    ATTENTION GRASS RATS!!!!!
    I see a lot of comments on my technique of removing the flywheel. Let me inform you that Briggs, Tecumseh & other manufactures have been making tools that require you to either tread onto the shaft or place over the shaft pry up on the flywheel & then hit the end of the tool with a HAMMER to remove it from the tapered shaft. Totally safe & acceptable. On the engine in the video that shaft was machined with a tip on it. So when I hit it I did not screw-up the threads only the machined tip. Had it been threaded I would have used one of those threaded tools that you hit with a hammer. Hope this clears up any concerns.

      +Taryl Fixes All LLC I had to do a swap on my LA130 and your hammer trick was awesome saved me a lot of time. On that swap I found an available motor, swapped a briggs 21hp with the nightmare camshaft problem for a Kohler 17.5 Commander. The Kohler had a manual PTO Briggs had an electronic PTO it turns on an runs but because of your video I know I will have a voltage difference. Any Idea what Kohler stator I will have to purchase to fix this? Thanks Man

      What I usually do is if it has a threaded nut, I thread the nut on by itself until its flush, then do it how you do it. Unless its a 14hp that uses the plastic fan. Then I use a harmonic balancer puller to put tension on the flywheel, then smack it with a hammer. 3.5 and up with a clutch, I do your way, but smack directly on the shaft with a brass or plastic dead blow hammer. I always use a brass hammer on the above engines also, it does the same as the removal tool, protects the crank.

      dave1135. I all ways use a puller because my aim is as bad as Taryls no offence Taryl Dactal ..love your videos thanks...

      The way we do it, is similar, we use a dead blow hammer after removing the fan from the flywheel, and a prybar. Works on everything: Kohler, Briggs, Kawasaki, MTD, Honda, etc.

    Good information!
    After you loosen the crankshaft nut put it level with the crankshaft, then use two pry bars on opposite sides of the flywheel to give the pressure and then hit the top of the nut and the crankshaft with a brass hammer. If it comes off hard at least you won't booger the threads up and possibly save the crank threads.

      +oaktree71able - Go to AutoZone and " Buy " a part that needed the Pulley Puller. Do your Job, then " Return " the part for the refund... That way you can rent the Tool for FREE!!! LMFAO !!!

      Not sure what's up with your Autozone but where I'm at, you just rent the tool you need. They don't ask questions like what you're going to use it for. If yours does, that's weird. Either way, you pay for it up front (deposit) and if you don't return the rental tool, well, you bought it.

      I use this tric me too but on that crank it doesn't have tread on the end of the crank and this end is smaller than
      then the tread too so it have no chance that the nuts not fit after.

    I got me a crap cadet 2138 with ch16s motor. Had to put a new carbonator on it last year cause it wasn’t carbonatin anymore (ethanol in the fuel). Now this year no spark. Them damn meeces chomped on my coil wires and the SAM spark module crapped out - no power to the coil. The “better” “improved” module is supposed to show up today. All one unit. I hope the kroller sticker comes with it so I can have one, just like you have.

    I am working on a Murray Select. I gave $40 for it. It had no engine. But I had a old Briggs opposed twin. I put it on wired it up and it ran good. I went to put the hood on and found it was about 4 inch to tall. I had another Briggs 13.5. I bought a carb. coil and did a valve job. Put it on and it ran sweet. And the hood fit on perfectly. A couple days later I tried to start it and it would not start. Spun over way to easy. Hooked up my compression tester. No compression. The valve seat in the block came out. I saw your video on how to fix that, But I know with my luck that would come back to bite me in the ass. I had another Briggs a 15.5 engine. Put it on and all the wires matched up. All I had to do was plug them in. So I put the hood on and it seemed to fit. I got the bolts in. But when I went to raise the hood the bottom hits the muffler. At this point I have already spent more money on it than I will get out of it. Not counting all the work I have done. I suppose I can make up some brackets for the hood. And then start on the mowing deck. At first this was kind fun. But now, not so much.

    another great video. thanks for posting. I just swapped an older Honda GCV160 engine onto a Honda HRN216 deck. it worked, but the 160 engine's pulley was a little lower than the GCV170 engine and I think it's putting more tension on the belt as the wheels want to go without engaging the Smart Drive lever. I adjusted the cable as loose as i could, and it helped a lot, but the wheels still spin forward without the drive being engaged. Any way to make the cable even looser than the turnbuckle will allow? i HAD to use the pulley on the older engine because the blade adapter would not budge and I didn't want to ruin the motor trying to get it off. wheel puller didn't help.

    My dad passed away in dec 2016 and he had a crapsman gt5000 lawn tractor my sister had scrapped (it was rusted out and trannie was worn out.)
    I pulled the krohler cv22 out along w harnesses and pto and took it home. . 4 yrs ago.
    I kept her warm n dry. Just so happened I came upon a nice jd L120 for only 100 Bucks that had a blown intec twin w crank case blown out yes it exploded piston exited stage left...
    Now the shaft diameter and length pulley line up and muffkin didn't jive.
    Cut 1/2in off drive pulley flipped it and added ring created from cut made placed it on top then slid on the pto and it lines up perfectly. Heated and bent exhaust flanges on pipes from intec and they mounted into muff box well. Torqueddown and then wired up.
    It had good compression at 126 and leakdown was 95ish percent but no fire on left cylinder. Bad coil. Ordered from eBay along w new airfilter. Added diodes to kill lines to coils to keep any dc voltage getting to em.
    Had to also modify the pto lock brace and belt guide plate.
    Can't wait to get it running. Its a nice heavy tractor

    12.2v, dropping to 12.0v with the PTO on, seems a little low. I like to see 13v or more on a car alternator under a load, maybe mowers are different?

    • @robertb6120
      @robertb6120 4 роки тому +1

      me to i was thinking that alternator was bad shed be between 13.5v to 14.5v. if its 12.2v you turn on PTO an its 12.0v and you have lights so it be 11.whatever the batter would go dead. So id say that's a bad alternator. And its not good to jump start a mowers it can destroy the charging system can burn up the alternator. that batter is dead so the alternator over work to charge that dead batter. so its best to charge the batter or go an buy a new batter a cheep one at Walmart $25.00 with a cor batter.

    i had 2 mid 90's simplicity broadmoors. one with a crapped out hydro gear tranny and another with a ailing vtwin briggs. i put the 15 hp kohler (from the one with bad tranny) onto the one that had the bad briggs engine. all seemed to go well for a year then the motor would die after cutting for 30 minutes.turning off pto would help it run again. i cleaned the flywheel area where the stator /alternator resides and all seemed well for some months. . now it dies after 20 30 minutes and only runs again after cooling down for an hour or two.i have put a new fuel pump& filter on, new fuel lines, enlarged fuel cap vent slightly, swapped interlock module from other mower along with solenoid. when i cleaned flywheel it was charging. ive cleaned carb and put new needle in but not the valve seat. (didnt come with kit.) when it dies and i loosen carb bowl nut there is fuel. when it dies and i put starting fluid in carb it runs till starting fluid is used up. could it be: 1. stator shorting out when hot 2. needs valve seat and another cleaning of carb. 3. a fuel shutoff line was on 16 hp briggs and not now (not sure if it had one tho) 4. valves need adjusting
    i know ur busy but thought i'd try Bob

    Hey Taryl I did and engine swap from a 24 HP Briggs intek to Briggs 24hp professional I think it’s the same but this has a automatic choke carb the old one had choke and throttle . I did do the governor trick but it seems the same . these carbs can’t be adjusted , I turn in the screw but it revs to high it won’t come back down when i throttle back to idle. So I have to back it out to stock . the old intek 24 hp had so much power this new one pisses it’s pants it has no power if the lawn is a little high . let me know if you got and tricks for a 24hp Briggs pro , ps it’s on a craftsman dys 4500 42 in deck if you need engine number I have it , i also have engine number of old one . I changed belts like in the video and everything you said in video ok thanks for your time.

    I love your clear and concise videos on these repairs. So many folks get $crewed by shady repairmen. Would you have a video on removing the blower from a J/D snow blower. Ours is a 1330se 342 cc machine. One of the four tines on the blower wheel is actually bent backwards probably from a bag of newspaper ads that was buried under the snow at the bottom of our driveway last winter. It actually stalled the engine which was at full throttle at the time. I just noticed the bent tine recently while replacing a broken shear pin. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge and skill with us. I certainly appreciate it.

    Great video. I just wished you would've gone into a little more detail about the wiring. I'm a dummy when it comes to wiring. But, none the less, I'm doing the same thing right now. And have gotten to the wiring part of this. My question is, the single cylinder 19hp (OHV) engine that blew, had an electric PTO. The V twin i'm replacing it with, doesn't. Can I use the alternator from the single, on the V twin? If so, then I'm in luck. If not, then I don't get no dinner. Please feed a starving man Taryl.

    Taryl Fixes All LLC one question on the engine swap.. I'm trying to install a 13.5hp Briggs flat head motor on a older snapper H-vac... The 13.5hp Briggs is on a older craftsman mower and the mower has a few safeties on the engine... The older snapper does not... Can i bypass the safeties on the motor or do i need to figure out how to install the safeties on the older snapper... Thanks in advance

    Tayrl, I have watched a ton of your videos and as I watch, you bust out some TidBit on the motor or carb. adjustment that is something you can only know with experience. So I file it away in my noggin only to need that TidBit a month or two later and can't find that info. I think we need "Taryl's TidBit's"

    I did an engine swap. (Kohler Cv15s to a different Cv15s) I didn’t mark the wires like an idiot. I couldn’t get the flywheel off the good engine block so I chopped the wires that go to the stator and soldered them onto the other wiring harness. Now I think I got them wrong and it sparks every time I go to plug in the volt regulator. What do I do?

    Hi, I inherited a walk behind weed trimmer, the kind with the 2 big wheels in the back. The motor is shot, would it be a simple R&R? Will I need to find a motor with a cast iron flywheel or will the pulley compensate? We all know what happens when you try to start a lawn mower without a blade. I'm thinking of putting a Lawnboy engine for ditches will that work? Thanks

    • @TarylFixesAll
      @TarylFixesAll  8 років тому

      That mower requires the engine with the heavy flywheel. pressure washers use an engine with the heavy flywheel but the shaft might not be long enough. I don't know if a 2-cycle lawnboy engine would work but its worth a try.

      Thanks you're exactly right about the power washer shaft, I've seen some old roto tillers that used a vertical shaft engine that might work. Is it possible to swap the flywheel with a similar motor?

    I live in southern France and I have a john deer 108 with a 8 hp Briggs and Stratton in it, which is fading fast. I also have a Briggs 12.5 motor from a 2005 tractor that is in great shape. Will it fit? can you tell me what I will have to change and do to make it work? The pto clutch is new on the 108, can I use it on the 12.5 or will I have to get a new one? Any info is greatly appreciated as no one here will tell you anything without payment! Love your video's!!! Thank You.

    • @JodBronson
      @JodBronson 6 років тому

      +Les Howard - Check the " Mount Holes ", if they are the same, it will fit. You can also " Drill " the Holes to make it fit. NOTE: The Muffler need room too, check that also! 8HP verses 12.5HP is NOT that different, it should do fine.... ONLY ROOM.... So MAKE SURE YOU GOT THE ROOM!!! NOTE 2: if your PTO is the SAME SHAFT SIZE.... YOU can mount it easily :)))

    • @JodBronson
      @JodBronson 6 років тому

      +Les Howard - I have swapped an 8HP with a 12.5HP before. I used the OLD Muffler.... It just stuck outward instead. The 8HP Muffler is straight up... The 12.5HP Briggs, it's side-way. So if you got the Room.... It will fit!

    • @tonyfremont
      @tonyfremont 4 роки тому

      Parts diagrams for similar setups. PTO takes a good amount of juice, head lights a close second. I doubt there are very many alternators to choose from. Make sure you use the right regulator so you don't overload it.

    • @JodBronson
      @JodBronson 6 років тому

      +Pete Lorenzo - Better off without them. They invented the " Fuel Solenoid " for LAZY People or People don't shut off for Winter Storage, etc, make more money out of you!!!.... Just get a " Manual " Fuel Shut Off Valve and you will be good. Sometimes that " Solenoid " can give you a lot of headaches... If there is no power or when bad.... You will pull all your hair out trying this and that, to get the Motor running. So, in the end... You better off without them!
