DJI Mini 3 Pro MY RANGE ISSUES ARE FIXED NOW?! But New Problems LOL!

- Thank you so much to all of you who watched my last DJI Mini 3 Pro video regarding the transmission issues I have been experiencing with my drone - issues that many of you have also had. Well, wouldn't you know, along with the new DJI Fly app update 1.6.8 has come a new firmware update for the Mini 3 Pro also (v01.00.0200)!
The update includes the following note, "Optimized the anti-interference ability and the transmission distance of the image transmission system". Does this mean our issues have now been fixed??
Well, finally I am able to get out again thanks to the rain taking a break, in order to test out the alleged improvements!

You can swipe on the controller to calibrate RC compass, then do compass calib. On drone again, and it should work. Also when you point toward drone, that blue dot on map will go green indicating your properly pointed at drone for best signal! Happy flying.
@@RoyGNH Same as I've been saying. I've had to do it on RC Pro a few times and ALWAYS do it on a drone that was shipped in multiple vehicles, airplanes etc. from halfway around the world 🌎
Hi Simon,. Actually, I had no problems at all. Everything is perfect so far. Not even I had do a calibration. It makes so much more fun now. Yesterday I took an incredible low light picture. All that from a tiny done. Normally I am only flying VLOS but of course I wanted to know. I returned after 1.5km without signal lost.
Have you calibrated the controller compass?

Your range test is fully inconclusive as you only flew what 600 m out. They’re claiming 12 km range. From what I actually saw on your screen recording was you were in fact at the point where you were going to start experiencing range issues at 600 m. Video shows that the range issue is not fixed. Were you afraid to fly a little further and show that there would be range issues still with this drone? Don’t be afraid to upset dji.

The mini 3 pro has been a great drone but by far the most problematic for me of any drones over the years. Somewhere along the line dji released a firmware update that neutered the drone's performance in the wind. There is some kind of new battery current protection programming, where when you start leaning into the wind it just cuts power and goes full brake, but you're still holding forward on the stick, so then it goes full power into the wind again, then full brake, etc. It does this ridiculous pendulum back and fourth as it barks and chops loudly at the air, which is SURELY even more strain on the battery and motors. It makes very little forward progress in doing this. The worst part is, sometimes this is happening when you're trying to get the drone back home at the end of a flight! I have to see-saw back and fourth like a sailboat into the wind and get really close to the ground (or the trees) to try and get back. Then the camera quit focusing on me so I had to exchange it through dji care express. Now the new unit has about half the range of the old unit, still has the wind issues, but now I can't get close to the ground to get away from the wind because I lose transmission. Pretty frustrating piece of equipment to work with. The enterprise drones that I have absolutely blow it out of the water on signal strength even though on paper they have very similar transmission numbers. I have to be standing right there holding it's hand to get any work out of it, but it has great battery life!

Here in the States with my Mini 3 Pro, I've gotten to as much as 5 miles away, before the low +battery RTH engaged.
I haven't been experiencing any problems with range at all, even on the original firmware was able to get well over 2km without any bars dropping, maybe as im in a FCC region. Glad they fixed the problem for you, can gear how happy you are!

Well I had no issues with range but after latest fw (.201) and dji-rc I froze while shooting vertically (no screen recording or focus track. Just flying around less than 100m away) and the dji rc froze and I couldn’t tell if the controls were even working but luckily RTTH worked and I saved the drone. So please do check vertical mode shooting and seems I’m not the only one with this issue with latest fw.

I wouldn’t get too excited 600m is but a small fraction off the advertised maximum range off 12km.
Hi Simon. Sorry I'm late to the party. Since you were getting a High Wind Warning and a notice that your return to home wouldn't work under those conditions, it is likely your Home Point wasn't being updated because there would be no Auto RTH. Let's see what DJI has to say about that. You were astute for noticing that the Home Point hadn't been updated. Many, (including me), probably wouldn't have noticed. Keep up the great work !
its flying well with the new firmware but i did get a couple of stutters earlier even with full transmission and only at 240 metres away after that it was fine

Hi mate try calibrating the controller compass by swiping down from the top of the screen where you can see the WiFi Bluetooth icons et cetera and click on the cog icon in the top right hand corner of the screen the you will see the option to calibrate the controller compass.
Was having a problem with blue controller icon only showing up on maps sometimes, and signal detection arrow pointing wrong way if it did appear. Calibrated my DJI RC, which I didn't realize you could do, and it seems to have fixed the issue
Would love to see some videos of shots, and places. Not just an update from the latest version, each day. If you do then save up everyday and make one video with each days rest of the versions lol would like some scenic videos of where you live! Looks beautiful out there
Sorry I missed if you said you’d done this, but calibrate the RC. Go outside, swipe down, hit that weird little shape (hexagon or pentagon I think) in the top right near the clock. Scroll down to RC calibration then follow it. That sorted mine out. I had another way worse issue after this to do with screen freezing during flight. In fact entire app was freezing and had to bring it back like that. But after trying tens of things, I think I figured out the problem was that the SD i’d left in the RC during update needed a complete re-format in the controller. Done 3 flights since and no problem. If you had an sd in there for the update but haven’t recorded much video onto the drone yet in flight, I’d do that before you do. I think this is because its cacheing on the controller when you record on the drone.

You need to be very very careful after an update to test out everything b4 doing any serious flights. I made this mistake with the mini 1 and it started doing some crazy stuff almost lost it. They change things. After my update on the 3 I could not get messages to auto unlock geofencing. Imagine if i was on a paid gig?
You wouldn't be taking that on a paid gig after an update
Not sure you did this, but after update you need to power down Drone and Controller.
I've had bad luck with my Mini3 pro since the start
1- right back motor stuck and managed to free it with some lubricant
2-fogging lens. Had to remove front glass hit record to get moisture out and glue back the glass
3- now complete disconnection 50-100m away. The screen freezes and aircraft auto RTH I have no control stick over the aircraft whatsoever until it's just 4m height from where it took off. I have not been able to resolve this issue. Downgrade upgrade both app and firmware the problem persist. So now my only option is to buy a replacement aircraft.
The best mini in my opinion is the Mini 2. Not once had a problem with it .
The mini 3 pro is plaguing with issues. They never added a cooling fan to cool down the electronics especially the image transmission module.
From all of this it puts me off to even buy a Mini 4 pro
This update completely fixed my compass but hasn't had much noticeable increase in signal or range. It looks like you may just need to calibrate the RC compass (swipe down and enter the RC settings) While my range isn't great - slightly worse than my Mini 1 - it wasn't as bad as disconnecting at 130 meters. It looks like some units had issues with selecting wifi bands which this update fixed. I think the Mini 3 just has poor range in general compared to other recent DJI drones. Not sure if that is a fix with further firmware or a hardware issue.
Yep, my band issue was fixed with this firmware update - as to the overall range seeming somewhat less, perhaps DJI will be working on this next (unless as you say it is an inherent hardware limitation in which case perhaps not much they can do now).
So many issues with the mini 3 have kept me with my mini 2 🥲
Simon I like watching your videos as well as others, but do you ever fly your drone for a purpose as in taking videos and pics or is it just used for range test and connection test
For UA-cam mostly tests, guides and things of that nature. I did do some relaxing flight videos with the Mini 2 last year, but nobody seemed interested so keep those to myself now :)

I sadly have the same arrow pointing the wrong way issue which is so annoying and not sure how they can fix it.
My range is still worse than my mini 2 was so remain disappointed with it in comparison and wishing I still had my mini 2! Why is your signal improved and mine hasn’t? Very odd ?
There does seem to be some mixed results based on the comments I am reading, kinda strange tbh not sure why that is but hopefully DJI are on the case.
@@SimonsDrones it's not DJI doing anything. The controllers compass needs to be calibrated. It in the Android settings, not DJI Fly.
Same happened to my compass. When I put in another battery it started working. So there a bug in the compass. YOU HEAR 👂 THAT DJI.
I have DJI Mini2. New version of DJI Fly is reseting compass calibration, I have noticed that on Samsung S10 and Oppo Reno 5. You only need go to Google Maps and calibrate it.
Not sure if anybody else has noticed this, but there is a battery update for every battery that you put in the drone.
I just had the Fly More kit turn up today, so will keep an eye out on my next flight when I switch batteries thanks!
Hi Simon ,I bought the mini 3 pro on release day in May . I have been totally fed up with the range issues and losing signal also the RC not picking up the phones wifi even with the phone next to it .
Yesterday I have sent it off to DJI repair centre in the Netherlands for them to look at it .
I don’t think anything will change with it and if no improvement I’m at the point of selling it and going back to the mini 2 .
Feel totally let down with this drone .
Oh no, that does not sound good at all :( Hopefully, DJI will be able to fix those problems for you - let us know what happens.

For my unit the difference was really small.
Tested it at the middle of the sea, and the range was around 2.2 km. (didnt fly all the way till disconnection, instead till heavy transmission lag and 1 bar of signal)
Now doing the same flight after the update and stopping just before disconnection I got 2.5 km.
I guess there is a minor difference for me, but not really
Far from the rated 10km....
I know from your previous videos that you seem to have a lot of compas problems. I never had them. Have you tried flying from a different location and see if the problem persists?
Well they did seem resolved before this update lol. I am going to try re-calibrating the actual controller next time I fly to see if that helps.
@@SimonsDrones I saw another UA-camr who needed to re-calibrate his RC so I think that might be what you need. Let us know if that fixes the issue. And thanks for your content.

Hi I'm in Canada so it should be FCC
I now even tried the rcn1 controller and seemed to be doing a better job slightly almost not that noticible better than the RC but still had lots of signal issues after 300 to 400 feet I lose connection.
Also the transmission tap I only see he auto / manual that is greyed out and can't choose. There is no frequency tab on my controller 1.6.8 v latest update
My signal is stuck at 2.4 GHz and doesn't change
I think th drone and or the controller might be a lemon at this point
I have heard a few people having this issue, for me it was the opposite (being stuck on 5.8Ghz). Hopefully, DJI work on fixing your problem next!
Watch some other videos on you tube and you’ll get an update on the compass on the new updated app.
Have you tried calibrating the compass (on the controller, not the drone). You swipe down from the top of the rc screen then tap the cog in the top right. If you scroll through the list of things "calibrate compass" is now in that list. Select that then follow on screen prompts. Basically turn it around horizontally then vertically. Mine was off like yours but after calibrating the rc it now seems accurate finally. I think DJI still have some way to go in terms of firmware updates till the M3 performs as well as the M2 imo.

@@SimonsDrones If that doesn't fix the problem do a full factory reset on the RC controller. This can be found in the settings. It sounds like the reset which you did but kept your settings didn't fully reset the controller software
@@philip_james I was also having compass issues, after a factory reset I had a battery update.
1 year later and the issue returns -_- updated to the latest firmware (again) - same issue. Signal issues at less than 20cm distance, image transmission loads for a split second, then freezes and give signal error warnings. Terrible drone... I should never have "upgraded" from the Air 2.
When you flew 600 mtr away is did see the compass turn. Has it been fixed?
No, gonna try some more calibrations next time I fly.
Are you flying with normal battery or extended battery. A friend has the extended battery package and after this update he has no problems except for the arrow on the map.
I only have the normal batteries myself.
When I did the 201 update yesterday. The drone shut down after its firmware was done and then the RC firmware was installed, followed by a message telling me that the data was being reset.

I think your drone had it real bad. I got 700 in an urban area. But I was not really testing it hard. CE version in South Africa.

The compass issue is fixed in V01.00.0200 and V01.00.0201. Why don't you calibrate your RC (RM330) Controller? It's in the Android settings. Pull down the settings shade, select the settings icon, and calibrate the compass. Do a compass calibration on your aircraft for good measure. Did you not read the changelog for this FW? 😳
Yes, I did a compass calibration on the aircraft as I said in the video. The update notes said it fixed a compass issue in some scenarios, but with no further details so not sure what you're on about there tbh.
@@SimonsDrones I'm talking about on the CONTROLLER. Go to Android menu - from pull down shade, Compass, Calibrate Compass. I do it fairly often on RC Pro (RM500) and it MUST be done on RC (RM330) that comes with Mini Pro AT LEAST once upon getting shipped from halfway across the world.

Yes, it was 200 then another firmware was released soon after ending in 201.
THE CURRENT FIRMWARE IS NOT A FIX. FFS, You get a few extra meters of range and its fixed. I have been consistently achieving 2.8km with original firmware.

Bottom line is the DJI mini three pro has hardware issues. This is not software related. This is hardware which probably can never be fixed. This issue is so in your face that dji should recall the mini 3. Or the fucking controller which ever may be the culprit.

You will never get what is claimed by DJI. That said, I never even tried to reach 12km here, nor would I care to do so.
My Mimi 2 can go 100% further in the mini 3, so why would I spend double the money for a drone that doesn’t even go 1 km away…?? What’s up with that.
That's on the latest FW? I do suspect DJI have more work to do, but my issues before this firmware were atrocious and now things are much better for me. The Mini 2 is a great drone still in 2022.

Massive waste of money. I was flying a phantom 3 pro years ago with huge range it was far better than the mini 3 Pro and that was using light bridge signal. Very disappointing the mini 3 Pro IMO

My Mavic 3 (non-cine model) initially had terribly long “GPS Lock” times (14+ minutes !)., among many other “glitches”.
After applying the recent firmware patch that supposedly corrected most of these issues, I noticed that the GPS “Lock time”
issue had indeed been corrected . BUT…. I STILL cannot see ADSB warnings despite the fact that my wife has the Air-2S and, while flying with me, she receives many warnings and info while I get NOTHING.

No, here in the UK we can't legally fly further than VLOS and doing so in a UA-cam video only brings out (who I refer to as) the drone police in the comments. This video was about some specific issues that several of us Mini 3 Pro pilots were experiencing regarding the 2.4ghz band not previously working at all (it was completely broken).
