    My husband and I got Covid in early 2020 before the hospitals were able to diagnose or admit it was here. I got a mild case, husband got terribly terribly sick. Hospital sent him home, saying he has pleurisy and probably a pulmonary embolism the first time round because they didn't think to check for covid at that time (February 2020), but when he was worse a few weeks later, in March, they begged him not to come in unless he was totally unable to breathe because they couldn't isolate him or treat him yet. I cried my eyeballs out but then started treating him with thyme steam (thyme in a bowl of boiling water with towel over his head), which I'd used as a kid myself for my terrible asthma... husband immediately improved and healed. He started steaming 3 times or so a day. He seems to have no lasting effect from the covid, thankfully. I also used it for my kids when they had bronchitis growing up. It is AMAZING!!! My husband swore it saved his life, and he's not into natural medicine for the most part. Thank you to this blessed plant.

      ...have you thought about- "propagating thyme" from your "store bought" thyme yet?!?!
      It's REALLY, really easy & simple.
      Just stick'em in some water for a week or so [put a smidge of 'cinnamon', on the tip- to prevent 'root rot' among other things] ..and then, just pop'em into a pot/cup!
      I have a "herbs & kisses" pot, in my windowsill that has Dill, Thyme, Oregano & Basil [Opal] growing in my windowsill pot!

      @@ilovetomcaldwell Debi for dogs we traditionally in Ayurveda use Ginger root, Sri-Rama-Tulsi (leaf powder of Holy Basil green / green Ocimum tenuiflorum) and very tiny amount of honey as cough medicine and it is safe and works great. Thyme is largely safe too but affects Dogs nerves a bit, and lowers heart rate quite a bit.. so not preferred for Dogs. the dosage to give you an idea - would be 10 ml honey, 200 mg tulsi and 350 mg ginger root powder for a medium 40 lb dog. you will have to adjust based on weight and age. But please do not cross 800mg of ginger root and 600mg of tulsi per day. and this should be given for a week as a standard schedule for normal cough and wheeze in dogs. .

If I am not using Honey then I usually take 4 table spoon of water, mix quarter table spoon of lime juice, and Tusli and ginger root powders, and add a few hemp seeds to this solution, and give it in a bowl- that way they will drink/lick the liquid right out in their pursuit of eating hemp seeds and works great as well. cheers.

    Powerhouse little herb. Antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory.
    Did you know that if you add thyme oil to vinaigrette or other dressings it can kill bacteria on salad leaves rendering them safe to eat? Something to keep in mind with the constant recalls on spinach and romaine.

      @Taiwo Omotosho oils are easy.
      Start with a small pot and cold (room temp) oil. Add herbs, put on stove at a slow simmer, DO NOT COVER, DO NOT BOIL, ignore until herbs are slightly browned, allow to cool, strain, bottle.
      Never leave herbs in oil, they will mold, even garlic.
      Crumble herbs and add to breads, salad toppings, dressings, etc.

    In Mexico they use “Mexican thyme” aka Cuban oregano aka Spanish thyme, succulent plant with similar properties. I grow it outside in summer (zone 5 So VT) and inside the rest of the year. It’s a great plant, very hardy as a ground cover just like Thymus vulgaris. Coleus Amboinicus L. or Plectranthus amboinicus

    • @jenniferw1570
      @jenniferw1570 3 роки тому

      Good to know, I'm on the coast of Maine and always look for herbs and plants I can grow indoors after our relatively short growing season and for hardy plants that will come back after winter outside. I'm wondering if "Mexican Thyme" can survive the winter since other thyme plants I have are fine, have you tried overwintering it?

    • @olgakuchukov6981
      @olgakuchukov6981 3 роки тому +2

      @@jenniferw1570 definitely will not survive outside. First frost will kill it. Bring it inside, overwinter and back out again. It’s a southern plant, Cuban/Mexican thyme. You can break off a piece and just stick it in soil, very unfussy that way but a zone 10 or 11 plant. Another hardy herb that can be grown outside in the summer from just a broken piece is African basil. Beautiful green purple leaves, lovely flowers, gets large in full sun.

    • @rebeccahenkins1697
      @rebeccahenkins1697 3 роки тому +1

      I have this growing in pots and in various places around my yard - the Cuban oregano - but also have regular excellent thyme now too :) It survives Florida frost fine and I rarely ahve to cover it even during our brief freezes - but it so easy to spread - cut a branch and stick it in the ground and new plant!! Love it - smells like pizza!! LOL

    • @olgakuchukov6981
      @olgakuchukov6981 3 роки тому +1

      @@rebeccahenkins1697 yes exactly. In my zone 5 southern Vermont garden I plant it all over as a ground cover and in the fall as the freezes come then subside for a few more weeks of growing time, I watch the weather and cover the clumps of Cuban oregano so it can survive for a few more weeks. Really hardy as far as its versatility goes - no need to harden off when moving in or out. A protected patch can survive a light frost but a hard frost will kill it, guaranteed. But take a sprig to root in soil and you’re continuing the life of the plant. My original sprig came from a rooftop garden in Brooklyn, NYC, in 2010 or so. I have it indoor plants all over, have shared it with others. Only thing I don’t do enough of is eat it! The Cubans and Mexicans rely on it for colds and such. I also have Thymus vulgaris regular and variegated patches that return strong every year. I need to get another lemon thyme. I also have a mother thyme that is a low to the ground creeper that has survived harsh treatment
