If you need Starting Fluid and don't have any. You can use a RAG AND GAS ⛽ just put some Gas on the Rag and place it over the intake AIR FILTER and it works just the same. Hope this helps someone
I absolutely love watching stuff like this just sitting relaxing having a couple of cold beers and watching someone trying to start a big old doza that hasn't started for yonks love this stuff great upload thanks
Now these men know how to get to the point instead of a 45min video on everything their doing, I get why those long videos are out there for people troubleshooting their old vehicles. Thanks for the this jewel tho.

We would get a rag soaked in petrol and have it in the air filter area and squeeze it while the engine was cranked over, it used to work well on the old Jimmies.
On two stroke Detroit's there is an air shut off flap on blower ..spring loaded . If shut engine will never start even on either. I had many service calls long ago from emergency shut off flap tripped. Good job guys! 8v71 will make you deaf like me..
Of course it’ll start, it’s an 8V-71. As long as you check the racks and make sure there aren’t any stuck injectors, it could sit for decades and still start.
I know! Shame. When ever I have seen that in the past. Start asking questions. There is always a older man that started having health issues. Wasn't able to take care of his equipment any longer!
Used to be in the barn thats behind the camera man but was moved outside 10 years ago after sitting inside who knows how long was parked due to lack of compression and worn undercarriage and lack of work for the large machine
It is nice to get a little oil pressure before it starts, but as soon as that comes up you need to give 2-3 second blast of Either, it probably says that on the cane, I'm really surprised you didn't burn up the starter
@@zoggrog8823... Speaking as one (now retired) who worked with DD years ago, as a consultant on experimental engine development (2 cycle).... You, as others have stated, do Not know what you're talking about. No the machine is still on the property we got it running for the owner but he passed away shortly after unexpectedly machine clears up once it warms up
The battery setup is the same as a semi truck except for the tractor there using 4 instead of 8. Same battery size just not same efficiency. Having a battery the size of a VW would be great if it didn't melt from acidic or from the heat lmao.
@@TheFarmer256 what a fantastic mechanic you are I'm a fabrication Machinist I seen a guy start an old d8 on compression by towing it one time he says they can sit for years and start cuz the diesel won't allow the Pistons to freeze up very easily they cleaned the water out of the tank first and primed all the injectors somehow and got fuel up to them the pony motor was frozen up but that sucker started he said only give it starting fluid when you're cranking on it small amounts... Never when the crankshaft is not rotating. I love this kind of stuff thank you very much. He told me to never let a diesel tank get low on fuel cuz it agitates the silt in the bottom of the tank and it'll plug the filter up never less than quarter full. And I seen a guy siphon fuel by blowing in the tank with his mouth he put the hose in all the way to the bottom of the tank then took a wet rag and wrapped it around the hose where it comes out the opening to make a seal and he pressurizes the tank and that fuel comes right out that hose .you don't have to suck and get diesel down your throat.
I agree, it does sound like a detroit.... but there's something else, like maybe a stuck valve or injector. Doesn't sound right to me anyway, but I'm no terex expert by any means.

I just found an old D7 cat down at an old farm by where I live I don't know what's wrong with it looks like it's been sitting there awhile Watching this video makes me want to go down there and see if it will start
do not feed a detroit engine petrol or ether do it once and you will have to do it every time best way to get them to go is make sure the injectors are free and not stuck if every thing is ok remove air cleaner cartrage roll a news papper up dip the end in diesel set it on fire and let the flame be sucked into the intake manifold as the engine is turned over you will find it starts faster and easier and it won't get edicted works well if engine hasnt ..gone for a ..very long time or in arctic conditions

Looks like a Detroit engine lucky the injectors weren't stuck open, because it would have went full throttle and run away.

First start in a very long time? Rev the hell out of it as soon as it fires off. Lol.
that's just above idle for an 8v-71, remember its a two stroke so it sounds like its revving twice as hard as it is.
