Lyrics:
Out of the winter
Came a war horse of steel
I've never killed a woman before
But I know how it feels
I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law
I met up with a 'slinger last night
To keep me alive
He spends all his money
On gambling and guns to survive
I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law
So give me sanctuary from the law
And I'll be alright
Just give me sanctuary from the law
And love me tonight, tonight
I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law
I can laugh at the wind
I can howl at the rain
Down in the canyon
Or out in the plain
I know you'd have gone insane
If you saw what I saw
So now I've got to look for
Sanctuary from the law
So give me sanctuary from the law
And I'll be alright
Just give me sanctuary from the law
And love me tonight, tonight
Man early Iron Maiden there is not anything like it!
as a big fan of Maiden and Defender of Metal culture and way to live i'm honoured to put the 1000th like on this old pearl, The Paul Era will remains the best along with the 80s Era with Bruce forever! ❤
To me this is Iron Maiden. Granted I didn't get into them until '92 but it was the DiAnno stuff I heard first and it's what hooked me. It seems like when Dickson joined (not that they don't have great stuff with him) they toned down the rawness and bite to suit his more 'techincal' vocals. They never recaptured this type of energy. I mean look at the Sanctuary on Live After Death just a few years later, it's played slow, here it's like a punch to the face.
I know Harris said he hated punk but this is a punk song. It sounds like Radio Birdman or whatever.
It definitely sounds more like punk than metal to me also. Great song
I think what happened or adds is that most people listen to original recordings,
They definitely have a more raw tone. During killers or after is when they started to finally clean up the recordings or at least give them polish.
I definitely love the new stuff, but I do prefer Dianno as a vocalist but Dickinson isn’t far behind.
same with me. It was this "dirty", punk like raw sound (not only the guitars and the base but also the drums) that fascinated me. Even though the Dickinson albums in the 80s were great and in musical terms superior, the sound was not the same. It became a bit "sterile".
I was there ;)
Was 10 stone when I went in, 8 stone when I left.... awesome night !
Paul D'ianno Was a fucking great singer.
I love all eras from Iron Maiden. Because there is nothing greater on this earth! Up the Irons forever!
Masse Taktstock Hellz Yeah!
All Iron Maidens/Black Sabbaths/Black Lives matter........
Black labs matter.
fecking awesome, transport me back to 1980!!
Street Metal at its best! This song really gets the rebel out of you.
They are really rockin' here!
1980 Hammersmith Odeon, 16 years old, watched them support Priest. Fantastic night, always remember it. Blew Priest off the stage in my opinion, and Di'Anno's voice suited songs like Santuary and Charlotte the Harlot perfectly. Great times.
Oh Christ, this is so freakin' good it's making my eyes water!
I love this song!!
LOVE this concert, have it on the early days dvd, especially this song and charlotte the harlot! :) Up the old school irons! :)
Di'anno ruled the Stage and got the Voice and Maiden
Always !!!
So raw, so much power. I love it.
paul is the man !
that break down at the end kinda reminds me of Keep yourself alive by Queen
That's because it is yo!!
so raw so good
Paul Di'Anno, kicking ass
Incredible Dennis and his kimono :D
clive burr is such an amazing drummer!
THat is so amazing. Love shem so much .52 yo old man 2 kids . We are still rocking.
I love that little reference to Queen's Keep Yourself Alive in there
Saw them in '81 in West Germany. Classic group.
This is one damn fine fast driving song!
love paul dianno as much as bruce!
A Classic!!!!
Paul diano 👏👏👏iron maiden💥
unrefined...the roots. thank you paul for laying the foundation.
thanks! shyt Paul was good live!
I agree that early maiden with Di`Anno has some punk influence, but this kinda amuses me since Steve Harris himself hates punk and said Maiden allways took distance from that scene. Still, this has a raw sound and riffing found in much punk as well.
Steve made his stupid soft metal band without ANY success until Paul joined who changed everything.
Metal band with punk attitude.
This song in particular sounds even closer to punk that to metal itself to me
Love Dave in this video!
Bruce is Paul too :P Paul Dickinson :P I like listening those songs from lovely voice of both Paul...
PAUL !!!!
Yeah man! And I love how they still do that when they do it live.
Thanks.
man this song makes me happy
probably makes top 5 best iron maiden songs IMO :D
40 fucking years! Jesus Christ where did the time go
Not many groups captured teen angst as well as maiden's first 2 albums. I'll never forget first hearing them. I wanted to immediately drink and party no matter where I was
damn right MAIDEN RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Wow this is some very vintage stuff right here......besides having Dennis Stratton in it what really caught my eye was the original version of "Eddie the head" n the back board........very cool video, thank for posting.
Being a maiden fan since 1988, I was only 14 when the first time I heard this band. Somewhere in time was my first album, I felt in love with this sound. Now first time I see this footage. So classic!! Thank you guys....🤟up the irons!!
I am 14 right now and am a big fan of the first two Maiden albums! I actually have a Killers backpatch
Paul the Best!
UP THE IRONS IN ILLINOIS!!!!!Greates heavy metal band of all time and they still continue to get snubbed by the rock-n-roll hall of fame.I know it probably doesnt matter to them, but I would like to see them get inducted while they are still playing and sounding great.Take and peace. Thanks for the download, these are some great memories.I've never seen them with Paul Dianno.Saw them the first time on the Number of the beast tour.never saw paul live.Because Killers is my favorite Maiden album.
EyeAmSoHumbled2HaveMetClive/Dave/Paul/Dennis/Steve in 1980 as the opening act4 KISS
muy bueno tu video al fin uno que tiene a dennis stratton
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh!
I agree, the first 2 albums are their best.
Maiden Japan is great as well.
I grew up loving Maiden with Bruce but, they were their best on Iron Maiden and Killers!!!!!!
Dickinson? You can have im, give me Paul D in his prime any fucking day, man - his voice is a shot of whiskey
yeah man this is iron maiden!
awsome! the break was genius
goddamn i could slam dance to this!!!! fuking great shit here!
That would be truly epic.
Love old school IM
Denys Stratton! WOW!!!!
Paul Di'anno ftw
damn this rocks so freakin hard
ah days my mistake :p early days i had it till i lost it ;/ awesome dvd up the irons
Yeah, the Keep yourself Alive riff from Queen!
Paul Di'Anno looks like Elvis Presley :D
did anyone ever see Paul Dianno , dB cooper, and elvis in the same place at the same time? and the zodiac killer??? up it!!!
much love Ehm, wut? :D
more like Sid Vicious.
Paul Di'Anno ...better than Dickinson. 😁
I see a bit of Rob Halford there too
🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
sounds sik as live, love it
Pure rock n roll...
Straton plays a hell of a guitar there.
This is so much better than when Bruce sings it. I love the bruce era maiden stuff, but paul is just so badass and raw.
Right on Brother \m/ ;)
Brateeeeeeeee, izuzetnoooooo
i agree with him
Steve's sound kick some fucking asses!!!
This rules SOOO hard
Can you believe this song wasn't on the first album?
For some reason I agree with you.Dont get me wrong I obviously love Bruce. But,there is something about the first 2 albums that I just really love, especially Killers.Killers not only had great songs, but a great concept and in my opinion one of the greatest album covers of all time. That is one of the things I miss about "digital" music, the album covers and it doesnt get any better in my opinion than Killers.Take care and peace.
although i was 10 when this came out i wanted to listen to someting other than cliff richard that my parents insisted on playing. what an epiphany :)))))))
this is maiden at their best!
Paul Di'anno é d+!!!
imagine showing this to steve harris he'd be like i miss those days.
このsanctuaryがベストだわ
@hiowaska
i agreee with you there. this earlier punk-ish sound is great, together with Pauls amazing voice..
i was...16 back then... omg!!
I know a guy that was there, that night.
fucking great :D
R.I.P Clive Burr.
Come on you Irons!
'''''top headbanger-song '''''''
it would be fucking fantastic
@hiowaska Same here mate....I started with Number of the beast and went towards the latter albums but now im just hooked heavily on to the first two albums...their my hands down favourites...
You mean Wrathchild and Sanctuary. Run to the Hills was not recorded until 1982, for The Number of the Beast LP, with Dickinson. Paul Di'Anno, to the best of my knowledge, never recorded Run to the Hills. And you're right, Iron Maiden stole the show with those 2 songs!
3.40 - Queen - Keep Yourself Alive
Most people got sick of Maiden long ago. Most people go to see them for the nostalgia, but their record sales have progressively declined since Powerslave. This here is the only true Iron Maiden, IMO.
no Maiden fans love the tunes, I play maiden all the time and I could care fucking less how much records they've sold. people sick of Maiden ..really.. how come every time I see them the place is sold out and there is as many young fans there as old. I will agree the D'ianno Maiden hits closer to the true Maiden but Paul couldn't keep it together.
This is IRON MAIDEN, NWOBHM KINGS
hahaha the really really beggining of iron maiden ...there werent as popular as they are now ...i dont know if in this time, it was all in their plan to be with maiden 20 years later !
Fucken awesome
I'm not old, just a recycled teenager ;). \m/
the only iron maiden i listen to are the FIRST TWO RECORDS, who is bruce dickinson anyway? and that dude nicko mcbrain? waddafuck?
1st 2 records are MY Iron Maiden
\m/ !!!!
I totally agree! That´s another Iron Maiden at that time. I even whatch the Rock in Rio show with Bruce and other guys, which was fine but didn´t have half the power or thrilling you could expect from Diano´s old times.
3:40 "Keep Yourself Alive" by Queen, people really overlook Queen's influence on metal.
Queen were metal but mainstream at the same time.
Guys , nothing touches ALL OF THEIR albums...Maiden has gone through many changes , yet still has got their own unique feel...let's appreciate it and Keep It Metal !
