If Timex didn't do reissues you can guarantee people would be asking why not? They have some pretty cool retro designs that obviously appeal! My reissue has been ticking away for nearly 4 years now with no issues and it has Indiglo. Just like Invicta they are obviously doing something right or they wouldn't still be around! Cheers for the video Jody 👍. For the record I quite like the watch ⌚❤
The bracelet looks perfectly period correct for the vintage look of a 1975 watch, but unfortunately there's the comfortability issue you mention. The watch does have a great retro look too. Thanks for the review.
I got a couple of recent Timex Qs and they all have common TMI or SII branded Seiko quartz movements. The Marlin and Pan Am chronos use Seiko VK mechaquartz
Wow am I really this early?! Not quite sure how I feel about timex to be honest. I just feel like I’m getting a much better bang for my buck by searching vintage citizen Promasters.
I'm surprised they didn't spring for Vanta blank for the dial and hands. I think that would have enhanced the floating hand effect. Old design with new tech would have been cool.
I’ll always love Timex. My first 2 watches were Timex quartz pieces but they always seem to get it about 70-80% of the way there. Whether it’s the price, movement, build quality there’s always something
Just sold a Timex waterbury chronograph (funky subdial colours). I loved the watch and wore it often, but just could not get a good fit with the bracelet. No half links or micro adjusters. What would it cost Timex to stamp another hole or 2 into the clasp?
I'm not a fan of 70s design whether it is cars, avocado green appliances, interior design etc. But the watches from that era are a blast! Bought myself a birth year (and month!) King Seiko which is very much not a 70s looking watch but I plan to pick up some more birth year watches soon.
There absolutely is a way to make the hands 'float' - by turning the hands into thin discs of polycarbonate with appropriate AR coatings and just applying the 'visible' parts of the hands it would appear as they are actually floating. Cartier uses this trick in a couple of their 'how the hell are they doing this?' designs.
If you get that unlucky & love the watch a watchmaker can just replace the movement which is bought in anyway, you could do it if you could understand Cousins watch parts catalogue website, they say up to a year of a English watchmakers training is devoted to elucidation of esoteric Cousins catalogue ciphers....
@@jamesblonde2271 In my case it was a chronograph quartz movement. There wasn't even a hint of documentation about it. I ended up getting a used watch from Ebay. Works perfectly fine... but unfortunately the indiglo does not work.
When I look at Timex watches I see a lot of them I like. That is until I look at the case backs and see press on case backs. The case back style on the Enigma I don't mind but I prefer the screw on.
Stil looking for a reissue of my first watch. Guess I found it on their website, only the dial color is different. Wait for the correct one to show up or just buy 🤔 My dilemma for the day it seems.
This case shape and crystal looks great. The dot doesnt flim my flam and the dail is too boring for me. Rolled links for $50 and under? Blue leather strap on this one..
Y'know the clear version of this is so much more effective on similar watches, this is pretty but the mystery dial ( as this comp is called in vintage circles) is a bit half assed imho.
They could have done the dial and hands in vantablack to improve the effect but that would have added to the cost. Expensive comsidering the cost of the quartz movement but a bit more interesting than the endless stream of divers out there.
I think Timex may have more appeal for some Americans. This looks like an interesting idea but the hands blue doesn't seem to match the dial & so the effect is rather underwhelming. Add a dodgy bracelet & a cheap quartz movement together with a strong $USD and I can see this appealing to a rather select niche.
I like Timex, my first watch was a Timex made in Britain and i still have it and it still runs, my Hummvee i had in the early 2000s was amazing and i wore it to destruction, but recently the watches from them i have owned are very poor, these limited edition versions seem no exception . Overpriced and trading on a once great name.
I can wait until it comes down to the price we SHOULD be paying like i did with the Milano XL , and plus one one the Marmont, i'd rather have that one.
It's a shame they didn't reissue the old movement for this. The OG had a Mecha-Quartz movement, ticking 4x's a second. What a shame, but the OG version didn't have any lume either..😢
The zodiac astrographic was a much cooler way to go for this idea. There it is actually clear disks attached to the pinion so the hands really are just floating
Timex has some neat designs but every one ive owned has felt like a toy. Not really any better than a fashion watch. Actually the Expedition that i have from 20 years ago is nicer than anything they make now, i think they've cheaped out as theyve gotten more stylish
I quite like that Timex are keeping the re-issues genuine to the originals, warts and all, but agree about the lum. I've got the QLCA (ana digi), and I love that, though massively overpriced for what it is, but Timex are using the fact that the light is as sh!te as the original one as a selling point. Good on em I say.
I'm sure Timex quartz movements are their own design as are their mechanicals (based on an Omega movement). Over 80% of Timex watches sold worldwide are either made (fully or in final assembly) and/or shipped from the Cebu, Philippines plant. I think the Philippines plant are their main manufacturing arm, but Timex is very a multi-national company, headquartered in USA. Timex Group also produces watches under other brands, including Nautica, Guess, GC, Salvatore Ferragamo, Versace, Ted Baker, Missoni, Furla, Adidas, Philipp Plein, and Plein Sport.
It’s a fun watch for sure, but I think their World Timer 1972 Reissue is a much better proposition. Thanks for the great review as alway. “Premium Rolled Link Bracelet…”😆

10 or so years ago, I used to own some timex pieces. In 2024, the assembled in China has become "everything in China" for this part of my collection. At that price point, all I can do is laugh.
Having owned many true vintage “mystery dial” watches, I would never call this Timex one. It looks like a budget attempt at a Zodiac Astrographic. That said, I love Timex’s rereleases.
Oh, but for a watch company that can take the time to make sure the second-hand aligns with the indices. Is it that difficult? It's a quartz watch DEAL BREAKER for me.
Timex watches were never meant to cost this much. I have a vintage auto from my grandfather but the movement is comprised of a lot of plastic (gears and wheels and such) so it it a disposable movement. They have to be inexpensive to make sense. Sorry.
I love that you review Timex! Online people always kick Timex in the gut... unfairly. I've had Timex-es all my life, and I've liked them all. My Ironman still makes my heart happy when I put it on to go to the gym. This one's not very impressive, but Timex has something for whatever somebody wants. They're the North American Casio. There, I said it. More!!
I bought it almost instant after it hit the US store. Love the dial, reliable little battery hatch for future battery change, charming little tonneau shaped case (though it’s all polished with no brushing like the original), and zero lume (just like the original). But that bracelet, after sizing it and putting it on it looks and feels like cheap metal, shines almost like a plastic nickel… omg, I was embarrassed to wear it, luckily I had a Veblenist raven colored canvas strap that I threw on it and it’s been great ever since… I don’t mind throwing that garbage bracelet in a dumpster fire, it’s never touching any watch again… yikes😢
Gotta say the biggest disappointment to me... absolutely no lume. And the braclet..oof. I switched it to a black rubber band...the bracelet absolutely terrible. I -did- break a screwdriver in this. Very 😞.
Paying more than like $40 USD for a Timex is just insane. If you told almost anyone you paid $200 for a Timex, they would think you're off your rocker. The name, the brand, the heritage, is synonymous with cheap, often crap, Walmart grade watches and the world knows this. Just YUCK, and this seems no different.

Timex just cant get a coherent product together. You can tell they are more about price point than result. Its such a shame, another $50 bucks on any of these and you would have something special (musuo black anyone?)
I love that Timex is crushing it... Timex is the brand that got me into watches, and I suspect they are getting new people into watches still.
I had the original. Fun fact is it had a pretty unique movement with a higher hertz quartz crystal and the seconds hand ticked 3x per second.

Why didn’t they put the dot on the pinion itself? Would give the “floating” effect from more angles. Staying true to the original I guess…
