This guy always has more & better information than other channels when it comes to working on a lawn mower.
Taryl, I'm siting here watching your show, enjoying the humor reminiscing about how my good buddy of 43 years and I watched your shows and we laughed. He's the one who got me watching you. He passed away 4 months ago, but your videos keep a little bit of him alive. Thanks, man.
acoustic4037 Sorry to hear that! May your friend Rest In Peace. Thank you for watching. 🙏
Found you through STEVE ROBS Channel. I have been a Marine Mechanic for 30 years. Like your Show and how you teach some of us dumb people how to fix it well. Funny and informative. Best Channel i have seen on small engines. Good Job and keep Wrenching. Oh and on Flywheel's, Tell them all to screw off. If you take it off and nothing breaks it's Good.lol
Outstanding video. Didn't realize all the considerations that have to be taken when doing a swap. Very helpful. Also, I was very happy to see Mr. Testlight make an appearance again!
As usual your videos are short and to the point, with no unnecessary blabber-jabber, a true pleasure to watch. I just don't like when you get all technical. Keep up a good work and don't be so hard on jr. I have a soft spot for him
im practically tearing up as he tosses out "Kroler" and "Briggs and Scranton" and then right when Im about to fold over laughing he directs us to the "Mufkin"!!!.. priceless!
Thanks guys another informative video. I laughed at Ronnie being thrown over the fence very funny😂. Regards from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank You, I appreciate your advice & I'm recommending your videos to friends who also have small engine issues.
+luvkountry Thanks!
As usual your videos are very informative and educational and funny as heck. I love the humor and the skits you add to them which brings you way above the rest of youtube videos making them more interesting and fun to watch. I watch you every day and learn more each time I watch them. It seems that you have been doing this for a very long time and I would consider you as a master mechanic in your trade. Like any other trade they make thousands of models and types and you have to learn how to work on them all. Keep up the funny side we all love the hillbilly skits and the humor of your family in the videos. Take care Taryl and Please don't stop a great thing.
Hi Taryl, I enjoy your videos, informitive, easy to understand and funny. I have an old
Ariens EZR zero turn. 14ohv briggs single cylinder went bad after 12 years so i decided to install a 17hp briggs opposed twin. swap went great and would not of been as successful without your bit on the charging system in this video. Thanks
Love your videos, educational & entertaining. The guy holding the coffee cup the whole time & the bubba teeth etc. Lol
Changing out my JD Vanguard for a Harbor Freight Predator. Wish me luck. You gave me a ton of confidence. Thanks Taryl!
Wow, that's gettin into some serious stuff there bud. Thanks for the info!
I've been watching you guys a long time and you're so funny and I enjoy your humor and you're so good at your craft I've learned a lot from you thank you keep it going please
ATTENTION GRASS RATS!!!!!
I see a lot of comments on my technique of removing the flywheel. Let me inform you that Briggs, Tecumseh & other manufactures have been making tools that require you to either tread onto the shaft or place over the shaft pry up on the flywheel & then hit the end of the tool with a HAMMER to remove it from the tapered shaft. Totally safe & acceptable. On the engine in the video that shaft was machined with a tip on it. So when I hit it I did not screw-up the threads only the machined tip. Had it been threaded I would have used one of those threaded tools that you hit with a hammer. Hope this clears up any concerns.
+Taryl Fixes All LLC I had to do a swap on my LA130 and your hammer trick was awesome saved me a lot of time. On that swap I found an available motor, swapped a briggs 21hp with the nightmare camshaft problem for a Kohler 17.5 Commander. The Kohler had a manual PTO Briggs had an electronic PTO it turns on an runs but because of your video I know I will have a voltage difference. Any Idea what Kohler stator I will have to purchase to fix this? Thanks Man
you failed to sike me because i had no idea what your saying
What I usually do is if it has a threaded nut, I thread the nut on by itself until its flush, then do it how you do it. Unless its a 14hp that uses the plastic fan. Then I use a harmonic balancer puller to put tension on the flywheel, then smack it with a hammer. 3.5 and up with a clutch, I do your way, but smack directly on the shaft with a brass or plastic dead blow hammer. I always use a brass hammer on the above engines also, it does the same as the removal tool, protects the crank.
dave1135. I all ways use a puller because my aim is as bad as Taryls no offence Taryl Dactal ..love your videos thanks...
The way we do it, is similar, we use a dead blow hammer after removing the fan from the flywheel, and a prybar. Works on everything: Kohler, Briggs, Kawasaki, MTD, Honda, etc.
Thanks Taryl Im getting ready do a engine swap in my shop, I will be referring back to this video many times Im sure !
Tra Z torsional
Love it when Ronnie goes flying over the fence 😂
Enjoyed this video, learned a ton, Thanks for sharing.
I find myself watching his videos all the time lol. They are funny and very good info
Damn! i can atest the fact that you know what you are doing, but damn, if i would talk like you with my clients i would go bankrupt in no time lol. Best channel ever. I don't know why didn't i find it earlier....
Always enjoy your video's Taryl.Put a smile on anyones face :)
This episode needs to be nominated for the Golden Globes and fall under best lawnmower repair drama.
Lol it probably gets people interested in fixing lawnmowers, that have no desire to otherwise.
HoooWee, You're like lighning with that hammer....Never strikes the same place twice.:) I been waiting a long time to use that joke. Your channel is great.
Very informative..... and also entertaining. That what I need early in the morning.
Great video as always I’m looking forward to making this engine swap now thanks
Not sure what the sam hell I just watched but I watched the whole thing and need more lol
"psych!!!!" . that was solid country gold !!!!
Yup lol! He got me good with that one!
love your vids Tim they have been a great help
I ran into a problem with the hood as well, I used the original hood, I just made 3 inch extensions to raise the hood went from a 12 horsepower Briggs to a 25 horsepower V twin Kohler. Nothing like doubling your horsepower 😊
man i love your videos its so helpful there's your dinner
Since i subscribed to your channel i have learn how to make my lawn mower run again.. gracias
I have a Simplicity Regent 38 with the infamous Kohler Courage 18 HP engine. To be honest it has been running well and has just now started to occasionally kick back when starting, I am assuming the Exhaust Valves is not consistently releasing during the start. After watching you videos and some others I plan to pull things apart and put Loctite on the upper case bolts, take care of the leaking Valve Cover Gasket Etc. My question is if it turns out to be too much to do and I decided to replace the motor what would you suggest. Seems like they all have cheap build issues. My owners manuals came with the books for both the Kohler and Briggs, just not sure which Briggs. Is there any whee to cross reference which motor will bolt up on the Simplicity Tractor?
Good video- you made it look very easy. Thanks.
Thanks Taryl. Lots of good info.
is the spring here yet! in Toronto we have got a total of 4 inches of snow this winter, how is everyone else's winter going down there? not great for biz, thanks for keepin me motivated fellas!
One Carbatrator at a time!
+Murphy Small Engines Been bad here also No snow & if it does it's gone fast.
You got me good when you said you did not know where them wires went
Ya you Did, great swap man, cheers brother
i have a questio..? if i do a swap on a kohler 17.5 to a 22 do i have to change the thing on the bottom of the flywheel and replace it with the kohler
I need your help. On my stihl br380 the bearing spin and start leaking gas from under the bearing . What can I do to fix the problem.
I love your clear and concise videos on these repairs. So many folks get $crewed by shady repairmen. Would you have a video on removing the blower from a J/D snow blower. Ours is a 1330se 342 cc machine. One of the four tines on the blower wheel is actually bent backwards probably from a bag of newspaper ads that was buried under the snow at the bottom of our driveway last winter. It actually stalled the engine which was at full throttle at the time. I just noticed the bent tine recently while replacing a broken shear pin. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge and skill with us. I certainly appreciate it.
+luvkountry If you have a oxygen acetylene torch would be the best way to heat it & bend it back.
Hahahaha You Guys Bring Humor To An Otherwise Mundane Job 😝😝 Thanks Tadaryl For a Good Laugh and Excellent Advice 😀👍🏼
great video man keep it up
is the charging system the same for the twin briggs iam lookin to buy a Husqvarna mower with electric pto but the engine is from a mower without electric pto
Good information!
After you loosen the crankshaft nut put it level with the crankshaft, then use two pry bars on opposite sides of the flywheel to give the pressure and then hit the top of the nut and the crankshaft with a brass hammer. If it comes off hard at least you won't booger the threads up and possibly save the crank threads.
+oaktree71able - Go to AutoZone and " Buy " a part that needed the Pulley Puller. Do your Job, then " Return " the part for the refund... That way you can rent the Tool for FREE!!! LMFAO !!!
Not sure what's up with your Autozone but where I'm at, you just rent the tool you need. They don't ask questions like what you're going to use it for. If yours does, that's weird. Either way, you pay for it up front (deposit) and if you don't return the rental tool, well, you bought it.
I use this tric me too but on that crank it doesn't have tread on the end of the crank and this end is smaller than
then the tread too so it have no chance that the nuts not fit after.
Unless i just missed it ? how do you tell that you need a different charging system, unless your just going by hand in gauge PTO or electric PTO ?
You crack me up😂 Love your videos
I did an engine swap. (Kohler Cv15s to a different Cv15s) I didn’t mark the wires like an idiot. I couldn’t get the flywheel off the good engine block so I chopped the wires that go to the stator and soldered them onto the other wiring harness. Now I think I got them wrong and it sparks every time I go to plug in the volt regulator. What do I do?
What if the scenario was different. Your donor engine briggs is coming off of a tractor that had electric pto, and fuel solenoid shut off. And going on a tractor that never had those. Would you swap the wiring harness also or just omit hooking up the wires you don't need?
Hi I've got a colt rover 5 and the engine is broken do you know what different types of engines I could put on it
verry informative Taryl, liked video
I got a better deal "How about 100% of you go over that fence" lmfao..
Not used to that humor in repair videos.. but it changes things up.
MRSketch09 thanks for watching our zany video. Please check out more and subscribe to our channel!
.That's why i only watch Taryl video's on mowers. Half the time, i just watch these for the great humor. I am Taryl's Australian Half brother.
@@caratcranker5874 Taryl does have a bit of Rodney Rude in him.

Brilliant video thank you ❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Taryl Fixes All LLC one question on the engine swap.. I'm trying to install a 13.5hp Briggs flat head motor on a older snapper H-vac... The 13.5hp Briggs is on a older craftsman mower and the mower has a few safeties on the engine... The older snapper does not... Can i bypass the safeties on the motor or do i need to figure out how to install the safeties on the older snapper... Thanks in advance
Good video. I like the wiring info. I always struggle with wiring so U need all the info I can get.
Hi Tarly just busted my my 318 John Deere onan engine on my garden tractor thinking of getting it re powered what do you suggest I’m not really mechanical but found you very helpful on some of my small engine fixes ,thanx ahead of time.
You people are brilliant thank you❤️👍
I have Intek engine with the separate choke like that. The choke works cuz when it running and I pull the choke it wants to die. But when I try to fire it up. I gotta crank it for a min for it to start up after it sits all week.
Great video!! You should have your own tv show on cable!!!!
Taryl, I have a old Craftsman String brush cutter with a B&S 6hp (122K02-007-E1) that is acting like it is Hydro-Locked, but when I pull the plug and pull it through, no oil comes out. No oil comes out of the muffler either. It is very hard to pull through with the plug in, but easy with the plug out. Any suggestions? Thanks., George Goff
yes good advice!!! many folks out there can benefit from Your videos I sure have!!! keep them coming!!..... many thanks...AAAA++++ .........bob
what are the part numbers of the charging parts and how do I wire it up in detail
I got me a crap cadet 2138 with ch16s motor. Had to put a new carbonator on it last year cause it wasn’t carbonatin anymore (ethanol in the fuel). Now this year no spark. Them damn meeces chomped on my coil wires and the SAM spark module crapped out - no power to the coil. The “better” “improved” module is supposed to show up today. All one unit. I hope the kroller sticker comes with it so I can have one, just like you have.
Awesome mate very good info.
Good job thanks for the info bro

I shall change a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke. Do I have to do something about the rpm. Change the pulleys?
Did you have to have a fuse or a diode that connects the relays to the stater?
I have a cub cadet it had a 22hp kohler and it blew a rod so i put a 20 briggs with a dioide on it so how do i wire it to the cub cadet lt 1045 or can i just run a wire from the dioide to the battery the dioide is putting out 13 something volts is that possible?
Tayrl. Help. I have a wheel horse & it pouring gas out of the carb & I now it is not the float. What could it be.
I have a 78 cubcadet tractor Iam replacing the motor with a brigsastratn 10 horse will it work
Taryl, do you know what size bolt holds the pulley on the briggs and stratton 16 horse? model 311777
I did not see where you explained where the wires came from just before you explained the charging system. I know they came from the starter switch but I don't know how they were connected to the starter switch and what they are connecting to on the starter switch motor.
I picked up a Scott’s L2048 20hp 1” shaft. Crain it had the motor replaced with a 22 hp Briggs ELS 22 HP model 40H777 the shaft is 1.125 I have been trying to figure out is it’s possible to put a1.1125 PTO Pulley on without problems. The new engine runs so dang good I want to use it.
I have a vtwin on john deere that has electric pto. The deck is shot and steering. But I have a toy built with a 17 hp mechanical pto. I want to put the vtwin kn the troy built. Will it work
Hi How do i change a Briggs 19.5 to a Husqvarner. frame is the wireing Different. need Help. mark
can a newer higher amp charge setup fit an older 12.5hp briggs?
How do I set the timing on my V8 from following these destructions?
that's what I forgot.. engine bolts! been riding around my cub with no engine bolts. no problem, sits in there pretty good. wanted to use new bolts, but gotta take the front axle off to get to them.
Could you replace the original vanguard with a predator motor in the lx288?
Do you have any idea what engine I can put on a Kubota ZG327 27 hp gas?
I need some parts off of that Honda HT3813 you've got out in the yard! Mostly the cooling fan! Any way you can sell some parts?
What would the problem be if you turn on the electric clutch and it drains the battery? Thx.
another great video. what setting did you have your meter on to see if the mower was charging thanks for the information .
+MultiChainsaw123 20volts DC
You taught me a lot thanks but do you have any for sale
If the clutch is not the same diameter can you buy another clutch and make it work or have shaft turned down
Hey Taryl, What's the best, easiest swap for a Kolher courage with the electric clutch?
Your a damn riot dude and like the detailed explanations you do while rebuilding different small equipment.
" it didnt need thay fin anyways"😅😅😅😅 I couldnt stop laughing.
Someone please tell me what motor that I replace my Kawasaki FH451V-AS14 4 Stroke Engine FH451V. It on a Great Dane walk behind. Recoil
Hay taryl I don't have a torch to heat a pulley that stuck on the shaft of a Kohler any help any hints the electric clutch came off nice and easy but the pulley above that one she's stuck. Tried gentle persuasion and don't want to bend the hell out of it
12 volts is enough output? I didnt think that would charge the battery.
great video taryl
I think the last flywheel I pulled I used a pry bar and an air hammer. Comes right off.
“I don’t wanna hear your excuses about your bad back” 😂😂😂😂💀💀💀💀💀
hello bud i was wanting to know can i push mowerengine ona rider
You did not show replacing the flywheel. You mentioned that the hold down nut needs to be tight to keep the key in place. It takes approximately 80 pounds of torque to tighten that nut properly. Tell me how did you hold the flywheel in place while you put the torque to the hold down nut... Thanks
Taryl!
I have a 19hp Kawasaki that needs go on my scag that blew a rod through block. but the diameter of crankshaft is different. can I pull the crank from parts mower and put on my transplantee? sounds crazy but I may try it.
oh yea, the one that blew the rod was also a 19hp Kawasaki... that's why I am pondering the crankshaft switch.
thanks
