I’m honestly debating on getting a PS5 just to play this game. I know it probably wouldn’t be worth it, but I love 3D platformers and Mario Galaxy is by far my personal favorite of the genre. That, combined with how much praise Astro Bot has been receiving, makes me tempted to buy one.
It's worth it. You can play Astros Playroom, then Astro Bot, and then you can play the Crash Bandicoot remasters, Crash Bandicoot 4, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Sackboy a Big Adventure, Little Big Planet 3, or any other PS5 game and a lot of other PS4 games that are backwards compatible. So that way you aren't just getting it for one game
But even if you collected the rift the first time it would take you out of the level and you'd still have to go back through to 100% anyways. Mainly for all rift levels unless the rift is the final collectable you are forced to play it twice.
Played ~40 minutes, and was instantly hooked. Loved Astro Bot 1 and this is just an incredible sequel already. Concord was an absolute disaster and (I think) actually THE worst flop in video game history. But at least they have Astro Bot to make SOME money back. Everyone loves it and so do I.
5:15 I don’t say it 100% doesn’t have inspirations, but I’m sick of people saying that every good platformer is inspired by Mario. I’ve never played Mario platformers, but if I would make one and if it would turn out to be 97/100 game people would probably say that it is the clone of Mario. Like imagine if the new type of art is created and I use it to create many thing often not that hard to think about like for example beach, underwater or something. Now the question is: if someone will make something similar or with the same theme does it means he was making inspiration or copying me?
Galaxy remains my all-time favourite Nintendo game of all time, and while Astro can't quite claim that position among Playstation's library in my eyes, it's nevertheless bringing that Galaxy magic to the brand ^_^
As they say Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Astrobot is a fantastic game and one of PS5's best games, Arguably even better then Spiderman 2 and Ratchet and clank rift apart.
Oh and with the frog shit with the missiles: you actually don’t have to sit there and fire back at each one individually. You’re sucking up like 20 missiles and only need one per enemy. You legitimately just have to aim the cursor over each enemy after the first wave of missiles and boom, they’re all dead in like 5 seconds.
I’m planning on getting it. Especially with Play Station characters being in it just want to redo God of War, Uncharted and Horizon before I do this game.
The dips in Astro Bot were too minor for me to warrant an entire point drop. Both games are masterpiece 10/10s. Would have to play both games back to back to confirm which is better though. Mario Odyssey’s movement freedom still edges it out for me as the king.
@@ppo9200 any high and lows for Odyssey that come to mind. Surprised how poorly the sentiment around that game has aged over the years as I only played it 2 years ago.
Too bad that this game doesn't have a beautiful space waifu like the Mario Galaxy games do (i.e. Rosalina). Maybe in a DLC expansion or a sequel it could happen? Won't stop me from buying this game though. 👍
Don’t get me wrong it’s a fun as hell game but I think calling it for GOTY is blowing it out of proportion, like Helldivers 2 is or was a fun as hell game but GOTY it is Not 😅
You sure you want an extra life system or game overs in this game? People say those things are outdated nowadays because of how inconvenient they make progress in gaming. Super Mario Odyssey didn't have them at all and got a lot of praise for it.
how could anyone I MEAN ANYONE in their right mind say astro bot has better music. there are opinions sure. but you aren't allowed to have that opinion sorry
The ps button challenge level can go to hell. And no, I dont believe that the next astro game should be harder. The game should be a relaxing game with little tedious aspects to it, just like the button challenge maps. Not every game needs to be a souls level sweat fest. This game certainly should not be.
I'm with ya on that one. I sympathize with people that want more of a challenge, but for me I liked having a game to just sit back relax and have fun with. I already have plenty of challenging games to play so its nice to be able to just have a chill game every now and then. And yes, that final level was pain. Beat it, but still...
What about this game means that it should lack challenging levels. What you call tedious or frustrating is seen as thrilling and the highlight/peak of the game to others.
Astro or to me is much better than galaxy and rival odyssey it is my favorite Mario that to me is the only one to surpass super Mario world to me and at that it’s close because of nostalgia
This really isn't criticism towards the game I'm going to say here, but more questioning its position given where it exists. Is this game really going to sell well enough to the point that Sony is willing to make a sequel out of this? Because most of the time there are rated E-E10 games in Sony, they never last that long, or if they do, they'll end up so far removed from what they started out as. Because this is the same company that actively portrays themselves as a game, you only play for the games rated T to M 90% of the time. So, having this cute little game that took half of the PS5 lifecycle to be released, yeah.... unless this game shockingly sells over 20 million despite all the odds. I don't think Sony would bother continuing as series like this, at least not anytime soon. (Microsoft did this with Hi-fi rush this year, so this isn't out of the question all things considered)

Game length is similar, but astro bot has better graphics, animations, enviromental effects, spectacle, more ambitious boss fights, motion controlls, powerups, sound design and challenge. The bosses are atleast as fun.The cutscenes are atleast as impressive.
Mario galaxy has a slightly wider moveset but it essentially adds nothing other than sounding good. The sense of scale is just an illusion created by the backgrounds being deep space much of the time. The scale of the levels, bosses etc is the same. The variety of enemies in mario galaxy is bigger, but overall the variety is similar.
I love both, butAstro bot wins.
You know unfortunately this is gonna be the new mascot for PlayStation probably. Man I miss the LittleBigPlanet days R.I.P. Game look great though
In my opinion i just feel zelda an mario are the same game just in different universes an they both thrive! So i think astro an mario can be on the same stage an thrive as well as good platformers.
1:20 Horizon is a successful series, never got why people always bash it, the game is awesome.
So that way you aren't just getting it for one game
it's gonna go to steam and Nintendo since the game is selling poorly
But even if you collected the rift the first time it would take you out of the level and you'd still have to go back through to 100% anyways. Mainly for all rift levels unless the rift is the final collectable you are forced to play it twice.
There’s a couple rift levels where u can go through the whole level, collect everything, then go back to the rift
It’s mostly because. Sony’s studios are just made for single player bangers
So sony answer to the ps5 is copying nintendo... pathetic
Tell me you’re a kid without telling me you’re a kid 😂
@ROBOTG4MER2511 I'm just stating the obvious.
I mean you’re not wrong, astrobot IS a rip off of Mario. But it doesn’t make the game bad imo. It’s still good.
The first Horizon was a masterpiece!
@TP-pq9xx I say I don’t know if developers were making inspirations or not + I was talking also about other platformers

My favorite so far is the mouse level, it makes me think how fire an ant man video game would be.
Mario still has the better platforming, music and challenges imo. Astro Bot is real good tho
I really hope Astro bot remains PlayStations mascot and they don't axe him like sack boy
7:30 you can aim at all of them at once. Lol
Eh still dumb
The old Mario games did the names in the credits thing.
I am so glad this game exists but I need another Spyro game
Isn't spyro referenced in astro bot just like the other characters in Playstations history
do they have the spooky mountain men tho
It reminds me more of Little Big Planet more tbh
Oh and with the frog shit with the missiles: you actually don’t have to sit there and fire back at each one individually. You’re sucking up like 20 missiles and only need one per enemy. You legitimately just have to aim the cursor over each enemy after the first wave of missiles and boom, they’re all dead in like 5 seconds.
Ya didn’t know that still a pretty weak section tbh
@@C0LIN. Fair. Barely noticed because it’s kind of really a quick level
I find those sections pretty satisfying thought because of the haptic feedback @@C0LIN.
I’m planning on getting it. Especially with Play Station characters being in it just want to redo God of War, Uncharted and Horizon before I do this game.
Astro Bot had Cole McGrath in it (you don’t do that unless you care)
Dude didnt like the simple cute bird boss fight. Lmao relax man
Spoiler warning would've been really cool...
The dips in Astro Bot were too minor for me to warrant an entire point drop. Both games are masterpiece 10/10s. Would have to play both games back to back to confirm which is better though. Mario Odyssey’s movement freedom still edges it out for me as the king.
@@Yu7Zi both games are great, but more like 9/10.Mario odyssey is less impressive overall, its highs are great but its lows are worse.
@@ppo9200 any high and lows for Odyssey that come to mind. Surprised how poorly the sentiment around that game has aged over the years as I only played it 2 years ago.
A resounding yes.
Too bad that this game doesn't have a beautiful space waifu like the Mario Galaxy games do (i.e. Rosalina). Maybe in a DLC expansion or a sequel it could happen? Won't stop me from buying this game though. 👍
HEEYYYYYYYYY MAN
I still play the game with that Ginger Girl 😂😂😂
Don’t get me wrong it’s a fun as hell game but I think calling it for GOTY is blowing it out of proportion, like Helldivers 2 is or was a fun as hell game but GOTY it is Not 😅
Yes. By a Longshot. But it wouldn't be where it was without it.
My answer is No. While Astro Bot is an amazing game, it’s not gonna top Super Mario Galaxy (both games).
eh I don’t know, if anything I feel like astrobot is pretty inspired by galaxy. (As a big galaxy AND astro bot fan)
You sure you want an extra life system or game overs in this game? People say those things are outdated nowadays because of how inconvenient they make progress in gaming. Super Mario Odyssey didn't have them at all and got a lot of praise for it.
Never as good as Mario Games.
acting as if mario games are good except for like very few old ones and odyssey lol
astro bot still pretty much clears them
I feel like galaxy is better, but I respect the opinions of others😅
Please Sony make more platformers
The Sony answer to some of Marios best platformers!
Free DLC with harder levels coming later this year 🔥
how could anyone I MEAN ANYONE in their right mind say astro bot has better music. there are opinions sure. but you aren't allowed to have that opinion sorry
Short answer: Best game in the world
Blud are you fr? Man u look like a 5 year old who played just this game. Man go play some REAL games
Why did you have to give us a spoiler of Astro fake death? You didn’t even set a spoiler alert.
Astro Bot is honestly probably a better game, but my nostalgia is impenetrable!
Nintendo got 24 hours to respond
No but it’s damn close
The game is definitely better than Super Mario Galaxy, but if it's as good or better than Super Mario 64 is what I'm still not sure of
It's better than 64. But not better than Galaxy.
Astro bot is a masterpiece 👌 👏 🙌
Yes Astro Bot is better but between these games were 17 years and many of the Ideas that Astro Bot used were instpired by 3d Marios like Galaxy
No.
Better then mario galaxy 1? Maybe, Better then galaxy 2? No
I’m the opposite. I think galaxy 1 is better than 2 and think astrobot is better than 2 but not 1.
@@TimDespairBear11galaxy is better only in story and maybe music, galaxy 2 is better.
3 PlayStation mascot levels? There’re 5. One at the end of each world
I liked the other 2 I just didn’t even know they were PS Mascots
@@C0LIN.Each of them is supposed to represent the console they started in. Ape escape ps1, God of war ps2, uncharted ps3, going loco psp, horizon ps4
This is what happens when SweetBabyInc stays tf away from PlayStation Studios
You thought you cooked with that. Where you get that argument at from Ryan Kinel or thequartering
...
@TP-pq9xx absolutely not🤣
I'm not really sure if Collin even cares about anything related to Sweet Baby Inc.
Was Astro Bot written by Peter David?
No otherwise we couldn’t criticize it
Nintendo gon sue
Not you bullying Aloy 😂😂
Astro boy trying to keep Sony alive after PS5 pro and Concord.
Helldivers, rise of the ronin and stellar blade are also carrying Sony too
@@lastmonarchistproduction_253those suck tho
@@lastmonarchistproduction_253 I meant the last month. Sony still has great games I just meant that recently Sony has been struggling.
@@dablindscooter1973except helldivers
Astrobot flops though.
Short answer is "NO"
1:19 real
Astro or to me is much better than galaxy and rival odyssey it is my favorite Mario that to me is the only one to surpass super Mario world to me and at that it’s close because of nostalgia
The music is an extremely acquired taste id say
I love how upset this game gets nintendo fanboys lol.
I don't know any Nintendo fan that's upset about Astro Bot. Well, except for maybe Harman Smith.
Which one did you like more, Galaxy 2 or Astro Bot?
Haven’t played Galaxy 2 yet I’m gonna get around to it tho
@@C0LIN.DO IT. It's one of the GOATs in the Mario franchise.
