The most classic BYU image of the season was when the ASU fans prematurely rushed the field, and while Coach Dillingham was having his meltdown, Kilani was out on the field smiling and fist bumping the ASU fans . . . made me proud to be a BYU fan.
BYU fan and can't spell Kalani's name right, is crazy 😂
@@teti_99Well, you can't blame "white and delightsome" fans for having trouble spelling ethnic names. Hilarious.
@@teti_99 Give yourself a trophy!! No one cares!
What’s hilarious is that he didn’t REALLY apologize, and he never will.
No, “I’m sorry,” no, “I apologize.” He’s really good at ALMOST apologizing.
This guy shoulda been out on his ass an hour after his Holy War Tirade. People wonder about Utahs Classless fanbase and that old saying really is true. “a fish rots from the head down”
I think Harlan's behavior perfectly reflected the type of program many Utah fans have wanted for decades. Bullish, stupid, and a complete embarrassment to the entire state.
Pretty insane that it took over TWO MONTHS for him to attempt an "apology".
Always love your videos John. It’s so validating as a BYU fan to see other league voices recognize Utah’s behavior. Now imagine growing up near Salt Lake as a young teen when Utah got invited to the PAC-12. They were insufferable. This year felt like a culmination of karma that had been long overdue. Go Cougs 🤙
As a BYU fan my happiest football seasons were the ones that did not include a game with the U. It didn’t matter if the Y won or not.
The real apology he should have made was to Utah fans for dumping all the NIL money on an injury prone QB.
Harlan's words ring hollow. He waited far too long to apologize. He needs to go! Which words does he not mean, they are above the BIGXII, they were robbed, truck stop or they are happy to be where they are, reached out and apologized blah, blah, blah?
Well said, John, you did a great dissection of the situation.
I still don't understsnd why he blamed the Big 12 in regards to the holding call. That could happen in any conference. That didn't make any sense to blast the Big12 to begin with. Yormark is working to grow this conference. If Utah decides it is unhappy and decides to leave at some point, I wish them well.
Kudos to him for finally coming out…who are you kidding? Someone has pushed him to come out with an (airless) excuse. It has again made the social news and still is a stain on the Utah. Utah is not my team when they play BYU, but are my team on all of the other games, Go Utes! But Harlan must go! What a disgrace!
‘Look at our Rose Bowls’ when referring to Utah is amazing. John knows how to endear himself to BYU fans.
Aaaaaand how many of those Rose Bowls did they win?
The Puke12 was BY FAR the weakest football conference in the P5.
Looking now, multiple championships have not proven anything.
Utah governement/education salaries are public information, and Harlan makes $950,000 per year. By the way, Kyle Whittingham is the highest paid state of Utah employee at $5.46 million.
@@MikeTerry1969 Wasn't the 'church' recently fined by the Securities Exchange Commission for $5 million dollars for obscuring the billions in their portfolio with Ensign Peak Investments?
... And here you are complaining about what Whittingham makes. You cannot make this stuff up with tds fans. Hilarious.
yep, and that's just base salary
@@MikeTerry1969 Right... Ensign Peak Investments. Hilarious.
That is exactly how a leader at the U is expected to behave. They can piss off back to the Pac2.
Meh, at least we don't give 10% of our income to a cult and wear magic underpants.
@@LockeDemosthenes2 That would be Kyle.
@@davus4242 and not BYU's coach? What I should've said is that at least our school isn't literally run by a cult.
@@LockeDemosthenes2 No, you’re doing much worse, you’re sitting behind your phone pulling Cheetos out of your bellybutton trolling a religious group of people. Let’s keep it relevant bud. Utah sucks and the AD is a little boy.
John,
That is why Utah was kicking and screaming about not wanting in. When Utah & BYU are on level ground, Utah is always 2nd fiddle.
I’m a byu fan but this is categorically untrue 😂
@@Thehouse385Actually…it is true. Only took two short years on a level playing field for BYU to reverse 10+ years of inequality.
@@Thehouse385the only reason Utah even leads the series is because they had 35 wins against BYU before the forward pass was invented
Quick guys everyone go look at Utahs all time record against BYU so we can see how 2nd fiddle they are. Also check what conference both teams were in during 2004 and 2008…..😂
Well, the last decade or so of Utah's membership in the Mountain West Conference saw Utah's recruiting, and thus on-field performance, ascend and surpass that of BYU. This is one season. Utah still gets higher ranked recruiting classes consistently. BYU needs to substantially close that gap.
It’s been this way for 50 years. Both schools have had their ups and downs, but the behavior of a large percentage of Ute fans has been an embarrassment to the state. Can’t say BYU is always as classy as they were this year, but they understand who they represent.
Mark Harlan needs to send an official written apology to the ref he berated when he walked out on the field before the game was even over. Until he does that he's trash to me. I had a lot of respect for Kyle Whitingham until that juvenile tantrum. After seeing other angles, the call was not only the right call, but a necessary call.
TRUTH!! Well said!
On the other hand, perhaps Harlan did give the response appropriate for a program of that stature.
BYU is glad to have found a home after wandering the desert, Utah finally got to the top of the Pac-12 after being good but never great for years, only to have everything crumble around them. I dont think the Big-12 really understands this rivalry, and both sides have had their moments of poor behavior.
In the 90s, the great friendship between coaches Lavell Edwards & Ron McBride made the rivalry fun & light-hearted.
Those days are long gone. Unfortunately, the rivalry is now nasty & mean-spirited. I was looking forward to NEVER playing the Utes again, and anticipating new, good-natured rivalries with Baylor and Kansas.
Was bitterly disappointed when the U unexpectedly (and very reluctantly) left the disintegrating Pac12 for the Big12. Just go AWAY, Utah.
I have just ONE name for you. Urban Meyer. He alone destroyed what was once a somewhat friendly rivalry.
He created a toxic situation at Utah, and other coaches just jumped on that bandwagon. Now you have his childish protégé as HC, and the heir apparent will just continue the obnoxious state of the program.
Perhaps a coach should be hired that teaches discipline and respect as opposed to holding the receivers every down, and take cheap shots in the pile to try to injure opponents.
@@brianc.1149very well put and spot on!
BYU fans remember, not all Utah fans acted like Harlan. Lifelong BYU fan, but Ut I like to cheer for Utah. Civil discourse on both sides please
Harlan can shove it 😂
With all candor, I believe that going independent wore down a lot of the rough edges on BYU's fanbase and in the athletic dept. As hard as that era was, it was good for us. I believe it made us comfortable in our own skin.
I bet, if BYU had been added to the Big 12 12 years ago, we would have been annoying (like Utah, perhaps). If we keep being successful, I'm sure we'll get more annoying.
Anyway, we're thrilled to be in the Big 12. It rocks.
It’s been said, stepping into a turd and then stepping out isn’t the same as not stepping into the turd to begin with.
Utah’s not happy to be in the Big 12 compared to where they were, and who can blame them for that? But you don’t say it, and you can’t undo saying it, even with a heartfelt apology two months late.
The Utah brass had one opportunity correct Harlan’s supposed misstatement and they stood silent. It’s not like they had to fire the guy, but a public correction was absolutely warranted.
So no one should believe Utah is suddenly glad to be in the Big 12, and that’s fine. What has changed in the past 60 days? Was Utah’s membership threatened? I seriously doubt it.
Nothing has changed, we still hate being in the B12 and will gladly leave for the B1G at the next round of realignment.
@@richaustin5849 How in your right mind do you even THINK the B1G is even SNIFFING at the newts?
You sure think that you play some high falutin' brand of football if you think you have a shot there.
Fact: Whitt is well known for taking his best offensive players and putting them on defense
Fact: When have you EVER had a high-octane offense?
Suppose you go to the 1G, you're going to be a dormat team just like you'll be in the BIG XII.
You'd think this season would have been an opportunity to feast on crow with a humble pie dessert, but instead you double down on moronic comments which will NEVER come to pass.
Please, for the love of GOD go back to your conference of champions. At least there you may win a couple more championships and return to the Rose Bowl to be trounced a few more times.
Lol hilarious that anyone thinks the big 10 wants Utah...
@@best1213best will be even funnier when Utah actually goes to the B1G…all the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth will be hilarious!
@@richaustin5849 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Excellent take John.
I grew up in Olathe but graduated from ASU. I love how the Big XII has gone and look forward to more success from teams like KSU, TTU, and everybody else.
I wanted Utah in the conference but didn't expect their nasty chip on their shoulder.
Glad that Harmon accepted some fault.
In utahs defense BYU also went 5-7 there first year in a real power conference.
It's clear by your poor spelling that you attended U of U.
The difference is that BYU came into the conference thankful for being a part of the Big 12. Utah came in arrogant, thinking they would own the conference and thinking they were too good for the Big12.
@@michelleweintraub945 AND they came in after years of independence and poor recruiting because they were independent.
The newts came from the "conference of champions." They had a decade of more money, opportunity for better recruiting, and a smug attitude that made them think they were better than the situation they were in.
Also, the difference is that BYU came in from a disadvantage of being Independent. Whereas the team up north came in from winning the PACWhatever a “power conference”
Go Cougs! Love the Big 12!!!
Yes sir. You really showed your butt. But, it happens. Now get in and help the Big 12 be the best conference in college football. WE'RE glad to have Utah!!
i am not sure that word - we're - means what you think it does. 🤓 Fair enough, some of us in the BIG12 are glad but alas, not all are.
The Newts stink, John. No matter their record.
As a byu fan and alum since the '90s, i feel like there is a lot of water under the holy war bridge that the big 12 is unaware of. Although i agree with everything in this video, BYU has not always been a great conference partner and not always humble.
I think the 12 years wandering in the Independence desert not having a seat at the table has humbled a whole fan base and made us better fans and instilled better sportsmanship.
Having kalani as our leader makes it easy to put into perspective, the game.
amen. I remember when our fan base was so out of touch that after Lavell went 8-4 or 7-5 one year they were calling for his head because "the old man has lost it". BYU has had, and does have, its share of arrogant fans. But I will say, Utah's idiots are a little extra compared to our idiots at BYU.
A lot less piss n vinegar now. Maybe they should be thankful they’re even in it still. Always the PAC and MWC but it would be disastrous for them to go independent. Not everyone is Notre Dame.
Too little too late. It took this long for Harlin to figure out the call the right and he had no class?
John, your viewers being redirected to other college sports podcasts produced by other big media networks. First your podcast is interrupted by an ad. Then after the ad is over utube redirects to Fox's Joel Klatt podcast.
It's about time...
👍👍
Strong anti-Utah bias on this channel. Byu is not "humble as can be." I think that fact will reveal itself in due time.
This season they were. Maybe Utah will get there but I doubt it. I’ve seen some embarrassing stuff from BYU over the years, but it seems that they are moving in the right direction overall. That’s the difference.
Very biased take. You can talk about Harlan’s situation without trying to bring down an entire fan base.
One man or a small group on twitter does not reflect all of Utahs fan as you are alluding to.
#BlueGogglesOnTight
You’re right one person does not represent the entire fan base, but when the AD of school makes a statement like the one he made it’s bad he’s supposed to be the adult in the room. When a regular fan or even a student athlete makes a bad comment it’s easier to ignore it maybe it’s not fair but the guy making the big bucks is going to get nailed for making that statement.
Not all Utah fans, but a majority of them. Most are insufferable but a few are cool.
My brother wears crimson sunglasses, and we cannot talk about sports at all because he has deluded himself into thinking the newts can do no wrong.
We go out as siblings once a month for dinner, and you can be damn sure he'll show up wearing his gear.
He is also one of those delusional folks who feels it's always someone else's fault for the newts shortcomings.
Give us all a Break. Harlan isn't 'just a fan'. He's the AD of a University and a Program. He Disgraced the University, Utahs Players, the BIG 12, Utahs Fans, the Referees, and Himself. He proved in mere seconds that he isn't the man for the Job at Utah.
But so many fans call this conference a “truck stop conference.” You find these right in this very comment section. It seems that Harlan said the quiet parts out loud in November after the BYU game.
couldn't leave it at 69 comments lol
There’s a hold on every play, whether the officials see it and call it is a different story.
My brother played for Coach Wittingham's brother as a left tackle. That Coach Wit had a rule of "Make them Call It". BYU made them call it.
Utah did well at 5 and 7. Why? Because they lost narrowly game after game. If one looks at the win/loss record, it doesn't look good but if you were cheering for Utah while watching the games you'd be frustrated that the team came so close so many times. In addition, Utah got more money this season from the Big12 than the 4 teams that joined the prior year. A lot more. The Big12 showed CU, UU, ASU and AU more respect as former PAC12 members. And I 100% agree. Had Utah had BYU's record, Utah would've been in the CFP.
I just wish the B1G and SEC didn't have all the influence they have but I get that they have massive stadiums and large followings. Go Baylor
Wanna know who else has a massive stadium? It's in Utah, but it sure isn't on the hill!
