Zodiac MX8 ELITE vs MX6 ELITE: Which is the Better Choice for my Pool?

- If you are in the market for a pool cleaner and are looking at the Zodiac MX8 Elite and MX6 Elite you may be wondering which one would be better for your particular pool. Note that the MX8 Elite and the M6 Elite are retail pool store cleaners only and cannot be purchased online. The online version of these two cleaners is the MX8 and MX6 which do not have the scrubbing brushes on the bottom.
Here is more about both cleaners from Zodiac:
“The Zodiac MX8 Elite is the first suction pool cleaner with Cyclonic Scrubbing Brushes that continually spin, scrub, and stay in constant contact with pool surfaces to agitate and remove stuck-on debris. The MX8 Elite features aggressive wall climbing to scrub at the tile line and maX-Drive Navigation for better pool coverage with nimble programmed maneuverability. Regardless of the surface, the MX8 Elite actively tackles debris and directs it to the inlet using dual-cyclonic technology. With a wide cleaning path and a convertible vacuum inlet to allow for larger debris, this low-flow, energy-efficient suction cleaner delivers a thorough, comprehensive clean that outpaces other premium mechanical suction cleaners.”
Features
Cyclonic Scrubbing Action - Tackles fine and stuck-on debris
Extreme Wall Climbing - Scrubs to the tile line
maX-Drive Navigation - Delivers advanced 360-degree programming patterns
Larger Debris Consumption - Allows for larger debris consumption
Wide Cleaning Path - For quicker, more comprehensive coverage
Replaceable Scrubbing Brushes - Easily removed when worn or dirty
Dual-Cyclonic Suction - Delivers extreme wall climbing ability
Flow Regulator Valve - Automatically controls excess water flow for optimal performance
Low-flow Energy Efficient Design - Performs with variable-speed pumps and solar installations
Twist-Lock Hose - Reaches 39' with secure section connections
MX6 Elite
“The new MX6 is a highly efficient pool cleaning robot that features best-in-class vacuum power and programmed navigation for a comprehensively clean pool without the hassle. MX6 boasts an innovative low-flow design so it consumes less energy than any cleaner in its class, making it the ideal cleaner for pools with 2-speed or variable-speed pumps.”
Features
Cyclonic Suction - Provides powerful suction and aggressive wall climbing.
X-Drive Navigation - Intelligent bi-directional navigation to thoroughly clean floor, walls, and waterline.
Optimized Flow Control - Automatically controls excess flow through cleaner for optimal performance and longevity.
Low-Flow Energy Efficient Design - Ultra efficient operation. Best choice for variable-speed and 2-speed pumps and solar.
Flex Power Turbine - Articulating turbine blades provide ultra-efficient operation, even on low-flow pumps.
Easy-Grip Handle - For easy removal and transport.
Quick Connect - Enables the quick secure attachment to the cleaner head
Twist Locking Hose - Provides simple connection and reduces vacuum loss.
For me, I would say that if you have a larger pool -15K gallons or more than the MX8 Elite would be the better choice. It comes with more hoses and the wider cleaning path will allow it to cover the pool quicker than the MX6 Elite. On the flip side of you have a smaller pool I would go with the MX6 Elite as the default model.
The MX6 Elite is much lighter and is ideal for Variable Speed pumps. I have run it successfully from a side port connection on as little as 2300 RPM. Running the MX6 Elite with a VS pump will maximize your energy savings since it does not require high speed to operate at. There are also fewer parts to replace on the MX6 Elite vs the MX8 Elite and both pick up the same size debris in my opinion.
It can be a tough choice between the two and both have the exceptional climbing ability in a pool and will clean your pool from the floor to the waterline.

You go into so much detail
Yes I am always the first want to watch These kind of videos you are the best pool guy I know keep up the hard work
Thanks Zachary! 👍
You're like reading my mind.. then making a video! Love the vids and tips!
Mx8 is great. Would buy it again for sure
Check out the new Polaris Atlas XT
love the MX8, slightly pricey when replacing parts, but when it works, its the best cleaner
Yes, and the parts are easy to change. 👍
Great information!
I have the MX6. Non-elite. I think it works outstanding for a suction based vac. Difference being the scrubbing disks that are on this one. But I can just buy them and put it on mine.
Yes, you can. That is the only difference.
Does it use the same part as the MX8? Amazon seems to only carry the one.
@@dbrowdy Yes, the MX6 uses the same scrub disc. I actually bought the scrub disc pack for the MX8 Elite. It comes with the two, so you’ll have a spare. I hope that helps.
@@MattMcC7100 Awesome, I know it's been a year since your comment, so thx so much for the help! (Holy crap, it's a year to the day! How random!)
@@dbrowdy Wow that’s crazy! Ha, no problem. Anytime. Have a good one.
could the mx6 elite be optimal for a 32 foot long by 13 feet wide in ground pool? I am on a budget for now and the mx6 elite requires less maintenance and less parts to replace, i also have a Xtreme power US 2hp variable speed pump, any suggestions i would love and appreciate
It depends. If there is a side suction port in the middle of the pool then yes. If not you are pretty close to being short a couple of hose sections.
@ okay thank you, by the way I’ve been watching you videos lately and they have helped a lot 👍
So it seems the MX8 elite would be good for debris but not dirt as due to the turbines on the bottom it would just blow the fine dust out which is the problem i currently have with the Polaris sport 9550. Am i correct? In ur review for the Mx elite u stated is used a lot in AZ which has a lot of dust. My main issue is with dust, but i also wanted something that can do some kind if scrubbing. Would u still recommend this for dust? Which one is better for my case use the pool cleaner or MX8 elite? Thanks!
It will work fine for dust. It may blow some up but it will resettle and the MX8 Elite will pick it up.
@@SPL thank you for all your help. Your videos are awesome and my respect for being such an awesome human being and sharing your knowledge!
I have a 16x40 with a Jandy variable speed. It would go through the skimmer - Any suggestion?
Maybe a Robotic pool cleaner instead.
In a dilemma. Need your professional opinion. Have a one horse power single speed pump used with a 4 wheel pool cleaner. Lately it’s been stopping after some time. I’ve dissemble it all parts and rebuild back with no issues. So the next plan of action I cleaned out my DE filtration system by back washing it 3x. Seems to help but pool cleaner just stops after awhile. So should I look into getting a better more powerful pump or consider this MX8?
How old is the 4X PoolCleaner? Maybe it is wearing out. If it is 4-5 years old that is a possibility.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To - SPL My 4x is less than a year old. Called manufacturer and they said parts are warranty but not labor. To be honest I’ve felt like the rpm is not fast enough. From one of your videos. You said to count the number of time the wheels turn and mine doesn’t even come close but was still able to clean the entire pool when I first got it.
@@absolutelyflying How is it connected to your pool? maybe send me some pics of your equipment and where the cleaner is attached. Send to david@swimmingpoollearning.com
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To - SPL Ok will do. Thank you very much.
i have a chattahoochee deck with a hayward navigator that constantly stops because of pebbles in unit. How does the Zodiac MX6 handle that? I have a 15x30, 15000 gal pool. thank you
It will probably do better. I wonder if you upgrade your Navigator to the V-flex turbine if that will fix the issue. Hayward VVX3000CKITWH Basic V-Flex(TM) Upgrade Kit For Navigator(R) V-Flex(TM) Automatic Suction Pool Cleaners; White
Some have complained that palm fronds or stringy materials are the achilles heel of this machine, because of the motor in the middle gets the string / fronds wrapped around it and ceases up. Do you have any input on that ? I have palm trees (so. florida) and I get the stringy sheds in my pool all the time.
In your case the MX cleaners would not be a good choice. You will find it clogged up during the season because of the engine design. I think you would be better off with the Hayward PoolCleaner/Aquanaut/Phoenix although they won't climb as well as the MX cleaners, they don't get clogged by the stringy debris.
@@SPL Thank you so much for the advice! You're the best channel out there on youtube for Pools!
With no smart capabilities, how long would the MX8 elite take to sufficiently clean a medium sized pool? Can you also drop this in a circular shaped spa and expect it to clean well?
Excellent questions. I also would like to know the answers.
Would say dropping into a spa would not work well. For a medium size pool figure 8 hours to get the pool entirely clean. With it running everyday the pool will be pretty spotless.
8 hours it’s clean
Had to replace my old MX6. All the hoses cracked with in 2 years. A new set of hoses is $149. A hole new unit with hoses is $249. Went with a hole new unit. Only thing is I’m getting air bubbles in pump basket. I’m assuming it’s sucking air from one of the hoses. When I shut down the vacuum air bubbles are gone. Any thoughts?
Strange. Maybe air at the pump? hard to believe with new hoses.
What is the difference between small and medium size pool. What are the dimensions that you discuss. My pool is roughly 15x30 12,000 gallon
That would be a small pool. So the MX-6 would work fine in there.
I have a pool that has the MX6...previous version. However if you don't have really good suction it just doesnt work that well.
I've had the MX6 for about 2 years and honestly I'm not impressed. I have palm trees in my yard and the thin strands of palm trees are constantly getting wrapped up the spinning parts and disabling it. The Hayward Navigator I previously had just sucked those up and cleaned the pool.
They have fixed that issue with their new AtlasXt. Not sure if an MX6 type Atlas is in the works.
Just bought the MX8 Elite cleaner, so far it cleans well my only complain is that with a variable speed pump when it changes RPM settings the adapter comes off the skimmer . Any suggestions to fix it?
You should run the cleaner only at the RPM you calibrate it for, otherwise you will either run through the plastic gears faster, or not have enough suction to clean.
I have a 15k gallon pool with a variable pump, curious to know which one will work better with my pump? I am guessing my pool is medium size and applies to both mx6 and mx8
MX6 is lighter. Would go with that one if you plan on running it on lower speeds.
Can the MX8 Elite be safely used in vinyl liner pools?
Yes, it won't damage the liner.
@@SPL David, thank you for the fast responses. I ordered an MX8 Elite yesterday. I could not find a dealer with a Polaris Atlas XT. Oddly - many had not even heard of the Atlas XT.
They appear to be the same except for color.
Would the Mx6 Elite work on my above ground pool 16x48? Also does this Mx6 elite pick up sand or fine particles from the ground? Thank you
Would say for an above ground pool to go with the Zodiac Ranger. It will give you better coverage.
@@SPL my above ground pool 16x48 has a sand filter pump and it has enough power, what pool cleaner would you recommend?
does the mx6 clean the bottom sides, corners & steeps good?
Yes, but not the steps. It climbs really well.
@@SPL thanks so much, seems like none do steps to well : )
Which on is best for 22,000 gallon pool with 3HP Pentair VSF Pump?
MX8 Elite
Just bought a MX8 Elite at Leslie's this morning. They are having a good sale. $342 + tax. 2 year warranty.
@@JMurphy357 THat is an awesome price!
I have a single speed pump 20k gallon pool. which would work for me?
MX8 Elite would be better. 👍
i read that the MX8 Elite requires 28000 RPMs how Many RPS's will the MX 6 require to operate?
Maybe around 2200-2300 RPM. It is pretty light.
I have the mx8 it is so good Especially with the algae cleaning ability and great wall climbing ability to
It is a solid choice for sure. I have a new rebuild video coming out Weds so stay tuned! 👍
I tried the MX8 about 2 years for ABOVE GROUND pool.........it did not work well and got caught up often on walls/ladders.
Yes, not designed for above ground pools really.
There's a new zodiac g6 cleaner
My mx8 doesn't go fast enough using the maximum speed in my pentair variable speed.
Got to adjust the suction to give the cleaner more and skimmer/main drain less
