Those are definitely the best mainline mechs of each. I had 2 ideas going into this in my mech picks. 1st, I was asked to pick mechs that I didn't use in my Lancer overview video to ensure there was real design vs lore blindness. And 2nd, the mechs here help introduce base world concepts! Vlad for non standard mech design, Black Witch for setting factions, Hydra for RA and Deimos, and Sunzi for FTL/Blinkspace.
@@glueboy Oh I loved the choices, especially the Hydra, which has cemented further my love for Horus, I am just stoked for even more of these analysis!
Good video overall, but if you'll permit me to☝🤓 Uhhmm ackhtually a few things because I'm a pedant who can't handle the idea of people not being perfectly accurate at all times: I'm pretty sure the gun in Vlad's art is the Impaler Nailgun, which immobilizes opponents on a failed save. black witch has ONE line in its description which mentions gravity manipulation, nothing in the actual license references this, it's all magnets. The staff looking like a mancatcher is *definitely* intentional given how Black Witch's whole thing is locking down opponents. If it's not supposed to be that, then it's almost certainly a Monk's Spade (Alternatively, Crescent Moon Spade). If I had to tell you what it does, I'd say it's what that Witch uses for its Mag Parry trait. Black witch is also not exactly fragile, with innate 1 armor, resistance to kinetic damage, and tools to protect it against tech attacks. It wouldn't have a *good* time against vlad, but vlad wouldn't have a good time either. It's not beefy either, 6hp is still very little and you still take full damage from anything that isn't kinetic. RA isn't AI, and honestly "eldritch math" isn't the best descriptor, it's a bit fuzzier than that. Unfortunately, Sunzi is size 1, so legally not a dwarf :( I hope this got mentioned off camera at least because I love it, Sunzi's lore is that it uses hand-motions to control its blinkspace abilities (probably why they used a napoleon, so you can do the motions and still have a gun). So less ATLA and more Naruto. Again, good video. I hope I didn't come off as harsh, annoying, or nitpicky, proper phrasing isn't my strong suit. Design analysis videos are very interesting to me, doubly so given that I'm currently learning how to draw. It's nice to see the more unspoken things brought to the forefront and examined.
A lot of this game's art straight up doesn't fit its lore, and a lot of its lore also communicates some extremely mixed messages. The art direction must have been very "hands off" when producing the art for this game because if you put all the pictures and paintings within the core rule-book's pages next to each-other, you might not be able to tell this all comes from the same intellectual property. There are black and white very comic-booky art pieces reminiscent of early Judge Dredd panels printed next to manga-inspired art that would fit inside the pages of Gundam or Neon Genesis Evangelion, and those are next to amateurish character portraits made by people who can't even color within the lines who wouldn't feel out of place if they were magnetized on a fridge somewhere next to a little kid's drawings. Then there are also highly detailed technical schematic drawings placed next to surreal pencil drawings that make less sense the more you look at them, next to breath-taking impressionistic vistas of alien worlds, its ALL over the place. Some of the robots are in fact giant robots but there are also many that are just slightly taller than a regular person and are more like an Iron-man suit, but you can't tell just by looking at the art for them because a lot of the pictures do not properly communicate size. Some of the mechs are properly large and look futuristic while others just look like they're fantasy medieval characters or alien monsters made of metal or like the cowboy you mentioned, there is a robot that looks like a werewolf with two heads, yellow teeth a tail and it has claws...Is it a robot or an armored Animal?! Some mechs look massive and well built for combat while others look like a strong gust of wind might blow them down and in many cases their statistics DO NOT reflect their look. The game's art direction suffers from a lack of a unified vision. In fact if you look at the credits for the book you'll notice there was no Art Director. The Artists had no supervision, there was like 20 of them, all doing their own thing and then the poor book's editor had to put all these disparate visions in one product. I know I should not judge a book by its cover, but in the case of LANCER the book is done a huge disservice by its lack of art direction.
I'd like to also add that my opinion of LANCER is not good. I had a "friend" who would take every opportunity to quote the lore to me and insert it into random conversations and none of it made sense. He described a post-scarcity socialist utopia in one breath and in the next he would tell me about how people were oppressed by corporations and there is terrorism, space-pirates and evil religious cults. The art meanwhile shows both peaceful space-colonial life on alien planets and a couple of pages later there are images of dead soldiers being stepped on by machines and huge Titans looming in the background, that looks like something out of Warhammer 40k. In one conversation he would tell me that the giant robots were free-thinking A.I. who had the status of being sentient on the same level as humans, and later he told me that the A.I. were not free thinking and were in fact "chained" and each time an A.I. would become "unchained" it would go rogue. When I pointed out that that's literally slavery he'd say "no, because when the A.I.s are chained they are happy to follow orders", my brother in Christ its called "chained" as in "in chains" you know, like a person held against their will. He also said that "there are no aliens in this sci-fi setting" but then he would show me the robots that are made by outsider entities and also there is a literal campaign where you fight aliens. The dude would contradict himself constantly which makes me think that either the Lore of the Game contradicts itself constantly, or this man was an idiot who did not understand what he was reading. Either way it put me off playing the game forever because he wasn't a very good friend at all. I don't even know if Lancer is a good game or not, I just don't even want to look into it because this guy was a fan and he's an idiot and an asshole. Imagine if your entire idea of what football is came from a hooligan with no charisma.
@vicnedel02 Yeah I have a lot of things like that. Can't enjoy something cause it was introduced by the wrong type of person. Doctor Who being the big one. Gonna say that yeah based on comments lore was given very disjointed. But biggest thing fumbled sounds like the NHP. Shackling NHP is in setting, very gray. Because yes we are taking sentient fragments of a machine god and forcing it to think on a human perspective otherwise it starts to think in very eldritch line of thought. So on one hand yeah enslaving the god fragments so the don't unravel time and space. Same time there is also a group of hackers in universe who are basically trying to free them all because as you say we're basically enslaving them. They want to free them and live with them as equal people. The other reason we do this is because while set to human parameters it still thinks on a higher speed which is important for things like space warfare ftl travel etc. Lancer gives a lot of ideas and basically it's up to dm and players what they want to do with them.
@@vicnedel02 that sucks that a someone ruined LANCER for you on the post scarcity note and the corpo thing Union (the post scarcity faction) is the one going around and trying to the galaxy a better place but it very much is an in progress thing, Union moves slowly due to how big of a polity it is and while ideally they get in and help people in time due to the lack of any real FTL and some policies in place to prevent Union from becoming authortarian and keep it as it is actions to improve situations is very time consuming but in the end union usually succeeds. despite Unions efforts though there are still parts of the galaxy that have unfortunate things such as piracy, slavery, etc as for NHPs their not A.I. at least in the traditional sense they are pretty much elderitch math entities, the whole shackling thing is intentionally morally grey and is ment to reflect how real life societies even ones that strive to better the world for everyone may still rely on systems that conflict with that goal, as for why Union even uses NHPs still is because there too effective and they pretty much out perform any A.I. system and are the only reason Union can help so many people in the first place, there are a bunch of people even in union itself that wish to free NHPs but shackling is also a means to prevent them from litterally eating parts of reality so the liberation isn't as simple as letting them go free as a cascading N.H.P could cause nigh unpreventable problems just by existing, and due to the fact that each NHP requires a unique solution in order for them to be liberated without risk of reality collasping around them the solution isn't going to be a one size fits all sorry if I didn't explain very well i'm not best at socializing I hope didn't make the situation worse

Tortuga
Monarch
Goblin
& Sherman
Although I love ALL the mechs the Lancer team crafted, it is so incredibly awesome.
P.s.: would castigate the enemies of the godhead, and plasma gauntlet my exhaust feed to hear those other 2, the lore is insane on those ones.

I got absolutely zero, notifications for this video
I hope the community post brought your attention to it, it seems many subscribers didn't get notified ~Sunny

Good video overall, but if you'll permit me to☝🤓 Uhhmm ackhtually a few things because I'm a pedant who can't handle the idea of people not being perfectly accurate at all times:
I'm pretty sure the gun in Vlad's art is the Impaler Nailgun, which immobilizes opponents on a failed save.
black witch has ONE line in its description which mentions gravity manipulation, nothing in the actual license references this, it's all magnets.
Thank you for your feedback it was very detailed - Cal
I didn't know that about the Sunzi so I didn't mention it off camera... so thanks for making me like the Sunzi more lmao. Thanks for the corrections!
Everytime you say glueboy for some reason I think you’re insulting him with a nickname lol
Nah ha ha ha 🤣😂🤣 that is literally his UA-cam - Cal
@@vicnedel02 that sucks that a someone ruined LANCER for you
on the post scarcity note and the corpo thing
Union (the post scarcity faction) is the one going around and trying to the galaxy a better place but it very much is an in progress thing, Union moves slowly due to how big of a polity it is and while ideally they get in and help people in time due to the lack of any real FTL and some policies in place to prevent Union from becoming authortarian and keep it as it is actions to improve situations is very time consuming but in the end union usually succeeds.
despite Unions efforts though there are still parts of the galaxy that have unfortunate things such as piracy, slavery, etc
as for NHPs their not A.I. at least in the traditional sense they are pretty much elderitch math entities, the whole shackling thing is intentionally morally grey and is ment to reflect how real life societies even ones that strive to better the world for everyone may still rely on systems that conflict with that goal, as for why Union even uses NHPs still is because there too effective and they pretty much out perform any A.I. system and are the only reason Union can help so many people in the first place, there are a bunch of people even in union itself that wish to free NHPs but shackling is also a means to prevent them from litterally eating parts of reality so the liberation isn't as simple as letting them go free as a cascading N.H.P could cause nigh unpreventable problems just by existing, and due to the fact that each NHP requires a unique solution in order for them to be liberated without risk of reality collasping around them the solution isn't going to be a one size fits all
sorry if I didn't explain very well i'm not best at socializing I hope didn't make the situation worse
