It's not about getting the CO2 levels up... it's about increasing your ability to tolerate CO2. With air hunger you become hypersensitive to CO2.
7:15 THANK YOU I was wondering why I was fine while doing any physical activity and laying down but not sitting. Because when working out, I know how much air I should intake, and I breathe shallow when laying down. But when sitting, I intake too much air and causing gas build up. Dont do breathing exercise your symtomps will be worse , breath from your nose then exhale it thorugh mouth then colse your nose again ,,, i hope all of you will be better soon 🥲
I've had this on and off for years. I get flare ups that will last weeks or months at a time, not helped by the fact I was told for years I had asthma. Apparently it's not asthma, it's some sort of dysfunctional breathing that just randomly comes and goes! But even knowing that, I can never stop the panick that I may actually have something serious. Such a horrid cycle

Actually you can’t control your thoughts… no one can... that’s kind of the point of the video… that realisation can be quite liberating. Watch again and see if it makes more sense on rewatching.

Thank you so much! I've been practicing meditation over about 4 months now and everything is so centered around breath and breathing. I kept being so anxious when I noticed that air hunger that I'd come out of meditation more anxious than I began D:
Okay I Thought I was actually Dying of lung cancer. I would feel the urge to take deep breaths and I could never get a full breath. I learned that I can’t tolerate co2 good at all. If I take a deep breath and hold it for 8-10 seconds then slowly release it literally fixes my Air hunger immediately. Yall don’t hold your breath until you can’t anymore, but realase it after 10 seconds, it will build the co2 in your blood to let your red blood Cells actually release oxygen

Just found this video after struggling for over 4 years. It used to be once in a while for a couple hours a day, but now it’s every waking minute of my day, every day. Its caused severe depression and feelings of hopelessness because I just felt like I’ll be living the rest of my life feeling like I’m on the verge of suffocating. I’ve read every article and paper there is and they all say the SAME useless thing. “Try reduce stress and practice deep breathing”. These doctors should ashamed of themselves with such useless advice. I’m going to try this out and hope it helps 🤞🏼
How much of this is air hunger WITH somatic breathing OCD? I’ve been on both air hunger and somatic breathing OCD Reddit, and both sub groups often report the same things.

Since 1995, I suffered from anxiety-induced suffocation (I couldn't get enough air into my lungs). I learned the Buteyko method in 2024 and it helped a lot. Those who struggle with similar complaints should definitely learn it, because it is the solution.
I can't stop crying finally. relief! been to doc after doc emergency room urgent cares they all say anxiety or try to give me a new med literally felt like a test dummy I tried this and the first time I noticed it working wow thank you so much I'm diagnosed anxiety & panic disorder 8yrs ago and this was the first time I felt relief! Brilliant. Loved the explanation. 15 years ago I suffered from debilitating anxiety, and can’t tell you how many NHS psychiatrists and other professionals tried to help me identify the root cause and deal with it. I finally came to pretty much the same conclusion as you. So why is the NHS wasting so much resource for no good reason?
I was googling chest pain, because I have suffered with this for 2 years. I’ve had numerous heart investigations, but through a video by Dr Sanjay Gupta I came across your video. And yes, I over breathe and suffer from anxiety and air hunger. Just a few minutes of regulating my breathing and the chest pain is gone. Brilliant. Thankyou!
I just got to know this term, as im suffering it for years. I so tired being alive doing something tt supposed to be voluntary on conscious basis. 😢 especially when i have sinus, the blockage makes my anxiety worsen.

As soon as someone recommends 'breathing' to overcome anxiety, I switch off immediately. You seem to take a different approach, which has got my attention.
If you need to take a deep breath is it better to hold and breath out slow or breath out fast?
