The innovative part is debatable 😗 Nintendo has that gyro, blow microphone & stuff gimmick for decades ago About different gameplay for each level, that's a standard platformer gimmick, such as ben10 that requires different aliens depends on the level
To be honest, you can say that Astrobot don't deserve the GOTY, but please don't say its gameplay is bad. Except for the high price and short process, there are no flaws in the gameplay. After all, it is the accumulation of Nintendo's design over so many years. 😊
I’m absolutely not making the argument that the gameplay is bad or that the design choices are bad or even that the music is bad. All of it is good, awesome in fact but speaking plainly this game objectively didn’t deserve game of the year. See from my perspective, and this may just be anecdotal, people who predominantly play PlayStation games specifically the demographic that enjoyed astobot, may have genuinely never played Mario galaxy, so they can’t see the one to one comparisons here😅. I honestly thought I was going insane thinking about the similarities that I actually had to compare galaxy and Astro bot just to check, and it’s clear to see like, come on, how is it fair that actual Mario still hasn’t won game of the year (from this award show not golden joystick) but somehow Astro bot does it copying the exact formula that Mario did. That’s not even going into the fact that there were other games competing with it that were superior in my opinion. This was unreasonable but it makes a lot more sense when you consider the fact that only 10% of player votes contribute to the actual turn out of the award show except for ‘players choice’ obviously. My point in all this though was that I think many people aren’t dismissing the game because it’s bad here but rather they simply feel that the game wasn’t good enough to justify its accolades. This may have cultivated the opinion that everyone thinks the game is bad but that isn’t the case at all, my only opinion is the award show is unfair astrobot is only catching flack as a byproduct of that. Honestly, the game winning doesn’t put into question the game itself but rather the award show, smh.
it's game of the decade, dude. you need to understand that most people would not care or like the games that you like and you cannot put yourself in the middle of the discussion.
@@brooklyn9291Yes, actually what I want to express is that TGA is unfair, not only to Mario, but also to most other games. It's just that they used Astrobots to divert players' attention, which made me a little impulsive.

The fact that we are comparing a newly released playstation game with a game made on what is essentially a 10 year old tablet at this point says a LOT about Odessey. What Nintendo was able to deliver truly is amazing. Not saying Astrobot doesn’t look better, how could it not, and Astrobot is certainly enjoyable too! Proud owner of both games! Mario odessey is still a better game for sure, so I can only imagine what Nintendo will be able to pull of on their next console! Maroo truly is the face of videogames. That said, Astro definitely had a fantastic debut! Here’s to the resurgence of Mascotte platformers! 🥂
Mario Odyssey is so good. Didn't play Astro, but it does look amazing (both graphically and on the Gameplay side). Odyssey is like, S tier for me. 245 hours on that game, 100% never felt boring. If astro is 25% as good as Odyssey, It's already one of the greatest games of the decade.
Low key want a game with both. It will never happen but that'd be sweet. Side note astro graphics are on another level that you can't see here in the video. Along with haptics. Chefs kiss. Makes me wonder what Nintendo could do with ps5 hardware.
Mario Odyssey already looks beautiful and runs at 60 FPS. Just imagine what 3D Mario will be on Switch 2... Anyways, both games are crazy good looking (Mario and astro).
no sorprende, ps1 nació directamente para competir con la 64, copiaron los wiimotes con su ps move, copiaron el smash con all star battle royale, sacaron sus propios amiiibo con otro nombre, etc., hace décadas sony hace lo mismo que nintendo
In an era where most triple A games are made to be serious, dark, and edgy, you just gotta appreciate good platformers like Mario and Astro Bot. Loved both equally, 100% completed Odyssey and is currently aiming platinum for Astro. Haven’t had this motivation to complete a game for any other genre lol
What’s almost most impressive is that Astro Bot manages to replicate even the stubborn 3D Nintendo game problem of a camera that is the biggest threat you face because it can’t fully capture depth perception in platforming. That is an achievement in a way.
They are both amazing. Astro is superior graphically. But that art style on Odyssey is unbeatable, also the physic. Yes, Astro’s developers had a strong inspiration on Mario’s games
Astro bot looks good and the fact that mario Odyssey can look like a ps5 game is crazy no hate on either game (EDIT) omg I get it it's not 4k but I think they both look equally good ok it's my opinion ok have a good day
Odyssey looks good but UA-cam compresses even 4K footage uploaded onto here so Astro Bot isnt being shown at its highest quality. Having stylized graphics helps Mario but it’s still night and day when you compare them side by side without UA-cam compression and looking at the environmental textures up close
Maybe on emulator upscaled 4K graphics and high-quality AA it looked like an early PS4 platform game. But on real hardware nope they cut corners to make the game runs at smooth framerate on Switch.
platformer games always one of the best niche genre out there, even it takes two (which is also platformer won the GOTY 2021) and nobody hated about it

7 years old game running on cell phone hardware vs basically a pc. Only thing left is art direction which astro bot is mostly an ad with cameos in a tech demo environment.
Astro Bot is better. Mario Odyssey is a fine game, but isn't truly elite like Mario Galaxy. Astro Bot has a better moveset, better level design and the content is fun. I hated getting Moons just for talking to NPCs in Odyssey.

Astro bot is great but everything being a blue eyed robot gets a little old. @@man-xy I haven't finished it (about 50-60%) but imo the game relies way too much on linear level designs (albeit they are very unique and well designed) and has no depth to the controls at all, even when you get level specific abilities.
@@man-xy eh, fair enough, perhaps you have a point.

@@brooklyn9291Yes, actually what I want to express is that TGA is unfair, not only to Mario, but also to most other games. It's just that they used Astrobots to divert players' attention, which made me a little impulsive.
Only Nintendo developers are in S tier man. Sony is up there but Nintendo is alone at the top.
Agreed. I think odyssey is better than Astro imo

I think Mario Odyssey looks better. Has stronger art direction.
I never cared for technical graphics.
Better art debatable but odyssey is just better imo
And It's 60 FPS, Nintendo really can push it's hardware. Just imagine 3d Mario on Switch 2... Astro kinda gave us a sneak peak of that.
It has a much more inspired art direction, and more polished, that's undeniable.
Just by looking at colors and lighting would be enough. Then look at the rest and it's absolutely clear.
Astrobot musics bring me so much happiness somehow
@jumentoqueanima Odyssey was boring to me, but maybe it’s because I’m not the biggest Mario fan
0:51 yeah because Astro is a robot. Advanced technology my friend. Even Astro Boy from the anime has the same ability.
Okay? Why bring a comparison of two very different ips with similar names.
In Japan, Astro Boy is called Tetsuwan Atom (lit. Iron-Armed Atom).
Dude has wet dreams with Astro Boy, apparently
What is this guy talking about??
@@Zepellin well... both of them are a sort of robots, i guess
Low key want a game with both. It will never happen but that'd be sweet. Side note astro graphics are on another level that you can't see here in the video. Along with haptics. Chefs kiss. Makes me wonder what Nintendo could do with ps5 hardware.
more grass density..
Mario Odyssey already looks beautiful and runs at 60 FPS. Just imagine what 3D Mario will be on Switch 2... Anyways, both games are crazy good looking (Mario and astro).
Super Mario Odyssey + Super Mario Galaxies + Ps5 = Astro Bot
+Mario sunshine
+Mario 64

What’s almost most impressive is that Astro Bot manages to replicate even the stubborn 3D Nintendo game problem of a camera that is the biggest threat you face because it can’t fully capture depth perception in platforming. That is an achievement in a way.
Astro bot: Cookies?
Mario: Thank you!
"HE CAN'T DROWN" hell yeah he can't
They are both amazing. Astro is superior graphically. But that art style on Odyssey is unbeatable, also the physic. Yes, Astro’s developers had a strong inspiration on Mario’s games
0:09 Astro bot: 👋🥶👋🥶👋
Astro bot looks good and the fact that mario Odyssey can look like a ps5 game is crazy no hate on either game (EDIT) omg I get it it's not 4k but I think they both look equally good ok it's my opinion ok have a good day
lmao, no it doesn't. It doesn't look close to astro bot's visual crispness and detail
@@LiveLXStudiosMario odyssey release in 2017😑
Odyssey looks good but UA-cam compresses even 4K footage uploaded onto here so Astro Bot isnt being shown at its highest quality.
Mario Odyssey does NOT look like a Ps5 game. A lot of these comparisons do not demonstrate why or how the ps5 is leagues more powerful.
platformer games always one of the best niche genre out there, even it takes two (which is also platformer won the GOTY 2021) and nobody hated about it
Refreshing to see a comparison of two wonderful games.
Lately when YT recommends a comparison, it's a depressing reminder of how far Ubisoft have fallen.
Yeah. XD
How has Ubisoft fallen btw? I don't really play their games.
But suddenly...
A Hat in Time 2: **appears out of nowhere ** none of you are at my level.
I actually saw someone say wukong is just a rip off of dark souls, as a reason why astro bot deserved GOTY
That’s wild
That's a lame excuse
To be honest gameplay wise it wasn't that amazing
Astro bot is a copy of almost every 3d mario
Been a Mario fan since NES. Playing Astro Bot now. Love both games.. I am having more fun now playing AB
Havnt played a Mario game since Sunshine. And I have only played Astros Playroom. Im going to get my daughter a switch oled for her 4th birthday, and im going to buy astro bot for us both to play on my ps5 since she enjoyed playing Astros Playroom
I would recommend not buying a Switch Oled yet. The next Switch might be announced soon and from the rumors. It is backward compatible.

One big disappointment I have with recent Mario games is the lack of a hub area and it was at its worst in the last 2 mainline entries I really hope they address this in their next game.

I just platinumed astro bot and it's a super fun game. I do, however, prefer Mario. I prefer the gameplay, control, characters and ascetics of Mario. Astro bot is great but everything being a blue eyed robot gets a little old. And everything branded PlayStation too, like Mario's Odyssey instead of a ps5 shaped ship or Mario's gold coins instead of PlayStation coins. It's not too bad but Mario is better in my opinion. And the game astrobot as whole is a fantastic game, but Mario has the experience.
It's impossible to prefer Mario Odyssey over anything but I respect your opinion

Astor bot is the first to come remotely close to beating any Nintendo platformer.
when the game came out a lot of streamers never finished the game on stream. it was probably too long and too boring. even from this limited footage it looks boring. is it really that good? did you finish it and if yes, did you play it multiple times?
@@man-xy I haven't finished it (about 50-60%) but imo the game relies way too much on linear level designs (albeit they are very unique and well designed) and has no depth to the controls at all, even when you get level specific abilities. Not to mention the Playstation glaze annoys me. Riding on a dualsense controller through space to repair a giant ps5 space ship is so hard to take serious. More of a children's game than odyssey because of it's simplicity.

I am here to point to normies that good games have ALWAYS WON THE TEST OF TIME. The powerful movie-games age like milk and the "muh physics" can only carry you so far if there is not a good gameplay loop or story you the details are superficial. Also from 2017 to 2024 there has not been a great leap in quality nor tech
Imagine you have 2 goty material games, clashing each other in 2017

Even if Astrobot stole ideas from Nintendo games, I don't want single player games and 3D platform genre to die or decrease.
The thing that connect them : They both let you be evil and hit other people.
