I had an older woman who wanted a newer mower than this John Deere LX277 they had bought new, and I was able to trade a Husqvarna 48" rider for this. It has over 2200 hours and despite a little rust spot on the deck and a busted hood, it still runs and cuts great!

2200 Hours just proves that these older John Deere Lawn & Garden tractors are truly indestructible. And as the old saying goes, "Nothing runs like a Deere!"

I realize it’s two years later, I just came across this video. It makes me appreciate my 05 LX277 and 99 GT235. Both are low hour garage kept machines. Totally reliable, both are excellent tractors. And yes I agree, removing that mulch baffle is a nuisance.

They are great machines. Keep them as long as you can. Thanks for watching!

Hello Casey, I wish that I only knew how many hours that my 165 John Deere has on it.
My former neighbors had the 165 when they purchased the property for some time and used it on a regular basis until the 38 inch mower deck finally rotted out
So, I happened to be off work one morning in which my neighbor was getting her newspaper and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time - She asked me if I would be interested in the John Deere. Not only did I get the 165 John Deere tractor, But I also got a #10 John Deere steel lawn cart as well.
I found out that my neighbors had purchased the John Deere from a local guy that used to sell small engine stuff much like yourself. After getting the 165, I watched for a period of time and found a really nice 38 inch mower deck on eBay and have been using my tractor ever since.
No matter how hot or cold it is outside, The tractor starts with no problem whatsoever. Some time or other, I need to replace the plastic hydrostatic transmission fan because the blades are broken off.
I try not to use the tractor very much due to not having the cooling fan - But the tractor is like a Timex watch. Honestly, I don’t think that the new John Deere tractors will last nearly as long as as the 165 John Deere tractor and the upper tier John Deere tractors will last.

That's great, that 165 I had earlier this year was an amazing tractor and had the fan issue just like yours. They last forever!

I've always liked John Deere older tractors. They where definitely built like tanks. Hell everything made today is made to break down. My main rider is a older 94 Dynamark with a Tecumseh engine and 38inch deck, and the thing is fantastic! I do regular maintenance on it and only run non ethanol fuel (Tru-Fuel) it's never once let me down

The last mower you'll ever need to buy. Now that would make a great sales slogan. but considering the customer to be in their mid 60s, and it being their high end model, that ain't saying much. Sure wish they made them like they used to. If it was kept in a garage or shed, that would be one cool frickin mower to own.

It was a good slogan, and with the number of hours this one has and the fact it was kept under a tarp most of its life does say a lot about how well this one was built.

It's a little crusty, it has a few scuffs here and there, yet still runs like a champ.

Pretty much any box store mower is made with crap materials and designed to fail after several hundred hours. Plastic hoods, transmissions, carburetors etc never last very long yet they cost more than a good product. Thanks for the video.

The Kohler twins are good as well as the Command singles. Courage engines are not.

How do you change the oil on it?

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  Рік тому

There should be an oil drain tube on either the left or right side of the engine. You'll see it screwed into the side of the block.

I think if I were u I'd try to fabricate a piece of aluminum or some kinda metal to patch the spot on the deck. It would not take long to fix it I don't think. Just saying!!!!!!!
