+Marc Angel thanks for your question! The USB port is deactivated with the Zaquencer Firmware, it can only send Midi through the standard Midi ports. There are many inexpensive USB-Midi Interfaces available to use the Zaquencer with a computer, or you might even have Midi port on your soundcard already.
Damn, that looks damn good.... and I have the BCR2000. Quick question. the new firmware will allow to have the regular midi functionality ? It would be great if we could swap between midi mode and seq mode.
Hi Navi, the new firmware only operates as a sequencer, not as a midi controller. It is possible to go back and forth between firmwares, but you lose your flash presets both ways. So it might not be the most practical thing...
can you chain more than one measure? is there midi velocity? can i change the note length? can i program cc (oh please please please lol)? does it merge incoming midi with outgoing midi? can you play its sequence by sending it midi trigger of some kind (a note maybe)? does it respond to cc? i would love some way of implementing pitch bend. what do the foot switches do? i bought a bcr2000 just for this. very much anticipating its arrival!
Hi, thanks for your questions! Yes, pattern chain of consecutive patterns is possible. There is Midi Velocity per step (but not per individual note of a chord or a drumkit). Same for Note Length (Time resolution like Midi Clock). You can program 2 independent midi controls per track (CCs, Pitch Bend, Aftertouch, Program Change). Midi Merge is possible. You can change patterns by sending it Midi CCs. The foot switches are not used. Please see the manual for more details: zaqaudio.com/downloads
Is it possible to enter notes using a keyboard controller connected to it via usb? I want the zaquencer to be able to sync to cubase, so that might mean using the midi in for that purpose. So is it possible to hook up a keyboard controller via usb? Thanks!
Hi Tzachi, the USB port of the BCR is disabled when using the Zaquencer firmware. But you can still accomplish entering notes with a keyboard controller by either hooking up the keyboard to your computer and putting the notes through to the clock-sending midi output, or using a midi merger box to merge two seperate midi connections (notes + clock) before going into the single Midi In on the BCR.
Hello, thanks for your inquiry! The firmware will cost 69 Euro as digital download and will be available mid october 2014 (just added it to the info as well). Cheers!
Hi, yes it´s possible by sending Midi note messages. There are different modes how the 4 tracks of the Zaquencer will be affected, either all by the same midi channel or each track individually by a note on different midi channels. Please let me know if you have more questions!
alien brain Whoops, sorry must have missed it. The BPM are adjustable from 30 to 300. There will be a free demo when it´s released, so you can try it out and make sure it does everything you want it to.
A single pattern will stay 32 steps for the forseeable future. However you can chain patterns for successive playback. This way you can get up to 192x32 steps at playback.
Thanks for the reply! Does chaining mean you could assign an automated transition between two 32 step sequences, effectively creating one 64 step pattern?
Bone Alias Yes, this is correct. Chaining allows automatic transitioning between adjacent 32-step patterns. You can chain 2 patterns (for 64 steps) or up to all 192 patterns if you so wish. Note that chaining works by loading the patterns from flash. This is instantaneous, but if you plan on tweaking the patterns while in chain mode, you must make sure to save the recent pattern before the next one gets loaded, or the old one will get loaded in it´s last saved state. Other than that the workflow is very simple. You just press two pattern buttons simultaneously, and all patterns inbetween the two selected ones will play in chain. So you could press patterns 1&2 for the first 64 steps, then press 3&4 for the next 64 steps etc. etc. Let me know if you have more questions.
ZAQ Audio Wow, now that's pretty nifty. I do actually have two more questions, firstly about wether you could have multiple patterns going on at the same time in order to create chord sequences. Of course it wouldn't be a tragedy if this feature weren't available, as it seems pretty advanced for a midi controller hack, but it would be absolutely awesome that's for sure. Also does the hack happen via Sysex at home or would I have to send the Behringer to you for you to mod it?
Bone Alias Yes, the Zaquencer has four tracks that are able to play simultaneously. You could use these to create chords by triggering notes at the same time from different tracks. But there is also a dedicated chord feature, making it easier. This works by selecting a chord from a list that will then be placed on top of the bes note that is selected on note pitch. For example: setting C in pitch and then selecting a major chord on top of it will result in the notes C - E - G. Check our "Zaquencer Intro" video here on YT, where we demonstrate the chord feature in the beginning. The hack happens at your place. You need the BCR and our firmware, and then upload it via SysEx, just like you would upload the normal BCR firmware - easy. It just needs to be authorized on our webpage, but that is a painless & automated process.
So basically he has a 32 step sequencer. Drums on one channel, notes on another, and he's able to set start and end points to various parts of a predefined sequence.all on the fly. Can't this be achieved with more conventional sequencers?
I suppose so, but for some reason this is the only sequencer I know of that shows 32 steps all at once with direct control of each step. I DESPISE how all controller leave you with 8 steps or if you're luck and want to spend money, 16. Even the beatstep pro handicaps you with no visual indication of what each step is at. Seriously considering this option.
@@ryanpwm And then i found this: ua-cam.com/video/PWGbsssCFuA/v-deo.html The launch pad pro mk3, which has 32 steps on displays and also allows you to set start and end points, eg loops within those 32 steps. 4 midi Channels too, so you could have 4 pieces of hardware taking up to 8 bars of sequence from this device. I'm sure the knobs on the Zaquencer offer more functionality, but it seems Novation has taken a few notes from the Zaquencer, to impliement its best bits.
@@chrisliddiard725 Ah I wasn't so clear. I don't mean where each note is. I mean specifically what each note is. I believe the Zaquencer shows step value by the LEDs on the pots. To me using that sequencer would be like flying blind. Why do they always hide the notes? Isn't that the most valuable part when you get past drum sequencing? That's my biggest gripe with a sequencer. If I cannot see what note each step is and see at least 32 steps at the same time, I will just use my computer. I don't know why there isn't a melodic sequencer with 16-32 steps, with one big display or many little displays or even LEDs that display the note value. All of them, always... that's not at least $700 Then you can predict how the notes will sound coming up and make corrections to the sequence on the fly. Without that you have hear the sequence several times to have it memorized.
You're a genius. Get ready to watch the ebay value of these skyrocket.
I have no idea how it works, but it's the coolest hack I have ever seen.
Apparently, Behringer is rereleasing it with the Zaquencer software installed from the factory

I have the bcr 2000 but I'm more interested in that micro nord, nice sound.
great work on the sequencer and great jam!

great video and sequencer!
nice, you've just sold hundreds more 2nd hand bcr2000s!
good hack from looks of it:)
Yea. Now I have to buy two. One for midi controller, the other for sequencing.
Thankfully, the unit is very affordable.
i'm baffled. this is brilliant.
you should make use of accelerated encoder support on the bcr though, that last tempo turn looks painful
freeeeiiiikin awesome!!! genius!

i looked at the manual and im impressed. im anxious to start making sequences honestly!
Is the 505 the only hardware he is pulling sounds from in this video?
In this video Jacob uses the 505 for drums and the Nord Micro Modular for the Synth sounds.
when and where will it be available to buy ?

can it control roland tr-08?
it can control any midi device
what will this be like at around 170-190 bpm?
any response to this question?
