Before the new Netflix show get up to speed on this extremely important character for the Masters of the Universe Brand
Kudos to who ever came up with the idea of making a King Grayskull, it gives depth to the mytology, catches the attention of the casual fan and it gives a different spin to the He Man concept. Great character.

I'm NATIVE AMERICAN , were are my people represented in MOTU ? We all know Adam / HE-MAN's mother is from Earth . How hard would it be to send a Rescue Party out to search for her after Earth lost contact with her space ship and introduce NATIVE AMERICANS into the MOTU by having NATIVE AMERICANS on the Rescue Party sent to search for her ? Tired of them giving us hand me down characters. Give us new characters. No one I assure you none of us black folks ask for this nor said wheres the black people. It's mostly white folks who act like they are doing us a favor to make themselves feel good thats calling for all of this. I don't like those folks.
Mighty Spector is a new character...
IIRC; this king greyskul is a new character. This isn't the 200x series where he existed beyond a world building background name.
Give me a Zulu warrior ‘He-Man’. Culture is more than skin color. It would make the character more iconic.
@@jeremymullens7167 That would be amazing, but let's be honest, Eternia has displayed no real life culture either. Pieces and bits that coincide or resemble superficially, yes, but it has always been its own fantasy world and culture. So what you actively is doing is artificially increasing the standards for the representation of a darker brown skinned character where the bar for other skin tones is just non existent. And a real odd one, given that it is a primarily US show, and Zulu is South African. Kinda sus to be honest .
I'm surprised you didn't mention that King Grayskull was based on the Four Horsemen's original concept for the reimagined He-Man. Their intial design had long braided hair like Grayskull.
That is a great point! I;ll try to note that in a future video
I often imagine how awesome the other characters would have looked if Mattel went with that more savage concept.
At least we were lucky enough to have the 2000 animated series. In my opinion the best He-Man series.
Agreed!
Yeah, I'd definitely agree with that. I grew up with the original and hold it dear to my heart, but the 200X show, imo, is superior to the original in every way except for music. You just can't beat that Filmation soundtrack.

"What happens when you repress the power of Grayskull?

Now I need to see King Grayskull riding a wax lion.
Why have I not tried this before!
See a penny…pick it up.
So if King Grayskull got his (and Adam’s) sword from He-Ro, where did She-Ra’s sword come from? Did it split in two, or did they create a new sword?
In Classics it is a clone of the Sword of He. See hereua-cam.com/video/ZnWtjeuHdO8/v-deo.html
Plain and simple, She-Ra was made from bullshit and fairy dust to appeal to a broader female audience despite MOTU already having a fairly big female audience and Classics did their best to make sense of it all.
I'm glad King Grayskull will be getting more attention, even if he looks different. Always found the concept of a "King Grayskull" to be very interesting. Of course, I still want to see the entire story, beginning to end, using the Classics bios and DH comics, on screen as an animated series or series of movies.
Any attention is good attention

I gotta say that I was never really a fan of King Grayskull: he always felt like a Mary Sue character character created for a fanfic. "You think He-Man is great? King Grayskull is better!!! He's bigger, stronger, AND he's the source of the power of Castle Grayskull that He-Man draws on!" _(I'm taking about the version established in the 200X cartoon, not the one shown in the comics in this video)_ I'm a bigger fan of He-Ro being He-Man's ancestor because he wasn't built up as the ultimate being or whatever; he was just a powerful sorcerer with a strength level on par with He-Man, iirc.
Well I guess we will see now what role he plays in "Filmation"

I'll address this when I get to the castle video for sure!
Sorry, but race swapping characters is total BS and is never ok.
Just make new characters
Actually there was gonna be a new black character but they decided to race swap grayskull(also andrea) cause they tought a new black character wouldn't be as popular as race swapping one that already is, they seem to ignore the countless times this backfires specially in recent years and the theory is that Adam is not his decendant but actually it is Andrea and that she will replace heman somehow because both have been race swap, she is also no longer a human astronaut like in the old version, this is all coming from the voice actress when she revealed she had to say the "I have the power" line for the auditions or something so the theory is that in the second part she will be revealed as King grayskulls decendant, Evil Lyn is gonna have a major role now probably replacing Skeletor as Kevin Smith confirmed that Evil Lyn will be important and said something like what will happen to them in a world without heman and skeletor implying this theory that they are gonna be replaced or sideline is actually true, I think Teela with her sorcerer powers aWOKEn will probably substitute Duncan as a man at arms with magical powers. In other words this is a huge messy nonesense.
Well what I don't like now is that they made He-Ro son of King Grayskull in the prequel comic.
Yeah that is kinda odd
Not if the show ends with He-Man naming his son after the boy😉
Everything we have either read, watched, heard, etc about the upcoming series is The perfect reason why they need to have someone who is not only qualified to be in charge of a particular product but a fan of it as well! For example, your self with the various lines you have worked on, Dave Filoni, John Favreau, etc…..
Dave and John are a godsend to Sw!
You know now you have to make a video on changing a tire…
Damn it.
King grayskull is my favorite caracter from the brand, didnt like mutch the new comic with the new origin
Glad he has become so beloved!
Here and I don’t like that they changed his race.
I have no problem with the 'new' king grayskull, though i do prefer the 200x version because i am admittedly biased (I am the only blonde in my family and always preferred blonde characters in my cartoons as a kid) As for the character, I always liked the more conan-esque version of he-man and I feel that King Grayskull encapsulated that. I DO hope we get a new king grayskull figure in the revelations line, if only for the fact I would probably kit bash/repaint it to make a 200x version.
Well now it is an easy redeco
Great upload Scott. As far as I’m concerned the MYP cartoon is cannon and the Kevin Smith Netflix version is not.
I"m holding out judgement till I see it
Now you have to do a video with Man at Arms discussing how to change a tire on the Battle Ram.
Clearly I do
While i love the netflix black greyskull…imma custom an actual white greyskull when i get to buy the figure.
I just made one myself, if you use the savage he-man head it looks pretty close
The Netflix Comic reveal that King Greyskull has a white and black son but the black son died, so the white son later became HeRo and probably the ancestor of HeMan. So who Netflix HeRo biological father, was he a Orphan or a Child of Queen Greyskull from another marriage?
Or they could have kept him white, and saved you from your mental gymnastics.

I like this video a lot :) Thanks for clarifying that the African American behind Adam from the new show trailer is actually King Grayskull :) Really excited for the new show. I just hope won't have to wait long to see part 2. Also, do you think that Teela will finally find out about the sorceress is her mother? Since the show has her as the main focus of the show. And what so you guess will happen, now that the power sword has been split into 2? Really glad they finally did that in cartoon since it was 1st told in the original mini comic.

There's a prequel comic out for Revelations now that changes the story so that He-Ro is now King Grayskull and Veena's son. Was King Grayskull getting the sword from He-Ro and cutting off Hordak's arm a storyline from the Mike Young show/was made up by the people running things in the 200x era or was it put together for the Classics toyline? Seeing Spector as a member of his Masters group makes me question if a lot of this background info was made up after the fact for the Classics line and was not part of the Mike Young series were he first appeared.
It was a little of both. We stuck to the notes for season 3 as much as possible and filled in the gaps where we could
I love the statue version. I wish I had that one in my 34 year old collection
It was a variant worth tracking down
Think you can do a video explaining the Sorceresses of Caste Grayskull? How are they chosen, what do they do, and who gives them their powers (the Goddess?). Do they chose the He-Men? Veena is implied to be the first, and I had to look up Sorceress's immediate predecessor (Kuduk Ungol).
I'll add it to the list!
My current hope is that the MOTU line will eventually get a full on comic series. I personally believe that this is the way to go instead of investing milions in movies/series that just don't deliver justice to the franchise. The cost and investment would be allot less+ there's so much to be explored over a long series.
Not a reboot and repetition of the original stories but just continue and build upon what we allready know(with certain flashbacks in between).
There is a comic series and has been for a few years! It is from DC
Have you read the new comic based on the Netflix show yet?
Not ye,t, but I will be swinging by Acme Comics on Wed.

@Spector Creative Ummm there is a BIG correction on this, The Netflix show is its OWN show, it has nothing to do with the Filmation show because that is illegal. It's like saying that the 2002 show is part of the 80s show, when one is Filmation and the other is Mike Young Productions, this new one is Netflix. That correction Kevin Smith himself had to correct his own dumb expressions about his show being a supposed "sequel" the Filmation series saying that it is a Spiritual successor to the Filmation because it cannot be a sequel to it. The only thing Filmation, the MYP, even the New Adventures, She-Ra (old and new) and this show have in common is that they all are MOTU.
Yup! I was definitely under the impression that it was a sequel. It is clearly and legally not
@@spectorcreative1872 You and many others had that impression because that is what Smith had originally spread and then everyone even Netflix pushed. Because of that marketing ploy you and others are not at fault for thinking it was. Yet, it was never possible for this new show to be a sequel because the 80s show never had a straight line of stories. Each episode was its own narrative, only because certain characters appeared or were introduced you could see a progression but it had no solid story to follow, unlike the 2002 MYP series, where even some episodes were their own, the great majority followed a cohesive transition and progression as well as relating to past episodes. If anything, it would had been simpler to continue and finalize the 2002 series and not leave it hanging as it was, even if they had to change some of the aesthetics to resemble the 80s show as the new one is doing. I will not get into the resent problems the show now carries thanks to its narrative, but suffice to say it will have its fair share of problems.
The Spirit of Castle Grayskull was also part of the German Audio Cassette (Hörspiele - Audioplays maybe). It started with a male voice and turned into Zoar when it left the Castle. Later it got a female voice and even after this in changed into the known form of the Scorceress. They mentioned the change of her look in one of the episodes. Originally the Spirit of Grayskull was a red mist with a floating skull in it. No mention of a King Grayskull of course.
Oh that is awesome! I don't speak German so I am not 100% familiar with the details. Thanks for noting this!
@@spectorcreative1872 Anytime. I just checked because I didn't remember if they gave a reason. Turns out they didn't. The Narrator just mentioned the new look and that He-Man and Man-at-Arms looked at each other in surprise. It was the 24th episode (of 37). I occassionally revisit them. They are more or less my version of MotU as far as the characterizations go. Ram Man for example is quite an intelligent guy. Contrary to his cartoon counterpart. Not a big fan of the 80s cartoon despite MotU being my favorite toys, to be honest.
I guess this episode got its release when the figure came out and before that they did their interpretation of the Spirit of Grayskull based on those mini comics you've mentioned.
BTW: How come you did Anti He-Man from those in Classics?

Also the spirit did appear in a Filmation episode. It's an underused motif but I use it to put that point dread book in with the tribal he-man original continuity because aside from 1 Filmation episode that's the only place it was used. Now knowing the Elders backstory it must be their combined conciousness.

I think it's a stretch to dictate that the 80s Minicomics had the Spirit of the CASTLE as the Spirit of a HUMAN Grayskull and that Human was shown in the Throne in the aptly titled "King of Grayskull" minicomic. There was never any indication in the minicomics that there was a KNOWN human who created Castle Grayskull; in fact, Grayskull--according to the minicomic--was built by UNKNOWN hands. They may not have even been human to begin with.
King Grayskull in the 82 series is a bit of well-designed Retcon that works BECAUSE the events were so shrouded in mystery. But it's STILL that...Retcon.

More bullshit politics mixed with my entertainmentthat right there is going to stop me from watching it when it first comes out now. Either way it comes off as disingenuous and trolly. Prove me wrong. Come back after ACTUALLY WATCHING THE SHOW and provide actual proof (with episode numbers and time stamps where applicable).
@@MungkaeX Yer wasting time arguing people who start an "analysis" with a foregone conclusion they have to just rationalize reality so they can arrive where they always were going to arrive.

he black
@@jojoewinmoore4856 no, his name.
Its all about news
I like the Netflix design for King GraySkull more than the original one, besides He-Man was originally meant to be racially ambiguous with arabic and russian elements.
That said with a name like GraySKULL, I'd expect him to if not be a skeleton man, than at least have skull shoulders, skull belt, Skull helmet and such. Or become something like Castle Grayskullman when he dies.
I was reading how the old vintage comics depicted his ghost as a skull shaped cloud of smoke and I like that. Basically I think Grayskull should have more skeletons in his closet, he can still look heroic with a fanged skull on his harness for example!
Well it could still happen
You see that figure statue over there? Yeah upsize it and BRING it to the convention! Why not? It’s for marketing!
After that it goes in my office

It came from outer space, space, space...
Or inner earth. One of the two
So every king other than Randor got to be a he man ?
Prince keldor couldn't be king because he was blue and his younger brother usurped him so neither was offered the power sword.?
This is some deep stuff.
Oh no not at all. See here. Not every He-Man was a king and no others but Adam were in the bloodline:ua-cam.com/video/Y0ciYnFaJMw/v-deo.html

Was King GreySkull a demi-god?
Nope. Just a guy
People who read the new comic have told me that new Netflix King Greyskull now act like Thor then King Greyskull, So basically he just King Greyskull in name only.
Does he have a hammer?
@@spectorcreative1872 Actually he did in page 15 when he was forging a new sword.
It ain't about hating anyone nor being racist, we all bleed red regarless of ethnicity and race. But things THE WAY THEY WERE FIRST CREATED are best. Imagine a remake of, say... Fresh Prince Of Bell Air, or Everybody Hates Chris, hell, even The Cosby Show, but with an all White Anglo Saxon, Blond and Blue eyed cast. Even if they managed to be funny, and they turn out to be the best actors ever, they're still a bunch of white people remaking a show we all learned to love and laugh with precisely because they were black. So, making them white, just to cater to an all white audience would be real stupid. All of the above named sitcoms are lovable and funny, and are so well known and loved, even by many white folks, because we all first got to like them for being black. Ain't nothing wrong with diversity and inclusiveness. But once audiences have learned to appreciate, and love characters and shows whatever race they belong to, changing them for actors of another race is just wrong for the show and it sucks for audiences as well. Plain and simple. Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman are white caucasian characters and making them black, latino, or asian, would be just as stupid as asking people (all races), to accept a remake of the HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS, or FAT ALBERT, AND HIS FRIENDS, to be all white people. NO!! we love those characters being black. Just let originals stay original. Stop messing with movie and tv characters we all learned to appreciate when we were kids, being whatever race they were made to be in the first place. Producers and casting directors, quit screwing with our memories!!
💯
I just can't get into japanimation for some reason. I remember when 200x was on, it was on my screen long enough to see what it was and I kept clicking. New show looks the same to me. Not knocking it down, just doesn't have my interest like the original toys and comics did
But this is an American animation…the company Powerhouse are based in Texas. Also a lot of old cartoon were animated by Korean or Asian companies like Thundercats and Silverhawks for example.
So if you don’t like the style of the animation then you don’t like American animation companies using non American styles
@@Wezt334 Most cartoons get sent overseas to fill in the storyboards. It looks japanimation. My kids are getting into horror movies now. Watching the early 2000s stuff that got ripped from Japan cause Hollywood ran out of ideas back then. You are correct, I don't like the style. Funky frame rates, over acting or under acting. Don't have Netflix anymore and don't plan on restarting any time soon. Streaming services are the final nail in the coffin of video and film being an art form
@@Wezt334 2 words: Scrawny He-Man. What is there to like?
japanimation isnt right!!! anime MAYBE!!!???

I actually think it is called the Snout Spout brand now
Yeah, but he'd probably end up being a robot giraffe.
The new show isn’t a sequel to the original show. It’s like the New Adventures... its in its own “Masterverse”. King Grayskull doesn’t exist in most continuities including the original Filmation cartoon.
And in the 200X cartoon he isn’t ancestor of Adam... King Grayskull didn’t have any children and Randor gets made king
I get that’s it’s a needless change with the new show but this is a new timeline... a new Masterverse
This is what I am most curious about
Mmm...you see, that beautiful story you just tolde was and is the way of thing, but this pushing,of force changes, are not the way...d
This is the way (or is not)
I see no one's Bitching About CGI King Grayskull being different, I wonder why?
Why is Deadpool in everything? 🙄 Ugh....
Because he's awesome. 🥰
He always wears the brown pants
Never into King Grayskull as a barbarian king with lineage to He-Man. Makes every thing too small and convenient.
It does not
I had gotten the idea from the 2000s version that when Adam Transform into HeMan he was taping into the power or spirt of King Greyskull and HeMan form was just a small fraction of King Greyskull power, Given time he would have unlocked to full power and do a complete transformation to King Greyskull.
Still saying that Classics are 6 inches when they are 7 inches! :P
They are technically 6.5". Designed to be 6" scale and just a bit bigger so that compared to other heroes He-Man is bigger. If you compare it to a true 7" line like the McFarlane DC, you can dee it is not 7" compatible.
I'm happy to report that just this week I've finally managed to add King&Queen Grayskull to my MotuC collection :D It wasn't easy, it took me a couple of years, but it was so worth it. I absolutely adore that line, and those two are to me a definite highlight. More on the topic: I enjoy this addition to He-Man mythos as I feel it somehow taps into the barbaric origins of the character in the original mini-comics, while also giving the story new depth. I'd welcome a King Grayskull comic book series, focusing on the conflict against Snake Men and the Horde. He was featured in the DC MotU series from the N52 era, but only in a minor flashback. Such a series could give us a welcome expansion to the 2002/MotuC lore and I'm sure it would also be enjoyable to people who are simply fans of heroic fantasy. Just don't let anyone like Kevin Smith anywhere near it :P
Awesome. Worth getting!
