- How to Create a Sticker Offset in Inkscape / Use with Cricut Design Space!
Inkscape is a completely free design program anyone can use and I love working with it . . today's video shows you how I create offsets (you can use offsets on text or images, like for sticker making!)
You can create text or upload PNG images you like to Inkscape. AFter creating the offsets they can be uploaded to Cricut Design Space to cut out!
I am using plain white sticker paper from Online Labels in this project today.
YES!!! Thank you for no filler words. I'd much rather pause and replay than listen to uuummms and stories.
I cant tell you how many times I've said to my computer, "get to the point already".
Lol me too I skip thru most intros😄. Thank you!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR, I am now happy I don't have to use so many other programs or some weird steps! Thank you so much this has helped tremendously!!
Yay I’m so glad this was helpful!!
I have watched so many tutorials using a number of different programs. This was by far the most clear and accessible. Thank you so much!
That’s so great thank you!!
Thanks a ton. This is definitely the bes tutorial of the many that I saw. 🖤
5 stars for this video, its up to date and none of the steps were missed and everything was described as you were doing it! First video I've found without "connected" text/images. THANK! YOU!
Thanks you so much I’m so glad you liked this video!!😊
not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my brother these days :)
@Leonel Ryker yup, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
THANK YOU! I'll be much happier making my own than searching through other people's designs and not finding exactly what I want!
You're welcome! I'm glad this helped!!
thanks! been trying to figure this out for ages, this method works perfect thanks so much!!
Best tutorial ever

Thank you I will slow down a bit glad this helped!!
Amazing! Loved watching you create the wreath sticker, thank you for sharing.

Brilliant thanks........................
You're welcome!
Hi I have followed your instructions I cannot make a linked offset. It does not give me the little node to expand of contract no matter what I do. Can you help?
I needed this. Thank you as always Christy! ❤️
Awesome! Thanks Li!
Brilliant thanks for that😃. Your video was so helpful I was struggling using photopea
Awesome! I’m so glad this helped!!😊

Great tutorial thanks
my own question answered by end of the vid.. thank you!!!
Awesome I’m so glad this was helpful!😊
That was a Great tutorial!
Thank you so glad you enjoyed!!
Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome!!
Thank you for your video, love the step-by-step. I just downloaded Inkscape and my screen looks different. Example, when you say to lock the size there is no lock. Is there a way to set up Inkscape?
So glad you liked the video thank you! Yes if you want to set it up you go to File then Document Properties. There you can set up your units to inches or etc and change the paper layout. The little lock should be up at the top center of your screen between the W and H (width and height).
Thanks so much for your tutorial. So happy I found it!! I'm new to Inkscape and it was very helpful. Can I use a jpeg also to make an offset? I have saved lots of flowers and would love to make stickers from them. Thanks again!
Hi I’m so glad this was helpful!! Jpegs are a bit different because they do have a back ground and you would need to go thru some steps to remove the back ground first!👍🏻
Very good tutorial 💕
Thank you!!😊
Hi, do you have at a tutorial on how you setup inskape? i opened the document properties tab and it's so big and takes up half the screen and i'm also not sure what other tabs should be open on the side.
Hi! I think i have one that I did on creating a Christmas svg, the one that says "snowflakes dance on my nose". I believe I show how to set up your document.
The text part of this is AMAZING! I've lost track of the number of tutorials I've watched trying to get that to work so Thank you so much for that! When I try to do the image version my bitmap popup box is completely different than yours so I'm not sure what to choose. I've tried playing with it a bit but I'm not getting the desired results, any suggestions?
Thank you! It may be which computer you use I have heard that Apple versions are different?
@@AppalachianHomeCo Mac iOS strikes again.
I'm on a PC and my version has separate tabs for "Single scan" and "Multiple scans"... I have to select multiple scans
Love it thx
What if i don't use cricut for printing. If i want to print in Photoshop or Inkscape (if possible in Inkscape),do i still only have to just make offset or i have to make countour cut lines as well?
Hi. Are you cutting by hand? If so you wouldn’t need an offset border at all, just leave enough room between the images on the page and freehand cut around them. Or you could turn on the stroke (in Inkscape) for your offset and that would print a small black border around your offset that would serve as a cutting guide when you print, if that makes sense. And yes you can print in Inkscape, it will print whatever is inside your page when “show page border” is on. Hope that helps!
Is there a way to do multiple offsets for the same word? I would like to create multiples of them with different colors. Thanks!
Hi yes you can offset an offset if that’s what you mean, the same way you did the original text. You will need to click on the offset, go to Path, Object to Path, then create the next offset. 👍🏻
Thank you so much for this video. I have been wanting to learn this for quite some time. What I would like to learn also, when you have an image and you want to add test, how do you create the offset with the text and the image? Not on the image but maybe on the top, side or whatever. Would love to know how to do that. Thank you again
Hi you’re welcome so glad this was helpful. I would create the image offset and the text offset separately at first. Then position them where you would like them and then you can union them together to create one large offset if that makes sense?
@@AppalachianHomeCo Thank you I will try this. Can I ask you one other thing, So cause of your video I started to use inkscape, I do have a mac and I have issues with it like freezing and can't move the object, Is this program best for windows I'm wondering. Your video was very clear and perfect direction. I do well with videos like yours. I have been wanting to learn how to do this for a long time and finally found your video. Thank you and thank you for your reply.
I am not getting ungroup option and object to path, any idea why?
Thank you so much 😊 can you tell me what settings you use so it doesn’t cut through the backing sheet please? I can’t get the ‘balance right 🤪
Hi. Yes I use the setting for “Sticker Paper, Removable” in the Material choices it usually works the best for not cutting thru the back.👍🏻
What cutting setting did you cut on? My sticker paper is thin and it keeps cutting all the way through even on light pressure. Thank you for putting this video up!
So you don't have to resize in Cricut, when you're adjusting the Document Properties, set the scale at 72. Keep the display units as inches. If you only use Inkscape for Cricut designs, set this as a template or the default (also set the document to 12x12).
Awesome I will definitely start using that thanks so much.😊👍🏻
Such a great tutorial! I do have a question though. I was using a different color for each of my letters, and after I ungrouped the letters and hit "path > union", the letters all became the same color. How can I prevent this from happening? Thanks!
Perhaps make sure the letters aren't touching. It's unioning everything-- this is what you use to make it one long path to cut. If you sant individual colours, DOJ but union, but then select each letter separately using the shift key (while in node editor, I think). Then offset.
Love the font for the word sticker. Can u share the name of that font. So cute. Great tutorial 😊😊😊
Hi thank you! Hi this font was part of a trio called Blooming Elegant. I think it came from Creative Market.👍🏻
Does anyone know how to edit the actually design space toolbar. It is so light (faded) my mom can barely see which button she is trying to click.
Hi actually no I haven’t tried to do that! I’ll research👍🏻
mine keep saving with a black background any way to change that?
Hi. PNGs save without any background so the default background you see when you pull up your file is black on your picture viewer. If you drag your png into design space it will go in without a background at all so it would be fine to leave it this way. If you do want to see a white background you can add one by creating a white square and placing it behind your image before you save or export it. Hope that helps!
Super helpful video! Thanks so much...question..just curious why do you save your stickers as a 'png' file rather than an 'svg' file and then export as opposed to saving to Inkscape?
Hi thank you so glad the video was helpful! I really didn’t need to create an svg because I wasn’t cutting it out as a cut file, I just wanted to print and cut around it. This saves steps in flattening the images in design space and getting cricut not to actual cut out those little pieces inside the sticker, if that makes sense?😊
@@AppalachianHomeCo Perfect! thanks so much
Thank you so much! Is Inkscape only available on a PC/MAC or can it be used on an iPad?
You’re welcome! I haven’t tried Inkscape on iPad I’ll try and download it to see how it works!👍🏻
When I tried to create an offset for a png image, it did not work for me. When I click Path, Trace Bitmap, I get a totally different screen that you did. My screen did not say anything about color. I'm running Inkscape 1.0 and wondering if you have a different version.
Hi. I’m not sure about other versions but I will research and see!
I too am having the same issue. My Trace Bitmap does not look the same. I've purchased some floral images that I want to put an offset around them and I can not figure it out. I have the same version on Inkscape 1.0. Is it because I am using a Mac version. I'm hoping you can help Christy. TIA.
Angie Garcia Hi. Yes it may be different in Mac versions I haven’t tried Inkscape for Mac. I can research and see if it’s different.👍🏻
Thanks for the tutorial. When I add the LInked Offset, it flashes with the red border as I pass over the word, but there is no node point to click on and drag. :(
Hmmmm.... are you using a Mac I think the steps are a bit different on a Mac or iPad?
I have the same problem. I am on my HP laptop.
I’m having the same problem and I’m on a PC.
Thank you, this is definitely what I looking for .. I already downloaded inks cape ..
I don't wanna use phonto or photopea
Hi! That’s great I’m so glad this helped! I love Inkscape and didn’t want to pay a lot of money for the use of other design programs.👍🏻
How did you change the background to the checker one?
Hi. Go under “file” and select “document properties”. There is a selection that says “checkerboard background” you just need to check that box.👍🏻
When I try to delete nodes it deletes my whole offset how do I fix this
Make sure you are changing your image to a path under Path, Object to Path. That should help let me know if it doesn’t.👍🏻
How did you create the wreath image though?
Hi! The wreath image is clipart I found online, it is a png image.
What scale do you use in inkscape settings?
Hi! I forget to change the scale a lot but most people I watch use 1:1.
Can you do more than one word at a time?
Hi yes you can write a whole sentence and it will work the same!
I am having issues with nodes(?) Like my whole word isn't red like yours. Mine individual letters get red when I touch it.
Noob here.
Hi! Hmmm... After you change your word to a path (under object, path) just make sure you have ungrouped every little part before you union them together. Sometimes they all don’t ungroup in one try. Maybe that’s it? If not let me know!
@@AppalachianHomeCo it worked! Thank you so much!
Hani I. Great!!! You’re welcome 😊
@@AppalachianHomeCo Hi, I am having another issue. When I try to takes thise holes out, my whole thing gets deleted. What should I do?
Hani I. Maybe try zooming in a little closer and make sure you only select the nodes for the holes? Also make sure you change the offset to a path as well before trying to delete nodes👍🏻
what if there is ungroup option? :(
