@@artema. Joestar family tree isn't really that confusing, the only thing that can be considered wierd by people who don't watch Jojo is DIO joining in but explanation is pretty simple: DIO who was a vampire took over Jonathan's body and had 4 kids with random women, his vampirism was overwriting Jonathan's body as his but the process wasn't finished so kids he made are both his and Jonathan's (because a bit of his DNA remained). Green Baby is also kinda related to DIO but it's a monster created from his bone and 36 souls so it's not really his kid.
@@fly672 Look, Giorno (and all other kids of DIO) is Jolyne's great great great great uncle, Josuke is Jotaro's (half?-)uncle, Giorno has 2 biological dads, 1 step dad, 1 adoptive dad and 1 biological mother and it keeps going xD
Egyptian mythology on the other hand is full of it, is also the reason why royal families tried to keep their bloodlines "pure" and it's theorised why Tutankhamun died so young
I think it is worth mentioning (and possibly editing) that Hermes also is, in some ways, a death god. If I remember correctly, Thanatos actually deals with your death, Hermes transports your soul to the underworld, and Hades is the "Warden" so to speak. It is also worth mentioning that, just like Aphrodite, in some myths about Dionysus, he has existed for long before all the other gods, and is another sort of primordial being of indeterminate birth.
Well "Charos" is the Boatman of the underword transfering your soul to it - although, in order to reach the port of the that boatman, Hermes had to tranfer you there. Thanatos is actually the word Death in greek so, i tend to believe he was more of a concept-kind-of-god than having a real duty, since Hades was ruling the underworld. Not that sure about that though. I'm not an expert, just know a couple things out of chance cos im greek haha.
@@eternal___official the way I saw it (and this depends on what canonicity you follow) Thanatos sort of separates your soul from your body when you die (or really, kills you, because without Thanatos you cannot die. See, Sisyphus) Hermes takes your soul and delivers it to the outer shore of the underworld Charon/Kharon ferry's your soul across the river Styx to the shore of the underworld proper (given you have the coinage) Cerberus/Kerberos guards the gates of hades, only allowing entry to those who belong there (and keeping those who shouldn't leave in) And Hades is like the warden overseeing the entirety of the underworld
@@scrungozeclown836 This sounds pretty functioning. I like how you imagine Thanatos - kind of the same way people see the Grim Reaper today, thought it may be inspired from Charos. It makes more sense like this. At least, considering his name (Thanatos) which literaly means "Death" till this day.
Have you considered making these posters into a more interactive website? I would love to be able to click on each god and go to a more in depth page about them. Hey folks please remember that there are many different versions of Ancient Greek mythos and lore. What may be correct in one version of a myth might not be correct in another version
Amazing! I would like also to add that Zeus actually had a phropecy about him having a child that is much better than him and that time he was with Metis. What happened is Zeus ate Metis, but Metis resided in Zeus's mind while she was pregnant, then Athena sprung out of Zeus's head. Metis did not came out of Zeus's head and now she is refered to as our conscience.
Metis is Jupiter's moon. In fact, that moon will eventually spiral into Jupiter and become part of the planet due to it orbiting faster than the planet spins.
Great video! Indeed my peoples mythology never seize to amaze me ! Every version of it is complicated but very intersting. You could make a 20 min video for every god, titan, deity and still will not be enough! For example Pan the god and protector of sheperds is also mentioned being the son of Gaia. This is why we see him so close to nature and one of the few gods who could see and talk to Nymphs (mortals could have had many problems with them). Also it is said that Pan helped the greeks in the battle of Marathonas in which he made a terryfying growl which made the Persians to panic. It is very well believed that the word panic comes from that day, from Pan which now is a term to descibe something very big and general (his growl echoed from a big distance and made every enemy terrorised). Words with pan in it like a Pan-demic or a panorama. I hope you read my comment :) Have a nice day folks!
I started learning about Greek mythology when I was 7 - that was nearly 50 years ago and it STILL KEEPS CHANGING!!!! Some sources have Aphrodite married to Hephasteus who had an idea his wife was playing around so he made a net of super fine gold and caught Ares and her in the act. He was also the god who made Zeus's lightning bolts, and the Trident of Poseidon (3 prongs) and the Bident of Hades (2 prongs).
That's because there isn't a source which is 100% accurate,as it's depicted differently by many ancient documents.Besides,it's a man-made religion,so it's natural that in each historical period it was viewd with alterations varying from one another.Every myth depicts the gods differently, mostly serving the purpose of that specific myth and not the bigger image;Greek Mythology as a whole and complete lineage of Titans,Gods(Primordial,Olympian,Minor etc),Creatures/Monsters and Heroes.
@@chrisandrikos3684 ...but the point is, religion reveals deep metaphorical truths about the Universe. Man (mortal being) simply observes what he see's and writes it down. It becomes a religion to the extent that it resonates with ppl as being true, in some sense. It is striking how similarities you can draw between ancient mythology, world religion and the origins of life on Earth, according to mainstream science. They all start with nothing, then light, then stars, then planets, then life, then evolution of life.

Hyas Musica Chaos is but a different interpretation of the original, first being. Sometimes it’s Chaos, sometimes it’s Chronos and Ananke. It really depends on the version you read.
Fun Fact: Pan, the God of Shepherding, is normally considered to be calm and friendly to the humans, however it is also said that whoever disturbs his rest in the noon makes him extremely angry and dangerous, spreading chaos everywhere. Hence the word "PANic".
In the Greek mythology, it was divided into three generations, the Primordial, the Titans and the Olympians, wherein among the three the Olympians Gods is the most well-known throughout the world and up until this generation. Through the use of Family tree, it was identified which and where a certain God come from that helps the many be able to recognize and become aware of where these famous Greek God’s really came from. Most of the time Chaos is all unfortunate events yet on the other side it has its own blessing to be perceived. The God’s can be described as the highest among the highest creatures and is also created to be able to fill in the needs of human, it also helps balance system of the world in general. With that said, the legacy of the Greek Mythology is far from perfection yet its has its own beauty to be awe. I felt satisfied after watching this video because a lot of my questions regarding Greek Mythology were answered in here.
11:09 Plato tried to reconcile those to myths by differentiating between two seperate Aphrodites: -Aphrodite Urania, the daughter of Uranus -Aphrodite Pandemos, the daughter of Zeus
Several mistakes I saw(probably more that I didn’t see): 1.) Phoebe was not a moon goddess, she was a goddess of prophecy and the first one to figure out how to hear the voices of Delphi. And because her grandson Apollo also has the gift of prophecy, he is sometimes called Phoebus Apollo. Phoebe’s husband Koios also has the gift of prophecy and was the Titan of the North. 2.) You forgot to add Zeus and Hera’s other daughter Eileithyia, the first goddess of childbirth(the other being Artemis)
3. Zeus didn't cut open Kronos. He tricked him into drinking something that would make him vomit the first 5 children, who subsequently also helped in the war.
And Hephaistos was the son of Hera herself, and Nike was the personification of Athena (means justice) well the sources differs there is a lot to says to the Multimythologicallyverse
what happened She was about protection of maidens (from men) and didn’t allow men into her virgin huntress entourage, but she was not sexist against men nor did she portray sexist values against them
Just imagine being a kid in the ancient times, the stories your parents would tell you about the Gods before bed or at a nice festival etc. I bet it was glorious.
Some mistakes, but they're very minor ones, and more an absence of even more information. So understandable. As well as that you used the correct name "Herakles" and mentioned "Hekate". Thank you, this is amazing
It took a few minutes to realize this was a new version. I was like, this has been done. Hasn't it? I know it has. I looked it up and then realized you had two versions. I knew I wasn't crazy.
I just realized something if Kratos was the son of Pallas then him taking the position of god of war from Ares is him taking his birthright it was something that was his for the taking
@Rafael Sodre That was the name of her epithet. There are actually a few figures in mythology named Pallas which could have given that name to her epithet. When referring to Pallas the titan, Athena killed him after he tried to rape her. That is just one possible source for her epithet, the other come from the story of Pallas and Athena. In this case Pallas is Triton's daughter and Athena's best friend, and long story short one day they are play-fighting and Athena accidentally kills her, and she ends up so grief stricken that she builds a huge monument in honor of her friend.
The message of the video was all about where the Goddesses of Greek Mythology came from. The lesson that I've learned in this video is the advantage and important of being familiarity in one thing or events that happened from the past. After watching this video, I felt thankful because I've already know the origin of some Goddesses in Greek Mythology.
Thank you for creating this chart and explaining this complicated family tree. I never studied Greek Mythology as a student and am interested it gaining knowledge as an adult.
About Hermaphroditus: in SOME sources he/she/whatever you wanna use, was the child of Aphrodite and Hermes. But in OTHER sources, he was a mortal. One day a nymph or mortal woman (depending on the source) saw him and fell so madly in love she prayed to Aphrodite to never be parted from him. She was moved by the woman's devotion and melded the two together into one being. Please not that Hermaphroditus never consented to this (either he outright rejects the woman OR he isn't even AWARE this woman is obsessed with him). So like... yeah his story is kinda horrifying actually.

For now my daughter was my mother 'cause she was my father's wife
And to complicate the matter even though it brought me joy
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy
My little baby then became a brother-in-law to dad
And so he became my uncle though it mad me very sad
For if he were my uncle that would also made him brother
Of the widows grown-up daughter who was of course my stepmother
Father's wife then had a son who kept them on the run
And he became my grandchild for he was my daughter's son
My wife is now my mother's mother and it makes me blue
Because although she is my wife she's my grandmother two
Now if my wife is my grandmother then I'm her grandchild
And every time I think of it, nearly drives me wild
'Cause now I have become the strangest case you ever saw
As husband of my grandmother I am my own grandpaw
Oh I'm my own grandpaw

It sounds funny I know but it really is so

Zefra hahahahaha
Well to be fair the JoJo family tree also is... quite something else 😂 both are confusing as heck.
@@artema. Joestar family tree isn't really that confusing, the only thing that can be considered wierd by people who don't watch Jojo is DIO joining in but explanation is pretty simple:
DIO who was a vampire took over Jonathan's body and had 4 kids with random women, his vampirism was overwriting Jonathan's body as his but the process wasn't finished so kids he made are both his and Jonathan's (because a bit of his DNA remained).
Green Baby is also kinda related to DIO but it's a monster created from his bone and 36 souls so it's not really his kid.

@@eternal___official the way I saw it (and this depends on what canonicity you follow)
Thanatos sort of separates your soul from your body when you die (or really, kills you, because without Thanatos you cannot die. See, Sisyphus)
Hermes takes your soul and delivers it to the outer shore of the underworld
Charon/Kharon ferry's your soul across the river Styx to the shore of the underworld proper (given you have the coinage)
Cerberus/Kerberos guards the gates of hades, only allowing entry to those who belong there (and keeping those who shouldn't leave in)
And Hades is like the warden overseeing the entirety of the underworld
@@eternal___official "Charos" isn't anything or anyone afaik, tho I assume you mean Charon/Kharon
@@scrungozeclown836 "Charos" is in modern Greek, "Charon" in ancient. Ο χάρων / Ο χάρος.

Several mistakes I saw(probably more that I didn’t see):
1.) Phoebe was not a moon goddess, she was a goddess of prophecy and the first one to figure out how to hear the voices of Delphi. And because her grandson Apollo also has the gift of prophecy, he is sometimes called Phoebus Apollo. Phoebe’s husband Koios also has the gift of prophecy and was the Titan of the North.
2.) You forgot to add Zeus and Hera’s other daughter Eileithyia, the first goddess of childbirth(the other being Artemis)
but whos prophecy? El/YHWH's?

3. Zeus didn't cut open Kronos. He tricked him into drinking something that would make him vomit the first 5 children, who subsequently also helped in the war.
