The Soviet SU-100Y was one of the first premiums I got for War Thunder, and it has not aged very well. Its only redeeming quality is the massive 130mm naval cannon that allows it to annihilate just about anything.

hey spookston, you should try the silly little ikv 72, it has neutral traverse, 20 degrees of gun depression, 270g of he filler, and is as fast as a bt5, overall very fun low tier TD

I up tier that to 7.0, was very fun, shot over hills like artillery and killed a few guys.
The IKV72 unirionically is Bbbbusted. It’s still my most kills in my Sweden tree. High pen and an absurd amount of explosive filler for its BR, love that little gremlin tank

The funny thing about the su-100y is that the steering is actually really responsive for a land yacht, and the gun handling isn't bad either. The sloped 75mm plates can let you down at tha br, but the gun is surprisingly consistent for something you would think would suffer greatly from volumetric.
I also think people take longer than normal to identify it because it looks like a shed.

I am a filthy dirty no good naval main, so I know that the main selling point of SAP ammunition is that when it hits armor it can't defeat, it won't just shatter off it like AP, it will instead act like a rehular HE shell. This is why it's the most widely used shell type in naval
No. SAP is just HE-F with thicker walls and delay of fuse. Or thinner walled APHE
@@worldoftancraft It is definately not HE with thicker walls, as the fuse has a delay, like AP shells. It is not a direct impact fuse like HE shells.
SAP is closer in funtion to APHE, but due to the increased HE filler compared to APHE, the secondary effect of detonation upon unsuccessful penetration is much more noticable
@@jackgamer6307 there are HE with delayed fuse. If you aren't much into research, I cannot help you. Even thin walled HE from a 6 inch gun can perforate a thin armour.

What's more unique about the SU-100Y is the 130mm gun. It was used on various WWII era Destroyer classes.
The list includes: The Tashkent, Gnevny, Storozhevoy, Opytny (A one-off experiment), Ognevoy, and Skory.
Plus Indonesia, Poland, Egypt, and China.
Taškent, Gnevnyj, Storoževoj, Skoryj. We aren't English, bruv, and I know that it's very hard for you to notice untill those aliens are French or Spanish

yea, its quite literally just a naval gun, and is found on all but 5 soviet destroyers in War Thunder (excluding the Regele Ferdinand class because its a romanian ship).
But if your being pedantic, the SU-100Ys gun was a coastal battery gun until it went onto the SU-100Y.
The tank was also in combat near Moscow, Kubinka and maybe even saw action at Kursk (it was assigned to a unit that was a part of Kursk).

It's one of my favorite tanks, and also the first premium i bought. The singular thought that was going through my mind when i bought it was just, "Man, I want a big gun, wow, that's a big gun"
Pretty much, and in term of gun it is great.
It's just this tank sacrifices way too much for that gun, especially since the stuff that such a cannon would be amazing at (hull down camping, shoot and scoot) is exactly what this tank sucks ass because it is Soviet.
Like lmao enjoy being unable to engage anyone on even the slightest elevation because you need to drive up that barn of a chassis to even depress the gun enough, and then be unable to reverse as inevitability that giant shell disappears into volumetric plates and the enemy can get 5/6 shots off by the time you can get one back.
at one time this was the second largest cannon in the game (after the 152s) because it was added before the FV 4005 and the Brummbar.
Pre-nerf, at 5.3 with the ISU-122S's old 17.5 second reload it was an absolute beast.

So fun fact, if you zoom in your third person camera, you can hear enemy engines WAY louder and it silences your own engine for some reason now.

My wife and I celebrated the birth of our first child six weeks ago and it has become a daily ritual to prep his bottle, settle into the couch and watch the newest Spookston video together while he guzzles his bottle. Today is my last day of parental leave and I’m going to missing being able to watch these as they come out. Thank you for making the sleepless nights a little better by giving us something to watch together first thing in the morning.

You should definally play the Ikv 72, even though its older brother greatly outshines it, you can be a huge menace using its APHE. It has a decent explosion filler to one shot tanks.
I actually got a 75% discount for this a few weeks back, so I decided to buy it, and ngl, despite its horrible reload, that gun slaps so nicely. Its pretty much a guaranteed one-shot on everything at that BR.

A friend of mine got this behemoth less than two months ago. He currently has 754 kills and 237 deaths, and our friend group unironically think he might be the best SU-100Y player in the world. Cherry on top? He plays on console.
Spookston you should try the ikv91 it has lots of explosive filler, 400mm of pen at all ranges, a laser rangefinder, pretty fast and silent, and good turret traverse
