That, I think, is very much underrated. By the time the 'tutorial/ episode' is over, you so irritated by the (frequent) irritating music, that you do not want to watch it any more,or anything else on that channel.
Great video! Just a tip I've seen elsewhere for those cheap bristle brushes, if you super glue the bristles by the metal part you won't have any strands fall out anymore. Hope it helps!
Bro, YOU ROCK, THANK YOU FOR BEING A FELLOW FABRICATOR. I FABRICATE MOTORCYCLE RACE FAIRING KITS. I CAN ALWAYS COME BACK TONYOUR SITE AND GET SOME TIPS AND IDEAS.
This is great. You should consider putting a linear way guide on both sides of your table. You might even be able to get away with angle iron or a box tube. It will be faster and give you a nice straight edge without thinking. If you want you can even set it up with a CNC length input.
Have you experimented with resins that come close to a heat source? Like a exhaust cover or a high heat area of the engine bay. If so can you recommend a resin what will handle those high heat cycles. Great vids!!
Yes, sort of. I have some intake tubes on the cold side of my turbos and intercooler end tanks. All done with basic epoxy. Never tinkered with specific high heat stuff tho.
Great video. However, I have a question, can you set screws into the epoxy/fiber to install onto aluminum parts? Or will the epoxy adhere to aluminum? I'm making a box for my H-D trike that looks like a 32 Ford coupe, but instead of a trunk or rumble seat, I'm doing an aluminum roll up door, like a roll top desk, and need a way to attach the frame without seeing the fasters. Thanks
It's fantastic! At the last step, you used a small roller to work out the air bubbles. Would you kindly tell me what kind roller it is? Does that roller have needles to pierce air bubbles? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Very nice video very helpfull tks for posting it. You mentionned most of the time 3k is being used. If I want to cover an interior part of my car how many layer of 3k I should do? Tks
If you arent getting a good carbon-to-epoxy ratio doing wet layup then you simply need practice. Too many people use vacuum bagging as a crutch to being crappy at laminating. A good way to practice is laminate with fiberglass cloth. You will be better able to see sections that are too heavy or too light and with time develop a feel for it. When done right it should have a very consistent canvas like look.
Did the oven get out air bubbles? Ive heard of people using a heat gun or torch to get out bubbles. A close up of the finished product would have been cool. Fantastic video!
Bro, you make this look so damn simple but I've had issues in the past. Granted my first attempt had crevices and bends but I was attempting to lay CF over a dash bezel. I failed lol
Just a quick question , can you just lay carbon fiber over a fiberglass hood and epoxy it to it ? Is this a form of wet lay .? Does it need to be 2 layers?
I have an idea...would it be possible to make panels strong enough to be used for making the walls and roof for a camper? I'm thinking layers of carbon and insulation. Maybe 3 so that the panels can be offset to stay a bit more wind/water proof.
Hey AJ, love your videos! For a DIY guy like myself, would you recommend doing wet lay with curved and more complex molds? Or at that point would pooling of the resin be too much of an issue affecting strength and weight.
I'm loving this channel and hatching a plan to start doing my own interior panels for my car's interior. I really think a matte finish would look even better however. I've just done some reading and seen people suggest either sanding the gloss finish back or applying a matte clear coat. Do you have any go to methods for a matte or satin finish?
good afternoon where do you purchase your carbon materials and I like the information abut the different grades of CARBON! I AM NEW TO THIS SO I AM LEARNING WOULD like to try this method to do a sheet of carbon to make a front spliter for my car!
Awesome video AJ! I have a question for you, do you know how people lay two pieces of carbon fabric down lets say in the center of a hood for an example and get it perfectly straight?
I do. And funny enough, literally today am recording laying up a video where I have to put seam down the center of a hood. I will do a video specific on it in the near future.
I’ve got some floor panels in my airplane that are roughly 1/4” thick plywood. I’d love to replace them with some carbon fiber panels. Would a wet lay work well for a 1/4” thick panel? Would I be better off to vacuum bag the panel? Thanks
i build a lot of carbon wings for drag car always wet lay never vacuum bag. i clear gel first . everyone say we build the best carbon wing. do you ever use carbon with weave stabilization ? i like it for the first layer
Thanks for the video. Any problem with using a non shed mini roller for application of the epoxy? Come from a paint background and Wooster makes a nice 5/16 nap micro fiber roller that doesn’t shed and is not too expensive. Couple bucks a piece.
Good explanation. But when ever working with fiber fabrics you should use gloves when touching the fibercloth to prevent leaving grease from your hand on the cloth. It provides you with a better final product.
I'm putting together a high top for my van. I want to do glass or cf over 1.5" foam core sandwich. What's my best option for as light a weight as possible but still be ultra rigid (I'm mounting ac and solar panels as well as a cargo cage)? Thanks
I've worked with E-glass for decades, but with carbon fiber, it's not transparent when wetted out. So how do you know where the bubbles are that need stripling out to the sides?
I’m looking to try do some car wheels Will sand blast it first and may add sand grit in the base coat to help stick Going to skin it and put in a vacuum pack to help stick. Have you seen anyone do this or know of any problems
Do you ever use lantor soric in wet lay? I’ve been playing with in on small pieces with some luck. Vacuum infusion is beyond my current level of patience
I thought for a minute he had got the proportions wrong Divide by 1.25 gives a 1:5 ratio? But f course it is hardener at 1/4 of the resin, plus 4/4 resin so 5/4, or 1.25
Hey, on a resin infusion for a new edge hood, how much epoxy do you use for the inside skin and outside skin? I’m about to make my first attempt and I’m worried I might not buy enough, although it’s expensive 😅
Thank you for the demonstration its clear and easy...no crazy music is also appreciated 😅

Good Job AJ. Straight forward, no BS, no over the top technical tems, calm and well presented. Couldn't have done any better myself.

You are the best person I see on UA-cam other people never show any thing for no one can learn
Awesome video, AJ. Going to be making a 3 layer sheet soon to cut into pieces and use to block off openings on the front bumper.
I need a low seat back for my wheelchair...I am so going to have a go at this. The bought ones are £600! Awesome.
wow, that underside looks amazing!
Excellent process for a carbon fiber construction

Awesome! Thanks so much for doing this. I don't do enough with CF to invest in the vacuum system, so this is kind of perfect.
Gret tips for us car buffs that are not building F1 quality, nor need to! Thanks

Can you do a skinning demo, small parts and trimming would be awesome
AJ, great vid and you made it not intimidating!!! Thanks for sharing and helping others....
Nice. I might have to consider this for an undertray.
Spasibo ! So cool technik 👍 I think it will be cool to put same mirror on top for over night.
Very helpful videos and extremely informative!
Thank you! Glad it helped.
No Peelply?
I have just started using this, great stuff, I was too mean previously, but now think it may save as you end up using less resin.
Looks to me like a kitchen roller, like you use for flattening dough would work well for this.
Very nice and informative AJ. Need to update your outro "Be sure to smash that notification bell, because subscriptions don't mean a thing" ;)
Great video, very informative for beginners!
Dude, I’ve been waiting for this video for a while. Thanks for the info. I’ve been so scared to do it myself
Start small and learn from your mistakes. There will be many.
Thank you for the video. What kind of release agent did you use?

Great primer AJ. I would love to see you expand on this, maybe a wet layup with foam core to add rigidity. Cheers mate
Literally the exact same steps, just a core in the middle.
When your doing it with the foam core do you weigh the core with the carbon?
@@briansexton6695 depends on the core.

250 Superkart floor board . Would one use 24k and 3k ? Looking for rigidity , light but strong. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Awesome stuff.
Very good vidéo Thank you ! How is joint between the layers ,strong or so so ? Can It be better by adding pressure instead of vacuum ?

I’m curious, would this technique work on an old claw foot tub, I wanna restore it but with a high tech flare.

So do you ever use prepreg material? I find it much easier to work with but it does have a short shelf life if you dont have a proper storage freezer

you don't put any release agent on the glass?? before applying the resin?? greetings
I have an idea...would it be possible to make panels strong enough to be used for making the walls and roof for a camper? I'm thinking layers of carbon and insulation. Maybe 3 so that the panels can be offset to stay a bit more wind/water proof.
Was curious. Are you using carbon that has a veil on the back of the carbon? It doesn’t look like it fray when you cut it. Great videos.
super helpful!
Hey AJ, love your videos! For a DIY guy like myself, would you recommend doing wet lay with curved and more complex molds? Or at that point would pooling of the resin be too much of an issue affecting strength and weight.
its kinda hard to achieve perfect part without vacuum if the mold is too complex.
Wet lay on curved stuff, or anything with tight corners is a pain. I’d only try it if it was your only option.
Is it possible to apply pressure from weight on top of the piece while the resin sets?
If you want to prevent the pin holes on the surface you can pre-wet the fabric before putting it on the surface.
I'm looking for information on doing a one piece front end

Great info. What was the final thickness of that sheet using those two fabrics? How much will vacuum bagging change the final thickness?
About .040”. Vac will be about .035”. I get into vacuum bagging in the next one and will be up in a few days.
