    Thank you for the review! Warmth wise how do you think this would compare to the Patagonia DAS Light Hoody? Also warmth compared to the Mountain Equipment Oreus Hooded Jacket?

      I recently did another video about Belay jackets, I talk about both in that video too. This Rab is warmer, and a bit heavier than the DAS light. Closer to the Das Parka. I do own the Rab Generator, as I personally liked it better than the two Patagonia jackets. The DAS light is nice, This is just a bit heavier, and warmer, which I liked better. The DAS light is more comparable to the Arc'teryx Nuclei FL for weight and warmth. The DAS Parka uses the same type of insulation as the Rab generator, very comparable in warmth, but the main difference here, is that the Parka is bigger, more room inside, and a little longer. I just liked the overall fit and quality of the Rab Better.

      The Oreus jacket is a bit different. I would say that the Rab is designed as a belay jacket, to be worn over other layers. Yet it can be worn by itself at times as well. The Oreus is more of a stand alone jacket with a trimmer fit. It's great all by itself. That being said, due to it's materials and insulation, if you size up it will be a great belay jacket. Both have very weather resistant face fabrics, and very warm insulation. The Oreus's insulation is exceptionally warm for it's weight, making it an award winning piece.

    👍🏿👍🏿perfectly timed vid! You peaked my interest in belay jackets a few videos ago and in my research I realized this was out there. I don’t want to layer, should I size down?

      This is a great jacket. A keeper for me.🙂 The XL for me its my normal size, and for me, its doesn't feel very big and bulky. There's room under it with just a t-shirt, but it's not really oversized. I like the fit. Jackets fit everybody a bit differently, but I would start with your normal size and go from there. It's really not that big.

    Great video, which Arc’teryx pants are you wearing in this?

    This or the revised arcteryx Nuclei SV? The outer fabric on the Nuclei SV looks and feels better. They both look big and baggy.

      I like the Nuclei SV fabric more than I like Pertex. My daughter has a jacket with the same fabric as this Rab, and it’s not for me. It’s not bad, it’s an excellent fabric… but I like the feel of the Arcteryx much more. I’m not positive, but I think the SV has more insulation, yes?

      @@jayeadsthe revised one has 190g Coreloft vs 180g on the old one.

      The Nuclei SV is a lot heavier. The rab falls in the middle of the nuclei sv and the nuclei FL. I want to review the new nuclei sv, but it's all sold out at this time. So I'll keep checking to see when it is available. They both will fit a bit large, as they are made to fit over layers, much like a shell. For me the Rab fits well with just a t-shirt, but better with a layer underneath.

    Great vid! How does it compare to the Xenair Alpine in terms of warmth since they’re both 133g/m2 of insulation?

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes, both are 133 gsm, however they are very different jackets. The Xenair is a very breathable insulation layer, designed for high output activities. The jackets Fabric and insulation allows hot air Vapor to escape from the jacket, while allowing some cool air in to self-regulate and keep you comfortable. The generator is basically a belay jacket for climbing. It is not very breathable, and it is totally windproof not allowing the cold air / wind into the jacket. It is basically designed to be worn over top of an insulation layer such as the Zenair in extreme cold windy conditions.
