My style of vids with the narrative. No hemming and hawing and umming.
Thanks
Excellent idea. Something so simple that I would have never thought of. Thanks for teaching:)
I wanna see this guy on Forged in Fire! I bet he'd win.
You are just as epic as always Tim ! Keep up the great content brother
Thank you my friend and take care
Great project Tim!!!
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
You still have my support Tim very interesting can design
Thank you sir.
Great video
Nice knife 😁👍
Here's one for ya! Can you make canister Damascus without a welder and without a power hammer or press? Just to make it hard.... Can you do it in a coal forge?
I made it without a power hammer or press, welded it by hand after it was out of the can then I drew it out with the power hammer. never tried it in a coal forge but I think so maybe we'll just have to try it I guess...
Thanks for watching.
It's a real shame that people steal the work of others to present as their own.
Wow.. I now I have an idea for my round pipe... didn’t realize People stole youTube videos ... that sucks. Nice to watch!
people steal everything my father did some online work to start a business and someone stole his product and tried to start their own thing
Very cool Tim. First time I have seen someone do this technique.
Tim that’s absolutely awesome thanks for the tip and technique! I noticed the new logos before you said anything then you said why so I hope they help stop the theives!
I am first to watch
Super epic information
Now that's thinking your way out of the box👍👍👍
Great pattern, Tim! Great video! Sorry some lowlife stole your videos!
There are forged pipe fittings. Only thing we can use at work. But your not going to find them at your local hardware store. Pipe supply is where we get them. Great info though tim.
Outside the box, I LOVE it!
That is awesomeness! Thinking outside the freaking Box! Or pipe as the case may be... (see what I did there?) And on the videothief's, next time we talk I have an easy preventative solution for that... just remind me.
Outstanding, another piece of information in my tool box...Thanks Tim...(y)
Awesome Tim! Check out machine and fabrication shops. They would have all sorts of drops, that could be used for canister and plugs. 😀👍👍⚒️❤️
Great question and demonstration video. People stealing video from others. I elected not to rant. Thank you for you're work and sharing.
I wondered about this because I know if you don’t seal your weld good it starts oxidizing (or something) and it looks like the forth of July and spits sparks out like crazy. Thanks for the video.
Very fun to watch (and informative). Nice tip about logo on videos. Thanks again Tim
Very nice job. I always enjoy watching someone who knows what they are doing. I also enjoy your voice over to explain what you are doing.
Thank you Tom and thanks for watching.
That's a nasty thing to do steal you videos...Cool result.😃
It would be great if you put up two videos, one long version, for the loyal follower who watch every video showing the whole process, and a second shorter one for those who have the attention span of a goldfish...P.S your work is beautiful
This was a good idea. Im wanting to get into making damascus. I may just wait until I get a welder. You can get them pretty cheap anymore.
Good job great technique very informative thank you Tim
Love it Mr. Tim. Had no idea you could make a canister that way. Do now. Thanks for sharing
🙏blessed days sirSir
Crawford out 🧙♂️
I think it would be kind of cool to do a gumbo Damascus that's bits and pieces of saw blades salty nails finish nails and Fish Hooks and Springs and see how that turns out🤞
Sorry to hear about the plagiarism. Appreciate the info, have been pondering how to do canister without a welder.
Great job! Again I have learned something new! Thanks Tim
I wonder what it would look like if you used a mixture of Ballbearings, Fishing Hooks and Finish nails? Just an idea for a future challenge maybe?
Sucks people pirate content. Nice work and good content as always Tim
This has a lot of useful information, but if someone has a power hammer and a surface grinder but not a welder something is wrong lol
i ask the question, i do not have a power hammer i have a big hammer and an anvil. my grinder is pedal powered.
Way cool tim I also had that question. Thanks for showing this technique
This is why I enjoy you're channel so much.!
Thank you!
Amazing demonstration, thank you for this!
Ok I live across the road from a thrift shop, and there are always baggies full of old nails/nuts and screws. Really random some days. The quality of the metal is all over the place, some are plated in chrome some are galvanized and some are possibly some form of copper alloy. Without being "picky" could a person (not me, I'm a meat tower dweller waiting for my liver and kidneys to be harvested) canister such an assortment of unidentified metals?
keeperofthegood that could be used but would not hold an edge. Canister Damascus is high carbon steel powder with various high carbon steel "objects" each object gives a different pattern that is all they do. The carbon content makes it an effective blade/blade edge. The mix you talked about could possibly be shaped into a knife but not be a good working one
@@JunkyBlake So doable but not for the purpose of usable knife work. Decorative blades or other decorative metal works this would possibly work for. Is there issues with the galvanized metals or chrome inside the canister? I know both of these can form toxic fumes when burnt in air but sealed or in allow are they safe?
@@keeperofthegood I wouldn't mess with any galvanized materials to be on the safe side.
@@JunkyBlake Well you could also weld it to a high carbon steel core San Mai style if you really wanted to.
Thanks so much! I guess Governor Inslee can't keep us out of our smithys. At least, not yet!
awesome work. I never would have thought of that
Thanks man and thanks for watching.
What kind of thermometer do you use to know the temp in your forge?
Very nice knife blank good job sir!!!
That is good to know thanks. Another quality piece.
Nicely done Tim :-) that came out real nice.
I just pinch the end shut like the back of a toothpaste tube
I love this i been looking for this for awhile
That looks great 👍 kind of like snake skin
Your channel is awesome!! I’ve learned a lot watching your videos! Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
Incredible as always Tim!
Awesome video. I have never seen this done before
Cant beleave some low life stole ur vidio
People are stealing your work? 🤬 They don't what me on their back...🤔
Thanks Ben
Very nice video, thank you. Sorry to hear about the thieves. How important is a power hammer in Blacksmithing?
Power hammer is more of a luxury in a small hobby shop but it saves a lot of time and my old arm .
Thanks for watching.
I don't think you know defeat Sir, Not much other than moon rockets ( perhaps)
Thanks Tim you inspire
Thank you so much for the kind words.
And thanks for watching.
Awsum looking blade
Tim that's Brill. Did you put any flux in the Pipe before closing it up ?
No flux just a piece of paper.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you Big Dog IOU 1
قطعة رائعة
Very nice
That is fantastic. Where do you get your powder from?
K&G knife supply.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for shering.
Love your grinder Sir.
Awesome as always Tim
Cool Knife, Tim!!
New Anvil? I do like the metal in your knife....
Nope same old anvil.
Thanks for watching.
Nice to see that you are comfortable enough to no longer need your bevel jig
Getting better lot's of practice.
Thanks for watching.
Very good video!
You great man
Thank you, cause I have a grinder, but no good welder. Much love from Sequim, WA
Right on
@@BIGDOGFORGE I am an old retired lady, just learning this. I wish I had found it when I was a lass, but back then girls didn't do this kind of thing. I am having more fun than I ever have!
Hi Tim, very cool use of a water pipe! I have a question for you. Have you used circular sawmill blades for knives, and, what type of steel are they? I've been told a few times that most are 80crv2, and would like to know what you think. Thanks.
BIG DOGGOOOOOOO
Very neat!
Well that answers a few questions for me also, here is another question I’ve been saving a lot of high carbon cut off and drill shavings from knives. Can I make canister Damascus with those or do I need powdered steel?
I think it's time for another video.
Thanks for watching.
I believe shurap did that. A lap Chandler Dickenson I think it was pulled the ferrous material out of his shop dust
One day you won't be able to call this a "little channel" :D
You always bring excellent content as a tried and true viewer I never miss one of yours awesome job!
Where's a good source for steel powder? Lot of sellers just dont have my trust..you know everyone's honest huh?
Nice one Tim , Cheers AUS.
Great work. It's like watching Emirel Lagasse.
I love that you will try anything. Great job Tim
Thanks brother and thanks for watching
@@BIGDOGFORGE wouldn't miss it. Get so many ideas from what your doing and can't thank you enough for what you do.
Great video and info on canister without a welder! God Bless Tim
Very cool! Thanks for sharing and God Bless you sir!
Stole videos? What a bummer! Maybe you can tatoo Big Dog Forge on your hands too!? No way then somebody would claim it his creations! Subscribed!
I like this method over the welded canister TBh. Those plugs allow for exactly what you did xD
Why do I see this method showing up as a challenge on FIF LOL Nice Job Tim !!
Tim!! I just had a thought, you could use this same technique to do Canoe Damascus. In this case you line the canoe with what ever it is you want then seal it of in the same manner you did but instead of mild steel use high carbon. Pretty much created half a San-mi, once its all drawn out just fold it with the high carbon inward. Then you have a Damascus Billet with a high carbon center
That power hammer of yours is a little beauty, love watching it work. Also found the video informative as usual, great job!
Great job with the canister Damascus 🥳I’m in the process of making a katana from solid square stock steel 😁
I bet those of us who have followed you for years would even recognize those a stolen scenes if we saw them.
And fir a guy who says he isn't a knife maker, you are quite a knife maker Sr.
Thanks. Please show it when it is finished.
can you please make an Ōdachi please? i love your videos
Thanks for the video. This was the one video of a knife that actually shows the difference between the solid steel and the powdered steel. The overall result is amazing and fantastic. Have a wonderful week.
that's good to know even if you have a welder. I had to have my welder fixed, the board and it was out for a month!!!! take care from ohio
Nice words of wisdom at the intro Tim, and i would never have thought about doing a canister damascus this way, realy cool pattern too.
Where you been I’ve not been able to find your video
Green beetle has had the same problems in the past. He was putting his logo on everything
Beautiful pattern and as always a pleasure to watch and learn
Great video thanks
Omg! Tim! This is amazing! I had always wondered how to pull off a canister without a welder to seal it!! Thank you for this!!! Keep up the great work:)
You are so welcome
Can I use stainless steel pipe?
There is always more ways to skin the cat.
