The explanation for scales/modes was far better than other tutorials on the internet. Thank you Uncle Judy for this condensed, simple to understand and difference between different scales/modes. The towers caught me off guard not gonna lie.
excellent video, thanks for the comeback, funny as fuck and informative as shit and really great pacing, even your saying at the end of the video has a better tone im feeling a strong 10 on this one
I don't know any shit, so i play random notes until something sounds good to me. I think Death (the death metal band) used the phrigian scale in all their albums.
Whole tone is awesome! It is very weird, but you can use it over a 5 chord and you’re basically getting a dominant scale with a b5 and a b13. Or #4 and #5 depending on how you want to think of it. But, it may not be the best choice to play all the time over a V chord, but a fun change of pace
Zoomer guitar players are so weird, super condescending vibes for some reason. Also, wholetone is just stacked perfect 2nds for a giant Augmented sound. Works great for an ethereal sound, as well as serialism sounds. Shawn Lane was fan of the Wholetone scale, as well as Allan Holdsworth, I've even heard it in Scott Henderson's playing. Im surprised your not into it considering your a Jazz guy, I'm not a jazz guy at all, just recently got into fusion after being into metal most my life.
basically play the pentatonic over the wrong chord and add or subtract notes to be silly and then you know how to play music just as good as mozart malmsteen
This is such a dope video for someone who doesn't know anything about scales. I need some help. I've been playing guitar for like 10 years but I know zero scales or music theory (i know). I play metal in a band and have become really good at metal rhythm, came up with hundreds of cool riffs. But I also write many of the songs and although I wrote some really strong ones, I feel I have hit a brick wall now, and im sure it's because of my total lack of knowledge of where to go on the fretboard. I have troubles connecting two awesome riffs and I have trouble with transitioning from one section of the song to another. For someone like me, what is the best way to start to learn in a non overwhelming way and without a teacher? Plz no n8 need help
Just learn the minor pentatonic "box" and improvise with it, eventually you'll break out of the box and learn the whole fretboard. Learn some cool blues licks to go into your repertoire and string em together over some chord progressions. At a certain point, you'll be able to play around the fretboard and experiment with heavier stuff. After that you don't need to learn anything else, just ask Kirk Hammett.
Im starting a private highschool for music and play guitar, but like. How the fuck do i get better at guitar dude. Im at the intermediate lvl rn but the theory and feel you use in this video, how do i get there. Help daddy
Only recently got into lydian backing tracks and that's good A tier when done right but I guess not versatile everyday. Hungarian or gypsy minor and a mix of diminished can make some crazy shit. With Judy's humour I would be shocked if he isn't into cumtown. Agree about the whole tone though. Its can work for 2 seconds in prog but is kinda like if the Lydian scale was in a rush and holding in a shart
This is unironically a better basic tutorial on guitar scales then 99% of every guitarist I've ever met or found online.
We need a tuning tier list
i love c standard so much , i wish weed was real
D Standard, ez mode power chords
@@SlyHikari03 I think you mean drop d or any drop tuning
it would be controversial one
1:50 "The major scale can have some cool sides" *plays in mixolydian*
mixolydian is one side of the major (i personally love mixed lydian and mixolydian in one scale (major with IV# and VIIb)
Possibly the best opener to any video I’ve ever watched
was at Bloodstock this weekend with Megadeth headlining, had the video idea "Big 4 members I could beat in a fight"
0:16 Saul theme song star-

judy talkin shit about music theory is the best thing in the world
I don't know any shit, so i play random notes until something sounds good to me.

Chromatic scale - the only scale that matters 😘
Putting backing music throughout was a bold move.
Glad to see you back, brother, let's get it
I know right this is actually a very good scale explanation

Me with no fucking clue of music theory: ah yes ionian #5 love that one
Play the background music in the room when you're recording so when you play examples you play them in time
Tuning ranking is needed!
My favorite uncle.
Fuck yeah!!!!! New Unc Judy!!!!
Spelling phrygian with an I was a bold move.
Dude i seriously walked away from this feeling like i learned something useful. Obviously it was that uncle judy dont like pp in da butt.
I really only use locrian as a shape to play natural minor in, which is kinda a paul gilbert thing sort of
Melodic minor for that tonic is Am6
Where he gone
15:25 @Tremonti~Betray Me
It’s strict cause it is the mother scale 😉🚩wouldn’t have modes without the major or minor scale
make technical death metal uncle judy

dorian S as it should be, no one's surprised
Buckethead makes the whole tone scale weirdly awesome but for the most part I agree cringe
The whole tone scale is for the simpsons and the simpsons only 😂
UA-cam shadow banning you dood! You should be at half a mil by now
5:25 how old are you?
Master of puppets scale.
I've never been so triggered by a tier list
Перший!
Pretty douchey
I've been playing guitar for close to 30 years and have no idea what you are talking about.
two uncle judy videos in almost a single month !? am i in heaven
Fr uncle boobie's spoiling us
Genuinely seeing improvement in Judy’s guitar playing after him not being around for half a year
You need Hungarian minor (6th mode of double harmonic major) for any Belá Bartok sheet music analysis.
Major scale is hands down the most important! Its the basis of everything.
Uncle boobie
Can't get demonetized today: shows video of national tragedy
Great video, forgot to add Nickelodeon mode
I agree major scale is very mary had a little lamb
had no idea you were still here.
Also lydian dom is tits, study Josh Homme cause of that reason alone.
My fav is chromatic scale cause it's the only scale I won't play wrong notes
You’re getting me through college judy, thank you
I knew you were gonna hate the whole tone scale
i could say i needed this, but i wont
16:27
I genuinely learn so much from watching your videos
Im starting a private highschool for music and play guitar, but like. How the fuck do i get better at guitar dude. Im at the intermediate lvl rn but the theory and feel you use in this video, how do i get there. Help daddy
Algo boost comment. Will edit once I have time to watch.
What about the chromatic scale?

I lost mine to a white Lydia 😶
You should rank scale lengths next
the very first Chord in this whole video made me think you were gonna meme and play the better call Saul intro while doing Lydian
This is important. Someone is pretending to be Seth on insta and asking people for money. I sent you screenshots on insta
