I did dry January now I'm 46 days alcohol free. The longest I've gone is 2 months. I started drinking in my teens and was I party drinker throughout my 20s to my early 30s. My drinking decrease tremendously when I got married. I was no longer around a heavy drinking crowd and I was okay with that. More recently, I was only drinking on my off days but it Alcohol no longer is desirable to me. Even a glass a wine was giving me gut issues. It also disrupted my sleep and made very dehydrated. Since I've been into fitness as long as been drinking, I no longer wanted to compromise my health.
Yes!! It is all bull****. We put this story around it, we romanticize it. It is terrible tasting crap, that we have been conned into drinking. I have said for years, I think it is the greatest con perpetuated on mankind.
Don't drink it if you don't like it. You have free will. Those of us truly love fine wine (or beer or scotch if that's one's preference) are not being conned into drinking it. We can sit back and laugh at the stupid people who can't control their drinking.
Correct. I work in the industry. We are not allowed to swallow at tastings. The industry doesn't care if you die. The volume of sales is shocking. It's not even safe to taste and spit as alcohol permeates the cells and blood quickly. Total poison.
many people have wet brain and don't know it ; 80 percent of wet brain is found at autopsy ; people just think they are getting forgetful ; memory isn't what it used to be ; it's an insidious poison pushed by our culture by big alcohol , big pharma ; they love people to drink , need meds, need hospitals and drs, etc.
This man is so smart and explains these things with such easy to understand metaphors. I’ve read 25 books about quitting or reducing alcohol, but this guy just “knocks it out of the park” Thank you
For me, I was more aware of the effects of drinking when I was drinking on my own. With friends, it was much more chaotic. I was preoccupied with socializing and the peer pressure of “keeping up” my drinking. I always drank more in a group than on my own.
28:03 I stopped drinking and my sleep hasn’t improved at all. I eliminate the blue lights, I read before going to bed, I get morning sunlight but yet I struggle to fall asleep and wake up multiple times throughout the night. Now I’ve never used alcohol to try and “sleep” I was a weekend binger when I go out. But honestly I was hoping by stopping my sleep would improve. In any case I don’t plan on going back. Other benefits are great.
@@_noahrh i prob drink about 400-500mg of caffeine a day because I never sleep so I’m dead tired. But I don’t drink any after 12pm. But tomorrow I’ll keep it to 60mg, a black tea
@@AthleticEducation it’s the caffeine - 100%. It’s hard to cut back but you’ll see the differences almost immediately, at least within a few days. 400-500 is a lot. I went from waking up a few times a night to once (or not at all) after quitting. Then a couple weeks ago I decided to start caffeine again, and it’s the same thing I wake up a few times each night now. You’ve got it!
If caffeine cutting doesn't work, it might be gastric or liver related sypmtoms which the alcohol would have sedated you through (whilst making the problem worse). Maybe try a short course of Omeprazole for a while to see if your sleep improves (if it does you might have some sort of "invisible" reflux) or try dietary changes to help your liver? Both of those approaches have helped me in the past.
I'm so glad I happened upon this. The book is aptly named. This is one of the best explanations about the effects of alcohol and our perceived notions of different aspects of it. Thank you!
I never been drunk in my life! As a kid I took a sip of my grandpas beer and it was the most disgusting thing i ever drank. Now at 25 I see how my friends drink and how bad they feel the next day and I read Williams book on alcohol and it helps me understand rather than judge.
My journey to sobriety started with the exact same Nikki Glaser clip. Alan Carr led me to Annie Grace and her book completely changed my mindset. Recently started Mr Porters book as well.
I keep going back to this shit even though it does this to me. I'm always craving that endorphin rush even though I know I'm going to pass out and forget stuff
Get rid of it. Get a friend. It's poison. You are killing yourself. Be your best. You have no idea how good you can feel and all the money that you will save. Be well. Be rich
The drinking often feels like a lifestyle - ahh dealing with life, empowered by alcohol - all a massive illusion that's causing the worst problems in life all along.
Billions upon billions of people have enjoyed alcohol throughout their life with no ill effect.. if you have a problem with alcohol ,then we must stop . But if you simply enjoy a drink sometimes ,then do it 😂😂😂 alot of these influencer's have taken it too far ,simply jumping on the alcohol free bandwagon, for UA-cam likes .
Everyone wuotes Allen Carre but nobody mentions Jason Vales bokk on the subject written two years before Allens . Vale used to work in Carres clinic by the way..
Had this book on my list to read. Already read Stop Drinking Now the Easyway so this book should be a great follow up. Hopefully it'll help crush my live for beer which is definitely turning into a nasty habit.
My taste changed after a month of going sober. I tried a beer and it was nasty! I could taste the alcohol in it and this was a light beer. I was kind of shocked because I'd drink this beer like it was water. It only took a month to lose the taste.
Our subconscious can be likened to a caveman seeking immediate gratification, even if it means harm in the long run. Unfortunately, alcohol can lead to not just slow deterioration but also immediate, often indirect, fatalities in various ways. This reality demands careful consideration. The more comforting alcohol feels, the greater the peril it poses.
Seriously one could simply say to those freaks that are saying come on just have one beer, Oh I’m doing a sleep study to see if zero alcohol might improve my sleeping. That this particular study requires zero alcohol consumption. Pathetic I even think about things to say to people but they do pressure.
Why do all these comments come from people that have given up alcohol???? Why are they still watching these videos??? Surly when your sober you have better things to do 🤔
Folks in Spain and Italy drink red wine all day long, every day and are generally happier and healthier than most Americans. This tells you that factors that having nothing to do with alcohol are responsible for American's problems.
There’s more factors that are to be more considered such as diet and lifestyle that play a far bigger role than alcohol. Any benefits from alcohol are minuscule at best and doesn’t contribute to happier and healthier living.
There's alcoholics in Spain and Italy too. There's all these weird romantic myths about Spain and Italy being magically healthier without knowing why. The reasons why are simple - they eat well, exercise and drink alcohol in a different way to other countries in general. But there's still plenty of people that don't follow that. There's plenty of alcoholics dying in their 40s and 50s from liver damage. The ones who "drink wine all day" are known as the drunk or are suffering from ill health. Also this whole red wine thing - why is it everyone says red wine!? Like people in these countries don't drink vodka, beer, or white wine!? Non alcoholic beer is massive in Spain, you can get it on tap in many bars now - what does that tell you? 😂 They know it's a drug.
Calm down, apart from the spiel about their business model at the start, they are not reading off a script. They are looking at each other on their monitors. And they probably go back to their notes from time to time. Sorry you feel triggered for them not looking into the camera 😂
This is not an honest treatise about alcohol. This is a propaganda campaign. I enjoy wine with a meal for the taste. I drink it most nights and pick the wine to complement the meal. But I keep to one or two glasses. I don't hangovers, nor I get increased anxiety because I don't drink to excess. Your comment about not enjoying alcohol except to get drunk is telling. I did this in my college days and cannot see the point of drinking to excess at my advanced age. In summary, your discussion is more about your preferences than it is about actual science. What a disappointing talk.
Newsflash: This podcast is not aimed at you. Good on you for sticking to 1 or 2 over dinner to compliment meals, but there are many more drinkers out there that, for one reason or another, do not stop at 2. This podcast is for them. Stop making everything about you with your negative, subtle flex of a comment.

Try cutting caffeine, if you drink coffee keep it to one cup in the morning. The difference is huge.
