Yuichi's slim treehouse sways as a nest in Japanese cypress

- When builder/craftsman Yuichi Takeuchi was asked by a friend to build a treehouse as a second residence in Fujiyoshida- an area near the base of Mount Fuji and popular for vacation residences- Takeuchi set to work searching the trees and looking for a place to rent.
He finally found a friend who was willing to lease some land (for a decade) in the backyard of his woodworking workshop. Takeuchi then invited friends/coworkers to camp out with him and brainstorm at the site. “I’m not a professional architect… I don’t really design things I just enjoy what’s happening next. And this was designed by many of us just staying in this little house [the workshop floor] and sleep together, eat together and drink together and just keep talking about design and how we want so this was happening on the location.”
Together Takeuchi and friends of Tree Heads & Co. began constructing a tiny cabin (“about 4 and a half tatami mats”) perched 20 feet high on two young trees. It’s constructed from Japanese cypress, mostly from trees felled by Takeuchi within a couple miles of the property.
The tiny elevated home is furnished with just a carpet- the part-time residents roll out sleeping bags at night- and a kitchen of rice cooker and camping stove.

Imagine waking up to a sea of greeneries swaying, fresh forest air, happy singing birds.. No traffic, no carbon, no crazy noises.. Pure bliss...
"...the tree grows muscles..." I LOVE that!
I think this bloke is a very special person .
I just wanted to say, his pronunciation of English is not only fantastic, but adorably non-american, and I really enjoy it.
I wasn't questioning what type of accent it was. It's plainly of British origin. My point was that it's nice to hear a Japanese person speaking in a non-American accent.
The ladder. Ohhh, it's so well placed. So simple. The boxes around the trees above the roof... everything. Daijobbu!
I love how your girls are just enjoying themselves wherever they are. They're brave too! All kids should grow up like this.
This was a neat idea and the way in which this young gentleman engineered the entire home is so interesting and captivating. It gives you a little insight on how his mind operates. Very clever creation.
"there's no other reason. just to feel good". I like that.
your kids are having the best adventures!
That's a nice roof idea for a small house. Especially with that window setup.
So it's basically a haiku expressed in architecture rather than words. Very nice. BTW thanks for making and posting all those amazing videos.
I come to this channel to hide from trolls... I love the comments on this channel, so candid, loving, respectful....
+leon scott Welcome to UA-cam Heaven
Very simple guy!
Wow thank you Yuichi Takeuchi what a joy :)
Love, love, love !!!! Wish I had one. Yuichi is a man of ZEN. Thank you very much for sharing this with the world. I've been simplifying my life now for more than two years, much more to go before total retirement. ! ! !
Hi Yuichi. I like your treehouse, quite an amazing space! I too live on a treehouse, on a beach in Kenya. I hope that time and chance will allow us to meet someday.
Awesome tree house
A very cool and likeable guy, Yuichi. Another pro video, Kirsten. Beautiful.
I honestly love how you take your kids with you and everyone is so inviting :)
11:48 i believe the term he is looking for is a "jack of all trades" great craftsmanship none the less pro or not.
I like how he is.
Cute! This was really refreshing to watch
Such candour and his charm is inspiring, buddha reaches him 🌹
Your children are gorgeous and fearless. Way to go!@
Awesome woodwork! Love the thought that went through to board the interior wall in different angles to make it interesting, more so when you realized that the owner has no formal architectural knowledge. Genuine stuff!
I think its so cute!!! Plz enjoy your lil hide a way!!!
Thank you, Kirsten,
A million thumbs way up, up in the trees, that is. : )
I believe the uniqueness of this humble, yet majestic tree house is derived from people utilizing the"Fly by the seat of your pants" technique. Good practice for learning how to trust yourself and the other craftsmen involved, as a whole.
It's a thing of Beauty !!!
Simple... "The Tree and Me", he said
It stirs the soul, it does, as the breeze in the trees. Truly Inspiring.
I love his tree house! It's very nice size. Not too high. Perfect. Ever since I was a kid I always wanted a tree house. Still do :)
Hearing ... "that is a noise you want" - and I would like to see a forest filmed from the inside ... zen-ish tranquility ... the tree house would allow for that on even level. And yes, his English is perfect - the first Japanese I remember speaking English, and then he is just one with his surroundings. Like his metaphors ("muscle") and how he is feels the trees, the soil, the sky. Hmmm ... probably a tree pattern camouflage buddhist. :)
As a youngster I built many a treehouse, as I am sure many others have also. It seems as somehow it returns us to our childhood nature. Somehow allowing our creativity to grow and not be stifled by what is dictated to what should be or what we perceive to be practical. Though there is a balanced being achieved here between the zen like nature of minimalism and the unconventional construction. Being in the trees also gives us a sense of security from what wanders the earth on the ground, but creates a creates a paradox with the insecurity of being suspended in air.
it's a beautiful and amazing the things that we can do to make our lives better
this guy's laugh is a signature.
Great structure! Love Nature!
That is a paradise.
I think this my favorite by far.
Wado for sharing Kirsten ! I am very grateful !
ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
Amazing. You have the best stories EVER!
Yuichi,.....quite impressive....impressive indeed....my congratulations sir.....beautiful work. Kirsten,....thanks for showing us this nice tree house.
A great place to go to decompress,to relax, air out your mind when you live in a city like there in Japan,overcrowded,hectic.....Ahh,to be 4 years old again where bugs are fascinating, job is an unknown word, everything is still new and amazing with the entire world still out there waiting to be explored, and enjoyed..
aaah feels like a taste of heaven on earth!
great video, and what a cool builder
I like the space, especially for camping purposes or as a home office.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing :-)
What a beautiful house!
ماشاء الله تبارك الله ....احسنتى تصوير روعة
His English is perfect I wonder if he lived in Australia, his accent sounds Australian/American.
+natrone23 It sounds more like British English to me.
I was thinking British.
He's an Australian brunette girl with a ponytail. Who cares?
+Leap Of Faith Im also Japanese and feels like British English to me.
+natrone23 that's what I thought he sounded a bit aussie :D
It's same like my dream deacent and so simple treehouse and high above the land it's quit slinceee loving it luv nature 🙌❤🙏💯💯☝😉❕
it's lifestyle for those who luv nature and silenced ...
Beautiful and terrifying. Yuichi and his talented friends have built a very peaceful getaway.... unless you are afraid of heights. :-)
I have trouble sleeping away from home. Do you get good sleep staying in all these different and unique places? I would be up all night listening to the sounds and feeling all that movement. Love your channel. Thanks for all you share.
Josie's Journey one sleeps deeply and peacefully after learning to allow the brain to naturally filter out the pleasant sounds of nature. Does this really easily.
Here I am in Dec of 2019 finding this !! Amazing!! I love this !! A tiny piece of heaven !! Great video! I just found your channel and have watched 5 video's and subbed!! I'm hooked on your videos!!
great video and interview!
The great thing about a tree house, like a tiny house on a trailer, is that you often times don't need a building permit!
Haha, that is quite ironic when I look at it. Seems like there would be a few more hazards than a regular house
mr yuichi , you are a learned man to speak at least 2 languages fluently . i concur with a minimalist style , tatami mats is mostly all one needs to sleep comfortably , i liked your clever block and tackle system using heavy canvas bags . i wondered whether your treehome circumvents any zoning laws since you technically dont occupy the land your abode is in the air no one owns it , in some areas its known as ( air rights ) anyhow i thought your treehouse was one of the better i have seen . thank you for sharing your programme .
Very nice.
love them all
It is a pretty awesome experience. Not for those with fear of heights, like I have though. And I climbed this particular tree house some time ago.... I started getting palpitations! But other wise, very nice view from the top.
Lovely
Love his accent.
Where do you find all these great houses to film? I'm always astounded at the next video you post!
Nice tree house
I once did one of those tree zip line courses in Germany and a couple of the platforms were on trees so tall that you could feel them swaying with the wind... I can only imagine how awesome it would be to be rocked like that as you sleep or chill
Nice work
Awesome!
great job x
I would like more details on the bolts used to attach it to the tree, is there a link for them?
I would have had ladder open direct into living area and screened off the corner for shower/toilet area. That would make it perfect!
13:46 For a sec I thought I was in an independent horror movie.
I can quite envision this cabin inside a classic Ghibli's film. I picture a family. The two trees suddenly start growing exponentially breaking the cabin apart and completely changing the scenario around it.
Great to see this treehouse in a place that allows creativity. In the USA, the treehouse itself would be forbidden, the railings would be unacceptably low, and when someone falls, the tree house owner would lose his life's savings and future wages in a lawsuit. There, you fall, you die. The way it should be.
+coolkayaker1
You mean people have to be responsible for their own choices? Blasphemy!
***** Obviously, the law office you worked for, secretary, was not in the USA.
*****
Are you that guy that sued the dry cleaners for $65 Million?
*****
The idea of personal responsibility seems to annoy you.
*****
Now we are running in circles.
Cool
Thanks for sharing that truly wonderful tree house with us. There are shades of Tadao Ando in Yuichi with the his talk about creating the windows to frame views and the connection with nature. Not a Shoji in sight though!
Si tienen video de la construccion
Me gustaria verlo
Gracis
OK I thought I liked....Tiny Houses...( my wish from the 90's...and lived 'in' a shed )BUT this home is definitely ...the best place 'ever'.... ; )I would like to 'know' what type/kind/name of 'stove' he used....Inside and out ....loved the option....( didn't see a small gas tank soooo ?? ) Ok Ok I rewound it ..and he said 'gas' but ?? rice cooker ??
I see that you have changed your camera. What is the camera and lens that you used for this.
yes the tree compensates to stress,,,just like the wind forces,,,,,personally I would like to see a slightly larger tree..... suggestion ,,,their rooting sphere must not be compromised...below build a wooden walk way to reduce stress on rooting h=zhiroshere
+edsemaj me also heal branch wounds
I think to build another small treehouse and connect them with a walk way, and add on like that until you have all the space you want. Like Swiss Family Robinson :)
hahaha,,,,,good for you,,,,,,always dream.....my youth was spent in trees and building creations
From the buddhist point of view. Are these bolts in the tree trunk ok?
The siding is called live edge .
Earthquake proof?
hey man you have to secure those fenses on your tree hose put more stems there too much space among them, dengerous
Very difficult to calickulate the load bearing indeed
He’s got a British-American-Japanese accent! Hahahah
What happens for the toilet? 3 kids and 2 adults are never going to last all night.
There is a main house near by, and probably there is a village nearby..... Public bath is a common thing in Japan
I don't think they meant "where do you take a bath." They meant "where do you _go to the bathroom_ ".
I understand how expensive land is in Japan...
But tree house or not, how can you build a place for you to live called House and dont have a bathroom?
You get up in the middle of the night and piss out side of the window?
or Does he use a piss bottle?
There are numerous options for toilet and hygiene. His problem is not too different than what RVers and vanlifers have. Composting toilets, cassette toilets, or even a bucket with Kitty litter could solve that problem simply and easily.
The older I get the less I like tree houses. Trees should not be polluted and harmed with man-made structures.
+goldsilverandiamonds agreed, however it's better than deforesting to build a house.
Sanaa Chisley They still build tree houses with wood.
That is true
Then why bother watching the vid?
goldsilverandiamonds so you would prefer all houses to be built from non-renewable resources? What do y'all u think that would do to the environment?
:)
the tree got ripped bearing the tree house
we bod
man, your life looks terrible. i'm more than willing to take over your job so you don't have to stress out about travelling etc.
