Our French House Adventure - Part 58 Modifying the Utility Window

- Hello again, welcome to another installment of the renovations at our 120 year old house in Normandy, France.
This time I modify the utility room window. Some of the glass in this window has been cracked since we brought the house. Now is the time to convert it into a double glazed window.

Regarding fitting the double-glazed glass into the top section of the old frame, was it your preference to fit it with the wooden battens nailed on? Or was it just that the old frame wasn't thick enough to rebate it deeper and use putty?
I used the thinnest double glazing 4/6/4 that I could get, without going to the ridiculously expensive heritage double glazing units. The old frames will 'just' allow them to be rebated in, with the battens on the outside being the trade off. However, I think that they do allow a much neater finish.
Another great video. I love watching you work, you make everything look so doable, it gives me confidence to have a go at diy jobs I might not tackle otherwise. Your house is looking great. I also think you put your videos together really well with just the right balance of talk, captions and time-lapse. Great job! 👍

I only put up videos once I have some actual progress to show. I'm not going to spend ages showing life in France or trying to make it about me by endlessly talking. That way the videos are about the renovations, which is what people seem to like.

Such a great solution with buying the new window bottoms and retrofitting the tops with double glazed glass. I’m sure that will help this winter

Mostly it's cutting grass and pulling out stinging nettles, but I am doing some work out there right now, so I'll add some on the next video

I do have it all safely stored away. It is just a shame that it doesn't fit on the modern windows. I have seen some old hardware for sale in brocantes during our travels, I'm sure I will find a use for it eventually

We are in a fairly quiet area anyway but it is nice to stop the draughts
