- We create the legendary Trapcode Particular effect, without using Trapcode Particular...
1. Create a Composition. Create a Solid.
2. Go to Effect, Simulation and add a CC Particle Systems II to the Solid.
3. Go to Layer, New and create a Null object.
4. Alt Click the stopwatch next to Producer in the CC Particle Systems II.
5. Using the pick-whip tool link it to the position of the Null.
6. Alt Click the stopwatch next to position in the Null object.
7. Write the expression: wiggle(1,300);
8. Go to CC Particle Systems II and set Radius X and Y to 0.1.
9. Set Animation to 'Direction Normalized'.
10. Set Velocity and Direction to 0
11. Set Gravity and Extra to 0.1
12. Set Particle Type to Line.
13. Set Opacity Map to Fade Out.
14. Set Transfer Mode to Add.
15. Set Birth Colour to blue and the Death Colour to a darker blue.
16. Set Max Opacity to 10.
17. Copy and paste the Solid containing the particle system.
18. Do this a few times, offsetting the anchor slightly for each copy.
19. Set all the solids to an add operation mode.
20. Enjoy your handy work.
Best tutorial so far. Short and many possible usages for effects. Amazing.
I have been going through 50 minute tutorials and you taught me more in 5 minutes. THANK YOU!
I definitely appreciate your going back and showing us without Trapcode. I'm teach motion graphics to high schoolers, and we spent all of our money on our Adobe subscriptions! Nice work.
Hello this is Mike with Infinite Possibilities Motion Graphics - I was laid off from my job about 3 months ago. Just started getting into After Effects - Found your channel - You do an amazing job of explaining how to. Thanks! Keep up the great work - I'll be watching!
This was great, I used it on a presentation for a product of mine. Keep the videos coming!
thank you bro, waiting for your new genius tutorials .actually do that without plugins.Nice work
Fantastic and straight to the point. You've earned a sub.
You are my Hero! Sick skills :)
Thats really great!
Thanks man, that was super helpful! Just used it to animate the trail of a rocket.
AWESOME. I followed you step by step and oh boy oh boy oh boy, I have it on my screen now. You rule
thanks
that was really good. THanks for making this tutorial
Great tips and very useful tutorial, Thank you
This helps me to create a nice jewellery commercial. instead wiggle the null object position, I animated that manually and set gravity to 0. Thanks man
Really cool, thanks. Can't wait to try it !!!
This was incredibly helpful! Thank you!
wow gr8 and outstanding light streaks thank u very much sir its so easy and amazing biggest like fully played
Thanks for a great tutorial.. I really wanted to know how to do such an effect with particle system 2
Awesome. I love this effect. Thank you!
Great tutorial, thank you!
thx so much 4 doing it without plugins!!
really really
Awesome, Thanks Dude :D
Nice work, thanks.
Thank you for the tutorial and for Toto
Great tutorial! Maybe can you say us if it's possible to choose the itinerary of the Light streaks, and how do it??
Thanks a lot!!
this awesome! thanks bro!
Good direct tutorial and straight to the point. Is it possible with this method to use particles, and track the body of a person, and eventually remove the subject person to only leave the particles outlining the subject? Thank you in advance.
thanks bro, awesome tutorial! =)
Thank you so much, love your work
Glad you enjoy it!
Awesome. Subscribed!
wow 60k views, thanks guys...please share this video
***** bro you deserve it nice and simple tuto :)
NO.. thank you!
Thanks a lot for this ! :)
Wow super easy and awesome, Bro please post many particular etc latest ones make a playlist.
Well done!
Your a legend cheers bro
The whole no plugin thing makes it even more educational
This was awesome
this is fantastic
Great tutorial! I made my null object move in a nice curved swoop, but the particle path looks not as smooth when it follows, like it's hitting the tiny red points of the position path and showing little corners rather than a smooth circular line. Any ideas on how to make it really smooth? Thanks!
awesome thanks !
My duplicated streaks' anchor points don't seem to move off the original position! Not sure why?
ok.just got it now.thank you
Thanks a lot!
heyy dude! i've done everything correct and it should be working however the light follows the null wiggle with a verticle tail and wont bend and curve, any idea on how to solve this? thanx
TK tv you probably linked the position of the solid layer position rather than the position of the particle system
ahhh yes i didn't click producer then position! bam all working now thanx a bunch!! appreciate it
Like it already; I neeeeeeded this for use with Stop Motion. xD
Thanks very helpfull.
Great tutorial! I have a little problem with point 5; my CC 2014 has no pick-whip at the Producer>Position. Is there any way to do this point without it? Or are my settings wrong? It would be great if you can help me out!
Thank you!! Couldn`t find, how to make it longer living. Appeared, it`s "longevity (sec) to bigger in yellow number upper the scale.
very cool!
appreciate the tutorial @QuickVFX . I have a question I hope you can help me with. I would like to use this effect on a video clip of a person tattoo. The clip consist of a person plugging a cord to the mic cord of his tattoo. So im trying to make the tattoo cord light up as if a surge of electricity is following the winding tattoo cord towards to the mic and then the mic glows at the end! The person is moving a bit and the pressure at point of contact warps his tattoo mic cord a bit too. Thank you good sir for sharing your knowledge through all of your tutorials !
Thats was great tutorial !!! Can we make the the streak follow a particular path ???
Great tutorial. I need to make "root" like flares where they originate from specific location and then they flare out downwards. What do I need to set up to get that effect and what constrains do I use? Can you help me?
Thank you
awesome
Great tutorial! Is there a way I can set the path of the light streak?
Nice one
❤goooooood👍
thanks a lot
Great Tutorial! Is it possible to manipulate where the lines are going?
Im not 100% sure but I think that if you change the position of the null with the stopwatch icon and trace whatever you want, then you can. I hope this helps
I like this more than the particular
lol, when he says birth color, it sounds like barf color!!!! anyways, greate and quick tutorial man!!!!
Спасибо, thanks
Thanks
love it thanks allot although mine are common out all dotted and not smouth any udas
try increasing the birth rate
is there a way for the streaks to be more irregular? Like a bigger tip and a smaller, pointier tail?
Is it possible to manipulate the direction in which the streak is heading towards? And like actually control it's movement rather than it being completely random?
Was hoping to get the duplicate to move in a different direction but keeps staying cropped within the frame box if I move it and can't really get its movements to differ dramatically either. Help? Thanks!
Toto in the beginning = WIN.
do you have a tutorial or something where you can take this effect and make it glow around a circle?
just search for glow in the effects menu. There are a few different glows :) bunch of settings you can mess with
Hello, I was wondering if there is anyway to make it go from Right to Left.
I don't want it to wiggle but just move from Right to Left.
I tried rotating the null object (whipped with the particle rotation) but it still comes out of the null object vertically.
+Rusty Han yes checkout my 'constrain wiggle along an axis tutorial'
you saved my ass bro thx a lot
thanks a lot. But am having issues connecting the producer to the null object.please help me.
particle producer -> 3d null ! oh I got it
Great tutorial ^^ But how write "wiggle(1,300); in after ? and were is this button which you are linking with solidus from null? which it is a version after? I don't have these function... Sorry for my english :D
alt + mouse click on stopwatch = expression
Once I got to step 12, I noticed my line wasn't swirling around like your's is...it was literally a line that was moving around and not bending...how do I fix this?
Paul clement power thnx man
Thank you my Friend here take my Sub and like : ) Useful
What if I wanted to do this, but on an actual video clip, where the trail follows an object?
ilya m. Like the effect on this season’s DWTS opening? I think I’ll try motion tracking then apply to null. I’ll let you know if it works out.
Just saw your post was 3 years ago so hopefully solved for you. New territory for me though.
Hey! Thank you, how can i control the direction of the streak? I want to make a letter
Hi did you find it out ? I really need it :)
Better than video copilot's
That's good but how to give it a path with mask tool?
Can this be added to a path using pen tool for control
can you animate this trail to follow a object or direct it. If so how?
Cheryl Ram yes two ways..instead of using wiggle, just animate the position by hand...using keyframes...or you can use window>motion sketch, in order to use the mouse to draw a path by hand
Pls make a tutorial of it
What about if I wanna do a random direction to the light streak controlled by me, instead of an automatic one?
lolpo555 easy just manually animate the null yourself. don't add the wiggle expression, just your own keyframes..please share ;)
Hey, can you make it to transparent background?
i mean like alpha channel something so it can be put to some video footage
Kawa Kibi just render it with a black background, and then use an 'add' blend operation over the video footage...or you can export as a png sequence
+QuickVFX I would like to use these streaks as well throughout my video. I am using CS6 and don't see any png sequence option... Also using the blend mode in Premier darkens my already low lit footage so not completely what I was after. I see no transparent composition option... which is a little silly in my mind but hey what do I know.
thanks for the video : ) do you know mabe how can i make a lightning effect that go and disappear fast like car city light at night?
I think you would want the light streak to move away along the z-axis, with some slight x and y movement...a camera would have to follow the null slighly from behind..I will try and do a tutorial for this
*****
hi i am trying to make this effect for my logo but what im doing differently is i want it to be a glowing circle and hold its position as a circle while letters form in the centre. How do i create a circle using this effect? I just want a cool logo :'(
Toto!
hi thx for this tutorial can i create this effect on text
Yes you can!
right at 1:04 when i hit producer and position and tried to link the particles to the null object the expression position items never popped up next to part producer position so i couldn't link the motion. help please
Alt + click on Producer's Position timewatch icon, and the new menu drops down, then u link it.
plz can you give me a link to download this light streak because a don't have in my after effects cs6 and thx
can you add a "mask path"
I don't have that expression position option at 1:02. Wtf is this?
Idk why, maybe I'm just stupid, but when I type in the Wiggle(1,300); thing, I get a message that says ''Function Wiggle is undefined. Expression disabled''.. What am I doing wrong?
is there any way to alter the path of which the particles go? can i adjust it to fit my video?
Adjust your wiggle settings on the null to better fit your composition. You can also try splitting the X and Y values on the null position and wiggle them at separate levels.
thanks man
If I wanted the trail to go in a circle is there an expression or something I can use?
a simple way would be to create two nulls...the first null put right in the centre of the composition..the second null put outside somewhere in its 'orbit'..then parent this null to the centered null...when you rotate the centered null, the orbit null should now rotate in a perfect circle...this will be the emitter
you can make both nulls 3D and then add something like time*30 to the centered nulls Z position...this way you will get a 3d helix effect...
oh and when you are linking the position of the emitter/producer, use this expression: L = thisComp.layer("Null 1");
L.toComp([0,0,0])
Null 1 replace with the name of your orbit null name
how can i do it this with path..
How do you write script in after effects
How can apply for text sir
Mine just looked like a dot on the screen. No effect light like a rocket trail
How can I make this line thicker ?
I think increase the birth rate of particles
step one...create a soild---lost already. haha..i need to get a tutorial on a.e for dummies.
