Great video Jon! On par with my findings as well. Bead Maker is currently my top spray-on paint sealant for two major reasons: gloss and slickness. I was happy to see that in your tests, Bead Maker also beat the field in those two key aspects. I always tell my viewers that they should choose a product based on what factors are important to them. If you're looking at durability and chemical resistance, look elsewhere. If you're looking for gloss and slickness, Bead Maker is a go-to product. For me, as my cars all have base layers of ceramic coatings for durability and chemical resistance, I look for a topper that enhances gloss and slickness. So Bead Maker was an a revelation for me. :)

They are very close in performance, but Bead Maker still takes the edge for gloss and slickness. Durability they're about the same.
Nice of Jon to take the time to test these products against each other. I believe he is one of the the more honest detailing product reviewers out there.

I love bead maker. I wash my truck once a week and use the bead maker as a drying agent so the long durability isn't an issue for me because I apply it so often. Great video as always.
Big fan of Adams H2O, I get 3 months easy from the sealant. Using as a drying aid every second cleaning, helps me eliminate time consuming waxes and ceramics.
Professional detailers always inform us that when it comes to gloss and appearance, it's the selection of polish and its application is what makes the paint look great. These (LSP) products you are comparing are meant for protection, and that's where the category of durability and water repelling matter most.

requires a long statement to answer that, I can answer it mainly with some experience of this first hand through the channel and having talked to people with expertise on it. but short version. abrasives and polish deliver a highly refined finish to paintwork capable of taking the gloss levels up beyond 100 GU. And then that gloss would stay there forever in lab conditions or like stasis kind of thing. however driving the car, having it sit outside with contaminants falling on it, dirt splattering onto it, hitting it with detergents, other chems, wash contact rub, drying buffing etc.. all these things generally lower the gloss over time.. so yer protection products are supposed to sit between the paintwork and that "day in the life" of a car scenario and the environement and help to maintain the finish that the cars paintwork (in good condition) provides. nothing new there.
In terms of gloss dynamics though, the lower the natural gloss of the paintwork the more gloss (pound for pound) a product can add. the higher the base gloss the harder it gets for products to add gloss. And theres a tipping point believe it or not where products reduce gloss. Its something Ive explored in specific videos on the channels and talked about (could discuss why and talking about filling and leveling etc). Its something ill explore more if I can upgrade my equipement this year. but Im of the opinion based on some basic tests. that tipping point is somewhere close to 100 GU (maybe 95-100) but my kit is not really accurate. suspect its actually a bit higher.
Throwing all that theory out the window though.. put these products on your car and the car looks glossy and looks great (no real surprise there).. but sit there for a few days refining the paint on the car and that freshly polished pop on naked paint is as good in fact better than the gloss any product can give you. people also want that hit when they wash their cars, they want to "do" something more than just clean it i think. I think Im the same too, but maybe a detail spray is good for me, I dont know, these products maybe you want to be carefull about over applying stuff as well but thats a different discussion.

@@TomB1988 UV protection you get from the factory its mixed into the clearcoat to protect the paint. The creacoat itself is UV resistent. In detailing we put things on top of the clearcoat to protect it and to fill/level it to get more reflection. To do that we need sealants. As of now the best are SiO2 infused ones of various composition. You would never rely on "last stage" or "maintenance" products, reviewed here, alone to protect Your clearcoat. Therfore its not very important if they have UV protection or not. Cheers

Which of these attract less dirt? That should be one of the major points to discuss in the future? Some products are just awful how they attract dust immediately and therefore are no good in real life situations.

I will say I’m a PNS Bead maker user! And I love it! Worth every penny! Being an enthusiast I am. I wash and wax my car very often. So durability is good enough for me. The gloss and ease of application. And price! Do it for me!
Faris Ali Too bad that they are marketing it totally opposite than Sonax with their product. This doesn’t deliver manufacturer claims regarding longevity and should consider more like QD.
Saul Muñoz I guess you can look st it like a quick detailer. A super glossy one lol. For the price. And gloss. It’s pretty sweet. And it’s just just to apply. I hate sticky grabby products. I work out bro. And it’s still a pain in the ass buffing sticky stuff off.
I love this product my brother told me about sonax got me a bottle. It's crazy how long the water bead last for iv tried other products may get better gloss but bead for 2 weeks that's it.
Fusso Coat and BSD as topper/drying aid is a cheap and incredibly effective/good looking combo. It is the best solution to keep contamination low and great protection against swrils too. Been using it for 2 years on my daily driver (12K miles/year).
Great video Jon, I've noticed the same results out of Bead Maker as a standalone product. Great gloss and slickness, great ease of use, but below average hydrophobicity and surface tension durability. Used as a coating topper, the coating's hydrophobic performance is able to show through even though Bead Maker is on top, greatly improving the slickness to the overall layer and reviving a great deal of gloss and hydrophobic performance on weathered coatings especially. Would love to hear your thoughts as a coating topper, as so far the price is so much more affordable in the States for Bead Maker compared to topping standards like Cure, Reload, and my favorites like PA High Gloss and Cosmic Spritz, while easily outclassing them in slickness.
No surprise on the results for BSD, after all of these years this is still one of, if not my favorite detailing products I've tested.
Do you know if the water behaviour comes through on top of a wax or sealant? Not sure how it could manage this as it's leaving a layer on top of the base coat.

Yo waxmode, yer Im not sure about that topper point on ceramics, Ive shot another video on BM and a talk a little bit about this at the end. I think when BM is on top you could only get the hydrophobic effect of BM, I cant see how you could get the hydrophobic effect of whats below it, until it starts to erode, at least thats just theoretically speaking or thinking out loud, Im not saying your wrong there if thats what you have seen. Ive got some ceramic layed out on another test panel ill see if I can replicate it. The reason I might not use BM as a ceramic topper is I cant see the dirt repellency characteristics so much.. so like theres a lot of talk about the materials used in proper ceramic coatings, but part of the core function thats advertised by the speciality (non detailing) companies that engineer the raw materials used is dirt repellency, so the silazanes were specifically developed for this function. Modified forms of silicone or PDMS cant deliver that function as well generally, or there would be less point in having ceramics. With the 5 products in this test only one of them shows a level of dirt repellency that I can measure and its wet coat (I was expecting reload to deliver it as well because I think it does claim it, not sure if cure claims it). So if the panel is left outside all 4 of the other products die completly because they are buried in dirt (bsd and BM seem to get buried the most) but wet coat is the only one that is defeintly less buried and shows come self cleaning properties.
Im not 100% sure whats right or not but I think I would top a coating with a product that comes from a coating provider because other wise the risk is you bury a ceramic coating like you can if you plonk a wax on top of it. It will look cool and the fresh wax will repel water and stuff but you loose the surface characteristics of the coating, so you perhaps want to top with something that delivers you some of those properties. dunno Im thinking out loud again, suspect the reality is the car isnt going to blow up if you put beadmaker on top of a coating, just cant see enough "ceramic-esque" qualities from it beyond the fact it can bond to the coating.
You could also argue, these ceramic coatings are there to make your life easier and mean less car maintainance and less putting products on your car when you wash it.. Whats happening is guys "enjoy" putting product on their car when they wash it (including me) so like we are over protecting the cars perhaps (from a product POV). If your that type of guy then coatings are less beneficial perhaps.
@@BrianW1612 - Take Zymol Glasur for example, one of the most hydrophobic waxes in the short term that I have in my arsenal. Glasur + Bead Maker in the short term is much more hydrophobic than solo Bead Maker. However, Glasur by itself in the short term is much more hydrophobic than both Glasur + Bead Maker and Bead Maker solo. So there's definitely a hydrophobic hit with going with Bead Maker on Glasur when it's fresh. On weathered Power Lock+, Bead Maker was not able to repair it back to normal at the 2 month mark. Next week I'm testing on top of fresh FK1000P, Sonax PNS and Fusso Coat to see if get the same results as Glasur.
On the coatings, let's take classic CQuartz for example at 7 months. CQuartz + Bead Maker is noticeably slicker and more hydrophobic than the previous feeling and rinse of CQuartz by itself, and GREATLY more hydrophobic than Bead Maker by itself. So Bead Maker was able to repair CQuartz back to its near fresh short term performance at 7 months old, removing the impact of the hard water contamination. Similar results with Mohs, Gyeon One, and the Blackfire Pro coatings, awesome maintenance performance so far after about 6-7 months of them being on the paint without previous toppers and this performance has lasted after a few months from being topped with Bead Maker.
What I'm working on testing now is fresh short term coating performance to see if Bead Maker really reduces the hydrophobic potential of a fresh coating, CQUK 3.0 is my tester, I'm giving it a week to cure and then I'll dump Bead Maker on top. I applied it over fresh Blackfire Pro with great repairing results but it was heavily contaminated with hard water spotting at that point. Seems like it's very good at repairing coatings for the price so far.
@@WaxMode it's so strange as it really shouldn't be the case. It isn't even a product of the same chemical background as a coating so how it is managing this I really don't understand.
Even stranger is it has more of a negative impact on waxes/sealants from the sounds of it than coatings. Not at all what you would expect lol!
I can see sales of Sonax BSD going through the roof now and rightly so! I was so looking forward to a comparison like this. BSD remains the most understated king of detailing products IMO.
I just bought two of them for that reason alone LOL. Hope I can get the same results.

You know it by now, Jon is never trying to make you buy this or that. Really trying to investigate about every aspect of a product. I will try bead maker knowing that what I'm looking for right now, is shine, which is hard to get on a white car! Not believing it is some kind of miracle product. Will I blindly buy a gallon like everybody seems to recommend ? Nope! Before even trying it ?? Each of us has different expectations, and these videos really help. Will probably watch over again. I’ve been using bead make for 4 months now(I couldn’t resist and paid the premium of taxes and shipping )wile the duration of a product is important it becomes irrelevant in this kind of products if you use it regularly (most of us wash a car at least once a month)
Personally I wash the car every 2 weeks and using very little bead maker as drying aid the duration it becomes virtually unlimited (like with most of the products tested here) with the main advantage of a great gloss and slickness plus it is compatible with most of main protection your car have
I will start with this: I have not used Wet Coat, H2O Guard and Gloss or Sonax BSD. I just purchased bead maker and applied it to 1 vehicle. Personal durability test is TBD since it's winter here in the Midwest ( USA ). The owner of the vehicle has washed it 3 times since application ( 1 month ago ). As for reload, ceramic coatings don't provide a "slick" feel and I thought that per the instructions applying reload after Cquartz provided a slick feel. I've coated 4 vehicles with Cquartz UK and UK 3.0 and applied Reload afterwards. Seems to be holding up well as a topper / sacrificial layer over the coating itself. I appreciate the in depth reviews on your channel Keep them coming !
Gyeon Wet Coat delivers for me mainly for the ease of application and mainly used in the winter months for me. Great video as always Jon.
Been using wet coat and for me it's perfect. Lasts a long time and you can feel it's still there when washing. Just got to rinse well and quickly. I literally just use this and no other protection.
Bsd I don't like the way it goes tacky and grabby. Gloss isn't as good either. No denying it's a good performer and great value though!
Brilliant video Jon. Good to get a video that involves Bead (Un)Maker that is actually factual and honest. Too many have been nothing more than funded adverts as far as I am concerned.
Only further confirms for me personally Bead Maker isn't a product I need or want.

@@ForensicDetailing I like my products to bead and sheet strong Jon. For me that totally kills any possibility of using it as it would kill the hydrophobicity of the product underneath.
I genuinely think bead maker is like the new v107 that chemicals guys had. That stuff was alllllllll the rage a few years ago. Everyone and their grandma was washing and wiping after with v07, even me lol. But for some reason I get that same feeling from bead maker. V07 didnt sheet water very well for anyone who remembers.
@@Jackieletits not chemically at least. V7 to me was just like a detail spray. I could never figure out how it was some sort of revolutionary sealant hybrid erm "thing" I kind of remember saying something like this years ago in the detail spray review. couldnt really see that much different to it and speed wipe. wasnt bad or anythig just couldnt understand why it was so expensive, wasnt that much measurable protective performance with V7 like you say. god knows how that became so popular.

For the past few years I have used WetCoat as my go-to in the winter when washing isnt always guaranteed every week. The biggest advantage comes after an hour or so when you cant feel your fingers & ready to get the car done, saves loads of time without sacrificing protection.

Tried Bead Maker this past summer, found it bonds rather well to Collinite 845 as a "topper". Will most likely be my preferred method in the spring/summer months. Collinite gives you that extended protection and then Bead Maker fills the gap for gloss, making it a killer combo.
I live in Wisconsin and we have terrible winters with salt covering our vehicles for roughly 6 months. I applied Adams H20 Guard and Gloss on a customers vehicle in the fall and detailed it again in the spring and it was still on the paint just fine. I was surprised

I'm a huge fan of Beadmaker because when you first use it the slickness is immediate! Then when dried/buffed the gloss is there but it's when it fully cures is where the WOW factor comes in, INCREDIBLE! I bought the 16 oz size initially but then went ahead and bought the gallon. I see my self using this product more and more once cars and coffee season starts back up because it makes my Abarth finished in Nero metallic GLOW. Its it's easy to apply, both dry and wet but when you apply initially it's better to go heavy and dry, I myself didn't do this because I wanted to try something different. Going forward, dry is really best, if I wanna do something wet I'll grab my WetCoat or Adam's Guard and Gloss.
Per this review though, I'm going to order the Sonax product right now, thanks John🇺🇸

Have gallon of beadmaker as smaller bottles out of stock when hype train landed in the UK. Very easy on and off I find it does actually bead really well and has lasted couple months so far on my car. Jury is out on why it needs so heavy an application on first go, doesn't make much sense but I'm no chemist. Just put it on the gfs car with much less product and looks nice still, durability we will tell. Wet coat is great going to use it with Mf spread method next hopefully for longevity/even coverage and less product waste.
If sonax reformulated BSD to be more slicker and kept the repellency it would be probably the top product.
I think its something to do with the specific material they are using, and its probably a surface characterisitc of that material.. so there might not be an easy fix, if they use other materials it prolly wont be as epic. the industry are still at the mercy of the large speciality chem companies above them for raw materials.
This review couldn't be more spot on in terms of the P&S Bead Maker and Sonax BSD (only two I have tried). I use P&S Bead Maker as a topper on my Lexus RX 350. It's topping Adams paint sealant and Meguiars carnauba wax. BM leaves an insane slick surface and gloss that I have never seen before in a sealant spray but that slickness doesn't remain after one wash. After one wash it is tuff to tell how much hydrophobics it retains because of other agents on the paint. I just did a quick waterless wash on the hood using an Adams product, then added Sonax BSD and it's a very different spray in terms of gloss and slickness but the hydrophobics is incredible. They are both so good at opposing tasks I find that I will use Sonax BSD once per month as a topper and BM every other month to retain some shine.
Great comparison. Well documented and covers all aspects of why you would buy them. I have a few issues with your scientific process. Surface friction is known as the Coefficient of Friction. How spraying onto a wet panel and then immediately washing off is not the easiest way to apply protection, I don’t know what is. I have carried out tests on all of these on my own cars, except for Sonax. I have recently undergone spinal surgery and find standing and stooping to be the most difficult actions still. Gyeon Wet Coat is far and away easier to apply than Adam’s Guard & Gloss or any other product I have to rub into the panels of the car or rub off. It’s so easy I’m giving some to my daughter to apply to her car with the simple instructions. Your excuse for it’s issue with not liking the sun is difficult to comprehend. I’m in Sydney Australia and during 33°C summer days, THE CAR IS WET so there is no issue if you move panel by panel. Even if a panel is dry, you have your hose/pressure washer in one hand bottle in the other. I applied it to 2 cars in less than 10 minutes. Rant over.
Bead maker looks sad as a standalone hydrophobicity-wise. I love BSD, wet-coat (although it’s really expensive in the US), and just tried Megs HCW today and liked it as well. Very hydrophobic, you should try it out :)
Edit: By the way, the pricing is very different in the US. Wish I could get wet coat and BSD that cheap!
So I'm a year into the detail seen and without seeing this video I got the guard and gloss. After seeing it I'm still glad I did. It's easy to work with and I use it every 3 or 4 washes
I've just noticed that someone has given this review a thumb's down next to the thumb's up........WHY......Jon has given his honest opinion about these 5 products.the good and bad things about them.i can't see what that person did not like about that review.

Forensic Detailing Channel, length of Video in theory should not matter, if the content is engaging enough. I watched all of it, as do most sane adults when there are comparisons to observe. A test is a Test ! A product has to be Number 1 and another number 5.
Some people just have a short attention span.
Bead Maker for me, I just love that ultra slick feel it gives.

@@VeteranDetailif you imagine viewers as one big entity, that entity generally does not like going beyond 10 minutes. Even less maybe 7 minutes. The you tube rule book says no long videos, and retention stats support what the rule book says. Doing anything beyond 10 minutes is generally pointless if your aim is to have it viewed or maximise its chance to go viral and its viral content which drives you tube channels primarily. if I was interested in views and doing short content for the wider you tube audience I would just hire a model for some 0-60 low cut top car pulls, and start doing "5 things I hate about my car" content. You can get more growth and views that way but your following is then generally a different crowd. If I can get to say 100k subs doing it my way and resisting all that stuff than thats one hell of an achievement. cheers for positive feedback as well veteren its much appreciated.
Forensic Detailing Channel , John yes the TUBE keeps changing the goal posts. Longer video benefit them as they can place Adverts in, but the ads have the effect of getting viewers to switch off. I agree with you, just make content that is informative, dedicated viewers and subscribers will watch because they want the information. A minor milestone for me was hitting 💯 subs to my Channel yesterday (Slow And steady)😉

I use BSD for the durability and beading but I actually noticed without even thinking it to start with that the next morning my car was actually more shiny than Ive ever seen it so it definitely does something!
Besdmaker takes it for me! It's all about gloss and slickness like what Pan said. True enough BSD is very hydrophobic and durable. But the feel of the surface after application just disappoints me. I'll take gloss and slickness any day over beads and durability.
Tremendous review! As a detailer I use Bead Maker on MOST vehicles I work on. First application is always heavy as you mentioned and after that I literally use it as a "spray wax." With 2 to 3 sprays per panel, that brings it back in all its glory... it's a hydrophilic product along with hydrophobic which can explain the water response... I'm extremely curious about Wet Coat. Think that's my next review! Cheers 😁
Not surprised by your results, excellent review. Having used BSD a lot it always performs and lasts. Just tried Bead Maker for the first time and blown away by the gloss and slickness of this product. I think your suggestion that Bead Maker may well be the one to use in summer looks well founded. I mean just keep topping the stuff up for the glossiest, slickest finish ever?
AAh finaly Beadmaker in europe, i have seen this on the Rag Company vids and realy wanted it but... i didn't anticipaded that it scored so low on durabilty in comparison with the other allready known products! Thanks John to make this video!!
Thanks, I carried out a bit if testing over Xmas. Reload, ech2o, C2v3, hydrolite2. Gloss measured by eyeball, hydrolite was looking the clear winner.
Water behaviour hydrolite was in a different league, giving fusso levels of sheeting.
Saying that will give BM a try shortly.

Awesome video Jon! I have both the Bead Maker and Car Pro Reload and agree entirely with your results. Neither one seems to protect the vehicle's paint for more than a couple weeks, although Bead Maker does give the car a great gloss. I thought they would last for several months but that was not the case. I don't have a ceramic coating on my vehicle yet and was trying different products to see which worked the best. I appreciate your comments and love the video.
Bead maker is $32 USD which Google says is just under 25 pounds. Love bead maker. I don't use nearly as much as people say you need to even on the base layer and I get awesome results. Best bang for you buck imo.
Ya for two bottles of 750mls bsd where I live is same price as gallon of bead maker.... So.. Bead maker seems to be best deal
I feel like beadmaker is a true detail spray. It's designed to make the car look good right now. BSD, from what I understand, is just cut down PNS. Both add depth and gloss, but they're more sealant than gloss enhancer.
Bead maker would make a good topper to use before a meet or a car show to pull out a little bit of gloss and sickness. It's a niche product, but it serves its purpose well.
Jon, for me I wouldn't be using any of these as a stand alone, but for topping a ceramic coating, so durability isn't really the main focus, so much as gloss and dust repellency are, Also I'm applying the product at the least once a month, my main objective for results are to give the coating maximum gloss throughout 12 months, like that just waxed look but with a drying aid and without product build up, like bsd is known for.
Would love to see beadmaker vs carpro elixir for contact angle and gloss.
I think im of the same opinion. Most will use these as toppers. beadmaker will loose in terms of contact angles and stuff, but I bet it would win on gloss from what Ive seen. I wouldnt use BSD on a coating, it has no dirt repellency so you mask your coating with a material that kills the main advantage of having a coating (easy maintainance). wet coat has the best dirt repellency of all these products in my opinion. I talk about this soon actually in another vid.
Forensic Detailing Channel Dirt repellency is one of the most important things to me also. Sonax PNS is one of the best for that regard if we aren’t including coatings
BSD is an unbelievable product for the money. I'll always have a bottle in my arsenal.
Great video I prefer bead maker after thirty plus years experience in the detailing industry I have never seen a product that gives such shine and slickness
I use BSD for the winter and Koch Chemie FSE for the summer . Shame FSE was not in the vid.
You ought to try Optimum Car Wax. Key points: carnauba warm look and replenishing of UV inhibitors. I use it as a drying agent every time a car is washed.
yer I ve tried it, its nice, squirt spread haze'n'buff works well.. but I sort of kept spray waxes out of the mix for this, I think I just stuck 5 in I had really.
I use BSD as a drying aid and find this works best. Also use it over G3 Supergloss wax with great results.
Very comprehensive review as always Jon. I've been using McKees 37 hydro blue for a year and while it does not bead like Sonax it does give great shine and durability.
Great comparison! I'd heard a lot of hype about BeadMaker but was skeptical. In Canada its stupidly priced. Not sure I'd try it due to cost alone. These were very good comparisons! Thanks again for taking the time to do such an in depth review!

@@ForensicDetailing it's anywhere from 15.00 to 29.00 depending on where we can get it from. Most of the other products and sealants I use are at about the 10.00 mark...less if I buy in a gallon container.
I have a love / hate relationship with Sonax BSD...
I love the price, the beading, the durability but I hate the way it makes the paint feel. If found it’s better to apply with a slightly damp microfibre pad.
Thank you for this thoughtful in depth review. You do a great job of explaining all of the positives and negatives of the products anyone may find any of them to be the best based on their situation and what they want from it.
I'm especially amazed by how Beadmaker did not live up to the hype of actually making beads! I watched a certain other UA-cam personality, possibly the most subscribed on UA-cam, gushing over beadmaker and getting literally giddy over how well it supposedly does over any other products. Maybe he honestly had different results, but it lowers his credibility in my mind.
You mention that you only need to apply these every 2-6 months depending on the product. I'm curious what drying aid you use during maintenance washes when not applying these type of products.
I use Bilt hamber qd concentrate. diluted 1 to 20 so a litre vista me like 30p rather than 20 quid.
I use BSD, and haven't used any of the others in the test. I agree with the great beading and longevity, but I think the grabiness can lead to superfine dirt steaks especially on white paint more quickly.
Try mixing it with another detailer like Last Touch. 30/70 ratio adds a lot more slickness. I'd be tempted to mix Beadmaker and BSD, any thoughts Jon?
All of the products seem interesting! I personally am addicted to Reload. I do a base layer every 6 months or so, and then top up every 2-3 washes as a drying aid.

yo cheers, what are sonax using in BSD :) some modified form of silicone probably, could go SDS stalking but it will only give you a vague hint. whatever it is I dont think other companies are using it which is cool its kind of easy to spot it in a lot of their sealant products because of that feel. they prolly have a good chemical formulator there that went searching for raw materials back in the day and found something cool.
Meguiars sythetic spray wax in my opinion is one of the best product still on the market.i use it after every wash as drying aid and it beads so well. 1 gallon cost like €30 .This my go💪
I love BSD and Gyeon Wetcoat, get vid thanks John. I think bead maker for me doesn't tick enough boxes and it's up against some strong completion for that price. I would rather megs ultimate quick wax for slickness and it has durability.
Breadmaker is my go to right now but what they don't tell you is that you have to use Half the bottle on your vehicle so you can get a good foundation on it . I've been experimenting with gray masterson's mystery glaze as a topper. Iam getting a awesome crazy type of glow.
I used a third actually but yer I could have done like a half for an initial application perhaps on a saloon or if Id used more.. but yes this is a negative and I did dock it a mark or a place on value because of that.. in the USA its so cheap would be less of an issue.. in the UK not a major issue perhaps but yer still relevant, if you dump half the bottle on first application.

One thing about beadmaker that you did not mention is that it can be used at a topper and will bond with any other product and can be used as a sacrificial coat. Makes it very usable to put on top of wax or a sio2 product.
Brilliant stuff yet again Jon, thank you. I’m a long time user of BSD and 100% agree with your assessment. I’m just about to give Wet Coat a try so it’s got a tough act to follow! BSD for £10 a bottle really is a no brainier for me.
Plus you can dilute it with water without any loss of quality.
beadmaker results on gloss are impressive. those number seems close to what a wax could achieve. I don't know if the smoothness of the paint is really an important criteria for me, i don't touch the paint outside of when i have to clean it. I'm glad you test it in proper condition. I'm thinking of giving it a try after my bottle of qd is done.

Thanks for the video Jon. I'm sticking with my BSD, still got 5L to get through. I'm mixing it with Chemical Guys v7 50/50 ratio. When I've used that I'll try a 50/50 mix with Chemical Guys speed wipe. Or Imay play around with different ratios.

Quite a few hobbyists are mixing Sonax BSD with another glossier product like Adams detail spray and coming up with some great results, mixture is 50:50. I guess Sonax BSD and Beadmaker could be a good mix...depends if they mix well together.

Great review. I use Sonax BSD and agree that it's grabby but love the beading and for me that's what I prefer. Wet coat is great for quickness but still prefer the routine of spraying and buffing! If only Sonax BSD could be less grabby but I suspect that's what makes it the water repellent King!👑

I always spray BSD on a wet car, then dry. I can see how it'd be grabby on a dry panel. Sonax have some awesome products: spray and seal, polymer netshield being two others.

Gyeon Wet Coat was my first spray like this that I bought. Based on your recommendation actually. I even used your technique of applying it with the microfiber pad. I love it.

First off, the product test was so objective, you miss nothing Jon. I too am going with Gyeon Wet Coat after your praises ? Microfibre application - is this what you refer to in the product test when you said of Wet Coat * quote "I don't use this they way that they describe...".
Finally a proper review!! I’ve used most products there except Adams. I liked gyeon and car pro for ease of use. Sonax was a good all rounder. I’ve recently started using bead maker which has excellent slickness and shine to it, I’ve noticed the car stays cleaner for longer as well. But can’t say about duration yet. As a rule of thumb for duration I always say whatever it says the durability is on the bottle, half it for real world conditions.

Very interesting to see Pan The Organiser here, he is the reason that I am here in the first place with all his excellent videos that got me interested in this avenue of detailing. Jon and Pan are both at the top of their game in this area of testing and reviews. As a result I have just ceramic coated one of my cars (CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0) last weekend and about to apply P&S Beadmaker as a top/sacrificial coat for the base layer. As Pan has so rightly pointed out, it will be used to compliment what is already on the car, the gloss and slickness being the most important addition for me. If it were being used as a standalone product, then I agree, probably the Sonax would be a better option. Excellent work Jon :-)
Im still on the fence about beadmaker sitting ontop of a ceramic coating. BSD I would not use ontop of a coated car. when you put a coating down part of the reason for having it is that the materials used in the coating offer more self cleaning and dirt repellency than waxes, other tradition polymer sealants etc.. When you then top a coating with a sealant you bury those properties and replace them with the properties of product on top. BSD is very bad on dirt repellency (have a watch of my latest video on best of show detailer and mould in my seats). Beadmaker Im struggling to see self cleaning properties as well. To be honest Im struggling to see them with the bloody silica sprays though. I can see them with the water wet coat style products, and these do specifically state in the product claims "self cleaning" effect. Im not sure how important all of this is. But if in doubt I would follow the instructions from your coating provider in how best to maintain the coating. maintaining the coating properly is really important.
@@ForensicDetailing Very interesting and valid points and I can see your argument about masking the properties of the underlying coat. Interesting also to read WaxMode's reply below where he says that the underlying coatings hydrophobic qualities are still able to show through BeadMaker. This is where your channel comes in, test it and unravel this witchcraft for us all ;-)
@@accobra383 yer thats unusual. I think that the spray products must be mixing slightley with the materials underneath it. If its say a wax. nothing else would explain that.
@@ForensicDetailing Well, just applied P&S BeadMaker and it's hard to describe. How can anything be that shiny!!!!! Granted I put a lot of prep into it before I applied the CQuartz, but even still, its absolutely mental. I now understand Pan the Organizer being totally speechless when he first tried it. I would probably be applying it every few washes or so, so longevity is not an issue for me. I have also tried lots of waxes and detailers but nothing comes close to Beadmaker. A solid thumbs up from me. Thank you Jon and Pan for helping me make this decision. :-)

I find Wet Coat works the best with a pressure washer and the paint needs to be cool to the touch. Tried using it as a drying aid after a no rinse wash and that was a pain to buff off.

BSD 50/50 with QD is amazing for me, last long enough and I picked up some bottles for about £6.50 each!
Used to swear by BSD but have tried Beadmaker this weekend and I'm blown away how slick and glossy the paint is. It hasn't rained yet so can't comment on beading

Forensic Detailing Channel I’ve been using bead make for 4 months now(I couldn’t resist and paid the premium of taxes and shipping )wile the duration of a product is important it becomes irrelevant in this kind of products if you use it regularly (most of us wash a car at least once a month)
Personally I wash the car every 2 weeks and using very little bead maker as drying aid the duration it becomes virtually unlimited (like with most of the products tested here) with the main advantage of a great gloss and slickness plus it is compatible with most of main protection your car have
Same here, wash as often as possible (no kids/wife so tons of time!), the beadmaker is just so easy to work with, the gloss is just amazing
Have you thought about mixing them together and see if the marry up well?
After watching your video I bought a bottle of Sonax and have been trying it for about 2 weeks. I've found that compared to something like Maguires it feels sticky and the cloth tends to drag across the surface instead of gliding.
yep thats the thing Im not too keen on. I guess like ultimately its a liquid so you can squirt and spray and some peeps dont care. but its justa bit glumpy and sticky. but also after you have applied it if you like touch the paint you can feel that resistence. other products not just beadmaker, but things like griots BOS detailer etc just have this silky smooth finish and thats important to me. dont know why, but like when they feel smooth and silky to the touch they typically buff smoother as well.
@@ForensicDetailing Agree. Years ago, a guy who used to win all the local concors shows told me 'Your car is ready when you see flys loose their footing on the paintwork'.
I use Gyeon wet coat...but only though the winter months.Works really well as a Maintenance top up coat as l have Gyeon Q2 Duraflex...
I really rate Bouncers Bead juice,quite durable too seen it beading after 10 weeks.
i really like geon wet coat due to the ease of application. spray and rinse...leaves super slick and glossy finish in my opinion.
Very interesting results indeed. I actually think that WetCoat looks WAY better than Reload. Just goes to show that personal preference doesn't beat the gloss meter :)
I’ve just splashed out on some bead maker and plan to use it on top of my fusso soft 99 for extra gloss and slickness with a plan to use it every second wash .
It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to my sonax bsd ( for gloss) which I love even though the bsd will blow it away on durability .
Sonax bsd for door jams ect and bead maker for the outside is my plan 👍

These type of products have been my favourite to use over the last ten years, so a really interesting video for me and an excellent review ! I've used Sonax BSD, WetCoat and Gtechniq C2 (diluted) and these three are my current favourites in order - (i) C2, (ii) Wetcoat, and (iii) BSD. I like your advice at the end of perhaps using Beadmaker in the Summer months for its gloss and will give it a try, although I do like good sheeting/beading properties which lets it down a bit for me.
Ive had poor results with C2, really really really poor results. Was talking about it the other day on facebook. Im convinced (but dont know) ive like had bad batches of it or something. because I cannot get any protection performance out of it at all.. Its just been basically like a detail spray for me. (theres actually a bit more to it than that ive had 3 different bottles of it over the last 3 years, 2 of the bottles had very low protective properties, 1 of the bottles was half decent. I need to try it again but like I say Im almost certain Ive had like duff batch or something.
F A N T A S T I C video! Thanks! I am more of a sonax kind of zombie, and sometimes I hate the lack of slickness of the BSD. However after a couple of days of curing, I top it with sonax speedprotect spray wax. Same as BSD a little product goes a long way, and it is super slick and glossy. Both products play extremely well together, you should give it a try. Anyways, your tests are fantastic and very thorough, thanks!
Beadmaker is my go to for it's gloss. I wash quite a bit and have to have that pop when I'm finished.

This is great content! An idea for a test: soil resistance. Maybe use things that might stick to paint instead of the things that clean it? I'm thinking things like engine oil, sawdust, clay-heavy dust, salt, grime, bug guts, bird droppings. Obviously, some would be too expensive or impossible to simulate, but that's just the beginning of an idea.
I think Sonax may have listened to you. I ordered some bsd and some fine spray bottles because of what you said about the spray quality. I mixed it into three bottles in various mixes inc’ 50/50 with angelwax qed and 50/50 water. However on testing the spray quality of the original bsd bottle it seems really good👍
great to see paul, the bottle I have kind of spits. they can say its all in the pump, ive heard people say give it a short sharp pump and it fans out and draws or mists a bit more etc.. nah its just a poor sprigger tray period. millions of decent ones out there should be a priority for companies to really think about the spray triggers a bit more. as much as companies prolly hate you tubers for talking about bad things, some will maybe listen and think yer we need to sort that. I doubt its because of this channel though everyones been saying the spray bottles are awefull for a long while. but thats good news. sonax stuff I think roxs, very credible cool brand with unique interesting and often very good value detailing products.
Forensic Detailing Channel. I was being firm with it and it was only water in it so that may be why. I agree the spray is important, I use acf50 for waterproofing my bike and the spray bottle they provide is rubbish.

Firstly im super thankful for you carrying out this comparision... I think you covered the main internet heroes but mainly the fact you put bead maker in was important.
That product has been around for a couple of years but in the last couple of months theres been a crazy amount of publicity. The way you conducted your test methodology as always was really informative and it was good to see BSD reviewed to that same standard.
I particualry enjoyed the test where a strong APC was used as these types of product are usually used in the winter months where tfr and typically used alot more. Really interesting to see those results.
So thanks for doing what your doing it makes my life so much easier to watch one of your vids instead of trawling through the forums.
Also its fairly common to aid the lubricity of BSD by mixing in other detail sprays but I wonder if bead maker and BSD would be a good mix?
hey I appreciate that Tom, the scene is heavily influenced by a handfull of sources, every channel has the ability to serve its viewers, the industry or itself in different measures and where a channel sits in that pyramid says a lot. This video is supposed to be factual an unbiased and talk about pros and cons of all the products. BSD and beadmaker could be interesting although i think even if it doesnt mess with the beadmaker hardening/cure it might make it sticky, and beadmaker is all about the silkly slippy feel for me. I would personally use bead maker all day long over BSD, but I have a real respect for what BSD does and the value it provides.. marking the products on test criteria also helps me remove personal preference due to what "im" looking for in a product, and instead provider a broader view.
It suprised me that gyeon wetcoat was nr2 on slickness. Thats good for a wetcoat. I use wetcoat on the wheels after washing. Sonax seems to be quite good for the money
once the car has been applied after wet coat, wait like an hour and then feel the paintwork. you can also do the imfamous bottle test.. definetly nice and slick for me.

Very informative and thorough video as usual. It's great to see an old favourite of mine (bsd) perfom so well in your tests. I've always found it a bit "grabby " but for it's price it's always going to be in my collection of detailing products.
I think where the products can be used as a top up then this opens up a different scale of effectiveness. Such as your recommendation of the wet coat over the tac systems moonlight. I have used the sonax polymer net shield as a base with the bsd as a maintenance-quick-detailer in the past with good longevity.

BSD is an excellent product. I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this but the only problem I find with it is built up dirt sitting on it (usually on the lower half’s of the sides) seems to totally kill it i.e. it won’t show any beading at all after the car has been cleaned yet the areas that did't have much dirt continues to bead really well.
hey dan I talk about this in another video I just shot. BSD does get totally masked by dirt (lots of things do), wet coat doesnt (or not as much). so like that test panel in this video. sat outside for about a month now. BSD section dead etc.. then I wash it all back and BSD comes alive again just like it is on application. waxes etc and lots of things are like this. Its one of the reasons I like wet coat, it helps keep the car cleaner.

@@sunmode3205 have a watch of a video I drop soon on griots garage detail spray. I just show water behaviour of that panel a month after, before cleaning it. very hard to shoot a full video compariing diret repellency comparison. some of this stuff you need a lab to compare really.
@@ForensicDetailing Yeah BSD does seem to be particularly sensitive to dirt sitting on it. As you say, beading of all protective products will drop off with dirt on them and when you clean the car the beading will generally come back as the dirt is not blocking the water from interacting with the treated surface but I’m finding with BSD it isn’t coming back on the dirtiest areas on the car once it has been cleaned, it’s like the built up dirt is killing it or significantly reducing its longevity. It maybe the way I apply it, I generally apply it during the drying process so it is probably becoming a bit overly diluted by the time I get down to the lower areas but still I’m certain the dirt sitting on it is effecting the longevity as the contrast of the strength on beading is huge and the drop off is precisely on the areas that had the greater build-up of dirt.

What’s your opinion on possibly using a combination of two products in a similar category to try and bring out the strong points of each? Like using the Sonex as a base coat of sorts, then followed by the BeadMaker product. The Sonex creating the hydrophobic properties and the BeadMaker giving gloss and slip. I realize the top coat would potentially negate the bottom coat properties, or would it.....🤔?
hey steve thanks mate. yer you wouldnt combo any of these products really or I wouldnt. You would look to use them as toppers to a more durable base protection product. So if the base is ceramic, i would look at reload or wetcoat to top (you could argue BM as well perhaps) but I wouldnt top a ceramic with BSD nor h2o because they will mask they ceramic and just give you surface characsteristics that they provide, so you might loose the self cleaning dirt repellency thing. So theres so many combos its hard to say but typically paste wax base+ spray wax topper always works. Baseline sealant like sonax polymer netshild gonna team up with BSD well... etc.. if in doubt combo products perhaps from the same brands. one of my favorte combos is TAC moonlight topped and maintained with gyeonwet coat. just like the simplicity of it. its a bit like have a coated car without the application worries.... beadmaker is worth trying you can top anything with it. just a nice product to use and looks awesome. cheers mate
I started out using beadmaker when it came out. I found it slick and glossy. However after it gets driven in rain a few times, all that is pretty much gone and it has to be reapplied.
I dont think its gone, but it certain looses its surface slickness does it.. basically yes I love it for that fresh dressed hit and silky paint..
Tell you what try car pro Elixir. Once you get a feel for it, its also leave a slick finish but its very hydrophoibic and it lasts out really well.
What a great review of these products,they all have different things about them,i would probably have the Sonax one as I seen this one popping up,the bead maker is one quite recent ive saw.all depends what you want and price.
