    🧗Bob & Karri are 2 ordinary, 50 somethings that decided to sell everything and say goodbye to traditional living in favor of RV Life. They started making videos for friends and family and posting to UA-cam. After meeting several “UA-camrs” they were disgusted with what they were clued into. They now make videos to dispel all the nonsense and call out FAKE RV LIFE. They share honest advice and a clear love for the RV lifestyle, all with an underlying message that YOU can do this!

      Fulltime RVer 16 years in the same truck and 5th wheel with my pets. Sold my house and everything else to buy my rig with the idea of mostly boondocking with staying power: i.e. large water tank, catalytic heater, and solar power. I may move in a year from the desert to the mountains with 3 or 4 stops along the way. It's the same strategy as country living where you make a trip to nearby town biweekly or monthly. I've never been bored and I can paint, hike with my dogs, or read whenever I wish. It's freedom. 👍😊

    Lived both the nomad and rv full time lives for 6 years now. All these channels make it looks like a full time vacation. When you treat it like that, its expensive and exhausting. Slow down, take the spots in the lesser known parks for weeks or even a month or even months. Its ok to spend a summer in one place. There are ways to make it less expensive then traditional living, but not how the big tubers show how to do it.

      I LOVE my Coleman 2-burner stove that runs on white gas. I usually buy kerosene for it because it's cheap and available here in Reno. I can pitch my tent in the dark or sleep on my cot outside or, in a pinch, sleep inside the bed of my truck. I cannot even imagine paying what these folks pay for campers.

      Anna Uncharted quit vanlife. Mariah Alice quit vanlife. Kels and Jay quit vanlife. Travel Snacks quit vanlife. Christian Schaffer plan to quit vanlife and buy some acres @ Washington. Linnea & Akela bought some acres and start building. Vanlife is fun and interesting first year or two. You change places, move from the forest to the mountains, stop at lakes or look for a parking place. And then you realize that you have already seen all this. All mountains are similar to each other, all forests are similar to each other. Things get even worse if you have a remote job. You can stop in a beautiful place, but you can’t really see anything, because you’re working. And even if you could, you can't leave the van unattended for long. In fact, you have even less freedom in a van than in the city. All you can do is go for a walk, take a photo, swim in the lake and watch TV. Homeless people live "richer" lives.

      @user-mx5kt1wj1e city life ain't all you say it is. I can have my own private theater with kitchen needs sleep needs and toilet needs. With the right set up you could have desk space and a gaming set up. I don't really think homeless people would pass up a nice van home! If a homeless person heard you say that they would slap the skin off your face!

      And it's no good. Many new "vanlifers" bought vans because of bills, they hate vanlife, it's a necessary measure. Another category are "pigs". They buy huge motorhomes, occupy six slots in the Walmart parking lot, run generators 24/7, make fires right in the parking lot and dump black water into the nearest bushes. That's why there are signs "No overnight parking" everywhere now.

In the truck I learned to be self sustaining with everything I needed other than running water. I’m in the process of building out my recently purchased 17ft box truck including four wheel drive. Can’t wait to get back out there. I won’t be a UA-camr but certainly will harvest all the info. Those people didn’t enjoy it because they made it to be work.

    My wife and I went with your life change in 2006. We stayed on the road for 17 years working around the Western US and Snow Birding in Apache Junction, AZ. It’s a great life style. We got out mostly because of the cost of keeping our RV Unit going.
    But when we left, we found a place in AJ, AZ that was much like RV living. We now sit out front of our house and talk with our neighbors as they walk by. Have get togethers and the like.
    So if you’re on the road, keep on keeping on, and have fun. Life always changes.

    Got my PhD in RV YT videos BEFORE we got our first rig; thought I had it all down. And I did, for the most part. What I didn't realize that most (not all) the RV influencers had another motive, and that was to sell "stuff". Once I saw the behavior pattern, I noticed it's not just in the RV industry...it's everywhere. Took me some time to simmer down (fooled once, but not twice phrase), I took was valuable to me at the time & disregarded the rest. I understand there is money to be made, and so I started scrutinizing the ones I had subscribed to, unsubscribed the duplicates and stuck with the ones that seemed to be genuine in their presentation. I know that is subjective, but it has reduced the hours that I now watch and jumping on the purchasing the latest "shiny object syndrome"....as well as reducing my cargo weight. Anyway, I appreciate your honesty and transparency. Happy Travels!

    This was spot on, and I hate to break it to the folks who are ‘implying’ they are quitting only to try and pick up other sponsors on a different hobby, people across the board are just kinda sick of the whole ‘sponsorship’ thing in general I believe 🤷🏻‍♀️ it doesn’t matter if it’s homesteading, carnivore/keto, car collector, antiques, whatever ~ the whole UA-cam space is just over saturated with sponsors, and with the state of our economy right now, people seem to be done. I kept YT as my ONLY social media so I could use it as a platform to try and educate myself on different topics, however I’m seriously considering a hiatus. My preparedness/Homestead channel does well only when I show my pantry. Otherwise, its like crickets over here if I show any other content. I guess youtube algorithms get to decide what channels blow up and which fly under the radar. I will be honest, i prefer the smaller channels. When they start peddling products people send them is when i check out. Thanks for this video. It was spot on.

      What some see as a comforting routine, others see as wearing a straight jacket while walking in the world's deepest rut.
      And therein lies the beauty of life. For some, fulfillment is in perfecting and polishing a single diamond till it blinds the eye. For others it is walking on a strange empty beach at midnight while the palm fronds rustle overhead. Each a one time event they will hide among the treasures in the heart of hearts. Just as we can't share fingerprints, we cannot share the same dream. Your path and mine diverge, and neither is the better, only different.
      May peace and understanding be upon us all.

    All so very true!! We are retired and 65 years old, been rv’ing since early 90’s. Part time.. bought another big class C brand new 2 years ago. I see these big channels with the sponsors but I don’t buy what they pitch. I spent 3,000 dollars on making it handle and ride better and a satilite for tv. That’s it. No snap pads, high end water filters etc. we stay out 3 to 4 weeks at a pop, go home for a bit and do it again. We are fine just like we are and for us keeping our home has had benifits. I really like both of you’d honesty about rv’ing and your campgrounds reviews. Keep it up as long as you feel like it. We’ll be watching.

    My hubby & I started our retirement life as full time RVer's! (2011). We did enjoy it alot & made several friends - seem a lot of the country on our own time frame. We got to cross over the Mississippi river in 2022 and our 1st stop was Paducah Kentucky. This was the right place for both of us - so we settled here! We don't regret letting go of the RV & the lifestyle, but there were issues coming up (needed repairs to the rig, problems finding places to park that was in our budget, our ages & the abilities to drive the rig,...). We're happy that we have resettled on our dream (own a small house on 1/2 acre of land & paid cash for it all ❤!)
    We still travel to see places & events, but now it's hotels and shorter trips.

    The biggest realization that most people need to come to grips with is this: You'd better be somewhat mechanical or have some real-life practical engineering experience. No matter whose rig you purchase, be prepared for things to break, fall apart, or malfunction. Look at it this way: Your home on wheels is experiencing an earthquake every time you move it. If you can handle that, mentally and physically, you are good to go. Add the weight of a well-stocked toolbox to your capacity.

I got a call one day that they sold the motor home, and rented a real place to live. Problem? they needed a new front windshield, for $15K IF they could find a used one! They paid $6K for the rig. Nope, sold it, they could not afford the daily expense and the new window and repairs and on and on

    Thanks for being so straight forward on being an RVer! One UA-cam couple figured out how much they spend a year on the road including everything you mentioned - vehicle repairs to RV fees to food. Their total - $33,000. Now, I think they do spend a little more than many do. For instance, they switched out one new RV for another and I thought maybe there was some sponsorship from the dealer or manufacturer. But, yes it's expensive and trying to figure out if I should leave my comfy home for becoming a nomad makes me realize what a wuss I am. 😅

    My husband and I have full timed for over 6 years total, in 1999 and 2000 with our youngest son who was 12 years old and homeschooled. Not a lot of families or info out there then! Family concerns had us give it up until 2019 and we have been full-time since then. One thing people need to understand watching those UA-cam videos is that you may feel like you know them but they do NOT know you. You will make your own group of friends but chances are it will not be anyone you saw on UA-cam. Also keep in mind not only do they have sponsorships, but also get free entrance to many activities they show, preferential treatment at repair shops, access to camping apps based on mentioning them on their videos etc. If you actually purchased all the campground memberships, apps, and lots of other stuff that are mentioned in videos, you would be down quite a bit of money every month. Speaking of money, don't be taken in by many of the "we RV for this amount of money". Many of them feel that any expenses such as insurance, repair bills, medical, maintenance, don't really count because they are unpredictable! We love our full-time lifestyle but go into it doing some research on your wants and needs and income. There are lots of ways to make it work but for most of us it won't be becoming UA-cam Stars!

      What they NEVER talk about is the OPPORTUNITY cost of lost appreciation through home ownership! All these 20/30 somethings hanging out in the forests looks "cool" on instagram but isn't so "cool" when they are 40+, NO HOME, no money in the bank. I've got many hundreds of thousands in equity in my home through virtually no effort. The whole "I live for free on BLM land" garbage is just that, garbage. And the whole anti "sticks and bricks" thing makes me want to vomit. It shows how limited their financial knowledge is YET THEY ALL TALK AS IF THEY ARE SO SMART ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY ARE "SAVING". I just shake my head and keep quiet about my money/assets/paid off home/etc and try to enjoy the conversations.

    I am new to fifth wheel full time living. I am also stationary full-time living in a park close to my original home-base. I am loving my life and I did it because there is a housing shortage in my area. I am learning a lot about my rig and I am enjoying life. I have two special needs teen and we are having a blast! I appreciate the honesty in that it is not easy to live this way but the rewards are fabulous views and friends.

    I’ve dropped a few channels for getting overly political and religious. Dropped others because some are making themselves seem full time when they’re not. The RV Snap Pad and RV mattress commercials i fast forward through. I really like finding the RVers who are just starting out with their channels also.

    • @liferedesigned
      @liferedesigned  11 місяців тому +5

      We agree - we watch UA-cam to unwind and distract from politics etc - not really something we need to do or be involved in :) There are a lot of great smaller channels out there - stay tuned, we are working on a project that will bring more attention to smaller, HONEST channels.

    This is precisely how I feel about the big channels. I haven't spent much time watching as my wife, and I only considered joining the RV lifestyle about 6 months ago. Just watching some of their older videos and then some in the past few months is a huge difference. It makes me sad as watching those videos made us want to do RV living vs. the pain of getting a house, and all the red tape was too much, and rent in Texas goes up yearly.

    • @liferedesigned
      @liferedesigned  10 місяців тому +1

      It is an interesting thing about UA-cam, you spend so much time making videos just begging to be seen - once you are, the sponsors come out in tidal waves offering insane amounts of money. That is where greed kicks in. We have nothing against sponsors, just the bad ones and the channels that promote literally anything - just for the money

      I spent a few months in east Texas last winter and there are so many RV parks, and very affordable on a monthly basis. But TX is huge so you might live in a totally different area.

    • @kitsunelover24
      @kitsunelover24 10 місяців тому

      That was one of the reasons we were leaning towards an RV. We found a few hundred parks within a day's drive, and the rates are half what we pay in rent currently. Not to say we plan to stay in Texas once we get an RV. We plan to stay local to get our feet wet and get used to living full-time in an RV before venturing out.@@lauravictorious4670

    Was on the road for 2+ years and sort of saw this coming. It corresponded with the general difficulties people had/have with the economy - so many couldn't afford their home lifestyles any longer and went on the road to save, to live more cheaply. They find an RV park and just squat. The number of reasonably priced spaces dried-up and now too many parks are owned by investors. There's no good end to this as the prices will continue to rise, the rigs are being made more cheaply and are breaking a lot and fuel prices are continuing up. Fortunately I kept my house and moved back. I don't follow the RV channels now but I can imagine. In the western world today if it seems too good to be true, it is. Someone with $$ will buy up the good parts and force everyone else to pay pay pay. The first UA-camrs on a topic may be honest and dedicated, but the subsequent ones are just chasing the money. Is anyone really surprised?

    • @lauravictorious4670
      @lauravictorious4670 10 місяців тому

      There are reasonably priced RV spots, if you rent by the month or season. But it may not be the case in the places you'd like to live. I paid $2000 for a year, but my rig will be winterized for half that time. Still, I can keep it in the same spot and come back to it in the summer.

    My wife & I were Full Time RVers for just over 2 1/2 years. One of the biggest problems we encountered was bad behavior by other RVers/campers. A lot of people went out during the Covid lockdowns and purchased RV's, but never took the time to learn any RV etiquette. Campground rules meant nothing to them, and they had no common sense or courtesy.
    Another thing we learned was most Campgrounds will not enforce their own rules because they are too afraid of someone giving them a bad review online. We were work campers and traveled from one work-camping gig to the next, that's how we made our living.
    Also, many of the places we stayed at were remote and we had to travel pretty far to go grocery shopping, and some of the places we had to shop at were expensive. Cell service was also iffy, as was WiFi.
    We've since sold our travel trailer and purchased a house. We find we are more comfortable back in a sticks & bricks house, we have less stress, and we're doing better financially now, than when we were on the road.
    One more thing. As work campers, we discovered that more and more campgrounds are figuring out that they don't have to pay you for your work. They want you to work a certain number of hours in exchange for your site, and will not give you any paid hours over that..
    Full Time RVing just got to be too much of a hassle, so we quit full timing. But we did meet some great people while we were full timing, and we still remain friends with them.
    JT & Jo-Ann

    I love camping and have a travel trailer and have spent hours watching you tube videos. But, there is no way I would sell my home and hit the road full-time. I need roots and family. I am happy that you have said what I thought all along about the glamorous, life is a vacation 24/7 full timers. I like variety like getting away from it all for a while, spending the hot summer days in my backyard pool, camping in the fall when the leaves are changing, holidays with my family and cold winter days by the fire with hot chocolate and a good book. Full time RVing was never in my plans.

    1994 I was a younger man and the family business I worked for had a family member that sold a successful business and traveled the country in a Rv, I couldn't wrap my head around it. But I was fascinated by the true freedom of nomad living. Of course the millions in the account helped I'm sure.

    Thanks for a real lesson on RV life, my wife and I are retired and thinking about RV life. We recently made a decision that we would buy a different house then we have now and travel part time. We do have grandkids here in Michigan and other places.. as a person who’s worked in physical plant most of my life my biggest concern is finding an RV that actually is Madewell that search I have been looking for.
