Lovely!
I was born in 1970, and at five or six years old
I couldn’t understand why every adult didn’t have a Holden panelvan.
Hi I used to own one in 94 back them there were only 2 or 3 in the whole country was it originally blue OVE IT
I have a 1977 ss torana hatchback in Persian sand. Has a 308/355 stroker turbo 400 box. I'm 52 .I'll never part with it. Sentimental value is worth more than money as it takes me back to happier times and a happier free living country
Years ago l built an LX for my gf, 202 XU1 motor with a powerglide. Smoked the tyres easily. I forget how many tyres and diffs l replaced. Painted it persian sand ( she chose the medium tint because persian sand comes in 3 shades, from dark, medium and almost gold). We both loved it. Neither are in my life anymore....
.. l only miss the car.🤣
A country of free living, you're spot on, We had a 1974 sandman and unfortunately my husband sold it 😢
❤ Really cool cars from Australia
Absolutely gorgeous! i do like resro mods but this thing is immaculate!
i tip my hat to the owner & everyone involved in this build 🙂
What a beautiful van , I’d buy it in a heartbeat if it wasn’t on the other side of the world ...oh and if my wife said I could of course 😬
I grew up in the 1970s. My father would only ever buy German and later Japanese. I was always mortified. Looking back he contributed to Holden's demise. It's important we keep hold of these old Holden's as they're apart of our history. A reminder of what we were once capable of which was local manufacturing. You don't appreciate what you had until it's gone
I had a 73 hq windowless panel van, 253 auto , had it for 20 yrs , sold it 20yrs ago for $500 , still kicking myself
just stunning, absolutely beautiful restoration.
I love the sandman,
Especially that one from mad max,
Also big fan of the 253.
Love the sound of the 253.
get ya hearing checked....253, piece of shit motor
@@thebob3712 Obviously never owned one.
@@fitzyholden1036 why waste time and money on a 253, I had a 308 monaro and yeah, Id never owned a 253 belmont panelvan
@@thebob3712 I have four old Holdens, one with a grey, one a 186S, one a 253 and another with a 383. Love driving every one of them, its all Holden history.
Bloody Awesome and Beautiful mate, I'm bloody stunned!!!! 👍👌✌🐾🐺
I know a guy in Arino that has the last of the Sandmans. He got a Turbo 350 & Chev 10 bolt from the dealer in Freo.
Love just watching these these car👍
Here in Australia these Sandmans seem to be very much associated with sex. Every time these cars come up in conversation, it always leads to "they're good for shaggin". It must've been a very common use for these.
If this van's a rockin',
don't come a knockin'
It was very common in mine js
I miss the 70's muscle cars...my cousin owned a Sandown and had a statesman front end fitted plus a fully worked 308 engine...and yes the girls would open their legs just to be seen in it...memories...
Sandman
had my first root in one in 1981 👍👍👍
Relive the days of rust.
Cool opening guys 😎👍
looks fully restored! ile take it
mate! made the same year i was born, we are a holden family, its green , its v8 , you can go camping in it , and use it for work , its the do all machine!
@@goldtutch Did you ever stop to think that you might have been conceived in one?
The 253 was a great motor.
"If she's rockin, dont come knockin"
I owned a HT 253 4 speed in Gwen with the purple Sandman Strips. Regret the day l sold it. 😭😢.
I had extractors on it with a 350 Holley & a killer stereo system.
Gr8 👀👀 Vehicle 👍👌
Passion wagons,go hard!
Its not a passion wagon.... its a shaggin' wagon..!!.
Wow, never seen a HQ sandman, looks like it never left the showroom
Its not a sandman, its just a premier hq. The sandmans were HZ
@@nedkelly8633 sandman’s were made from hq through to hz
@@nedkelly8633 Sorry , You are wrong. Sandman vans started in HQ.
@Barry Barry Holden never made a Kingswood Panel Van, only Kingswood's in utes.
Man, why are you selling this brilliant machine, you are going to regret it , I have had a HR Premier ute and a VE G8 ute which i have sold and regretted it every day . One ended up on the scrap heap, the other in Perth. Once its gone ,its a sad day thereon. The hard work and sourcing of parts you have put into this beauty is priceless. Hope you get $100,000 for it so as it is not wrecked, best of luck on your sale.
My mate in high school had a red one with whote sandman decals down the side sure he would be upset he sold it as my mate with a black HQ Monaro.
I am from the NT and I feel like getting one, there's one for sale in darwin
Basically brand new.
I should buy it. I was born in the 3rd month 1974. 😅
Aahh good old fck truck don't see them anymore like you use too, they were popular 😊
Love it
My mate has a 76 Sandman with a 308 5 speed gearbox heaps of fun no it's def not for sale.
If the van's a rockin then don’t come a knockin 😂
When we young we call this car is fucking car, behind build a beautiful bed room...
@Barry Barry you probably known nothing about the 1980? Ask the people around that time and he owned one of the panel van?
Why the boy call it fucking car etc?
Its a fuck truck what we called it back in late 70s, i got drunk in one a vomited lmao and went to drive in movie
How many times you gotta keep telling us it's fully restored
"Fully concourse restored"
because it's fully restored,, I mean FULLY!
How many of these came with the 350 V8?
had my first root in the back of a hq panel van back in 1981 lol
Did your butt hurt afterwards?🤣
@@weezy6643But hers did.
What was the other blokes name?
@@andrewmurphy7401 LOL classic.
😂😂 😂 👌
The opportunity to own one of these cars is disappearing rapidly as the prices climb. One of the reasons in my humble opinion is because of the sharks masquerading as Specialist / Performance Car dealers jacking the prices through the roof. That is just an opinion based on the trajectory of prices in the last 5 years, I don't believe it to be sustainable.
Corona tax, the whole market is an absolute joke. You'd hope it's not sustainable. However, lots of dumb people out there that will go into debt to show off a car.
Good point Ross
blub Blub blub Blub mamories noice stuf lads
Back in 2001 I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I was at a classic car show out at the trek centre in Tamworth where I'm from originally. On display was a car for sale. It was a two door LJ torana with the roof chopped down giving it a sleeker roofline.its how Holden should have done it originally giving it more of a hatchback rear end without being too radical. Under the bonnet was a worked 308 with a 5 speed supra box. Painted in canary yellow with black interior it was for sale for $10000.Back then still a good buy for the work gone into it. I was tempted but held back. Best of all it was road registered street legal. I'm still kicking myself to this day. And still searching for it.
I don't even want to guess how much they're asking for this thing. Prices of cars in this country are just absolutely ridiculous.
If only it was orange-red but nice
Is it fully restored?
Which ones had 'sandman' across the back door?
HX and HZ
Has it sold?
Not a Sandman, 64yrs young, I saw them on the Show Room floor.
I Still remember seeing the hq sandman at the 74 motor show in Melbourne.
Got my drivers license in a 3 speed column shift 202 cu.in. HQ sedan.
A time when men were men and women weren't.....or to put it another way....in the 70s men were the only ones who had mussels and tattoos.....I miss the simple days!!!.😎
Agree with you on that one mate 👌
160 grand for a 253? wow
Gto judge stripes......
People should be taught from day one not to ride the clutch.
gonna burn out that fully restored clutch if you dont stop using the pedal as a footrest...learn how to drive a manual properly
😂😂😂 I’ve been resting my foot on the clutch for 40 years and never burnt one out yet
I'm a Kingswood man from way back i find it hard to believe a " Belmont " which was a low grade poor mans Kingswood would have a GTS steering wheel, fluted GTS guards and he even half admitted it when he said it didn't come with power steering but was "added" food for thought.
I believe that the none of the Sandman's (ute's or vans) had any chrome badges depicting belmont or kingswood attached when they left the factory .
@@garybailey8877 Well than why did you put one on there i think you missed my point i never mentiond any " Badges " .
It’s sold take the video down,,,,,,,,,
Its a Lion. Stop calling him a "she"
Give ya 50 K
Surfing or work vehicle?your mad
ive got a panal van for sale
Still available mate?

PLEASE do your research, as the Australian Car Corporations blurred the lines by putting performance packages into 4-Door family sedans, mostly through putting premium prices on coupes, and failing to achieve the sales figures.
After all, Australia didn't have a huge huge understanding of drag racing or high speed Stockcar Racing back in the sixties and seventies, or even nowadays.
Muscle-cars began in 1963 with the Pontiac Catalina
and 1964 Pontiac GTO 421ci. Super Duty Big Block.
What does constitute a
MUSCLE-CAR: 2-Doors, a Back Seat, and high performance package.
SPORTS-CAR: 2-Doors, no back Seat and a performance package.
SPORTS SEDAN: 4-Doors and a High Performance package.
Eg;- (Porsche Carrera a sports car, and Porsche Panamera a sports sedan).
'If I'm going to hell, it's in a Sandman'.
