- Nintendo DS Lite Shell Swap
We had a bit of an issue with this shell swap, where the bottom screen wasn't working as I thought! I then had to stumble across another Nintendo DS Lite bottom LCD screen to see if we can swap it over. Will the screen suffice?
Next week I receive a very special package, which is in fact my first ever Gameboy Advance SP!

I like how you synchronized the music beat with putting some of the parts in. Nice touch. 🤙🏻
Thankyou Joey! Hope all is well.
@@JoeyDoesTech yes sir. I have a few DS lites that have been sitting on my bench waiting for me to fix them and make some more videos so i think I may try to tackle that this weekend.
@@joeyhenry7312 Good stuff dude. I'll be sure to keep an eye out :D
@@JoeyDoesTech took partially apart my first 3ds. Was a little nervous at first but I didn't remove the board or anything so I guess anyone could have did what I did. Lol I uploaded a video on it if you wanted to check it out. 🤷♂️
The markings on the bottom screen look like someone was playing solitaire.
Haha, a VERY angry game of solataire! Wonder what actually caused the markings 🤔
3:59 from what i learned that is just breaking the digitizer unfortunately and that was the main reason i got a new one a few years ago, overall this was a good shell swap
This looks so beautiful, Black and White is amazing, I want to do this to my DS as soon as possible.
Thankyou Eisen 😁 This is probably my favorite Nintendo DS out of the ones I have.
@@JoeyDoesTech Believe or not I'm getting my first one this year, i can't wait to mod it.
@@eisenkrahe7125 Nice! Well best of luck and keep me updated :)
@@JoeyDoesTech Thank you! I will for sure.
Thank you so much for documenting your journey on learning how to do these. really cool to see
Hey no worries 😌 Thankyou so much for watching!
Just ordered a broken ds lite on eBay. I got the mako I fix it tool kit, and I’m so exited. I’m trying to figure out which one to put more time into, repairs or my art. Great video! You got a new sub!
Cool video, man. For some reason I broke 2 top screens when I tried to swap some shells, now I'm afraid of break more. I just don't know what happens.
For your bottom screen, I'm pretty sure you can take the old (black DS) screen and just swap the digitizer of the silver DS, which still works.
Thanks for the heads up Ren! DS Lites are really cool to work on, they can be a pain, but a good place to start as they are cheap! I guess just watch some more videos until you're confident :)
@@JoeyDoesTech they are, indeed! I hope to be able to put up a beautiful white shell like yours when I'm good enough at this.
Meanwhile I'll keep watching your videos.
Cheers, man
With that hair you look like Ozzy Man Reviews! Great video btw!
I'll take that as a compliment, guys hillarious! 😁
Another shell swap succesfully done. I like the color arrangement.
People said it was like a storm trooper :D
@@JoeyDoesTech If you say that now.. there are some similarities😂
hey nice work and nice video keep up the good work
Thankyou Ivan! :)
Haircut! Yes!
This channel really has great videos but it's just underrated, sadly. Anyways I'm gonna support you and let's see after a few years you'll probably have a million subs. Keep it up man!
Let's hope so my dude. The aim is to make advanced repairs from knowing nothing, just to show that anyone can do it if they're interested :) thankyou!
Tickling the neck hahaha love the humor 😂
I have two shells I need new hinges. This video should help.
Great vid! Zebra style! Looks nice! Clean!!! So what is the surprise?? 😂
I think you know 🤫
Joey Does Tech yeah wrote that 3 hours ago! Hahaha
Hey, I have a problem: I removed the thing - what you assumed is a cover protector - from my ds lite touchscreen and now the touchscreen does not work
Before I removed it, the touchscreen did work.
Is the touchscreen broken, cause I removed it or did I break something eles?
I'm pretty sure that part is the digitizer, which is responsible for touching the screen. You can get them pretty cheap off Ebay with the screen as a replacement :)
Okay, thx
I still have a DSlite white. A piece of the top shell where the hinge keeps the top screen up broke off.
Just have to figure out how to fix that or find a place to repair that. Last white one I got broke off at the recharge and wifi indicator corner.
Thank you for 6:04
Hi Joey. Just discovered and subscribed to your channel - keep up the good work. 😀👍
I've recently bought cheap a "spares or repairs" DS Lite via an auction site, which has been cosmetically beaten around. Amazingly (apart from the top screen with a torn ribbon which could be replaced from Zedlabz or similar vendor, but that's a different story) it seemed to work.
However, upon trying to restore (for myself) and re-shell it, it has emerged that someone has, quite impatiently, attempted to fix it. The clip for the digitiser's ribbon cable was nearly broken off (then pinged off on my first gentle lift 😔) from the motherboard. Do you think it would be realistically possible to, somehow, attach the ribbon to the connectors and permanently glue/pin it down in place?
It would be a shame to waste an otherwise working system due to a minute bracket on a part that can't be reproduced.
Thankyou for the kind words at the start, and welcome to the channel 😁👍
This one seems very interesting! I've not had this problem just yet, but in this scenario specifically I'd probably take the oppertunity to make this DS Lite into a Gameboy Macro! I'd be scared to use a glue or something else on it, perhaps some electric tape to try and hold it in place? I assume that would be the safest bet.
Sorry I don't have a better answer :( I will ask someone who might have a better idea and get back to you though 😁
@@JoeyDoesTech No worries mate. Much appreciated for you to take the time to respond. 🤝
A Gameboy macro maybe the way forward. I may delay the project for a while until I stubbornly find a solution, have a sudden brainwave or cave into the macro route. I'll keep you updated.
@@ToxoRetro So my mate got back to me, and said you can actually buy the clip replacements on auction site and they're REALLY cheap.
The only issue is that apparently they're quite hard to replace, and requires good soldering skills. If you're confident, give it a go and please let me know how you get on 😁😁
@@JoeyDoesTech Oooh, food for thought. 🤔 I would never have considered looking for such a thing - mind blown.
Thank you once again and thanks to your anonymous friend. Much appreciated. 👍
Thanks to your friend's advice, I've since discovered GamesParts' video on replacing the P6 clip (ua-cam.com/video/dRxePF-d9lc/v-deo.html). In the long run, that's probably a better fix than I'd thought up, protecting the ribbon cable for future restorations. I'll think about; I'll see how brave I feel. 😲
What shell would you recommend as a replacement? I need to swap mine out but there are a lot of bad reviews of cheapo repro shells
Hey Brian :) The ones I used currently are Zedlabz on Ebay. I've tried a few and they seem to be the best.
Dont get me wrong, they're not perfect, but the best I've used :)
@@JoeyDoesTech Cheers lad!
I need to do this with my DS lite, but I'm so afraid to jack it up myself. I want someone who's more experienced in changing the shell. If you know a place for me to send it to please let me know. Also, where did you buy your Shell?
Hey I have a problem with my shell (top) how do i snap it into place
Ideally you don't want to snap anything in place Scolding, it should go together relatively easy without any needed force. What part are you having an issue with specifically?
@@JoeyDoesTech well.. I should’ve listened to you because I already broke the top screen...Opps
Question do you know where I can get a battery replacement ds lite?
Your best bet would be Ebay my friend. That's where I tend to get all my parts :)
@@JoeyDoesTech thank you 👍
Way to fast showen for beginners
Sorry this wasn't really a "How to" guide but more for entertainment :)
@@JoeyDoesTech anyway cool video 😊
