It seems like all of my favorite YT creators owe Area Diesel Service a case of beer for all the free tech support. Sounds like a great company and good people to know.

      How do you know ADS?
I only know them from the ytchannels they cooperate with.
So that's pretty good advertisement for ADS, don't you think?
      And that's worth something too...

Sam, I'm gonna say the same thing I said to Matt at Diesel Creek some time ago; I, for one, appreciate that you don't edit out your mistakes! It shows us that we all flub things up every now & then. I also liked the fact that you can laugh at yourself afterward. Very glad you got the issues straightened out & look forward to watching whatever comes next.

Just a note about maintenance. I managed a fleet of over the road trucks for a bunch of years. Our policy was whenever a truck came into the shop
for any maintenance that involved and interaction with belts, my mechanics had standing instructions to replace them all, regardless of condition. Hoses, same.
It is cheap insurance. I would rather replace a belt in my shop than 1,000 miles from home on the side of the road. That Volvo was begging
you to change the belts while you had access and it was in your shop, not out on a jobsite. Belts and hoses are cheap compared to
a $1,000.00 service call or a lost day's production. Plan your work, work your plan.

Even though we have an L90E (same Deutz engine and drivetrain as L90F) among our loaders, other than comfort it just never will beat the old pure 90's and 90B's. An entirely mechanical machine is just incomparable to today's electronic nightmares.

Deutz used a belt drive pump too and they often allowed air into the system. I think there would be fewer problems if they didn't use the pump as a tensioner or build in better bearings if they do.

Used to work on these, worth changing the axle oils, if they’re higher than the fill plug before draining it’s a good indication the brake pistons o-ring seals are bypassing hydraulic oil into the axle housing. There are also brake wear indicator pins on each final drive to check for excessive brake disc wear during a service.

Flash those black plastic parts with a propane torch to bring back the color. I haven't seen Hastings filters for quite a while.

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch 10 місяців тому +1

@@jaygraham5407If you do that with a torch, you will have stains caused by uneven heating when the plastic degrade again.
Linseed oil will last longer and coat it very uniformely,it's also cheaper.

Nice job of chasing down the fuel system problem. Thanks for the VOLVO update, appreciate your time and effort on the video.

A little tip, if you use it heavily, put the exhaust muffler outside or completely away, as this creates enormous heat build-up in the engine compartment, which causes all the seals to harden.

Had a 5.4 ford van do that to that to me, it sat for more than 5 min it lost all prime, would almost never start first try, have to prime it at least twice. I replaced a ton of things on that thing as it never spit a code or anything, Turned out after months of playing with it, it was the fuel pump, changed it never had the problem again. I hate problems thats not always obvious lol

Metric sizes are harder for me to guess than English and I think it more than frequency used. However, 25.4 mm ain't like 1/64 or even 1/16. You are a good man Matie. I hope you have better luck welding that cyl than I had. I tried 3x. I just couldn't get the oil cleared. I sprayed carb cleaner, lacquer thinner, acetone, etc. I finally just replaced the cyl. I had ground the head down to clear between the plates and got too deep.
You guys are lucky to have Area Diesel as does Clint over in Indiana. I suspect Peoria, maybe Bloomington has some experts but the only thing here is Halsey's. That place looks like the wrong side of a pig pen.....
