FULL STORY: The names of the people in this video is Ronnie Spector and Phil Spector Phil was a songwriter for the Ronettes, and one out of 3 singers of the band was Ronnie. Ronnie was a singer who worked for Phil. Phil begun to start an affair with Ronnie after the ronettes broke apart and disbanded, Ronnie was unaware that she was a side chick to Phil and that he had a wife. And sometime later Phil was able to divorce his first wife (Annette Merar) and get married to Ronnie Spector in 1968. (The Christmas Kids) The Christmas kids were the three kids of Ronnie and Phil Spector, allegedly Ronnie had tried leaving Phil multiple times due to a toxic and abusive relationship, on the day of Christmas phil surprised Ronnie with 2 twins and 1 kid as a present to try and make Ronnie emotionally attached to The kids and wouldn’t leave Phil. Eventually Ronnie still managed to escaped Phil by drinking and attending alcoholic anonymous meetings to fled the house, in 1972 Ronnie escaped the mansion barefoot without any belongings thru a broken window with the help of her mother. Her mother ‘Beatrice’ said to Ronnie “I am your mother, and I am telling you, you have to get out of there, or you my little girl will be gone.” 2 years after Ronnie was able to divorce Phil in 1974. What happened to their kids? I’m not sure and have no information about what happened to the kids after Ronnie left their family, I’ll assume they ended up still living with their father for some time because Donté Spector said that their father was abusive to them and would love them up in their rooms all the time. Phil Spector did have a biological child but without any proper information we’ll have to assume that he lived with Annette Merar. His biological child Phillip Spector Junior died from Leukemia in 1998. YEAR 1988 and 2000, The Ronettes were able to sue Phil for 10 million for unpaid royalties and for Unpaid income he made from licensing the Ronettes music, This case took a decade to make it to its trial, in 2000(final case) Phil was ordered to pay more than 2.6 Million dollars and the Ronettes won their case. In 2004, Spector was ranked number 63 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest artists in history. In 2009, after two decades in semi-retirement, he was convicted of the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson and sentenced to 19 years to life in prison. He died in prison in 2021. Ronnie lived a peaceful life, and outlived phil.
First comment and the history: I've been listening to this song for a while now and just want to say how amazing it is. I looked into the story of the lyrics afterwards and thought about how sad the background is. Basically the artists of ROAR based it off the relationship of Ronnie and Phil Spector. Ronnie was the singer for the Ronnettes, which gained attention through Phil's production and name. Eventually they got together and married but it was pure madness. Phil would lock her in the house, as reported by Ronnie herself. And he would manipulate, and abuse her. On Christmas Phil gifted her twins I believe, to keep her tied to him. Ronnie would reportedly drink herself to say out of the house and be placed in the hospital. Eventually she escaped but her trauma is still with her. I know there's more but I thought it was so interesting about it, and I wonder what made em want to write about it. Also does it kind of remind you of Brian Wilson? Edit: Phil Spector died in 2021 and Ronnie died in 2022. Sad right? Edit 2: THANK YOU FOR 3.2K LIKES I NEVER WAS FAMOUS BEFORE THANK YOU GUYS!
It’s really sad she got locked up in her own house like his husband even hired a hitman and guard dogs and locked his kids in their room giving them a bucket as a toilet it’s just really sad
I hate how phill has emotionally, phiscally and mentally abusive towards her and locked her up and hid her shoes so she couldn't run away and then got her kids as a present for Christmas.then they filled in a form to get *divorced* and its truly disguting. Edit:wow ty for the likes!

Phil Spector was a music producer who was known for his innovative "Wall of Sound" production technique that was popular in the 1960s. He was married to Veronica "Ronnie" Bennett, who was the lead singer of the girl group, The Ronettes, between 1968 and 1974. "He was rumored to have threatened his wife with a glass casket he kept in the house, saying that he would display her corpse in it if she attempted to escape. The title refers to the twins Louis and Gary Spector that Phil reportedly coerced Ronnie into adopting one Christmas in an attempt to revive their marriage. The Christmas kids were nothing but a gift And love is a tower where all of us can live Ronnie eventually filed for divorce from Phil Spector, citing irreconcilable differences. The singer later wrote in her 1990 memoir Be My Baby that she feared for her life during their marriage, and her mother helped her to escape from him. Louis and Gary Spector also accused their adopted father of engaging in likewise behavior towards them. Roar released "Christmas Kids" as a single on March 14, 2010. It entered the UK singles cha rt for the first time in 2023, 13 years later, after it trended on TikTok.

The lyrics said “You can change your name or change your mind” Because she couldn’t change her name, because everyone knew her as Ronnie. The song is called “Christmas Kids” because Phil Spector adopted 3 children as a Christmas “Gift” and left in 1 bucket to act as a toilet for the kids. He got the kids so he could make Ronnie emotionally attached to them so she wouldn’t leave. He also threatened Ronnie Spector with a gold coffin that he would display her corpse in. He also took her shoe’s so she couldn’t escape that easy. She luckily escaped threw a broken window. Veronica Yvette Bennett. (Her full name) 1943-2022.
Honestly I don’t really have a problem with people on TikTok using the song for trends. Especially the chorus, I definitely think it would be good for people to research the song because it does have a dark story. And I think it’s good for people to know how important the song is but honestly i don’t think it’s that deep when people use the chorus mostly because it’s very vague plus, music is all about interpreting lyrics to understand them better. If people use the rest of the song especially the parts where they name drop Ronnie it would prob be a different story but overall people should just enjoy the music and support it’s creators and especially not gate-keep songs or artists because music should be for everyone! (Also using darker parts of not only Christmas kids but other deep songs too and making them into a lighter subject and completely ignoring the importance of the lyrics and song is definitely not okay in my opinion) either way this is just what I think
so there's a backstory to this so the man we will call Phil Ronnet was abused by Phil who was her husband and hid her shoes so she can't escape from their house she layer found them and escaped from the hell from her husband

I'll drink myself to death insi-i-i-i-i-i-ide this prison cell, thi-is prison cell
So, get me out of here
Get me out of here
Get me out of here
Get me out of here
You'll change your name, or change your mind
And leave this fucked up place behind
But I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
I'll know, I'll know
The meaning of the song: The story is about phil and Ronnie Spector, (her being mentioned in the song, also an 60s pop-star,) to cut it short, phil was abusive to ronnie, and often threatened her to death if she ever tried to leave him.
This song scares the heck outta me
Ronnie was the best she made a song with Eddie or something one of the best songs in history. But her past is so sad.
sad fact: Ronnie died in 2022, poor girl, she deserved better
R.I.P Ronnie, she was so pretty ❤
Oh no 😢rip Ronnie ❤️
I just LOVE how the song conveys the whole situation and how amazing the song is, while telling a story about a terrible abuse
(Also using darker parts of not only Christmas kids but other deep songs too and making them into a lighter subject and completely ignoring the importance of the lyrics and song is definitely not okay in my opinion) either way this is just what I think
tldr: people should research a little when using this song
Even though I.m Young for this song I feel like I'm in the 1980s
This is as shocking when I was younger, and I found out about that song "I don't like Mondays" was about a school shooting that happened in the 70's.
Why is this song the most comforting song ever while it has such a dark meaning
My heart hurts for ronnette and its do sad
This song is such a banger but has a very sad and depressing backstory
so there's a backstory to this so the man we will call Phil Ronnet was abused by Phil who was her husband and hid her shoes so she can't escape from their house she layer found them and escaped from the hell from her husband
she escaped barefoot
Poor Ronnie, also poor Christmas kids😢
