That peak chorus is amongst the most committed and passionate lines ever delivered by a singer. He didn't just put his soul into it, he wrapped ours in as well.

Maybe UA-cam was always meant to be the vehicle for the rest of the world to discover one of the most talented, most underrated Australian artists ever. John Farnham is a glorious talent.

Never underrated, just under exposed. He did undertake some European touring and usa touring, but missed his home and family life so global touring didn't happen. He has a happy, grounded life with his lovely family, friends, backing singers, band members, and seems to have a real love fest with his fans. Sounds like win win all round. 9.1.24. UK. E❤

This man John Farnham is perhaps the most amazing singer of all time !
I mean he sings better live than on the bloody record ! He is just insane !
He can sing any style any song, make it his own and usually lift the roof off the building every time.
This version is jaw dropping and so emotional i tear up every time.
John has the power from above 🙏

I was either at this concert or another night of this tour - the crazy thing about John’s power is that the amplification does almost nothing. It’s ALL him. I was seated one tier up off one side of the stage, and at one point I heard his voice directly. As in, I could hear him OVER the sound system. It was just astonishing.

Shut up ! already paid for the tickets ... get in the car !!! ... after that night ... all my cds of John disappeared and years later my enlightened son flew from Singapore (living and working) to see the man he was once reluctant to see !! ... this was not combined with any family gatherings ... just for the musician he now truly appreciates !!!! .... :)

The connection between John Farnham and this song is this. He was the lead singer of The Little River Band for a while in the early 80s. Steve Prestwich left Cold Chisel and also joined LRB at about the same time. This song was written by Steve, who was a brilliant song writer. The world is a lesser place without him in it and his wonderful song writing skills. RIP Steve. I'm a big fan ...

People have their own favourite version of this song, which was originally a Cold Chisel song. John and Jimmy have performed this together and tend to just belt it out all over the place. My opinion is that this particular vocal performance is John's best ever and the best version of the song I've ever heard from any performer. Cold Chisel fans will probably think otherwise and I respect that.
I'm glad you got to hear him singing this on his own. The song itself is so emotive, but layer that with John's ability to make you feel the lyrics of the songs he sings, and it's just a wonderful musical performance all round. The guitar work is brilliant. Stunning, stunning live performance of a very difficult song. Pity you kept stopping it, but you didn't know what was coming. I hope you just listen to it yourself now all the way through because you really understand the genuine passion John has for the song. Thanks for showing this.

Sorry its Brett Garsed. Brett played on just about all of JF albums from Whispering Jack on wards. He left for the states when the Chain reaction tour was on but actually played on the album. He is highly regarded around the world in guitar circles as in the top ten fusion players. And also a very nice human :)

I have been sitting here playing your reactions to Australian music for a solid hour. It is not for the music that I've stayed on UA-cam this long - it is for your sheer enthusiasm and appreciation. of the artists. Thank you.

When Robbie Williams performed at our AFL Grand Final 2022, he covered John Farnham's You're the voice and dropped the key 3 semitones from F to D; so you wouldn't be alone with that.

John has made me smile for more than 30 years. My first concert was age of reason.
In a selfish way, I am so glad he never made it big on the world stage because I got to enjoy it all being in his home town.
Dude you missed out big time seeing this man do this thing

Yes, this is a Cold Chisel song, and one of the all-time Aussie rock classics. The original is a bit faster than John's live version, but both of them are magnificent! John's band is amazing in this performance ... and as for the man himself, what can I say that you haven't already said? One of the finest singers on the planet, period!

I was lucky to be sitting in that audience that time, more amazing each time he sings this song, if that’s even possible! John Farnham is the G.O.A.T. Don’t care, it’s true! The VOICE of Australia! I love your reactions. Keep them coming. You should look at Man on your mind when he was with The Little River Band live! Omg
