"Elf" has always, and still to this day, been one of our family favorites! We watch it almost every year. Two things I love about this movie is that 1.) It reminds me of other movies like "Enchanted", "Coming to America", and "Little Nicky" where the main character is from a completely different world and, out of all places, ends up going to the biggest city in America. And 2.) James Caan's character reminds me of the character Mr. Banks in "Mary Poppins". He's a workaholic family man who is kept away from his loving family and held prisoner by his stressful job and selfish boss. All he needed was some humor and positive energy (Which he's not used to at first) to wake up and realize that his family is more important than anything in the world. In the end, he eventually had enough courage and righteousness to quit his terrible job and spend more time with his family when they needed him.
