    I'm not even a muscle car person and I think Dodge hit the nail on the head here. No pretense of being a track car that can beat a 911 around Nurburgring. Just raw, tire shredding horsepower, a big boot, the nicest interior in its class and an automatic transmission option. Perfect.

    707hp, $60K, buy it is the only possible answer. Unfortunately no one will be able to buy it for anywhere close to $60K. Should be some pretty scary markups on these.

    Just bought the 2014 100th Anniversary Edition Challenger V6. Almost identical interior minus the HUD and speedometer being slightly different. These cars are worth every penny. As a not rich normal american coming out of college. Let me tell you I test drove every muscle car I could find in my area and this one was the only thing I fell in love with. The Mustangs are great, but their interior's generally look cheesy until you get to something over 40k. The cameros just aren't what they advertise as unless you go for a high end one. The hemi's are great, but lets face it in the real world unless you take it to the track, even on I-81 you are limited in speed by the number of cars in front of you. They literally eat gas too. The v6 still gets over 300hp and I average 30mpg on the high way. So it doesn't break the bank day to day. All in all I would recommend every version of the Challenger 2014 model year =>.

    • @PrinceDavid
      @PrinceDavid 10 років тому +2

      Adam Cooprider Yeah the money really went into the car's engine and mechanicals and stuff, so the interior is just supposed to be good enough to be comfortable to ekep price down. I am curious to see how Ford responds to this car with their next SVT car, but i do really like this one.

    • @LakaiGirlAppsSkill

    • @PrinceDavid
      @PrinceDavid 10 років тому +5

      Adam Cooprider Yeah same here, I also prefer Ford. Challengers have always just seemed too heavy for me but they make crazy quick drag cars. Hats off to these people for making this much horsepower yet giving the car enough traction and mechanics to handle it. My dad used to have a GT500 and as cool as it was, that car had trouble keeping that power under control.

    OK, lets do the math and go down memory lane. I was 18 in 1977 and most muscle cars of that era were 10 years old and that is all we had to buy in high school. My first car was a black on black 1967 Camaro bought for 1000$ . My second car in high school was a 68' SS Camaro with a stock 427, Hurst four speed and hidden headlights for the ungodly sum of 1200$ That was the average price of a used muscle car. I had my choice of Novas, malibus, mustangs, challengers, chargers, Firebirds, Camaro, or even a Corvette-1966-71 if I had the money. The 1978 Anniversy vette at the local GM dealer fully loaded was $ 11,000. Fully loaded= (Total piece of CRAP by the way). My dream car, I let get away was a high school senior who was selling his black on black, all stock Chevy 1969 Camaro Z28 for the UNGODLY sum of 2500$ Which was a lot of money in those days. The Hellcat is 60 Grand? I am sure for that money I can make ANY car make that kinda horsepower. The only cars I did not see in high school , were the Hemi powered muscle cars. I saw a Mud Racer Jeep owned and parked in a local gas station, with a 427 Hemi, Dual quad tunnel ram and it was a HUGE engine with CHrome valve covers. Never heard it run though. Pity. Hemi's were very Rare even in 1979. My friend had a 1970 AR Cuda with a 318? six pack that could lift the front end off the ground in two gears. Great car. In that time, a pristine Hemi car or perfect 66 vette would run you about 10 grand. OH, those were the days. I wish I would have kept my cars, but hindsite is always 20/20. 60,000$ is ridiculous for any muscle car, except a Hemi Cuda or 1972 Ford Pantera (saw a few in the day) or Ford AC cobra with the 427 side oiler- Only saw one back in the day, blue with white stripes. Thanks for listening to this old man talk about my Glory day, RH DSD

    • @milesatwood8355
      @milesatwood8355 9 років тому

      AR Cuda's only came with 340 6 Pack. WTF are you talking about? 427 Hemi, no such thing, 426 dude. I did however see a 427 SOHC Mustang once at a body shop I was delivering parts to and was very surprised. A black Hemi Cuda at another shop. Those were the days. I bought a 1970 383 Cuda for $1750. a Road Runner for $1600. And my 67 Dart GT, my very first car, for $600. Like you say, I wish I would have kept them all. Hind sight is 20-20....

    • @DIOSpeedDemon
      @DIOSpeedDemon 9 років тому

      I meant 426, I had a blown 427 in my 68 SS Camaro. those were great cars back in the 60's to about 1971

    I remember back in the late 60s to early 70s, and Plymouth had what a lot of people wanted.......one "BIG" big block! Larger than GM and Ford. They dominated the speed market for the dragway. They did however had two major problems back then. 1 was that they had weak rear ends that gave the speed freak endless problems. 2. The bodies would rust bad. Most often in the front fender area. They changed all of that. 2015...........they won back dominance in both drag racing test and, handling on the test track!! The engineers did an enormous amount of work on design of such an incredible car.

    • @RickTheory
      @RickTheory 10 років тому +1

      Adrian B SRT is a trim level team developed internally at dodge. They branched out for like 2 years but only sold Vipers and no other cars aside from srt packages on other Chrysler vehicles. Now another corporate restructure brings them right back into the fold as an internal team at dodge. Either way they've always been an internal factory team producing the highest trim levels. Shelby on the other hand is an entirely separate outside entity from Ford which is why I made the Hennessy reference.

From Chevy Chevelles, Monte Carlo's, 442's, Road Runners, to CHALLENGER'S (Cuda being the real Pony Car), Torino's, Max Wedges, GTO's These are cars that were made for the Strip.

    While its not being currently made, the last gen GT500 came darn close on performance. Few less HP, but a lot less weight, and a few bucks cheaper. The Z/28 would destroy it, but that car sucks to drive on a regular basis. No interior, radio, or AC sucks. Its a track car only for the most part. While this car and the GT500 are very drivable. Will be interesting to see what SVT has cooking up for the new hipo Mustang.

    • @Justin_GFM
      @Justin_GFM 10 років тому

      Probably round 700-750hp. The thing with the Mustang is that it's one of those cars you wouldn't expect that power to come from lol. It's like the 1980s Mustang GT. It looked small but it had a V8. It's like putting a V12 in a Smart Car

    • @sexyitalian891
      @sexyitalian891 10 років тому

      Lieutenant McShruvvals I doubt they will keep upping the HP to ridiculous levels. They don't want to start a horsepower war, but dodge really needed this hellcat. All of a sudden, you got a 707hp car, with accessible performance to the everyday driver. Get it in the 8 speed automatic, which you can use as manual anyways, and with its launch control you will do pretty darn well. A more skilled driver will be .1 secs behind a new AWD GTR in the 1/4 mile.
      That is pretty amazing considering the car only costs 60k. Either way, if I bought this car I wouldn't track it, in fact, even if I wanted to I can't because there is no track here where I live, I'd buy it for the fact it has 707 hp, can do an 11.2 1/4 mile, which is .3 secs faster than the Viper, and can be used as a daily driver, it has a massive brakes package, sticky tires, and a le mans race car driver said it handles really nicely. Might not be the track machine the Z28 is, but I bet its still a blast to drive.
      And the average enthusiast who has NEVER driven a fast car wouldn't know wtf to do with the performance of a GT500, ZL1, Z28, or this Hellcat.

    700+ horsepower for 60k and a z28 which has only 500 horse for 70k and the zl1 for 50k which is more powerful. With dodge and ford you get more bang for your buck with the hellcat and the gt500 but with the hellcat you have a choice of manual or automatic and more power and more than likely a better 0 to 60 response good work mopar keep it up

  • @BlargeMan
    @BlargeMan 8 років тому

    Before you haters start saying shit like "oh the Mustang and Camaro will destroy this thing on the track" or "this thing is a fat boat and can't corner worth shit," try driving one. This thing is faster than either of those cars in the straight line, and this thing handles it's weight extremely well, the suspension and steering are tight and the car feels light, you don't notice the weight. And with the right suspension upgrades and the right tires, I'll bet you it will match the Camaro, if not the Mustang. This is a mix of a muscle car, a pony car, and a grand touring car. And you probably need the extra weight just to get traction with a 707 horsepower car. And finally, this thing is fully loaded, feels much more comfortable, looks better and more classic IMO, has a useable backseat and a big trunk, and can get 25 mpg in Eco mode, it's much more usable for everyday driving

    Everyone makes a big deal about 700hp like it's never been achieved before. We had cars making 2,500 horsepower in the 50's. hot rods, formula 1 cars, concept cars. The '65 Corvette had 600 horsepower stock. Most late 60's and early 70's Muscle cars were getting well over 500 horsepower stock and were lighter in weights than the newer muscle cars, which there's only two left. Plus you can put whatever engine you want to in a 20's 30's 40's, 50's, 60's, and early 70's car. and they were so much louder with a deeper tone. and had chrome on them, bumbers and trim. Try finding a new muscle car without air conditioning. I have all kinds of old car movies from the 50's 60's and 70's, with cars that have 1,000-2,500 horsepower. car power hit a plateau in the 70's. We are at the fastest cars will ever get. With gas prices as high as they are, and all the economy cars we have, we will be lucky if we see many muscle cars anymore. We are lucky to have the Challenger and Mustang the only two left.

    Specifically Hellcat costs $57,895 for manual, and $59,890 for automatic.
    Imo, very affordable (no, I can't afford it, but still). For example Audi RS5 (aka German muscle car), starts at $70K, and that is for the base package. So, yeah, Hellcat is a steal. :)

    707 hp is a hell of a lot of power to be controlling on a regular basis but you will get use to it i suppose. But 63k, might as well buy a house and if you aren't professionally racing it somehow, there is no need for it especially if you live in the city like I do.

    This is the best sounded V8 out there. American cars aren't just about speed that's what super cars are for, muscle cars have way more attitude. I don't car if you pull up in a GTR this car still says "give me your lunch money and tell your girlfriend to call me" better than anything foreign.

    Just watching all these people talk about how they'll rather have a Mustang over this is enough to make me buy the Hellcat. Every backwards hat wearing rich boy, mid-life crisis man, and their mother is gonna have a damn mustang. I'll rather go with what's rare and what I like instead. And I laugh at all these people screaming track times, power to weight ratio and the such, because I would never take this car to the track. Just cruising, and occasionally letting it loose when the police aren't around. But that's just me...

  • @cobramanphil

    Seems like a pretty cool car, but when are they going to really test it at the quarter mile and on a road course? All I've heard so far are people quoting figures from what Dodge/Chrysler has put out. I really do hope it does as well it says it will do..just don't want to hear crappy numbers come out when people actually test it from out under the Chrysler umbrella (marketing). Does anyone have a link to the National Hot Rod Association-certified quarter-mile times other what they stated about the Hellcat? Curious if they have ever tested the ZR1/ZL1/GT500/Viper or if this is some kind of handshake where they will say whatever they are paid to say.
    I read somewhere else the Hellcat was doing 12.18s at 118mph with drag radials at the Mile High Nationals. Not sure if the 9500 altitude can account for almost a 2 second loss in the quarter mile, but the trap speed should still say it all (then again it had drag radials so I am not to happy with the times still). Lets hope that they are not bullshitting us with the 11.2 second claims (that would be messed up).

    The new challenger sounds awesome but in my opinion nothing is better than a corvette. Sure the new challenger is a little better than the corvette when stock but corvettes can be tuned a lot better than challengers can. The Z06 wheel width is much better and it's about 1000 lbs lighter than the challenger. If you want to see a wicked fast corvette look up mark carlyle corvette and watch the first two videos. Please tell me if you can find a faster challenger anywhere. And the guy in the video talked about not being able to shift faster than an automatic transmission😂 if you look up the video I talked about just listen to how smooth his shifts are! I don't think that's any slower than an automatic transmission. But don't get me wrong the new challenger is sick and a big step in a muscle car world!

  • @6484373
    @6484373 10 років тому

    This is an amazing car. It would probably beat all the other muscle cars in a drag race. However, the z/28 would still own it on the track. But there is no question that it would kick the mustangs ass.

    They can't think of a car that comes within "even close" of the hellcat's performance? How about the new Corvette? It's less and would kick this thing's ass around a track. The brakes are subpar as well the tires and people seem to forget it weighs closer to 5,000 lbs than 4,000.

    A truly great job done by Chrysler!
    So who cares if the next Mustang or Camaro will beat it on a strip or track? The fact is that this is the fastest one yet. A 10.8 quarter mile isn't very fast compared to something you could build yourself with 700 horsepower for a fraction of the money, but it's crazy fast for something fresh off the showroom floor!
    There is more to cars than track times and horsepower. People need to respect other things than just specifications. I mean look at what an upgrade in quality this car is compared to the last Challenger! So why is everyone getting all butt-hurt!?
    P.S: I don't think that English fellow understood what any of the specifications he listed meant, but more or less remembering a script...
