Lanikais are good starter ukes. Its not gonna sound like the pono, being a laminate instrument but it should be ok.
I wanted a solid wood pono ukulele, I did not have the money so I bought a Lanikai CK TEQ, it has not been delivered yet, well I hope this was a good choice, what do you think?

really isn't like a pono, but I liked it =]
It would not worth the price if I didn't have bought it by half the price due to a meaningless factory problem. So if someone have the money to buy a Lanikai CK TEQ (the oficial price) I recomend to spend this money in another uke, cause with the same price you can get something better, but I'm happy because with the money I had it was a great deal.
