I like growing things knowing that they will fruit, and in today's world, I can't tell what's been messed with to the point that the seeds will grow but not produce fruit. I've searched in a few stores and the rootstock alone was more expensive than a grafted moon cactus! I have a huge 7-8 years old moon cactus with a dozen of baby scions. I've successfully grafted 3, but I don't have any rootstocks left. I guess it's time to buy a dragon fruit!
I just use a spray bottle. Just until the soil is moist and they dry out pretty quickly I notice so I’ve been doing it everyday. Mine are about a month old now and so far they look good.

It took my seeds for ever to sprout in water in a Petri dish. I finally got them to sprout but were so tiny I had to use reading glasses to get them into dirt. I’ve had them in dirt for a week and bought a grow light but I hear you say they aren’t in to bright lights. These tiny guys are maybe still a 1/4 to maybe a 1/2 inch. Is that normal? I’m thrilled to have any growing but I don’t do things like this so I’ll watch your videos and hopefully these guys will make it! Thanks for the help.
I don't know if I didn't remove the flesh from the seed, but I did the water method and the dirt method. The dirt method has 5 sprouted with the cactus coming through the middle and only 1 of the water method seed has produced a yellow root I guess. It has been about 3 weeks.
Do dragon fruit have to grow to full size before they will fruit or can you keep it pruned to a manageable size and still have them fruit? I wouldn’t have space in my house for a giant fully grown plant.

You have very interesting videos 👍🙌 I've sown the seeds straight into a container on propagating sand from Bunnings. It didn't take long for the seeds to germinate 😂 Thanks for the video, I will transplant them into a big pot, since it takes so long for them to grow to a desent size. Do you keep them warm in the winter? Cause I think people are growing them outside, here in Auckland. 🤔
I kept them in a sealed plastic container with soil and holes on lid and they grew. Now that they germinated should I remove the lid. I was creating a mini greenhouse

Hey anyone out there have experience drying the seeds and planting later? I found a dragon fruit in October which wasn’t the right time to plant so I waited and now am trying some are in soil and I’m not sure if they sprouted or it’s just weeds. Any advice would be appreciated!!!
Hi Daniel, yes you can dry the seeds and plant later with dragonfruit. The fresher the better but they should last at least several months. Feel free to send me a pic of them over on Instagram or Facebook and I can help you ID them :)
A good quality potting mix should work well :). You can always mix in a little cactus mix for additional drainage, though dragonfruit are a jungle cactus so can handle more water than many other types of cactus, therefore regular good quality potting mix is adequate :).
+TheKiwiGrower Hey bro, not sure if these are true to type or not (I know that they can grow true to type)............But they look like the Hylocereus/Selenicereus megalanthus, the yellow dragonfruit species. Did you manage to buy a yellow dragonfruit fruit somewhere in NZ?
Cool - I've only ever seen the red one that has the white pulp in Christchurch. Yeah yellow ones would be great! I'm surprised the yellows are not imported into NZ - cause i've heard that they're one of the sweetest and most satisfying.
@@yamaha550xz They were just at New World supermarket. They have them there every once in a while. I'm not to sure about growing those ones though, due to the fact they may have been exposed to radiation, etc for "biosecurity", which cause genetic mutations. There are some good sellers online (eg: thailandplant.com) who may be able sell you dragonfruit seeds of many different species/varieties, along with the phytosanitary certificate which will help them clear NZ biosecurity. Email the seller to arrange it - I think phyto cost around $10-15. It's wise to get them sent with phytosanitary cert, because without it, NZ biosecurity may destroy them. Also they must be sent with full botanical names on seed packets and "seeds", or "seeds for sowing" must be written on the outside of the main package. Check MPI biosecurity index to make sure they're listed as "basic". Then check the MPI "import health standard" to see if it says anything specific in regards to importing the seeds. You can download the seeds for sowing IHS is from the mpi website. Best wishes!

My dragon fruit grew very big in 8 months but the botom is very weak and woboly and i have to suport them . How do you deal with this issue ?

I cut a slice of the fruit and put it into a pot with loose soil. It has little shoots coming up now.
