- This is how I made my flounder gig and it seems to be strong. gigged many flounder with this one and I have had no problems. very easy to make and easy on the wallet as well.

Calcutta bamboo is best for this application, instead of the inferior and more common
Tonkan bamboo, which is pretty much just for decorating purposes. Also, that's a frog gig head you got attached to that tonkan bamboo shaft, not a flounder gig. It's significantly smaller and weaker. Not recommended once you start getting into medium and large size fish.
Yea I make my gaffs with Calcutta. The light duty gig works a lot better for walking the beaches like I do. I have gigged 23in flounder with it no problem at all.

Doesn’t seem like a big difference in weight until u walk a few miles down the beach with a gig in one hand, light in the other and a stringer of fish

I have been using the same one for about 3 years now. I put epoxy over the whole thing I’m sure that helped. I used the things I did because I already had them. Only thing I actually bought was the gig head for about $6 the rest I had

@@charliesfowllife2335 Academy, double prong gig for$10.99, single prong for $7.99 I wouldn't recommend single prong though. I've had my double prong Academy gig for about 10 years and it's been well used.
Huh, looks like my post got removed. Again, as I posted before, Academy has double prong gigs for $10.99. I've had my current Academy gig for over 10 years and it's been well used.
I have never seen them at academy. That’s where I got the head to my gig for $3. I have never seen one there with a pole already tho.
