    The Suede dye can make any shoe or any suede look like a brand new color item. I bought some all white Suede Shoes at a discount and did one light coat of the black dye on parts of the suede. It looks like a brand new shoe from the factory, no marks or streaking. You just make sure there is an even amount on the applicator and just move it at an even touch accross the suede. The suede just soaks it up.

    I've used these a lot. It takes some practice to get really consistent results. So easy to get that metallic coat, then more alcohol to clean it off. You'll end up with a piece of rawhide if you're not careful. I still oil everything after this dye, because it will dry the leather, dramatically in some cases.
    You can really play with the colors and cut them a lot to get a really nice shade. Turquoise and the blue are two of my favorites.
    We still prefer oil dyes.

      Beeswax has given some of the best water resistant results for me. "Waterproof" I don't know - leather is porous so eventually if submerged long enough it will absorb some of the water.

    This did answer some questions I have had for a while about coloring leather
    I am a furniture maker & I do have some more questions about this. Lets say, I want to make an oversized leather covered sofa. How far does that dye go?
    Also, I treat all leather goods with pure beeswax. This makes leather last a lot longer & also waterproofs it. I see this as an added feature that lets my customers know I want to make the best possible product. Will that create any issues with these dyes?
    Is the acrylic product similar to epoxy used in things like river tables? I want very much to keep the leather very soft & pliable over the years.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  3 роки тому +2

      Hi there,
      For a couch you would probably want a larger size dye - more like 32 oz.
      You shouldn't have a problem adding a beeswax top coat to this dye.
      The acrylic top coat is not like epoxy, it's a top coat to seal in the dye and keep it from rubbing off onto clothing, etc. It will still be flexible when it dries.

      Hi there, leather paint would give you brighter color options but you do run the risk of rub off a little bit quicker. Would you be able to stamp the letters in and then paint the the stamped areas? That would allow the paint to be in the recessed areas and lessen the risk of rub off.

    I have what is supposed to be a burgundy wallet but really looks more brownish and I want it to stand out like the green in this video. Is there a way to die a darker color to a lighter color... Or brown to green? I hope you were able to answer this for me. Thank you. I love your video.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  9 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately there is not a good way to dye leather a lighter color. Leather dye is transparent so it doesn't cover up, it just enhances or adds to so if you add green to brown it will likely just get darker with a bit of a green hue. You can try using deglazer first and that will lighten it somewhat but we still can't guarantee that it will have the outcome you are looking for.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  3 роки тому

      Hi Lucy,
      I'm not sure what you are referring to. I have not seen clear dye - but there are top coats that are clear. Tops coats will put a satin or shiny finish on your leather and seal in the dye. If you were to mix white paint and a top coat you would likely get a white-washed look but we have not tried this so we can't recommend it. Not sure the two would mix together very well either but you can always experiment and see what you come up with.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Bunny,
      The top coat is going to put a seal on the leather so I don't know that the conditioner will soak in very well. You can lightly oil the piece after dyeing and let it dry completely before applying a top coat. Or just work the leather with your hands a bit after the dye has dried and this ill help soften it up a bit.
