Thank you guys for all the effort you put in to your channel. You truly are an inspiration to many of us home brewers by doing the hard yards! Cheers fellas, much appreciated, many thanks! 🇦🇺
Another cracking video guys, yet again you do my favourite type of brew (SMaSH) which I find fascinating. Now I'll away and try and source some of Barbe Rouge hops
I love the fact that you are trying hops from my country ! Yes barbe rouge is little strange in some ways but the delicate berry thing can be a great thing in so much beer styles, like dark or pale ! leo
Thanks, guys! Came across your tasting here while researching for my next Hazy IPA. I will use a bit of Chinook (60 min boil), but then mostly Barbe Rouge and Moutere for whirlpool and dry hopping in combination with the Mangrove's Jack M66. I'm really excited, this stuff is totally new to me.
Sounds great. Maybe with some great Nelson this would work too. Trying to find that combination of a couple hops that we don't really see in high volume. Cheers! -Mike
Merci for your test. I had seen this french hop in my homebrew store. I had thought of using it with triumph hop ... Sabro will be my binding hops for ... an exotic IPA
They will definitely work. I'd say try a small batch as a SMaSH and see what else you'd really like to pair it with because I think as a background hop this one could really blow away almost anything out there right now. Cheers! -Mike
Thanks for the video. Was a fair bit of brewer's hype over this hop when it came out last year. According to the hype, supposed to be 'Strawberry Fields Forever', ... maybe North America got the 'B' class hop lots. Anyway, bought a pound and paired it with Mosaic to push the berry aspect in a NEIPA. Suffice to say, it was a bit of a let down. Was expecting a super punchy berry hazy beer and it was a mild to moderate hop aroma and taste, even muting the Mosaic which can be intense in it's own right. Glad to see you guys pretty much agree (and I didn't just get a bad batch or mess up my brew), it's not an intense hop in any way but more of a minor supporting hop in a mix.
That's why we like doing these style vids. For us we get to taste a hop and decide if the published descriptors are real or inflated. It think the hop marketers know they can push the tropical descriptors for ever so they use others like berry. I am sure that at some level the best lots may indeed have the flavors as written but a lot happens post those test batches with the 'cream of the crop' hop lots and us getting some as homebrewers. We still have yet to us Mosaic in a way that generated the promised blueberry thing it has. Thanks for the comment. Cheers! -Mike
Love your down home ,real attitudes. Always enjoy the channel.
As we've always said; "We're just two dudes.". Thanks for the support! Cheers! -Mike

Sounds like some interesting combos. Glad you took something away from our vid. Cheers! -Mike
I did an IPA in the fall with Barbe and Southern Passion, turned out really tasty.

Thank you for explaining and going into detail about when you add your hops and why. It has helped me a lot in my own brewing!
Glad to help. Thanks for the support. Cheers! -Mike

I just picked up some French Elixir, and French Fuggles hops. The French Fuggles are phenomenal! Haven't tried Elixir yet. Thanks for the video.
Very interesting. I'll have to get John to track me down some French Fuggles. hmm.... Cheers! -Mike
I'm brewing a Saison sometime soon with barbe rouge, only hot side additions. Big whirpool. Wonder how that will turn out

Mmmm avocado, thanks John and Mike!
Yeah, I don't know there was just something intangible in this one and I couldn't get my mind away from avocado once it popped in there. Cheers! -Mike
