We aim to really put new trucks to the test with this new Gold Hill challenge, but that usually doesn't involve putting the truck at serious risk...but not in this case! Mother Nature had other ideas when Andre took his brand-new 2023 Chevy Colorado out to test its towing capabilities on the steep climb to Gold Hill, Colorado.

Andre is okay if it blows up…..then he can get a vehicle with cruise control
I came for the towing test but I’m staying for the Andre cruise control jokes 😂
My exact thought! lol
Increases the odds of it blowing up if his dash blacks out again and can’t tell if he’s going to overheat
😂😂
& a 3-piece back window hahaha
Imagine buying a 1 year old, second hand truck then finding out Andre owned it 😂
😮😮😮😮😮😮🛻🛻🛻🛻🛻🛻
Not a bad idea for a video - what happened to the long-term vehicles after they were sold? Is it still going, or needed a new engine and transmission 6 months later. I'm sure some must have interesting stories.
Why is this funny 😂
They would get a truck that is mostly used for commuting and towing his boat to the lake a handful of times during the summer. How is that interesting or funny in any way?
Then u kno it’s a good truck
WOW, I've gotta hand it to Andrea he's got balls, not only did he do a hard torture test but in that kinda weather with his own new personal truck. Hats off to him.
Its not like he is gonna keep it past the warranty period
@@mattbrew11exactly. He won't have this truck in 18 months let alone 3 yr/36k 😅
That will be some other Lucky fellas problem when it’s sold on TFL bids
It will be gone within a year 😮
No doubt he'll never keep it & no way would I ever buy that truck or any other truck not after watching them torture them. So, I guess it is just a business write off for him.
On this episode Andre gets a new truck due to hail damage and now has cruise control!
This was such a fun video. I laughed my a** off. You guys are a great team and the entertainment level of this video was off the charts. We learned something while laughing. Great job guys and thanks Andre for sacrificing your truck.
Thanks
During the off road part, with how much the truck was moving around, I thought he was doing 35+ but it turns out he was during under 15. That is indeed torture.
Subaru fan are strangely quiet as a real off road 4x4 rescues one of their beloved soft roaders
My wife’s Forester is an awesome vehicle in the NWPA snow, especially when we put studded snow tires on it. I would never take it through deep water or down a rocky trail, though! You’ve got to know & respect the limits of your vehicle.
@@chriscon8463 I’m sure it is. As a fellow Pennsylvanian I fully understand the volatile lake effect patterns
I love Andre, his passion for what he does really shines through.
MR. Truck and Andre are my favorite part of TFL love you guys keep up the awesome work!
Thanks
It’s good to know that Andre’s Colorado survived the rain. We can’t say the same for that poor Subaru.
Mr.Truck is a trooper! I'd love to have such a well dressed co-pilot
Thanks
Indeed. Heck, he replied it!
Torture test for Andre this time, not so much for the truck. LOL
Good to see these guys aren't just fair weather testers. Two atta-boys sent your way!
I used to deliver water to Gold Hill. That climb is no joke in anything but a car. You are a brave man doing it in that weather with a trailer!
The Colorado isn't my thing, but I have to give it props. This was impressive and a good indication of the 4cylinder ability. Of course if you tow frequently, you should probably get a bigger truck, but it's good to know it's max tow rating is completely viable if you need to use it.
What is a prop? Please explain. I bet you cannot.
@mikek5298 Prop: a support such as a beam to keep something in position. The metaphorical prop is using the power of the collective voice to prop up a product into its appropriate position by giving accolades to ensure the product is praised and reviewed properly. Or it can sometimes be used in UA-cam comments to prop one's ego up to a self- believed position of superiority to make the comment of another individual seem foolish.
@@mikek5298Going to need ice for that burn.
@@mikek5298 Prop: Short for "propeller" either for use in airplanes or boats...though I fail to see what the advantage would be in giving a land-based vehicle "props"...🤣
@@mikek5298 What is a prop? Please explain. I bet you cannot. --- Props is a figurative expression meaning that "Much Good Will, Consideration and Thanks" should be given to the item, person or location stated within the sentence. Example: Props to TFL for giving us such good information about mid-size trucks!
i.e. Much goodwill, consideration AND thanks should be given to TFL for all the information they give us viewers about midsize trucks!
It's our weirdly unusual FIGURATIVE EXPRESSIONS within U.S. and Canadian English which can be CRAZY for foreigners to learn! Think of the expression "I Ran Out of Milk"!
To a foreign non-Enlish speaker THEY THINK that statement literally means that "I was standing in a puddle of milk, suddenly jumped out of it and started running away" WHEN IN FACT IT MEANS "I have no more milk in my refrigerator and must go buy some more from the grocery store!"
Sheisse! English is SUCH a crazy language to learn!
V
Holy f guys, I was nervous and I wasn't even there. This was great entertainment but also you guys really put that Colorado through it's paces.
Thanks
I’m so glad all your channels have done so well, it’s nice to see genuinely good people succeed.
Can't wait to see the content on that sweet-looking Jeep Liberty Jet trim level. I had a 2010 Liberty 4x4 and it handled Connecticut snowstorms and Winter weather like a Champ. I'd probably still have it now if it wasn't totaled in an accident by some idiot DUI doing over 100 mph that rear ended me.
Thoroughly impressed by the Colorado, not an easy test for a midsize truck
That mid-size truck of Andray's tows more, carries more and has a hecl of a LOT MORE HORSEPOWER than my Dad's Ford F150 truck from the 1980's! --- And it's actually slighltly LARGER in size than my Dad's F150 truck! These mid-size trucks are getting so good that it's getting harder and harder to JUSTIFY the purchase of say an F150 or GMC/Chevy/RAM 1500 series!
I prefer the GMC Canyon AT4x AEV edition that's coming out soon so it's a such a hard choice to make since most of the new ones in the mid-size segment are so good these days and even the lower-trim models are miles ahead of the older trucks!
V
@StarGateSG7 I was looking at an early 00's gm 1500, but then realized the new Colorado and canyon tow just as much, it's kinda crazy
@@kunu1990 It's 7700 lbs towing and 1540 lbs of in-bed cargo for the mid-size Chevy Colorado bought by Andrey which is FAAAAAR MORE than my Dad's 1980's-era Ford F150 full-size truck!
And my Dad's truck DID NOT HAVE trailer control, auto-braking, traction control, GPS mapping and cameras of any sort! Andrey's truck is faaaaaaaaar better than even a truck from TEN YEARS AGO!
If somebody gave me Andrey's model truck I would be more than happy to enjoy it every day by towing and hauling all my work and camping gear! I would have NO PROBLEM with getting a Chevy Colorado! This time, GM finally spent the time and money to actually GIVE THE PUBLIC what it wants and needs for mid-size trucks!
This Colorado is really THAT GOOD! If you are on a budget but STILL want to buy a NEW truck, this is a good deal! When you have some spare cash, just upgrade the lower trims with some decent 3rd party parts to bring it up to Raptor-style off-road capability!
In my opinion, almost any trim of the NEW Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon mid-size trucks are TRULY WORTHY vehicles for people who can spend somewhere around $45,000 USD.
V
@@StarGateSG7Half tons are way nicer and better than these midsize trucks. This test is EASY for an f150 with the 2.7 ecoboost. They have more room, ride better, are safer, bigger beds etc. These midsize trucks should be $32,000.
Hey Andre - we torture tested that truck at Davis dam in 100+ F conditions and it never missed a beat. :)
At least your dash screen is working again. 😂
Great video. Your B roll was really great. The low shot at the end, with the truck, the trailer, the mountain, the rain and the hail all together, was framing genius. Thank gentlemen, for sharing your fear with us, because we would feel the same things when we get into the same situations. Outstanding!
The boys r back!!
Nerves of steel Andre! You would not have been able to print my “in cab banter” if my brand new ride had been through what yours went through!
Great test. There werent many comments on the trucks ability, but it looked like it handled the loan pretty well up and down the hill. Pretty impressive in those conditions.
I 100% agree with mandatory training for anyone who plans to tow heavy loads. Years ago an elderly couple form Kansas bought a big motor home and a large toy hauler trailer to tow behind. They found them at the bottom of a steep canyon on the western slope of the Bighorn mountains in Wyoming. They were both dead. The motor home was still in high gear and the trailer brakes were not hooked up properly. The brakes were totally gone on the new motor home.
Poor Mr. Truck! He looked visibly ashen several times. Trooper for hanging in there!
Thanks
Our local dealer had the new Chevy Colorados on their lot for 3 weeks and they still haven't sold one.
That is one heck of a truck, thoroughly impressed with the new colorado
Excellent, excellent test. One of the best I’ve seen. Andre, brother, you keep pushing that truck and you’re going to need a new one…better make a deal with Chevy that they give you a new truck for all the publicity you’re giving them. Great test! I was gritting and smiling the whole time. Keep up the great work!
Loved this video. Andre and Mr. Truck keep them coming.
Thanks
With all that wheel hop and spinning, it's pretty impressive it stayed cool. That sloppy mud works against cooling and clogs stuff up.
Love how he points out that there is only one camera and says it's kind of a more basic truck. Basic truck for me is what we got in the 80's.
the video quality on this one is superb. Keep up the high production value!
Another great video Andre and Mr. Truck.
Thanks
You two make a good review couple. Thanks for hammering on your new truck like ya did. The information is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
"glad its not my truck" 😂😂😂
This is why i recomend people to get full size for towing over 5k
“Me? Oh no, I pull big with small vehicle. Dont be me” dont be Andre or me 😂
Good video Boys! You are brave Andre!!
Good adventure vid! One thing that kept coming to mind was that in almost every video Mr truck wears a hat. Now with hail and pouring rain, no hat! WTH lol
Hopefully your next truck can have a headlight switch and cruise control
I’ve got the trail boss and I’ve never thought once, that I wish I had a headlight switch. Lol
@@Mi4mi_joe I mean I leave my truck in auto mode for headlights, but there’s plenty of times it’s nice to quickly turn a dial to cut off my headlights. In my opinion this is a stupid design on gms part.
May I add hood struts for God sakes.
@@marcg.3830 it’s 1 button to turn the headlights off. It’s not inconvenient at all in my opinion.
@@robertyoung8289 this I agree 100%
i like this test better than the interstate test.its more "real world". after all you often have to take back roads to get to your destination.& we all know how tricky back roads can be when towing.this was a GOOD idea.congrats guys.
Andre's Golden Trail Boss has been the real star of TFL
I love the sound of rain on the glass ❤
Mr Truck got his vest from the 70's😂
1880's
I have a collection of vests, boots and hats
Excellent video from Seymour Skinner and Mr. Truck!
Andre, thank you for doing this test with your truck! Now, I don't have to do it with mine, which I pick up this week. Wow! I'm curious, what vehicle did you use to follow you around?
I'd hate to be stuck in a life or death situation with "mr. truck" yeesh
Yea, he’s a little to much
I'm really impressed with the capability of this truck. I'm ready to get rid of my full size. This is definitely on my radar.
😂 Mr. Truck singing “raindrops keeps falling on my head” in the end just cracked me up 🤣
Great real world test, 🙏 so glad you all got home safe.
Thanks
Wow I had to change my underwear and I wasn’t even there! Good job guys! “Im glad it wasn’t my truck”!
Glad to see a part of Colorado with greenery!
That's a perfect situation for 4 hi, that's beyond the need of 4 auto. Auto waits for those back wheels to break loose before it engages the front end, as someone who has towed plenty in the snow, ditch 4 auto in those situations. Auto is great for around town, not towing a maxed out load up a steep grade in a sleet storm.
Glad to see that you aren't running on fumes like you were with the Raptor! I was nervous you were going to run out of gas 😆
Hope none of this weather happens while I'm out there in a few weeks lol. But storms every evening typically I have to plan my runs/hike to get done before noon.
I love Mr Truck honesty! You can see Andre thinking should we edit that 🤔 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks
Best video ever! Really enjoyed that fellas. Love all ur content but this was great!
Thanks
Just a little informative reason why you may smell transmission fluid without there being a leak. I work in a Ford truck factory. Our 10 speed transmissions have a case vent tube to bleed off any pressure from a "non pressurized" area in the transmission. Similar to an axle vent tube on solid axle trucks. As long as it's not leaking/overheating, it's normal to smell a little sweet atf smell when pushing the limits.
I just love how he only calls him Mr. Truck 😂
Andre, you deserve a raise at TFL! Roman, hope you're reading this!!!
Great Video, taking on the elements
Andre and Mr Truck have great chemistry
Thanks
In the past few days here in Central Texas we had a hail storm I'm one county and 106 degree heat in another within 60 mile radius.
This video was great yall. I ordered the new Ranger Raptor and am super excited to get it. I have a couple of Shelby Raptors, a diesel f150 platty, a supercharged 2014 5.0 f150, and three Super Duty 6.7s, so it will be interesting to try a mid size for once, especially since I plan on putting a camper on the Ranger.
Great video. My son is in Colorado Springs (Spaceforce) and he's been texting me about the storms ya'll have been having. We are from RGV in south Texas. If you want to do a torture test, head to South Texas this next week. We don't have mountains, but it's going to be 105-109 high Temps all next week.
“Y’all”😂
Bro it was those temps all this week. Now the news saying it could be as hot as 110-115 degrees... My Accord can barely handle it!!
To be clear - in a hot day, +100F this truck would not make this climb…your fans should be in ultra high managing the temps all around.
Colorado weather is the craziest weather I've ever experienced. In one 2 hour span I saw every type of weather. It started off about 90-95° then the temp dropped to what felt like freezing, enough to snow, sleet, hail, rain, thunder snow, blizzard conditions, thunder storms whatever you can think of. Then a few years later it hailed like that while I was out shopping. I watched helplessly as a woman's minivan got submerged with her in it. She'd gotten to the top of the van and they floated a raft to her eventually. Coupled with the fires and such and Colorado is a pretty hardy place to live.
Pulling a 3800lb 22ft TT with our new Colorado TB. Tows it really easily, only complaint or curiosity is that it seems a bit bouncy. We also have the cross reverse auto braking saying its not functioning, but only alerts me to this on start up sometimes. No idea why, can't intentionally replicate it. Going to see what's up at dealer, but no noted issue. LOVE the auto light test when hooking trailer up too.
Great content! I would love to see this same test with the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor (when you can get a test vehicle), as I am curious if the transmission would heat up similar to the Raptor R or not.
Be sure you get the rainbow edition. Pride baby.😂😂😂😂
Out of all the midsize trucks, the Ranger is my favorite, the Lariat or the raptor version is kick ass
With all respect.. I've driven my Uncle's Ranger and it's also a very nice and comfortable truck but it no where near has the power for/and for towing as a new Canyon/Colorado.
Don’t worry it’s legal in Colorado to inhale burning brakes “18:45” 😂
Thank you for another great video. What is the app you use for your elevation?
Brakes are cheaper than transmissions and engines. Use the brakes.
This is awesome. Real world testing right there. Maybe next time on a hot dry day. And to think most folks mall crawl with theirs.
Very few people actually scrape up their daily drivers, even if they take them off road a bit
Andrea and me truck’s videos
are my favorite videos of this channel
I would honestly watch an hour long video of them two just driving around and talking
My two favorite guys on FLT. Andrey and Mr Kent.
It almost sounds like Mr Truck was nervous haha!!
Thanks
Always digging this content
Raptor temps were fine as well.
Best Kathrine Hepburn vocal impression ever Andre.
You guys are awesome awesome.
Thanks
Crazy video!
Dont understand why you’d put it into 4lo and shut traction control off vs putting into tow haul and manual shift, and rely a bit more on the trailer brake.
Butt puckering real world testing...great job👍👍👍
Colorado did great! Happy with my Tundra TRD Pro, but honestly, the Colorado could do just about everything I need. I do occasionally need the larger cabin and tow capacity, but 9/10 I'm only towing motorcycles or my Corvette by myself with a rack and rooftop tent. The Colorado can do that.
Pretty good for a 4 cylinder with turbo. It helps to run the AC or defroster so the 2nd fan runs.
A. You should have called off the test in that weather.
B. That was NOT hail, it was groupel.
Nice review - I could do with a bit less of the pseudo-drama' but it was nice to see what this truck can do in real-world conditions.
This truck test was a true adventure!
Holy crap you guys are hilarious! 🤣😂🤣 👍👍
Thanks
21:05 Sometimes the hail actually falls from the sky that size. Welcome to hail alley.
I regularly tow 7700lbs on my 2.2 diesel 2014 Ford Ranger 6 speed automatic on similar roads, though mostly paved. I wouldn’t use low range on that descent except on the very worse parts. Also in the hail, which I haven’t ever encountered while coming down that road type. In the UK only inertia brakes are allowed so I would be very nervous of those bends down hill. I’d make sure that there was a bit more nose weight to gain rear truck traction and avoid being pushed sideways.
I should mention, before anyone else comments, that European Rangers are rated to carry 2350lbs and tow 7700lbs/3.5 metric tons.
I just checked the TFL Truck online shop....and Andre needs to make some limited-edition t-shirts that say: "...but, does it have cruise control?"🤣🤣🤣 I'd TOTALLY buy one!
15:59 His ‘basic’ truck has more features than a fully loaded truck from 2008.
WOW! What a trip
Love your big eyes Andre
That’s pretty impressive for a midsize truck.
I was just on that road out of bouder. It is pretty steep.
what is that altimeter gps app on his phone @ 8:12 ?
Well done lads.
It's raining mini snowballs. 🤣
Mr truck is such a confidence builder 😂
When towing, there is no replacement for displacement. Little motor's with a turbo slapped to it will die a slow painful death when you decide to tow anything pushing the limits of its rating. Great video. Looked like a lot of fun, a great adventure for sure.
18:00 didnt finish the topic... so could turbo braking be something we see in the future on a special design gasoline motors? 😮
