Man....the whole disclaimer thing drives me nuts. People like you are better than most "real" doctors i've dealt with in my life. Not only do most doctors not know what the problem is, they simply want to prescribe you drugs and get you out of the office for the next patient....they can't even pretend to care about the patients. We're just dollar signs for them. G-d bless you man, thank you for what you do.
This past week I’ve been tortured with this. The doctors said I’m perfectly healthy and I couldn’t believe it. I don’t think I’m anxious but I am I guess. It’s getting easier today. Thank you for helping
This happened to me once 10 years ago for like 2 months but it wasn’t that bad. I’m dealing with it now severely. It’s impacting sleep and now even my dreams are starting to reflect it
I went to the hospital a few days ago because I went into a full on panic mode from a weird pain in my chest. Never had anxiety before. Did 4 EKGs, 2 blood tests, multiple chest X-Rays and they said I am perfectly normal. Now I am back to normal for the most part but it was definitely a weird phase that I never thought I'd experience. You all can beat it! Just convince yourself you are normal and stop freaking out. Live your life the best you can and keep fighting.
Modern ECG's used by malpractitioner doctors are a scam. They never tell you what your problems are and neither will this clown in the video. "Uh it's just anxiety". Anxiety is caused by high DHEA and high cortisol, high t4 and low TSH. My air hunger and high resting heart rate was caused by overactive thyroid and adrenals.
How are you feeling now? Im having same problem last 3 months. I hate it i cant do anything im allways yawning to get that deep breath. Its so hard my life just stopped i cant even talk. Or look at the phone for long time.
@@MdMunna-oi4op Please look into a therapist who specializes in somatic experiencing. You sound just like me! Also look up strong sistas podcast where they talk about eating pro metabolically. This is helping me to understand what I’ve dealt with for many years. Hope this helps! ❤️
Anxiety. It’s all in your head. The usual doctor’s excuse for physical- feeling ailments. HOWEVER, my friend, you have made me see the light. Just sitting here listening to one or two of your videos and practicing your exercise, I am breathing easier. In the beginning, it’s harder than one would think. Because over the last many months, I’ve gotten used to gasping air through my mouth. At the same time, It didn’t make any sense to me that while I was sleeping I wasn’t suffering from this, but the minute I wake up in the morning, suddenly, I can’t breathe? You’re a genius my friend. There are so many people that make fun of UA-camrs, who are not physicians, touting their remedies. But so many times. One does not have to be a physician to use a little common sense, observe, disseminate one’s own experience and use a little common sense. Many Doctors don’t believe in anecdotal evidence, and yet it’s anecdotal evidence that most people will find most helpful. This is not to say that one should not at least get a chest x-ray, and make sure one is not suffering from pneumonia are a hole in the heart or something like that, but most of the time, especially in these crazy days in which we live, anxiety is a real problem And BTW. no one likes to admit that they are anxious. That’s a big one to admit especially to oneself. ❤
I was dealing with this for a few weeks. I went to the ER. Nothing was wrong with me. They said it was anxiety but I did not believe them. It turns out, my pec muscles were very tight on the inside area which is pretty impossible to stretch and my diaphragm was tight and I was breathing up into my chest instead of down into my diaphragm. So I massaged out the pecs and stretched out the diaphragm and had somebody use a massage gun on my back and wala, I'm cured. I'll also add that I have done yoga for years so i am quite flexible and spent lots of times stretching my chest, ribs and back...but I guess I never breathed properly into my diaphragm and didn't realize I had tightness that only a massage could fix. Never believe that it is just anxiety. I almost believe it myself. Its not. The breathing problem came first, and then you became anxious about it because anyone who can't breathe well would be anxious about it.
@@travisn346 just focus on using it while breathing, try to get as much range of motion as possible without discomfortt. people like to make it seem like it some magical or complex unlocking.
@@chrishayes5755 yea I agree it's not magical or spiritual it's mechanical. For me, it's no longer automatic or subconscious - like the original poster said.
I have anxiety but not excessive and I’m lacking sleep due to 4 kids but i definitely feel I have this bc my back is tight. So tight it won’t even crack. Think I’m gonna head back to the chiropractor.
@@MdMunna-oi4op thankfully it’s been better, someone told me that your lungs are like a balloon 🎈 and filling that balloon way too much it’s like your body doesn’t need that so it goes into a cycle 🔁 of going for more air you don’t need to function, so I guess I rationalized that my body is okay with shorter breaths so occasionally I won’t take deep breaths and have days without it if I’m lucky. But I’m struggling with breathing OCD, manual breathing and can’t stop thinking about my breathing feeling like I’ll stop breathing or forget how to breathe because I noticed it too much and hard to stop noticing it or controlling it
Im absolutely gob smacked. I’m so so so glad I found this video! I’ve been struggling with this for 8 years and no one could tell me what was wrong just to do more deep breathing! Doctors, therapists, psychologists no one ever suggested this was what was happening but it’s exactly what I experience. I’m even on anxiety medication and it never made a difference with my breathing. It has massively impacted my life and relationships and has caused me to leave work multiple times. Thank you so much for making this video it finally made me feel seen after all this time ❤ definitely going to try those exercises.
Pal you are a lifesaver I’ve been suffering with it for years and didn’t really have a name for it but this week I’ve been really bad. I knew what to do with desire to just knowing what it is exactly. I’m mostly get it when blocked nose, I know it’s silly, but it also feels like your world is ending even the tone of your voice helps
sometimes getting nose like blocked? and starting to breath through mouth ? liuke induce panic and it get worse worse worse while concentrating on breath?
I have been struggling with anxiety, and for the past month I have been feeling this way. I went to the doctors and they said I was fine. Lungs were fine, heart was fine. But with this breathing thing, also makes me feeling like I’m dying, which makes me feel depressed. Thanks for giving this advice. I appreciate this video ❤
Mr. Cooper thank you so much! I’ve been struggling with chronic stress and you really made things clear for me! You & your passion for this work is awesome, and your phenomenal kitchen demonstration was right there with the latter 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
thank you for this!!!! been facing this on and off for two and a half months and has been especially bad this week. so grateful to learn a term for this and so grateful theres a way to help stop it. ive been so tired because ive been trying to manually breathe. thank you so so much
I here you! But there really are solutions out there. Gentle restrictive breathing exercises to help your body go back to a normal level of CO2 tolerance combined with work to reduce the threat response to anxiety (so you stop over-breathing) and you gradually go back to normal. It can take some time... but better to move in the right direction than the wrong one.
Why is this so relatable what u said in the beginning is exactly what I’m going through I’m too focused on my breathing and feel like if I’m not or I if I don’t force myself to breathe I’ll just stop and it feels so suffocating feels like I’m dying Ig this is air hunger and I literally don’t know how to get rid of it

Hi! I’m really glad that I found this video. I had exactly the same issue and I was feeling like I can’t get enough air all the time. It was like I was always focusing on my breathing, and when I stop focusing on it, I can’t breathe automatically. I had this issue for 2 years and half and everyday, it was so painful. This video helped me a lot to realize that it was just anxiety. Currently I also have depersonalization/derealization as well, but my doctor thinks that I have a schizophrenia.(because I told him I have depersonalization ) I think I have many issues related to anxiety but my doctor never knows. Thank you so much for making this video, you helped me a lot! *sorry for my bad English, my native language isn’t English🙏 From Japan 🇯🇵
Thank you so much! As a 13 year old that was recently diagnosed with an upper respitory infection , my shortness of breathing has slowly taken over. The doctor told me I was healthy, but I've become so stressed and anxious about my breathing I couldn't resist the urge to breathe through my mouth just to feel a satisfying breath. Most of the time it's not satisfying but I always get in a few. However, I was told by this video and the nurse that I should just try and breathe in normally and I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it again. Though my breathing still gets uncomfortable, it’s certainly better than when I first starting experiencing it.
@Lyxxl123 I'm doing better now surprisingly than I was 4 months ago. One thing I wanna tell you tho us to not worry, don't be anxious cause it's the cause of most problems. I spent almost 3 months worrying about something I never had and I wanna tell you not to worry as your body is designed to handle every problem in your body even if it doesn't feel like it ;)
@@Lyxxl123 yeah. At times I breathe without even thinking about it because your body doesn’t care if you focus on it or not, your body will do the breathing for you. Assuming you went to sleep last night, you were breathing automatically in your sleep and that means your body is functioning well.
Thank you for the videos on helping with this problem. I‘ve been focusing and being conscious on my breathing for several weeks now. Last Saturday I went to a festival and haven’t been having this feeling for several hours and the day after it wasn’t as present. The past days it became worse and I found your videos. So in conclusion, the combination of breathing exercises and breaking the anxiety cycle will help me cure this feeling of always focusing on my breathing?
I've had this problem for 2 years now and sometimes I've felt really hopeless. it started all of a sudden, sometimes it gets better and sometimes it gets worse. I have noticed that the feeling of hunger worsens my ailments considerably. I feel intense anxiety when breathing comes to mind. sometimes it goes out of my mind and comes back after a while. just like a vicious circle. and this terrible affliction limits my whole life. I have also been to the doctor and they only gave me breathing exercises. which do not help me at all. life is a pain when you have to avoid things however, I still live in hope that maybe this will get easier someday and I do have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and have had panic attacks as a teenager i thanks for this video! God Bless you🙏🏻
Bro going through the same thing it’s terrible and people just say try not to think about it but how would you forget about it when it’s a problem and breathing is what keeps you alive lol.. it’s hard it’s made my relationships with people bad made working harder and everything I pray everyone gets this figured out
hi, I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced something similar :( I'm not completely cured yet, but at least I'm feeling a little better. the best advice I can give is that. eat regularly. and don't let your blood sugar drop too much. because it increases anxiety, at least for you, and increases the risk get a panic attack if you're hungry because then a person can't think rationally about things. don't stress about breathing. it feels really shocking when you start thinking about it too much. and it feels like you have to do it yourself so it's not automatic. but it's automatic. I've started to use breathing exercises and they really help a lot. one exercise goes like this. breathe in calmly and count at the same rate 4 blow through the mouth with the fourth out and count 6 when you blow air out through the mouth. repeat it maybe 3 times. it's really effective and a good way relieves anxiety, the thought of breathing is partly due to focusing too much on it and may be breathing shakily, and it causes too much carbon dioxide. and it causes you to start observing your breathing. but remember you won't die from it even if it feels like it. if I have survived for 2 years with trouble, you can too. all the best to you and strength. we are not alone! try that breathing exercise when you feel really bad. and let me know if it helped you.
yes we will get better from this this trouble will not be with us forever. it is partially. probably anxiety and subconscious stress. and for some reason our brain breaks it down when we breathe. and it is very common. we will beat this shit together. and we show that we are stronger than that disgusting trouble. God bless you ❤️ everything will get better with time for sure

@@MdMunna-oi4opHi how you doing now. I'd been doing the exercises and they really helped. At some point after a couple or three months I suddenly realised it wasn't there. Hope you're feeling better.
It affects your self-esteem, and this anxiety probably does make it worse. But I also have it bad when I lie down to sleep; this tells me that it isn't all in my head. It could be intermittent asthma because it is not every day I suffer from it. Ive been months without it bothering me. Ive had all the checks at the doctors, and no problems were found. I've recently been eating better in the last few months; I've never been healthier infact than I am now, and yet my breathing has gotten worse. So, It could be connected in some way to food or my new eating habits. It could be something as simple as not eating enough in the day, low blood sugar, low electrolytes, the list goes on.. and it's frustrating not knowing what it is :(
Thats crazy, I have been struggling with a big shortness of breath these past 3 months. This all started once I went 26 hours without eating. I fasted for one day and on the 26th hour I started to realize I couldn't breathe at all and my hands started to shake. So, I broke my fast on the 26 hour and felt slightly better. But ever since then I have been having the same sensation running through my body. I still can't breathe at all, and I am suffering. My doctors said they don't think this has to do with fasting but who knows. I just want to breathe again. :(
I have focused on your breathing technique since yesterday, and amazingly, it hasn’t reoccurred. I sometimes get a natural yawn, and when I do it, I feel gratified I guess when it comes natural, I can do it as long as I am not forcing it

Very helpful. I had read a book in the past called hypervention syndrome which was very helpful, however there was no real explanation of the science, the pH side of the issue...this fir me takes the fear factor out of my air hunger, over breathing, breath holding etc and helped me address the anxiety and panic associated with air hunger. Thank you very much for this and your other videos.
Thanks Sir Howard. Based on your experience or experiences from your patients. How long (after starting the exercise) will the air hunger feeling be totally gone? I started to do this breathing exercise few months ago and it became better but not totally off. There are even days that it's like I am backed to zero.
Ive been able to deal with almost every symptom of anxiety but this one... is 24/7 even when im (at least i think) completely relaxed, its especially prevalent when im around people so i know its somewhat social anxiety based to. I've gotten my anxiety to a level where its not really a factor anymore so I was confused why i still have air hunger issues but your explanation finally solved it. Gonna do the exercises and hopefully they work well considering my issue isnt really anxiety fuelled anymore.
I've been struggling with this for SO long now man and my dr has done multiple tests on me only to keep telling me it's anxiety. He's never tested my CO2 levels and now I wonder what level it's been at all this time. Would you recommend walking/jogging daily to help raise CO2 levels & retrain my breathing?
Ive been fighting with this for 15 years now, these videos might be a big help for me.. Its just sad it has been so long time.. All my 20’s ive been feeling this airhunger.. But im really chocked and feel better to know im not alone with this. Do you know if this has damaged me over these years? But it sounds like its not dangerous to be in this only unpleasant :) Thank you for this video sir!
I don't believe that this issue causes any long term physiological damage it just feels really unpleasant. I'm so pleased that you found this video though. Let us know how you get on... and remember that you are NOT alone.
@@anxietybeatinghacks Thank you for your answer sir. I have been practicing this now since i found the video and i must say i feel much better! I want to exercise but exercising causes the anxiety air hunger and tightening of throat (globus) any advice for this as I know exercise is good for anxiety
Thank you very much for the work you have Done for us. I have a question tho.. I’ve been following your advices and it got better for me. But still i have this sort of addiction for deep breaths.. even tho i breathe only through my nose, my mind is constantly making me take a bit deeper breaths like every 5 minutes, especially when im stressed. And the question is should i take them or not?
Do you best to avoid taking them if possible BUT also don't worry freak our if you do take the one as well (the anxiety then causes over breathing). Your fixation and desire to take them (as you continue to practice the exercises) is understandable as you have likely got into a habit of over breathing and it can take some time to reset the habitual patterns.

I have been going through these air hunger symptoms since I was 20 years old. (on & off for years) I still have never found a way to cope with it. The off times when I am normal get me thru these bad times.
I have this for years but that dosnt mean it will be the same for you, just be positive and it will get better over time but i maybe have some lifestyle tips for you that make it easier to live with it. 1. quit caffeine, all types of coffee energy drinks etc. 2. reduce sugar intake to an absolute minimum. 3. avoid eating to much dairy products. 4. drink aloot of water and calming tea without caffeine atleast 3l a day. this 4 steps didnt cure it for me but its alooot easier to live with it, and never forget its not dangerous for your body! i can hold my breath for like 2 minutes, before i had this breathing problem i could hold it for like 45seconds max 😆 dont ask me why but its true...

I have to yawn to get breath in. I feel like the trachea or the bronchioles are super tight and when I yawn it expands giving me relief. Breathing through my nose isn’t easy either but I think the worst part of it is not getting what I breathed in the lungs. It’s really frustrating

Is trying to resist the urge to take deep breaths and just taking them less frequently a viable option to tackle the physiological mechanism of air hunger (the increased sensitivity to CO2 levels)?
Not sure of the science behind it but I have found it useful. It's horrible because you feel like you're suffocating but I have gone from having to take a deep breath every few minutes to now 10 minutes of longer.
Hi Paul, great question. My journey figuring this stuff out is as follows. When I struggled terribly with it everyone kept telling me to "take deep breaths" etc. However, when I was getting worse than ever I decided (almost as an attempt to "logic" my way out of the issue to do the following: "could I take gentle normal breaths for as long as I could manage 10-15 minutes etc and then if I hadn't collapsed or died (even if I felt like I wasn't getting enough air) surely that would convince me with logic that I was in fact getting enough). After this period of gentle (what felt like restrictive) breathing I noticed 2 things: 1) I was still alive... so surely I was getting enough oxygen to live and 2) The intensity of the air hunger was slightly reduced... I felt slightly better. So I practiced more restrictive breathing and began to notice some improvements. It was this that lead me to research more about the mechanisms of breathing... and to read about the BUTEYKO breathing method and the science behind it. However, restrictive breathing exercises by themselves can help... BUT if you are highly anxious about the unpleasant breathing sensations (which can be understandable) to such degree that the sensations of air hunger are causing you anxiety or panic then chances are you the panic is causing overbreathing which can counteract the positive benefits of the restrictive breathing exercises. So I now combine both a psychological approach (to reduce the threat response to those unpleasant feelings and thoughts around air hunger) with the correct breathing retraining exercises. Hope this helps to clarify.
I know this is all in my head, I’ve had symptoms from chest pain that went away after reassurance, I woke up with morning nausea and heart palpitations, I went to the doctor he said heartbeat sounded fine, lungs sounded healthy, heart rate was healthy. So really there is only 1 reason all this is happening. All I had now is this air hunger, which I really only feel when I’m consciously thinking about my breathing, if I’m distracted my breathing is something I forget about, and I also feel air hunger when I first wake up in the morning and feel the urge to take deeper breaths.
Well it's not really all in your head in the sense that IF you have been overbreathing for a little while due to anxiety then your body can become hypersensitive to CO2 which the exercises outlined on my other video on air hunger will help deal with. Good luck.
Brilliant video, thank you for your help! I also thought it was just me who had this issue. I have had this for years and it’s bad at the moment and your video and breathing technique has helped me to understand this now. Thank you! I also watched your first video which has helped me so much 😊
Hi Howard I'm quite interested in your programme. Been suffering from this for over 4 years now. Absolutely unbearable at times. So, the breathing exercise you teach is it Buteyko. I also tried buteyko but it didn't fully work. Please let me know. Regards
Thank you so much for posting this .,. If I could pay you I woujd bc you deserve it. I honestly hope you make plenty bc this is a huge problem that’s hidden.
this is the worst problem because this is something so part of us. like if I have anxiety about getting sick I can at least eventually distract myself. my breathing literally is what I do to live so its probably one of the hardest symptoms for me. I remember when i was a kid and my friends would joke "manual breathing" and I'd be like "wow u asshole" and forget about manual breathing after literally 5 seconds but my adult self is so hyperaware now its crazy
How much of this is air hunger WITH somatic breathing OCD? I’ve been on both air hunger and somatic breathing OCD Reddit, and both sub groups often report the same things.
I believe that one of the reasons this can happen is that often people have anxiety in the evenings due to less distractions and more time "in their head". Anxiety increases respiration which increases CO2.
First of all I would like to thank god through this hard time cuz not breathing right and gasping for air was my hell I had to keep my faith that I was going to get out of this after 5 hellish days and also thanks to these breathing techniques they helped allot and if you can get some sleeping pills to knock out cuz this can drive you mad keep your faith and you to will start breathing .
I have been doing the excersize from your first video about 3 weeks now, no real sings of improvment yet. How long will it usually takes? And how can I get rid of thinking about breathing and giving my body the red flag labels? Just saying "this is not a threath"?
Firstly, well done for starting to do the exercises and getting stuck in. What was your control pause? How long are you doing the breath holds for? Do you find at the end of the exercise you have mild but tolerable air hunger or are you gasping for air? All of these things will help ascertain if you are doing the exercises in the best way. Re: how to stop the body and mind treating these sensations as a threat. This is not the easiest question to answer in a youtube comment reply but it often an experiential learning that emerges from my clinical work. Essentially its challenging the mental images and internal dialogue and sensations to examine if these things "in and of themselves" pose a threat... it's more about insight about the nature of thinking rather than trying to get rid of this thinking. I go into all this fully on my live free from air hunger programme.
Sometimes one of the reasons why we may not see improvements with JUST the breathing exercises by themselves is if you have so much anxiety around it you are cancelling out any exercise progress from overbreathing.
@@anxietybeatinghacks My control pause was 10 when I started and the breath hold then 5. Then I didnt' feel air hunger almost at all so I quite quickly rose the time to 7 and then 8. In that breath hold time it varies very much from easy to gasping air. So have kept the number the same. I did the control pause test just and now it was 15, so I quesa there has been some improvment tough it does not feel so in the daily life. Outside the excersize I try to breath trough my nose and try to resist the gaspingbif possible. Btw thank you so much to naming the problem! I've had it for long!
@@anxietybeatinghacks I got the problem during a long period of stressfull time and anxiety. No I have been able to leave it mostly behind and I don't feel stressed or anxius anymore. The only problem left, is the air hunger. I looked at the link to the online course, but it went to a page informing the course had already strated on February.
Great that you seem to have increased your CP to 15 from 10... that is good progress and I would say keep going. Above 20 and I find that many people notice a significant improvement in symptoms.
Is it ok if i do these exercises 3 times a day? cuz there is no enough time for me due to working hours and if i do during working hours people will think i am weird
I'm dealing with air hunger really bad right now. Over time my body has over compensated by using my neck muscles to try and "breathe in" even more, which in turn makes my head feel chronically tight from the tight neck. I feel so defeated and depleted.
Yes I understand how this feels... and sometimes when you start straining to breathe more and creating tension it causes more stress related symptoms like tightness in head and neck etc. Starting to challenge the anxiety around it AND doing gentle restrictive breathing exercises (in the first video I did on air hunger) can begin to deal with this. Good luck!
Sometimes it can be iron deficiency. I had extreme air hunger and shortness of breath and nothing helped, i found out from a blood test that i had iron deficiency anaemia which had caused it.
The bicarbonate buffer system (which is what this video covers) explains why low CO2 levels can be maintained in those with chronic hyperventilation, but it doesn't explain why people with low CO2 have more sensitivity to the same amount of buildup/increase in CO2 (relative to their baseline). In other words, this video doesn't explain why people with air hunger have lower Control Pauses. I am guessing the sensitivity to CO2 buildup has to do with with details of how chemoreceptors work and how their sensitivity changes, but I haven't been able to find anything about this. Do you happen to know a good reference for this?
My dad had passed over a year ago all started with copd and ever since I’ve been fixated on my breathing my bp shot up and never fully went back down my hands shake and they never use to as well as a fast pulse in abdomen I can’t stop focusing on went to urgent care they did lung test ekg and was all good I just can’t get over this hump I don’t wanna be on medication.

OK but now how do I fix the problem? I didn't get an answer on exactly how to train my brain 🙃 4 years of air hunger 247 never goes away doctors can't figure me out I hope it's all in my head and is curable but I need videos to help re train my brain I think about it 247 no matter what
So firstly, it is curable, but I totally understand how terrible it can seem and how the hyperfixation on it causes an anxiety loop. I have a bunch of free content on this channel around beating anxiety and I go into more detail about air hunger on a free presentation I do here: airhunger.org For people struggling to implement these ideas I also have a new online programme to cover this in more detail and do 1-on-1 work helping people. www.rapidchange.works
Omperazol 20 mg per day in the morning emepty stomach. Almost works instantly, this drug is a miracle drug but take with caution don’t take more then 3 months.
Sometimes I can somehow sense that I am approaching a yawn that is going to fulfill my need for air. Usually it's when the air hunger has built up for a little while and I just know that the next yawn is going to give me relief if I let it happen. My question is: What would you recommend for these moments? Not letting myself yawn and instead breathing shallowly on purpose?
How are you? Do you still feel like yawning or have you fully recovered? i also have that feeling where in i have to yawn at times, and sometimes the yawn isnt as "Satisfying", Does that sound familiar to you?

Too much talk on the internet about How to breath correctly and " breathing techniques ".. all of the talk about breathing has made people too conscious about breathing. One will never breath more correctly than when they're not trying to control it, or when they're not thinking about it.
I agree. And lots of focus on giving people “breathing exercises” gets people too focused on breathing and can sometimes therefore create over-breathing
I'm thinking of resorting to anxiety meds because this is torture and meditation and mindfullness and all those things aren’t working. I’ve been suffering for over two weeks now.
The problem with me is I do have lung, sinus and other problems preventing me breathing normal when I sleep. So I end up waking feeling like I'm having a panic attack or heart attack. Once I get up and mentally slow my breathing it goes away. How do I stop this from happening? I can't lay on my back to sleep because my sinus and back of my throat collapses in and wakes me in a fright. Then if I lay on my side I sleep better, but with more back pain because I have a bad back too. But finally I fall asleep, but wake up feeling a deep sense of dread, breathing only through my mouth (not fast or anything) and the only thing I can do is get up and walk it off.
i have been suffering from this 24/7..Im not restless at all.Can sit relax or even stand straight for a longer period.Even bad habits of eye twitching loops again.Im tired of it all.Cnt control my eye twiching n soon causes air hunger

I think sensorimotor OCD (or the hyper fixation and checking your internal breathing mechanisms) is not necessarily the same as air hunger (the symptom of feeling that you can't breathe). Air hunger can be caused by being hypersensitive to CO2... however, there is something interesting you are pointing at... because if you feel that you are suffocating (air hunger) you get anxious and likely over breathe which keeps you hypersensitive to CO2. The other thing that happens if you have felt air hunger a lot is you fear it... and the brain is very good and flagging up and paying attention to things that it thinks are a threat. IF someone has got into a habit of breathing where they feel that breathing is problematic this can result in them obsessively internally checking their breathing. There are also some people who despite sorting out the CO2 tolerance still experience air hunger and in these cases it's likely a perceptual issue caused by OCD hyper fixation of checking the breathing sensations.
Sir, I struggle with breathing issue, I usually to take a pause after every exhale but the issue is that now I can't take a natural breath at all, I need to take a manual breath all the times hence it makes me unable to concentrate on the things around me
The video is a bit confusing, Howard, because if the tank of water represents blood pH, then the level should go up not down - since pH increases, rather than decreases, on excretion of carbon dioxide.
@@Rebecca-xr8by Yes indeed. Just checking as often people get confused as lower - stronger etc. And if we were being very literal I should have the marked the water line visibly clear that in this metaphor the strength of acid is dropping (like the line) (I can appreciate the confusion). However, I wanted deliberately to stay clear of getting too technical on this video and to simply help people understand the metaphor of your body adapting to excess CO2 loss by implementing emergency balancing processes that get almost "STUCK in place" which perpetuates the incessant urge to breathe.
@@Rebecca-xr8by YES the whole Bicarbonate Buffer system is a bit of nightmare to understand and gets quite complex quite quickly. @anxietybeatinghacks I have been suffering from this for months now, including other anxiety like symptoms on top of it all. But the SOB came first and I didn’t know what was going on. I do suffer from asthma and I heard this feeling can be worst if you suffer from asthma, my question to you is, am I suppose to be getting lightheaded a little while doing this breathing exercise throughout the day?
This is really awful . Previously, I used to exercise without any issue. I could run on the treadmill for 2 hours no problem. Then, one day about 3 years ago, I was moving and was bringing a t.v. up to the 3rd floor of a house. Once I got to the 3rd floor, I was overwhelmed by the stress climbing up 3 flights of stairs with a t.v. put on my body, and I began to hyperfocus on my breathing, which led to a severe panic attack where I thought I was going to have a heart attack. 3 years later, i still struggle with this. Basically ANY from of intense exercise causes me to start hyperfocusing on my breathing. I will try to breathe into my lungs and even when they reach their full capacity and I can't fill them any more, it somehow still doesn't feel like I'm breathing in enough air. It's completely maddening as I go from trying to push my lungs to breath in more than they can, to exhaling and then being too afraid to breathe back in. Since the very first time i experience this panic attack I haven't been able to shake it off since. I hope that by watching this video that I can finally get the answers I need and how to overcome this. I do believe this is all tied into a bigger issue of trauma (I developed this during a time in my life when a lot of traumatic experiences were happening).
I have this for 20 years now nonstop but that dosnt mean it will be the same for you, just try to stay positive and it will get better over time or you learn to live with it like i did and i still workout etc.. I maybe have some lifestyle tips for you that make it easier to live with it. 1. quit caffeine, all types of coffee energy drinks etc. 2. reduce sugar intake to an absolute minimum. 3. avoid eating to much dairy products. 4. drink aloot of water and calming tea without caffeine atleast 3l a day. this 4 steps didnt cure it for me but its alooot easier to live with it, and never forget its not dangerous for your body! i can hold my breath for like 2 minutes, before i had this breathing problem i could hold it for like 45seconds max 😆 dont ask me why but its true... and i also developed this because of a very traumatic childhood and it turned into a general anxiety disorder. stay strong man ❤️
Has your breathing improved? If so, how long did this struggle last for you? I’ve been struggling with this since I contracted covid 3 months ago. Do you have any advice? Please help me.
Its like everything is anxiety with doctors, fnd its anxiety..air hunger dyspnea its anxiety, the doctor said she would refer me to physiotherapy to meet but then only sent me a link off google with anxiety breathing exercises,
intresting, after all 6 books about breathing, 3 seminars, hunderests articles and maybe thousands of videos now i learned that body tries to balance acidicy when its too alkaline, so its goes death circiut. body cannot help itself when its acidic, force us to breath (positively- take air, or negatively- give co2 full air) body balance itself when its alkaline (basic), and say breath its too acidic right after in seconds damn
YEP... most people don't realise that this breathing issue is actually more to do with your body balancing pH levels than lung issues. You could think of it as Anxiety induced Respiratory Alkalosis.
@@anxietybeatinghacks yep yep as we are not actually eat 3 times in a day to survive (since we can live up to 30 days without eating, and we need only couple hundred calories) we dont breath to survive. we breath basicly refreshing ph levels and also to feel beter + system automatized breating,
Well... did this help? Did this help you understand how it's NOT just ANXIETY? BUT how treating the anxiety around it can also help?
Man....the whole disclaimer thing drives me nuts. People like you are better than most "real" doctors i've dealt with in my life.
No it’s not all in your head it can be allergies & hormones too.
How did you release the diaphragm? Did you yawn all the time?

hi, I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced something similar :( I'm not completely cured yet, but at least I'm feeling a little better. the best advice I can give is that. eat regularly. and don't let your blood sugar drop too much. because it increases anxiety, at least for you, and increases the risk get a panic attack if you're hungry because then a person can't think rationally about things. don't stress about breathing. it feels really shocking when you start thinking about it too much. and it feels like you have to do it yourself so it's not automatic. but it's automatic.

Do you know if this has damaged me over these years? I felt completly horrible many times and thought i was about to die, now i think sometimes that maybe ive been damaged after this?
I’ve been dealing with this for 7 months, ever since I started a new job. Sometimes I just break down crying in frustration and panic.
I been dealing with it for 5 months straight it’s frustrating I cry everyday

I can totally relate
Anxiety, shortness of breath
Not being able to breath deep enough
I thought it may be related to my allergy
I believe it is due to anxiety
Always conscious of breath

Hey brother
Thanks for replying
Actually I went like about 2 weeks ago visit the doc, just make sure
The actual procedure is due next month though
What I've noticed this week or so
My issue is more related to allergy and nose irritation etc
I can breath fine from mouth
I'm gonna do the physical though
Once I get results I'm gonna go visit the (other)doc to check up with my allergy and sinus irritation

Howard can you please tell me how you came up with this helpful cure for AirHunger , of which I have on and off for over 30 years ?
Good luck.
Thank you, once again, Mr. Cooper sir.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Happy to help. Just like and share my vids and that helps get the message out.
this is the worst problem because this is something so part of us. like if I have anxiety about getting sick I can at least eventually distract myself. my breathing literally is what I do to live so its probably one of the hardest symptoms for me. I remember when i was a kid and my friends would joke "manual breathing" and I'd be like "wow u asshole" and forget about manual breathing after literally 5 seconds but my adult self is so hyperaware now its crazy
How much of this is air hunger WITH somatic breathing OCD?
I’ve been on both air hunger and somatic breathing OCD Reddit, and both sub groups often report the same things.
it happens mostly at night and when u lay on my back
I believe that one of the reasons this can happen is that often people have anxiety in the evenings due to less distractions and more time "in their head".
Doing the breathing exercises I suggest and relaxing through the unpleasant feeling is the way forwards. Good luck.

Very informative video, i love it
I have been doing the excersize from your first video about 3 weeks now, no real sings of improvment yet.
Good luck!

Do you think air hunger and sensorimotor OCD are the same thing?
@@anxietybeatinghacks thanks so much for the reply!

Whats your symptoms?
The video is a bit confusing, Howard, because if the tank of water represents blood pH, then the level should go up not down - since pH increases, rather than decreases, on excretion of carbon dioxide.
Lower pH number means more acidic, higher pH number means more alkaline
Breathing out CO2 makes blood more alkaline, higher pH.
@@anxietybeatinghacks Okay, thank you, Howard, that makes sense.

Its like everything is anxiety with doctors, fnd its anxiety..air hunger dyspnea its anxiety, the doctor said she would refer me to physiotherapy to meet but then only sent me a link off google with anxiety breathing exercises,
intresting,
after all 6 books about breathing, 3 seminars, hunderests articles and maybe thousands of videos now i learned that body tries to balance acidicy when its too alkaline, so its goes death circiut.
body cannot help itself when its acidic, force us to breath (positively- take air, or negatively- give co2 full air)
body balance itself when its alkaline (basic), and say breath its too acidic right after in seconds
damn
YEP... most people don't realise that this breathing issue is actually more to do with your body balancing pH levels than lung issues. You could think of it as Anxiety induced Respiratory Alkalosis.
