So here it is, my attempt at Hot For Teacher. There are quite a few people that have taken on this song and even some that have done more than one version. I knew I wanted to try it after I got my double kick pedals for Christmas and it certainly provided plenty of things to practice. The intro is obviously the part that most people think of and it required me to get a lot faster with my herta rudiments but even the fills out of the breaks are uncommon ideas. I enjoyed the challenge, got better along the way and I hope you enjoy this classic Van Halen anthem.
I’m 13 years old and I want to be a drummer when I grow up. I think drummers are cool but I'm a huge fan of girl drummers / female drummers. There are some super good ones on UA-cam that I'd love to be as good as one day. I thought it would help me keep focused if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. Hopefully, I will keep doing it and keep getting better.
This is one of the most epic drum intros of all time and actually you nailed it! You double bass in the entire song is solid like a rock too! Congratulations for making a great cover, girl! ;)

Mia Morris how’d you get the sticking right on the floor tom during the intro?
well, I don't know that I did but, to answer how I learn the covers - I try to find an isolated drum track of the song which there are more and more of on here and I might watch a tutorial if it's a pretty complicated song. The main thing I have used from the beginning is a phone app that lets me slow down a song and listen. You can't move it very far before it turns to mush but it can help decipher fills, There are a bunch of them out there but I use audipo on a little tablet that sits on my music stand. I didn't know about isolated drum tracks until the last 6 months or so, so it was mostly by ear and slowing things down.
Mia Morris you nailed a really tough part. Alex VH is one of the truly underrated rock drummers of all time and this was his best track in my opinion.
I've heard a lot of drummers in my time. You nailed it solid. Great cover and awesome talent. Keep it up. You'll be great!! Maybe you should do a song called "Keeping up with the Van Halens".
Who in their right mind gives a thumbs down to this? 70% of drummers can't play that intro. Excellent work young lady!

Just for a heads up Tim, I'm a millennial and me and everyone I know in my age group listen to classic rock. 70s and 80s mostly. Our kids love it and really rock to it too. For most of us it's all we've ever really listened to. They quit making good music in the early 90s and we all know it 😄. What I'm saying is, don't lose faith, these classics are more than alive and rockin! (My son is 6 and his favorite band is CCR)
@@ModernGentleman not gonna argue "good" music, but Alice In Chains best album came out early nineties. "Dirt" is undeniably one of the best rock albums to come out of the nineties.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Music is all about expression. The best musicians are the ones who can articulate those feelings through their instrument. Van Halen was a band that was made for having fun. Ed and the gang were constantly smiling while playing. Your performance fits right in with that. A+.

This is the most impressive female drumming performance I’ve ever seen in my life. Her smiles, the drum stick twirl during “I think the clock is slow, I don’t feel tardy”. I miss Mia's drum covers the most. Of course, she has gone on to do more important work in her young music career, but looking back at this earlier time, it's still incredible and enjoyable to watch.
Fun little fact. Phil Hartman (from SNL) was Waldo's voice.
And all Waldo could do after that was go from one fast food joint to another.

I admit I was cringing at the start, expecting a full-on train wreck -- I mean, "Hot for Teacher"? And at just 13 years old? But I have to agree with Fernando -- you absolutely nailed it, note for note. I've auditioned drummers who were already accomplished musicians the year you were born who who don't have the kind of chops you showed there. I mean, most are really good drummers -- some even great drummers -- but you absolutely schooled them on this one. Damn that was smokin', girl. Keep it up.

This drum intro always reminds me of a cammed racing engine, they have a very distinct lope or choppy idle to them, not sure if that was the effect they were trying to achive,, but it works u pretty much nailed it :)

I wanted to Parley this to commemorate the passing of Eddie Van Halen who passed away today at age 65.
This musiciann, singer, songwriter Mia Morris hails from Nashville, Tennessee and performed Van Halen's, "Hot for teacher" when she was 13 yo. She's 15 yo now, and is my favorite drummer. Rest in peace Eddie, and thank you Mia Morris.
I am 57 I have not played drums since 2002 but I started playing very young, about your age and was playing pro by 16.always in rock cover bands there was not much out there i could not cover; this is a song I have never been able to play, I have to say in my defense I have never tried to practice it either and I never played in a band that had it as cover but you are putting a lot of ole drummers to shame here! super awesome job; never stop practicing! (do as I say, not as I do!)
