Hello Raj I hardly ever leave a public comment BUT, what an amazing video. I never knew how much time it takes to do carbon fibre. You have a new subscriber currently suffering from COVID & enjoying your videos. Keep them coming mate 👍
Rob, thank you so much for the kind words, I had Covid Jan this year (without even knowing) I was lucky, I hope you are not affected too much by Covid. Hope you get better soon, thank you very much for subscribing to my channel. Peace
I enjoy and amazed to your video. I love carbon fiber parts. Would you mind to share the size of the spray gun you used and do you thinned the gelcoat, thanks. I'm your new subscriber waiting for your next carbon videos.
Hello Gary, it all depends on which part, I use either a wax or a chemical release. But the main thing which doesn't change and is the major factor in ensuring a good release is the prep of the mould. Firstly the mould must be scratch free and polished to a high gloss, this removes the risk of a mechanical bond between mould and part. Then the mould surface is treated to mould sealer and then mould cleaner. Follow those steps and you should have no issues. I hope this helps.
@@Carsntime I never degas via a chamber as I found that to be just too much hastle, I just take care when mixing the resin and then allow the resin to stand for 5 mins, the air naturally rises and disappears. Seems to work for me

Nice job there! I have 2 questions for you: Any reason for not using 4x4 as first layer (I've heard that 4x4 is quite loose though). How come you didn't go the shorter way with the infusionhoses, east - west instead of north - south? Just trying to learn here ☺ The roof looked very nice!
Hello there, I have actually gone the shortest way with the infusion, if you watch the video you will see I have a inlet feed at one end then another in the middle, so the infusion is split into 2 parts making the distance as short as possible, once the infusion reaches the centre the 1st inlet is clamped off then the second one in the middle is opened. I hope this makes sense. In regards to the 4x4 its just my personal preference to use a 2x2 for the first layer as I prefer the look and the way I can make it drape over the mould contours. I hope this explanation is of use to you.
amazing work as always
thank you very much
That looks awesome. 👍
Thank you very much
Good job awesome 👏🏻
Thank you very much

That was a very interesting watch. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Thanks for uploading. I would describe what you do as an art form.
Thank you very much for those kind and positive words :-) means a lot

Thanks Raj
I’m on the mend ready to watch more videos,
Good luck with your channel 👍
It will be interesting to see how to mount this roof on the car !
you remove the existing roof leaving about 30mm lip, then this bonds to that using a panel bond adhesive such as 3m 8115

Hi, I use a 2mm spray nozzle and a epoxy compatible poly gelcoat
Love it Raj bought a couple carbon strut tops off you couple years ago for Mk2 but I maybe popping up again sometime for a roof skin now😂
Thank you Stefan, hope your well mate.
@@autoflockmotorsport7730 yes mate all good gutted you got rid of your mk1 but needs must 👌🏻
Top work there mate! What type of gel coat are you using? Is it a vinylester or a epoxy compatible polyester? It leaves a lovely finish!
Hello John, this was made using a polyester gelcoat which is epoxy compatible purchased from Easy Composites called GC50. I hope this helps.
What's the aerosol spray you were using attaching that first bit to the mould?

Lovely work! What release agent do you use? I've tried many but seem to have sticking issues, and your parts seem to pop off perfectly!

hi, the gelcoat is it epoxy?
GC50 polyester
Looks fantastic mate! Do you use epoxy or polyester resin for this?
Hello Kevin, thank you very much, this is a epoxy infused part using resin from easy composites
@@autoflockmotorsport7730 nice one mate. You don’t degas your resin? Part turned out perfect as well but I always have issued when I don’t degas

Beautiful work Raj 👌 Out of interest which gelcoat are you using for UV protection? And which brand of spray-tak?
