Hello Tom, unfortunately that would not solve the issue, the ever so slight texture is on the revers side from the application of the gelcoat, the gelcoat is a very robust and thick resin so the only way to remove this is to spray the resin into the mould, for an item like this I don't see the need as this is a lot of function over form. For something like a roof/exterior panel then the resin would be sprayed in to remove this issue, but I assure you that it really isn't noticeable once installed. (you do have a very keen eye though) Thank you for the positive feedback
Class, so when can I borrow your mould for a weekend 🤣 I’m building mk2 rally car and so want these but way to expensive . I made fibreglass mould of tail light protectors and made so carbon ones and was well Impressed Unfortunately I’d have to buy some to make a mould to make one for my mk2 daft really Never mind love watching your work 👍
if your building a mk2 Escort rally car and saying £245 for the above work is "way too expensive" then I would stop the build now lol I know what your saying Dave, building these types of cars are total money pits so you have to decide what is worth spending on and what isnt. If you need any composite advise feel free to get in touch and I will do my best to help. Good luck with the build and if you have any links to the build let me know. Love MK2's
Nice one, really good to see the step by step of the process. I saw that you were using the spray tack on the mould and first layer of carbon, does the spray not affect the surface finish at all?
Hello JP, no not at all, I mean if you put a silly amount on the sure it would be visible once cured but if you just use a light dusting it is completely hidden once infused.
Not at all, there is a layer of uv gelcoat down first then I use the spray tack to hold the fabric in place to that, so the spray tack does not even come into contact with the release agent/mould surface. I hope this helps
Love your work
I'm just starting out with carbon and I'm learning alot 😌
Welcome aboard!
Sweet!

Nice one Bro ;)
Great job. But I think 2500 wet sand and polish will improve finish and lose the orange peel look

Could you do a installation video
I may be able to when I install one on my own race car in the near future
No issues with the spray glue getting through the release agent?

Hi mate, what kind of gelcoat did you aplied on the mold before you lay the carbon layers? Cheers.. great job
Hello Nuno, I use the GC50 epoxy compatible gelcoat supplied by Easy Composites. Hope this helps
@@autoflockmotorsport7730 Alright, so it is the same I use... I am just trying to find a nice epoxy gelcoat to replace it. Thank you for the info.
I need to stop buying other shit and get one of these !
