I kinda feel like this whole long-form podcast heyday we're enjoying is a 2nd Enlightenment, but this time for everyone and not just the academic community. I can't imagine how many young, future world-changing scientists will be inspired by these amazing conversations. Thanks Max and Lex!

I HOPE that is what is going on. Most regular people lack the confidence to join in such discussions, but these podcasts make it clear that these guys are just like all humans, they’ve just devoted their life to knowledge and learning......instead of carpentry, small-business owner, or delivery driver. As work is automated....its already happening, but in the next 20 years, we will have to deal with mass unemployment.
All of the big revolutions in human thought, occurred where the stress about where the next meal was coming from, diminished. Agricultural revolution, industrial revolution, and now the communications and automation revolution. An explosion of art, philosophy, mathematics, anything......people have drive, the VAST majority of them, and letting go of repetitive, menial human labor, can change the world IMO. I sincerely hope that is where we are headed. Growing pains along the way of course, but its happening.
All that is required is the desire to learn. College and graduate lectures are everywhere. Textbooks can be found anywhere.

One thought that always runs through my mind is how intelligent and philophical the Greeks were.
But no one is talking about how much deeper and informed our conversations are today. Not only are we capable of observing and understanding the biggest black holes, but also the smallest things in the universe.
Now we have the science and technology not just to back up our theories but to help guide us into even more discoverys.
And here we are in the 21st century and we're doing this like Greeks, we're talking about it. We're teaching each other. I have learned so much from Lex and his guests, AND IVE NEVER MET THE MAN. Him and his guests are doctors, scientist, smartest people we can find. AND THEY'RE TEACHING US EVERYTHING THEY KNOW FOR FREE. I'm happy with what we have here and I wouldn't have it any other way.

This is hands down the most awe-inspiring podcast video I have seen in 2021.. I teared up when Max was talking about the soviet hero (although I already knew the story).. and teared up again in the last discussion about life after death. The cosmic perspective presented by insightful scientists never fails to deliver.

One thing to consider about the ethics at 36:40, there are also situations where such a logic in a car would get abused. E.g. If "a selfdriving car would never accelerate into a human" (which at first sounds reasonable), carjackers could just jump in front of your car. Or for more hostile environments, it could also prevent escaping from dangerous situations.
Lives are full of edge cases...

Bringing AI into all situations, I'm sure such things as 'car jacking' attempts can be recognised at least as quick as you or I could fathom. I'm thinking of a power surge in reverse then a spectacular 180 under advanced steering and brakes - with captured video of everything. With relevant evidence, the security of the car passengers would warrant 'alternative' AI routines.

Lex is an AI robot that reached AGI in a far and distant future alien civilization that was sent back in time (within the simulation) to alter a dystopian future.... by wearing a black suit and starting a podcast. The podcast was the only thing that would prevent Lex from gaining self awareness and taking over the world... 🤖😱🤯💥🥸.

    Second tour.
Max Tegmark is great, we see its comments, posts, lessons, whatever, and he's always nice and helpful, open minded.
After 155, Lex has improved a lot, Max is always a good person to rely on.
Congrats to both of you. 🙏

This conversation is so beautiful. I continue to have so much hope and inspiration for the future. Both of your conversations have open my eyes to many things and I absolutely loved reading life 3.0 one of my favorite books. the Resource you created I've share that with my family, friends, and community and it is such a needed tool. Thank you so much for your knowledge and wisdom that you shared. I'm so excited that we live in a day and age where we have tools like UA-cam that can help provide a conduit to be exposed to messages like yours.

Amazing conversation, brilliantly done as ever Lex. I really like "improve the news" - If it were possible to make it more focussed on my region - the UK that'd be great, (I note the preferences section) I'm not so interested in USA political news, amazing place though it is. How else can we use machine learning to get more truthful/ insightful information?

I'm now in a mature situation of life where I've got time to spend and explore. Based on your perhaps similarly relevant comment for you, as and when you do find the time, it can be enlightening how letting such things as 'varying' Lex interviews broaden your horizon, awareness and consideration.

I really hope Max launches improve the news as an app, I’d use that as my main news source 100%. There’s too much bias in the news, having a source that is programmed to filter that for you is a great idea and will be a big benefit to society

David Eagleman comes to mind on Max's comment about death. Eagleman said something like, you cease to exist in three ways: when you die physically, when your name is spoken for the last time, and the last time you cross someone's mind.
