured by the single lav mic on my shirt :)
@@mikeslessons fantastic! Thanks for the answer 🙏🤓
@@mikeslessonswhat lav mic do you recommend? I prefer smaller size lavs
I am going to try this. right. now.
What pad is?
Thanks Sir
In 80bpm, 16th notes (1E&A), what else are you accenting other than the 1? I'm struggling to find the other placements of the accents other than the 1 with this exercise.
NICE WORK OUT the meat gtinder my man as always peace out Cincy
So the two paradiddlediddless and the single paradiddle are regrouped ad two groups of six and a four
I spent half of my focus trying to figure out what kind of watch you're wearing! Ha! I'm a watch geek 🙂
In this video it’s a Tudor Heritage Chronograph ⌚️🙏⌚️
@@mikeslessons Oh, that's an excellent choice! It looked like an oyster bracelet so my mind was elsewhere.
Oh crap, you’re right. That’s a Sub no date. Good eye :)
@@mikeslessons Ha! The Sub no date is THE best watch. I have the 14060M myself. I don't see it ever leaving my collection. Anyway, I'm getting back in to the drums after years of not practicing. When I was young, I kind of half-assed my way about rudiments and mostly was concerned with getting my bass drum as fast as possible. If I wanted to approach playing again like I was on a drumline, do you have any advice?
Very cool Mike 😎
Beautiful
❤🎉
Great 👍
This sounds like painkiller !
Um I … I need to practice and I’m just going to keep telling myself I’ll get there
Damn this is tough to count and play to the click. phew gonna be awhile for me to even approach 60bpm....LOL
Sounds like the intro to Painkiller. 🤔
I found myself counting out the change in diddles.
Casually sitting in front of 7k in guitar cabinets. No bigs. New Orange kit coming soon.
💪👍🙏
painkiller !
The click and the diddles make some kind of a latin rhythm 😅
Firster. 😂
Been playing for 45 years, still cant make head nor tail of this😀and yeah im not very good.
