Hi Jennifer I just thought I'd let you know that I added a comment you replied to that I had cancer I am now cancer free I had an operation and the brilliant surgeons removed it all now I just need a check up in 6 months I love watching your videos they are so inspiring thanks so much I am now going to concentrate on becoming healthy and happy I hope you have a great day thanks again for making a small part of my days so enjoyable Liz xx😊
Best wishes on your recovery!! I’m a cancer survivor, too, and I can tell you my life has gotten so much better since then, I’ve learned and grown so much. I wish you the very best and I’m glad you’re here and part of a lovely community of women living our beautiful lives together! Cheers! 🥂 🌸🌼🌷
My husband and I are living a very nice retired life in tropical Florida. We don't actually NEED anything but the days can become routine. Being intentional about what we do helps make each day special. As Buddhists in the zen tradition, we understand this in theory, but it's the practice that's difficult. I love to set a beautiful table, but like many, we have fallen into the habit of eating in front of the tv. So, I've decided to set the table each night with our best china even though I have to wash it by hand. It's only two plates. I've bought two tablecloths and coordinating napkins even though they have to be ironed. And I've started to buy pretty glassware to switch things up a bit. I'm only buying two of whatever I purchase. We deserve something pretty even though it's just the two of us. It feels very luxurious. I will admit, as a younger woman, balancing work and motherhood, the napkins were paper and the tablecloths permanent press. We must allow ourselves the grace to meet ourselves where we actually are sometimes.
Bonjour, maybe because I'm French, I do everything mentioned in this video 🙂 except wanting to "feel decadent", because "decadent" has a rather negative connotation. Also I don't think of all these things as "luxurious", to me they are just a pleasing way of life: plaisir de vivre, and these little joys in life are not about spending a lot of money but simple choices. My grandmothers and mother (who survived world wars in France and personal tragedies - and were definitely not rich) lived like this, with these little habits that helped them feel nice and hopeful for the future, with dignity and the strength to be there for everyone else. By the way, unlike "Madame Chic", they would never have looked down on a young lady who wore old/unflattering clothes at home or anywhere and made her feel bad...
Looking at my flower garden is truly my way to slow down. My sweet daughter is a botanist. She planted a beautiful garden and showed me how to take care of it. It's a little piece of heaven
While watching the _Sit down to dine_ segment of this video, I had a hilarious *flashback* to an office where I worked in 2007... A cleaning lady was walking down the hall, chomping on a chicken wing (sans bucket or plate). It struck me as such an odd thing back then (and I thought I had seen everything since by then I had lived in and worked in NYC for 20 years). It still ranks as one of the most strange unexpected things I have seen. 😆
The blessing is that we can do this at any budget. Having good posture is free. Keeping our homes clean doesn't cost a lot as cleaning products are at every budget level. Like you mentioned we can find wardrobe essentials at thrift stores, undergarments can be purchased at bargain stores. Elegance is affordable for the material aspects most importantly the attitude part of elegance is free❤
@@AddieV1984you are right. Keeping a tidy clean home, making it look and feel loved. Behaving elegantly costs next to nothing. I don’t have anything expensive and buy a lot in charity shops. I bought a large mirror for next to nothing, some lovely candlesticks, china bowls for a couple of dollars, I think it’s all in the small details.
Hi Jennifer, I have loved your books since first reading "Lessons from Madame Chic" on the recommendation of a friend about a decade ago. Over the last few years, whenever I needed to feel re-inspired to live well at home, I would re-listen; I have done so many, many times. I only started watching UA-cam this year since starting my own channel about gardening beautifully at home; the algorithm recommended you, and I am so pleased to now follow along here as well; thank you for sharing your wisdom in such an uplifting way. XO
I've been working on my at-home wardrobe. For the past year, I've been asking myself every day, "Would I open the door wearing this?" I found some nice lounge wear that feels luxurious and looks nice, so I don't embarrass myself :)
I work from home & I cannot seem to find eating at the table something I do for any meal. I want to, it just seems that something needs me at work during breakfast, there's always a chore that needs to be done during lunch, and dinner time seems to be TV time as my husband and I are both back in school and after dinner, we dive into our individual course work until bedtime. The tips about meals really hit me. I always love setting the table and we do have a beautiful table and our lovely Spode Blue Italian dishes we use every day. Thanks for your lovely videos!
Me too 😅 it's ok no one sees me. One day I aspire to be better. So now I only buy things that I know will work towards that goal of being comfortable and presentable
What resonates with me the most is making our homes our sactuaries, and for dressing and presenting meals in a beatiful way that is part of the celebration and gratitude for the homes that we have. This is a way to express love to those we live with, and to elevate their lives as well.
I love the idea of gliding around the house or just moving gracefully throughout your day. It reminds me to be mindful. and of course makes me feel like Grace Kelly. Thank you for such a nice video.
Looking presentable always has been a real game-changer for me. I so enjoy it to put on the outfit I selected the evening before, and even though my wardrobe is simple, I often get compliments for looking elegant. I am currently working on eating less rushed. Thank you for the reminder.
Presentable Pajamas! I've been in a situation where I had to be taken by ambulance to hospital for emergency surgery in the middle of the night. Since I follow this practice thanks to Jennifer Scott for the past few years I was modestly and well covered, comfortable and as presentable as I could be in that situation. (not that you think about all of that in those moments) But I look back and feel like no they didn't bring me in in little /ill fitting or poorly cared for clothes or hygiene. even the operating physician took care when putting in the IV by rolling up my sleeve saying I don't want to ruin your beautiful silk with this. My husband also had such ease packing a bag for me in a rush the next morning for my stay because I didn't have an abundance of things that didn't fit etc in my closet / drawers he brought me exactly what I would have packed for myself without even telling him and he complimented me on how neat and easy he found my space to get these items.
I just realised, for myself at least, that many tips actually have to do with self-worth. I'm starting to realise how little I value myself and rarely allowing myself the time I need to do these things. It's like everyone else's needs and expectations are more important than me.
I'm watching this in my luxurious pajamas that you inspired me to get❤❤. I've been dressing up since I started watching your videos 4-5 years ago. Thanks for the encouragement! 🤗
Excellent. Yes. It makes me want to cry ,I’ve been wearing rags for no reason, except they are soft and comfortable. Ahhh the memories. I will buy new pajamas. 😊❤
I love the tips! Would you ever consider doing a little backyard garden tour? You have such a lovely oasis I’m so curious to see more of. Also, I love the casual white sweatsuit in the last few evening shots. Looks comfortable but still elevated. 😊
Oh! Also, I forgot to tell you I made the Victoria strawberry tart this weekend for my daughter's college graduation family gathering and it was WONDERFUL!!! I love that it's in your honor! So special! That's it, I'm done! haha!! Kellie
I have a limited budget but I wanted to upgrade my sleepwear as you have often suggested from old tshirts and leggings. I purchased the Ekouaer silk pajamas shorts set from Amazon. For under $20 a set, these have held up to weekly washings for over 2 years. I feel much more elegant and can survive the heat of summer and the occasional hot flash(IFYKY). I don't have a link, but a quick search will yield results. I feel like I am ending and beginning my day in a beautiful way.
We are blessed to have several artist friends, so not only are we displaying beautiful artwork but it is personally meaningful to us. We enjoy living in a tidy home, the floors may not be spotless or perhaps it needs to be dusted, but it is calming to live in clutter free spaces. Thank you for being an encourager.
Hi Jennifer, I wonder if you might do a video on living well at home with babies and toddlers. I tend to dress in clothes easy to wash because my toddler will grab my clothes with messy hands, or my baby will spit up on me, etc. I also barely have time to do laundry and dishes, which makes it hard to have a small wardrobe and use real plates (paper plates are a regular here). Also no tablecloths because I would have to wash it after every meal and can barely get the laundry done as it is. Do you have any tips for moms like me with small children?
Sitting while you eat is so smart! I remember this was something that was part of the Weight Watchers plan. Never eat anything unless you are sitting down. I believe it has something to do with mindful eating.
Your ideas are so easy to apply, but often we overlook the value of these exact habits. I have recently subscribed to your channel and enjoy adding quality to our lifestyle. Yes, I'm doing this for us - my husband, a farmer, is so appreciative when I set a small tray for our tea, or let us have lunch in a different spot in our garden. We both are working hard, but this is how we can enjoy what we have and what we are building. You are a great inspiration to me ❤
Thank you Jennifer…..I needed this video today! The summer heat has already kicked in here in Texas, and it’s the time where I have to close all the curtains early in the day to keep the house cool. It can sometimes feel a little dark and depressing! But implementing these daily habits will help very much to keep an uplifting and lovely atmosphere at home. (I can’t wait to make your Strawberry Tart from Victoria!). Thank you for all the beauty and inspiration that you bring to homemaking….it is truly a blessing!💕👒💐🏡
Hi Jennifer! When I first met my husband we were out together and he bought a sandwich. Fine, nothing wrong with that but we he started eating it as we were walking along I found myself saying “oh you eat in the street?” I was just as surprised as the look on his face!! I didn’t know where that came from! I think from my grandma, many years ago and I didn’t realise it was something I never would do 🤣 Great video…. love Helen 🇬🇧
Good Morning, Jennifer! Thank you for this really wonderful video. I was wondering when the Spring 10-item wardrobe is coming? I have been watching for many years now and the 10 item wardrobe reviews are the videos that I look forward to the most. I remember a few weeks back you mentioned it was coming our way once your final items arrived and I was so excited. Thank you for all you do…I love your channel so much. Please consider keeping the 10 item presentations as an integral part of the channel since it it the foundation of your books ( which I also enjoy so much!) and channel. 🌷
@@TheDailyConnoisseur I am so excited! Not sure it’s normal how much I look forward to the 10-item videos ( oh and the classic talk through!💕) it just brings me so much Joy! 😂 Loving my subscription to Victoria and reading your writings for them!
Lovely tips!! Thank you for sharing! I love the inspiration and encouragement to make the most of our lives and homes. I agree with all of them. Note on the elegant movement: I tend to be klutzy, I used to crash into doorways and countertops, but a number of years ago I purposed to develop the habit of gliding smoothly and gracefully through the house on a daily basis. I told a friend about this and she was so surprised, she thought I was naturally graceful. 😅 Anyone can learn, and home is the best place to practice Grace Kelly gliding! Also one more, I love wearing a little spritz of fragrance around the house, even just a few drops of essential oils like lemon and mint, it is refreshing and uplifting. I’m not sure who said it, but I love the quote, “Perfume is invisible jewelry”.
💗 I started watching your videos after reading your 3 books on lessons of madam chic ! You’re a breath of fresh air! I’m in my 40s and friends with ladies my mother’s age because they take pride in their looks and the way they carry themselves. It’s been a fun journey.
I'm an older woman (62yo) and I mentor some young women that I share these tips. I remember being young and having my grandmother, mother, aunts and older women share them with me❤
Jennifer, I always love your videos! Presentable pajamas are some of my favorites - I have pajama envy! 😂 Many of mine are just from Walmart, but they are still both presentable and pretty.
You caught me! I am eating dinner in my recliner! I have just spent two days at the hospital with my dad and I am just exhausted. Tomorrow I am going to get back to nice meals at the dinner table. 😊 I love the idea of slowing down and gliding!
💕 Wearing your nicest clothes everyday even you’re at home makes me feel like a million bucks and makes me feel good all day! Thank you for reminding us that we can feel luxurious even in our own home! Lots of Love, ~Niña~
You are such an elegant person, Jennifer. 💛 Thank you for all the meaning you present to us, and for cultivating, and mainting such a beautiful way of living.
When I listen to or watch your videos, it's as though. I take a deep breath and breathe out slowly. I always enjoy the calmness and luxury of your videos.
This is so timely. People keep referring to my role at home as a “luxury.” Although I understand the point they’re trying to make, we need to find a new word. Homemaking is self-denial most of the time. I like to say that I get to “do whatever I want,” but I just have to choose between what “Long Term Me” wants and what “Short Term Me” wants. Long term has to win most of the time. Like your videos point out, there are some glorious moments and the result is worth the work…but all this talk about it being a “luxury” makes it sound like it’s not really a sacrifice. It’s a sacrifice, so budget things in a way that help you to make the sacrifices long term without feeling too overwhelmed. 🤷🏻♀️
I get that also. Many are taught this line of thinking, not working? No career? No value. Must be luxury. Politely I respond with, "I'm truly sorry you think that." Remember, a house is just a house until it's made into a home, by the wife, which does take continuous self sacrifice. Corny but true. (Speaking generally here, of course there are exceptions) Keep on doing the next right thing, you got this!
Thank you for sharing in so many ways. Enjoying luxury at home is an attitude towards life. Wearing a comfortable robe and slippers while spending time in the garden is truly a wonderful choice.
So funny. I was just thinking about this. With so many traveling this time of year I am happiest at home. You are such a blessing. Thank you as always!
Thank you. I really needed this reminder. I had a big smile on my face when you were doing the poses in the hallway. The tips about nature, and listening to the classical music resonated the most for me.
(Just a reminder to consider -bed bugs and bed bug eggs are not unheard of in thrift stores and can be taken home in clothing despite precautions that the thrift store has taken, so it may be wise to wash thrift store purchases in very hot water as soon as they are taken into our homes to kill any bugs and their eggs…just a thought). Thank you again Jennifer for another great video! Wishing everyone a lovely day🌷
Hello Jennifer, Your tip on a dressing gown is a great reminder to find one that is very lightweight (pure cotton) and opaque because our home is full of young adults and their friends (surprise!) Of course, I’m dressed in my very old clothing ready to tackle the compost pile today. 😂
9 & 10 are the biggest for me. Having a clean, tidy home and a well manicured lawn & garden sets the tone at the beginning of the day to "rise to the occasion". Bonus, it costs little to nothing.
Please could you offer any advice about coming to terms with one's regional accent? Especially when others are unkind about how it sounds. How do I stop it from affecting my confidence and feelings of elegance?
I don't see this as a problem tbh. As long as your pronunciation is correct. I do see some people with heavy accents but it's only when the pronunciation is incorrect that it's a bit annoying.
I am drinking a sparkling element drink as I watch this video! I guess I'm an insider now, because they sent me a case and I've been really enjoying it
Thank you Jennifer. Gliding, enjoying yr garden and wearing elegant clothes at home are my favourites. All so very true. Love yr videos so much. Have all your books. Love from Australia 🇦🇺 xxxxx
Thank you for this video. I love feeling well put together and ready for the day. I also very much enjoy the birds outside my house. I'm with my grandchildren this week babysitting. Let me see how luxurious I can feel in the midst of all these toys. Haha!!
I think the one that rresonates the most with me is the presentable pyjamas, although I'm more of a nightie person. I recently went through my nightie drawer and realised I didn't have enough Winter ones ( I live in Australia ) . I bought just one new one to start with, and it's so comfortable I slept really well in my new nightie.
I love these tips and have incorporated all of them into my home. The one in working on is plating my food to look anesthetically pleasing.. it's fun though it doesn't always turn out like i planned🤔😁 I've restarted ballet after a 40 years so I'm always doing ballet walks around the house😎😎thank you for encouraging us to live well at home. xoxo Stacie 🏡💕🌼🌷
Me too! I usually sleep int the nude because it's so hot in tropical Florida, but I have a cheerful caftan that I put on in the morning before I have my coffee on the lanai. The caftan does feel very chic and I feel like I'm on vacation at home.
I am STILL struggling with how I dress at home. Hopefully someone can advise. I live on a farm so in the morning I need grubbies to feed, then I do some outside work. I come inside and change I to nice clothes but then I have to put grubbies on to feed lunch and/or dinner. Feel like I spend a lot of time changing clothes. On the upside, I have started wearing le no-makeup everyday and doing better with my hair!
Shaye at the YT channel The Elliott Homestead appears well dressed...the clothes are farm appropriate and still beautiful. Watching some of her videos might give you some ideas...i haven't seen any content on dressing well...but just looking at her clothes in her many videos may inspire you.
That B-roll character is so hilarious! She's the perfect counterpoint to your true self. What's sad though is that a lot of people dress/behave that way. It's so easy to fall into (not pointing fingers; I am tempted every day to just give up, especially at 56 when it takes way more ongoing care and attention to look nice every day than it did in my 30s and 40s)! And, in general, it takes a lot of effort and thought to "live luxuriously" at home, but it's so worth it. Thanks for the inspiring video.
I tend to move about the house like a storm trooper, although I occasionally break into a dance😅 Gliding is something I am going to try! It sounds more calming - and my dog will likely prefer it too.❤
Good morning! This was SO inspiring, fresh, fun and pleasant!! I'm in a heavy season of life at the moment, and this lifted me and gave me something lovely to look at and think about! Thank you!! I'm so grateful I have you! Have a wonderful, luxurious week and see you Thursday! With love, Kellie
I was taught very young that money does not equal class but class never hurries unless someone is dying. Pay attention to this and you will see it. Classy people never run, hurry, talk fast, explain themselves in conversation. Trying to teach teenage boys not to run except in sporting events is laughable sometimes but we keep trying.
Hustle culture will have you believing that you have to constantly suffer to get what you want. Alignment corrects that thinking. Will there always be hardship on the path? Absolutely. But only to the degree that you allow it to mold you into the person you need to be.
Sleepwear, oh yes. Having just had a stay in hospital. (Uk) i can vouch that presentable sleepwear is worth thinking about. Having an individual room is rare, patients have to cross paths often. The sights i saw.........! Ill leave it to your own imagination 😂

(I can’t wait to make your Strawberry Tart from Victoria!). Thank you for all the beauty and inspiration that you bring to homemaking….it is truly a blessing!💕👒💐🏡
It gets hot like that here too. There's something cozy about drawing the curtains on a hot day...
It’s coming soon! Both the fashion show and talk-through. Thank you ♥️
@@TheDailyConnoisseur I am so excited!
Yes! I love perfume at home. I actually prefer it and don't spray when leaving the home
💗 I started watching your videos after reading your 3 books on lessons of madam chic ! You’re a breath of fresh air! I’m in my 40s and friends with ladies my mother’s age because they take pride in their looks and the way they carry themselves. It’s been a fun journey.
Wonderful! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing; older women do have wisdom we can glean from and enjoy their no nonsense lifestyle.
I'm an older woman (62yo) and I mentor some young women that I share these tips. I remember being young and having my grandmother, mother, aunts and older women share them with me❤
It’s the little things we need to appreciate. I love sitting in our conservatory and looking at our garden 🙂
Jennifer, I always love your videos! Presentable pajamas are some of my favorites - I have pajama envy! 😂
Many of mine are just from Walmart, but they are still both presentable and pretty.
Joyspun at Walmart makes delightful sleepwear in many different styles and patterns.
Joyspun is my favorite!
I find it very rare to find 100% cotton pj's in the joyspun line. And in general tbh
Love the blouse you are wearing! ❤
Lots of Love,
~Niña~
You are such an elegant person, Jennifer. 💛 Thank you for all the meaning you present to us, and for cultivating, and mainting such a beautiful way of living.
When I listen to or watch your videos, it's as though. I take a deep breath and breathe out slowly. I always enjoy the calmness and luxury of your videos.
Seating down and enjoying my food without distractions is essential for me ❤ I love my garden too 🌸✨
This is so timely.
Let them think it's a luxury. Nothing wrong with it. In its own way, it is.
I thought I was a little strange gliding around the house! Glad to hear that I should be doing it!
Jennifer, thank you for your lovely video! I definitely feel like a queen in a clutter-free room. Enjoying nature is certainly a huge blessing.
Yes! The return of T-shirt and messy bun Jennifer! 😂 Love your sense of humor
PLEASE link to caftans!!!! I have been searching and searching for these and cute house dresses with pockets ❤
Thank you. I really needed this reminder.
I had a big smile on my face when you were doing the poses in the hallway.
The tips about nature, and listening to the classical music resonated the most for me.
Jennifer in grunge distress...gold.
Inspired thank you. Watching your videos is always a pause and reset for who I intend to be ❤
Jennifer this is a beautiful video. I loved all your tips and it just seems like the right thing to do.
Another reason to add to your sitting down to eat tip: I've read that sitting down to eat greatly helps digestion. :)
Wishing everyone a lovely day🌷
This video is one of my Favorites👌 It gives me the goosebumps..✨️
Hello Jennifer, Your tip on a dressing gown is a great reminder to find one that is very lightweight (pure cotton) and opaque because our home is full of young adults and their friends (surprise!)
Of course, I’m dressed in my very old clothing ready to tackle the compost pile today. 😂
9 & 10 are the biggest for me. Having a clean, tidy home and a well manicured lawn & garden sets the tone at the beginning of the day to "rise to the occasion". Bonus, it costs little to nothing.
Love your home. Love the blue and white I had to subscribe. Great video.
Great tips. I really enjoyed this video. Often it seems there is never enough time to get things completed. I am much slower as I am aging too.😊
Please could you offer any advice about coming to terms with one's regional accent? Especially when others are unkind about how it sounds. How do I stop it from affecting my confidence and feelings of elegance?
Great question. I can so relate. Even the most polite people stifle a snicker sometimes and I know it’s due to my southern accent!
The one in working on is plating my food to look anesthetically pleasing.. it's fun though it doesn't always turn out like i planned🤔😁
I've restarted ballet after a 40 years so I'm always doing ballet walks around the house😎😎thank you for encouraging us to live well at home. xoxo Stacie 🏡💕🌼🌷
Me too! Back to ballet after a 25 year hiatus. Those ballet walks though…! 😂
I love wearing a beautiful cantan, it makes me feel 70s chic! You gave helpful tips and ideas. Thanks Jennifer 😊
Me too! I usually sleep int the nude because it's so hot in tropical Florida, but I have a cheerful caftan that I put on in the morning before I have my coffee on the lanai. The caftan does feel very chic and I feel like I'm on vacation at home.
@@kathleenkalt3852I find I'm more sweaty with no clothes. Cotton clothes imo absorb sweat and prevents chafing in my case
Lovely garden. How are allergies in CA? They are terrible in NJ.
Seriously I'm so uncomfortable today 😢
I think that's fine tbh?
OMGosh 😂 when. I wander into my garden ( where I have a beautiful bistro set) I totally feel like a queen too!!
You always give great advice, so far, this video proves it again.
Do you do all gardening yourself? What clothing you wear for gardening ?
Always inspiring. TY
Kohl's has very nice and inexpensive sleepwear/robes/dressing gown.
Your garden is so beautiful!
Love your clips of what not to do! Hehe 😉
Beautiful 😍❤️ Louise and emily
I love all these tips. But to move elegantly really resonates with me. I tend to scurry! I would like to be more graceful and refined.
Jennifer can you tell me about the beautiful glass you were using with elmeint water
My Mom taught us to wear dressing gowns at home, it was mandatory to have it on for breakfast if we had not showered first.
I tend to move about the house like a storm trooper, although I occasionally break into a dance😅 Gliding is something I am going to try! It sounds more calming - and my dog will likely prefer it too.❤
Hey I like the Wonder Land shirt haha
Good morning! This was SO inspiring, fresh, fun and pleasant!! I'm in a heavy season of life at the moment, and this lifted me and gave me something lovely to look at and think about! Thank you!! I'm so grateful I have you! Have a wonderful, luxurious week and see you Thursday! With love, Kellie
I'm sorry you're in a heavy season, Kellie. We love you and are here for you!
Major disconnect here? Lol I’m always cooking and don’t want to get my beautiful clothes stinky!
Same, I find it's difficult to get the food smells not just out of clothes but from the home too.
Nice shirt!!
Love the video!
Beautiful dress on, check. Hair done, check. Maku-up on, check. Muck boots on...time to work. 😊
Original art from Alice? You mean by John Tenniel????? wowee
You are beautiful gem Jennifer! 🌺❤️
Messy you with the messy bun is giving me Joanna Gaines.
Sleepwear, oh yes. Having just had a stay in hospital. (Uk) i can vouch that presentable sleepwear is worth thinking about. Having an individual room is rare, patients have to cross paths often. The sights i saw.........! Ill leave it to your own imagination 😂
Ditto me too. I’m in the UK.
Hospital gown?
🥰
❤
