This was a magnificent performance by an incredible artist. People say Dimash is a great great singer but I think this guy tops him. The emotion he portrays gets me every time. Great reaction thank you
I'm an Australian, and he is the best of the best. I've been to many concerts of his, and American/UK artists, from cliff Richard in the old days, Shania Twain, Pink, Meat Loaf, and many more. But John's stage presents, voice, interaction with the crowd, music is beyond any other artists reach. Because he's natural and incredibly humble. Sings, performs for his audiences, not at them. I've even stolen a kiss on my cheek from him. My prayers for healing hands for John's fight against mouth cancer. 😢
Growing up in Australia I think it was easy to be overexposed to John Farnham at times. Being able to view him through fresh eyes/ears who haven’t been exposed to him before helps me appreciate him so much more
John’s vocals are just on another level, he is one of the all time greats yet his name doesn’t get mentioned in the top 50 of Rolling Stones magazine etc. what’s incredible here is his age to, not bad for a dude in his 50s
The mark of a great backing vocalist is that they do not try to compete with the lead vocalist. I was a lead vocalist, and pretty good. But I was renown for my backing vocals and everyone want me to do their backing vocals, because I always made the lead singer sound good. I didn't compete with them, I backed them. But for sure, that young lady probably isn't in the same category of John Farnham. At 53, he was still spot on vocally. I heard him live when he was 70 and he was perfect. Never missed a note. I love the guy.
Thank you for your comments and appreciation for this beautiful human being. I grew up listening to John Farnham, and although I loved his songs, and thought he was a good bloke, never really appreciated his exceptional talent, way back then. The last wee while, listening to reactors, such as yourself, with knowledge of the craft, has been enlightening, and utterly joyful.
From a teenager of 18 to this performance at 54 and all the way to his 70's John Farnham has always been a "Great" singer....a real superstar and I sure hope the rest of the world will start recognising it. He deserves to be listed up there as one of the all time, world wide, greatest of all time performers
John is incredible. When John bumps up the pitch and power that leads into that incredible "and not get blown away", that shakes me to the core every single time.
John Farnham has amazing breathing control and range and a natural. To think that he was a tradie to start with yet had this amazing talent. How good was that !!
I've seen John Farnham live several times. I saw him open for Lionel Richie in Sydney, John smoked him. Walked out on Lionel half way through. Careful who pick as your opening act.
OMG your commentary is so incredibly on the money! Yes! Farnham's performances are revelations of the spirit that can and do change our lives for the better. He is a channel for the love that flows to all mankind!
John was 54 here and still blowing us away with his vocals. There is another version of this that goes straight into the song by the way.😊 If you want to see something special, check out Amazing Grace which features John with Lindsay and Vanetta, two of his backing singers. Vanetta Field has sung with Barbra Streisand and Tina Turner and will certainly impress you. Loving your reactions.
'When the War is Over' is a world anthem for all the war veterans around the world no matter what country. This is such a great great song. And the great John Farnham did it justice.
john mentioned sadie here that was his first hit that i remember from my teenage years, loved it , he jokes about it but no matter what, every aussie knows its HIS song
Our John always gave 110% every concert he worked hard to perfect his trade and was always generous to other performers, it’s almost like he was born to perform and sing.
This song was written by Cold Chisel for the veterans who returned from the Vietnam War. John Farnham, like with all songs, does an incredible version of this song.. 💕
He makes me cry every single time I hear his version of this song. Love John so much and your review is spot on xoxo from Sydney Australia his other girl Lisa is beautiful and Lisa is great. This young lass knew his mum in the 60’s when he sang Sadie the cleaning lady . Her mum was once of the dancers with him. She did a good job just not a Lisa job xoxo again spot on
You are so right, our John is the greatest. Everything he sings, no matter the genre, is simple amazing. He always puts absolutely everything into a song and performance and makes you feel so much, he’s great.
I have 40-50 John Farnham CDs & DVDs on the other side of the room that I've collected since 1980, yet I'm enjoying watching him on UA-cam with like minded followers and sharing the happiness that way. The earlier records are in the garage with the casette tapes, many are 3rd or 4th purchases to sing along with. I think it's the sharing that's special.
Dramasyde, I know this was uploaded a month ago, but I hope you see this quick note. Just wanted to let you know that John is back in hospital again. Our warmest thoughts and sincerest wishes are being sent out to "Australia's Favourite Son". Oh what a prodigious talent.
Up until a couple of months, or so, ago, I'd only heard of John Farnham's, 'You're The Voice', which is one of my all time favourite songs. It's now my 16 month old Granddaughter's favourite, too 😀 Since discovering more from him, via reactors and Spotify, he has now become my all time favourite singer, ever! I've heard many of his songs, now, and I can say, with all honesty, that I love each and every one of them. Thank you for your great reaction, to this fantastic singer. This song, brings me to tears, every time I hear it. Especially this particular performance.
Well, what can I say about John Farnham. I've run out of superlatives to describe his amazing talent. I've pretty much, listened to everything he's done, hundreds of times and I still get goosebumps every time he reaches the upper register of his 3.2 octave range. Your reviews of John have always impressed me as being insightful and accurate as you did with this review. Very well done!
Love your comments Dramasyde ! Say a prayer for John is undergoing treatment for mouth cancer. John is 73 now and we hope he makes a full recovery. John is one of the humblest people you would meet in a days march.!!
Thank you for reacting to this wonderful version of an amazing song . . John can sing anything and I just get blown away every time I hear this version. He is simply the best .
Gives me goosebumps (frisson) EVERY time I hear it, at exactly the same places, even after 30 years or more.. Lisa Edwards (with the baby) is his backing singer for years, with Venetta Fields and Lindsay Field. The beautiful backing singer replacing her (with Lindsay Field), at 7:14 is my drummer mates sister, the amazing Danni'elle Gaha.. Usually he has 3 backing singers (for the exact reason you stated, to compete with Johns talent!) John is a beautiful human and a legend. Currently recovering from major mouth cancer surgery, all our thoughts and best wishes are with him. (He may never sing again) One of the most beautiful (Australian) songs ever written, by Steve Prestwich, the drummer of Cold Chisel (R.I.P.)
Another wonderful reaction good sir. The difference between John and 99% of other vocalists… as he ages his delivery of his vocals change. Not due to a loss in vocal capacity. He incorporates life experience, pain, sorrow, joy. He manages to take songs we’ve heard numerous times over the years and change it into a different beast. This song is a prime example. Watch a performance of this song from the 80’s and 90’s and compare that to this performance. If you get time do yourself a favour and check out one of those performances. You don’t need to do a reaction. I’d be interested to see if you see the same. As always I’m here for the ride!
John is amazing im only sorry that the rest of the world is only starting to see it .he so deserved to have world wide success ,but in saying that John was always grateful for the success he had .And im so glad for the words you speak keep enjoying xxx
I’m so glad you’re touched so deeply by Farnham. I think it’s universal that people can sink into and be changed and elevated by music that they listen to. It may be different artists, different genres, that do it for different individuals, but that transportation is the same and one of the best experiences of being human.
A magnificent song written by Cold Chisel's drummer, the late Steve Prestwich, featuring a powerhouse performance by the band (with Brett Garsed ripping the solo to shreds) and a disgrossting, dare I say - typically disgrossting? - John Farnham performance. Speedy recovery, John. Faaaaaarnsey!
Thank you for that and today I really needed to hear John. It is the first time I ever cried through this song but I earned it. My heart went back into a normal rhythm after 8 days but the best part is my husband had surgery today. His cancer is under control and I got to bring him home with me. I didn’t know how much I was holding onto until now. So I owe John a thank you as well. Bless you both.
Thank you so much your reactions are just perfect, you really know exactly how to explain what I feel about the artist, it's such a gift and John Farnham is just exceptional. Thank you again.
Oh I’m jealous; I wish I could hit the notes and have the power within my voice that John does but I’m also thankful that I’ve been one of the lucky ones that has seen him live in concert
He does this song awesome Jimmy Barnes sang it originally but John hes a legend even tho he won't sing again due to illness, we still love him 🇦🇺✌🏼 the movie coming out about him is going to be flippin amazing get well soon Farnsy xx and thank you
Thank you so much for your review of our brilliant John performing this amazing track. I always appreciate and look forward to your views and reactions because you say it as it is and are not afraid to put it out there.
He is everything. So incredibly talented. It’s strange and oh so wonderful to have had him in my life since I was 8 years old and now watch other people discovering him. I especially like your discerning comments and the way you allow most of the song to play uninterrupted.❤ I think you would greatly enjoy Comic Conversation (live). About half of the video is John talking so you might want to skip that. I don’t know how to request a song reaction so if anyone can help me out….
All your Aussie fans have been waiting to see you react to this performance, and you didn't disappoint. I think this may be John's best performance in terms of power and emotion. This is an Anthem in Oz, with John and Jimmy Barnes being the only ones "allowed" to sing this, and both bring sonething different to the table.
You are so right about John. I have been in awe of him since he was a teenager and he and his amazing voice have just grown stronger and more beautiful every year. He sings with love for music, life and his audience. It always comes from his heart. Straight to yours.
Beautifully said, John is such a masterful interpreter, respecting the original, so often he elevates a great composition to extraordinary heights, this is one of those. Like "Help" it's universal relevance and John's incredible ability to employ his artistry to speak directly to our emotions with such sincerity, passion and humanity creates something of rare and timeless beauty. As a proud Aussie and an admirer of John's talents since the late 60's, not only has it been a privilege to follow his career & marvel at his immense talent but more so to see him finally receive the universal recognition he so richly deserves.
I'm buckled up, full harness seat belt ! I've been lucky enough to be present at about 12 Farnham Concerts and believe me, there is a long distance in this trip yet
I love it when awesome singers are funny as well! Even with the serious material, the intro had me smiling before he whapped me with the feels. What a wonderful reaction to wake up to, thank you sir :)
This song - and this performance specifically- has the power to take one to different places depending on one’s mood. Not many songs can do that! Great reaction x
I’m from Perth Western Australia. Utmost respect to you for reacting to one of our amazing Aussie talents. John Farnham is incredible. His voice is so clear and strong. His voice is unique and powerful. So sad that we won’t hear him sing again. Wishing John all the best during his recovery.
Lisa is such an amazing singer on her own. After watching "Angels" where Lisa does a direct duo with him, you will notice quite quickly that when she warms up her vocals, she has the same power and intensity that John has and a near identical range. John can get into that feminine range as well, Watching him sing "Imagine" with Ray Charles he does a lot of ad lib as they play off each other. A couple times he is trying to reach a new note and accidentally slips into a really high pitch feminine voice.
His vocals are in another stratosphere 🎶
How many fellow Aussies sit here grinning every time waiting for reactors to hear 8:33 and beyond 😄
Not many people in their mid-fifties can hit those notes.
With all due respect to the young lady singing backup, his number one backup singer was holding a baby in the audience.
This was a magnificent performance by an incredible artist. People say Dimash is a great great singer but I think this guy tops him. The emotion he portrays gets me every time. Great reaction thank you
Thank you for your explanation, it is true that John can sing the pants off a song❤
Greatest singer ever for me.
There is no other 54yr old singer that can do this. That is why he isn't just great, he is the GREATEST.
No jealousy here, just simple admiration, and he deserves accolades.

Damn ! How can anyone sing like that !
Thank you for your comments and appreciation for this beautiful human being. The last wee while, listening to reactors, such as yourself, with knowledge of the craft, has been enlightening, and utterly joyful.
Lisa, the lady with the baby, was John's regular backup singer alongside Vanetta and Lindsay.
From a teenager of 18 to this performance at 54 and all the way to his 70's John Farnham has always been a "Great" singer....a real superstar and I sure hope the rest of the world will start recognising it. He deserves to be listed up there as one of the all time, world wide, greatest of all time performers
I know The Dr is Dr Who but I'm going to start calling this man the Dr because he makes me feel better everytime he sings.
That he is so ill is a tragedy of the first order. He is magnificent
Legend. After 50 plus years he still lifts me up.
He is a great singer and a greater human being.
There's a reason he's our National Treasure
John is incredible.
When John bumps up the pitch and power that leads into that incredible "and not get blown away", that shakes me to the core every single time.
I've always said it and I'll say it again
One of the greatest live singers ever
Thanks for your reaction
A great singer who acts like the friendly guy down the pub. Can't fault him.
I love how John always acknowledges the rest of the people on stage with him: he lifts everyone up.
Love your comments regarding John, Michael....love your reactions , thankyou xox
John Farnham has amazing breathing control and range and a natural. To think that he was a tradie to start with yet had this amazing talent. How good was that !!

John Farnham is a Legend. Every song he sings is an amazing experience for those of us who are so lucky to hear him🇦🇺💜

This is my favourite Farnsey song (even though it’s a cover). He is an icon and a legend.

How can I go home and not get blown away? Beautiful.
I’ve heard Americans use the baseball expression “knocked it out of the park”…. That performance- you’d probably still be looking for the ball! Wow!

Easily one of the best versions of this song.

This man brings tears to the eyes of old men
Agree man, great performance from a GREAT singer
I get goosebumps everytime I hear him sing love the messages in his songs x
He is a fantastic singer. And i love the way he interacts with the crowd.
Thank you for this, it brought me to so much tears. I'm an emotional wreck after this in a good way.
Preach Baby - love your thoughts. As an Aussie, I know the awesomeness of John Farnham. Spread that word mate
This song - and this performance specifically- has the power to take one to different places depending on one’s mood. Not many songs can do that! Great reaction x

John is an absolute legend!
You know this is a Cold Chisel song right? You also need to hear Jimmy and Ian Moss singing this. 😊 Ringside live in 2003.
Lisa is such an amazing singer on her own. After watching "Angels" where Lisa does a direct duo with him, you will notice quite quickly that when she warms up her vocals, she has the same power and intensity that John has and a near identical range.
