Maddy, when you said this song is crafted by a master you were spot on. Few electric guitarists can craft their songs as thoughtfully as this man. His phrasing, chord structures, clean, clear picking, sense of timing... he's got it all. One of the very best of all time.

I'm 60 and have been addicted to music my entire life since I was literally a baby. I taught myself to play drums off of vinyl albums to hundreds of bands. Back in the day I had heard of Mahogony Rush but never really listened to any of their music. Move forward to around 2020 when Frank came across my feed. I have been absolutely addicted to his music ever since, as well as mad at myself for not having listened decades sooner. He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest musicians of all-time.

Frank is one of the best ever. He should be a household name and at the very least be in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame. I have seen him four times going back to 1978 and even met him once. He lived to play. Thanks for covering this. I can tell how much it moved you too.

That key change at 7:43 takes the already beautiful blues tune into a pleasantly surprising and bright new direction with the jazz waltz rhythm that continues to evolve. Lot of dynamics and that gorgeous tone from his Gibson SG makes this an epic adventure..

    • @eudymaverickmentor
      @eudymaverickmentor 6 днів тому +1

The SG with those single coil pickups makes it have this weird cross between beefy Gibson's and the cutting of a Fender. An SG married a Strat. Great tone that you can only get from an SG.

I saw the same tour in Dallas, Kerry. His rendition of Strange Universe made me cry tears of joy! He gets ignored by most pundits. I would love Rick Beato to interview him. And to think he was self taught. No description would be hyperbole in describing his musical genius. He has it all...guitar mastery, musical versatility, his God given voice, his incredible song writing ability, his beating drug addiction...I mean how can you dis anything this man has done? I've been a fan since Maxoom and since that album he has only gotten better. I wish him Godspeed and a full recovery. I would love to see him again live. His live performances have been and are simply great.

I loved this song back then, and i never understood the jazz part at the end until Maddy made her "life goes on" suggestion.
    Brilliant conclusion, Maddy!
And you are pleasant to watch when you enjoy fine music. That was half of the fun.

This version is so much better than the album version. IMHO. On the album there was too much production, too much keyboards. This version is more raw and has so much more emotion. Great song and a wonderful version.

Wow! This is my first introduction to this artist and first time hearing this song. Excellent guitar work. I noticed something different about his guitar, shaped like a Gibson SG but with Fender Stratocaster pick-ups, unusual custom instrument. His band is excellent. They sounded like they were recording in a studio the sound was so clear and clean.

There were 2 guitarist that changed my life forever and influenced me into becoming a guitarist they were Jimi Hendrix and this man Frank Marino. Never saw Jimi but I have seen Frank and what a master guitar player he has perfect technique, Jimi was one of Franks influences as well there are several Hendrix songs that Frank has done of his and nobody does Jimi better than him he absolutely will burn your face off with unbelievably fast and blistering lead runs when he wants to, but he can turn in an instant and play something like this song and be so melodic as well. Frank can longer play guitar because of a medical condition in his playing arm but I will always be thankful for what he has given us. I love you brother and I pray and hope for God's healing of your condition you are truly one of the greatest of all time. Maddie great sincere reaction as always, you are beautiful on the outside and on the inside.✌💗🎸🎼🎵

@@FURDOG1961 I know he can still play but not tour that's what I meant to say. I have checked out his pedals, but for my digital amp I use a NYC Deluxe Big Muff and various overdrives that I am very happy with and I also have a ENGL tube rack system and an ENGL 65W Fireball head and I don't need anything except one of my overdrives for them and don't really need them the ENGL's are a couple of beasts. But I appreciate the recommendation brother✌👍🎸

Maddy, I saw Frank and MR in concert in the mid 70's after their MR IV album came out. He is just an absolute guitar genius. From interviews I have listened to with him he is a very humble human being. He is a deeply religious man and says his ability with the guitar is a gift from God. . God gives each of us a gift. We just need to find out what that is. Well, he found out what the gift was and the world is better for it. What you see on this video is what I experienced live and up close with 6K others. What a great night is was. "It's begun to rain" is on the MR IV album. They did it at the concert I was at and the crowd was just mesmerized. What an incredible talent, and he finished just like on this video. With a big smile on his face.

In those days, Mahogany Rush albums typically came out in the late spring, when mild evening showers often follow sunny afternoons in Montreal. Back in 1975 there was a place in Davison Michigan called Sherwood Forest. It was a small hall were bands used to play. It could hold about 200 people. One weekend my friends and I went out there to party. Frank and other bands were playing. It was a cool place. It was private property so cops were not a concern. Every table had a Whisky soaked watermelon on it as well as three joints. Frank was just milling around in the crowd and we went outside and burned a fat one. I remember about six of us were passing it around. I had no idea who Frank was. Not until he took the stage and smoked the place to the ground! Ted Nugent and Bob Seger were playing that day as well but they were not famous yet so nobody really cared about it. It was just a party. After Ted played Frank took the stage and I said hey I just smoked a joint with that dude, Then Frank let loose and smoked that place to the ground! You should have heard the screaming. He was unreal! Bob was up next but the crowd was all in for Frank! Nobody cared about Bob. He played and sang well but Frank done blasted it out of the park. People were actually leaving while Bob was on stage. I was only 19 then but had the time of my life! If I had known how big these three would become I would have gotten autographs. That is one day I will never forget!

I've listened to It's Begun To Rain many many times. But tonight I'm hearing this and picturing it a bride and groom having this as their song at a reception. It would be perfect; the first half anyway before it goes into speed improvisations.

Frank Marino was one of my biggest influences when I started playing guitar, I remember seeing him for the first time on the broadcast of CalJam II, I didn't even know who he was and I sat there with my jaw on the floor, I got to see him in 79 at Day On The Green Monsters of Rock...he is absolutely amazing and criminally underrated.

What a beautiful young lady you are. I first saw Mahogany Rush in 76. I had been a fan years before but in the military not much chance. And followed with 3 more times through the years. One of my favorites if not my favorite. But I really think you should try “The Answer” from the same live set. Bless you Frank. I know you because you have been in my prayers for some time now.

I've seen Fran Marino first hand many times in the early 70's. He is the most underrated great guitarists of the modern era. Why? Because he was a purist. In that he would not conform to the musical empires of the time just for profit. That left him doing what he does best. Perform from his heart with passion, integrity, and excellence. I have two stories I would love to tell if anyone is interested. Frank and I are the exact same age. One of my life's objectives is to meet him and converse on issues we both believe in. Frank Marino is a really cool guy in the true sense of the word. Thank you for your reaction video. You captured what few seem to understand. He transmits emotions just through his playing that great Gibson SG guitar and his special effects pedals.

Hey, Maddy, if u have the DVD or can borrow it from a friend, listen to the Jimi Hendrix covers on the 1st set, Are You Experienced, Axis Bold As Love, The Wind Cries Mary and Redhouse. Unbelievable renditions of those tunes. I find myself playing those quite often and loud with windows open for all the neighbors to hear. Sets 1-3 lasts almost 6 hours. I think u nailed it with ur review of this tune.

I lost my virginity in the mid-70's in the back seat of my '68 Chevelle while listening to Mahogany Rush's "Strange Universe" on my 8-track player. I've been fortunate enough to see Mahogany Rush perform live a half dozen times and now at age 65 I still love to listen to them play. Thanks for giving Frank some well-deserved air time and props. One of the best...

So glad you bring to us that piece of "Music Art".
I loved that guitar player since I was fourteen, and I'm 66 now.
So thank you for your comments that touched my heart deeply because Frank is still one of my favorite guitar player.
I grew up a couple of miles from his house back then, and saw him perform fourteen times in my life !
